My family and I recently had the pleasure of stopping by Reggae Pot, and the experience was truly memorable. We had a little extra time and wanted to treat ourselves to some good food with real Caribbean flavor and culture. My wife had been craving oxtails, so that was the first thing on the list. She ordered the oxtails with rice and peas and plantains, and the plate came out absolutely on point -- tender, rich in flavor, and cooked with real care. I went with the jerk chicken and also grabbed a curry chicken patty and a jerk chicken patty. The seasoning, the flavor, and the preparation were all excellent. Every bite had that authentic island taste that lets you know the kitchen knows exactly what it's doing. The kids enjoyed chicken strips with fries, and they had some great Caribbean-style drinks -- mango passionfruit and guava pineapple. The grown-ups enjoyed rum punch, and I also had a sorrel drink that was refreshing and full of flavor. The atmosphere was welcoming from the moment we stepped inside. Good music was playing with those old-school island vibes, creating a relaxed environment where you could really enjoy the food and the moment. Before we headed out to catch our Uber, I even picked up a dread cap -- black with red, yellow, and green stripes -- a nice cultural touch to take home. The food was magnificent, the drinks were excellent, and the whole experience was solid all around. Reggae Pot is authentic and delicious. Staff is friendly, inside is clean and well-maintained. Checks all the boxes. The jerk seasoning is perfect. Enough heat to keep it interesting, but the flavor of all the spices were distinct, balanced, and beautiful. All of the protein was perfectly cooked. Rice and peas were very comforting and hit the spot. The cabbage side was excellent with quality ingredients. Mac and Cheese was a little strange to me because there was a flavor in there that I was not used to. It wasn't bad, but not my preference. Kind of an unexpected sweetness in there. Goat curry was amazing curry flavor with tender goat with goat flavor shining through. I was not a huge fan of the jerk pork. It was okay, but the fat wasn't cooked out the way I like, and the cubes of pork were just average. The jerk shrimp was a tad salty and sweet, but overall very enjoyable for us. I will definitely be back for more goat and chicken. I am also looking forward to trying out the rest of their menu, like ackee and salt fish, whole fried red snapper, and maybe they can even change my mind about beef patties. Everytime I'm in town, I try to make my way to this place. I love how the oxtail just falls off the bone. Meat pies are delicious but you need to get there earlier before they sell out. Small restaurant but regardless if you choose to dine in or takeout, I think it's worth the price. Dining in allows you to enjoy the reggae music. Service is friendly. However, you will need to prepare to wait for your food. It may not be the quickest but you can't rush good food. I will be returning on every visit. read more

This is my second time trying a Pate it was very flat not as full as my other try at another place. I'm not really a Jamaican connoisseur so not sure which is the right way to Pate - full or flat. The outer crust was flaky and good. The jerk chicken was spicy, the chicken was a little overcooked and some pieces dry but not bad. I really liked the Mac n cheese and the rice was just ok. YUCK! I threw that shi right in the trash the lady up front had a nasty attitude. She shouldn't work in a restaurant if she doesn't wanna be bothered by people. The food at Reggae Pot was not the best Jamaican cuisine that I've had. I had been wanting to try the restaurant for quite some time. I drove over on my day off and decided to experience it. The people working there were very friendly and kind. The ambience was definitely rooted in, Jamaican history. The restaurant was clean and had a great feel to it. Though it is located far from my home I still wanted to check it out because I had heard good things. I decided to stick with the most common dish which was jerk chicken, rice & beans as well as fried plantain. I ordered my food to go. When I got home, I tasted the chicken which was more a tangy bbq flavor, it was not spicy. I expect jerk chicken to be spicy, it tasted more like a seasoned barbecue glaze instead of the jerk flavor. The rice and beans were pretty bland. The rice was cooked well and the beans were nice, but they didn't compliment each other. The fried plantain was the best part of my meal. I've never known anyone who could mess up fried plantain. Overall, it did not excite me, and that will be the last time I eat at this restaurant. read more

This place is its own entire vibe. The walls are covered in reggae memorabilia, images of famous reggae artists, and history of reggae music. And of course, reggae music is playing the whole time. The food is great. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas. It was excellent. The flavor was great, and the meat was tender and juicy. It also came up super quick. Many of the dishes are on the pricier side. The dish I had was one of their cheaper options, and it was excellent. I love Jamaican food. It's definitely my favorite kind of Caribbean food! I'm a frequent visitor to another Jamaican spot in Denver, but someone recommended I try this place -- so I did, and I absolutely loved it! I just wish it was closer to me -- I'd be a regular for sure! Service here is super friendly and nice. Makes you feel right at home. Plus the menu is extensive, they seem dedicated to keeping all options available daily, and they're open Sundays -- so we're already off to a better start than most Jamaican places I've been! The goat curry and chicken curry are my faves here (super tender and flavorful). The oxtail is a close runner-up too. Perfectly cooked and so delicious. The food here is really good. A well balanced level of heat and spice that satisfies the expectations of such an establishment. We had the Pork BBQ Ribs and The Goat Curry with Roti. I can taste a lot of the ingredients in this BBQ sauce which I am pretty sure is made in house. Very tasty. For the BBQ Ribs, the meat is super tender with the right amount of fat left behind. Yes, that's right, I said fat. ;) The Goat Curry is excellent. A warm blend of rich spices, and again a well balanced heat. There was an ample amount of Marrow Bones in this curry if you like that. I do! I had the green salad and cabbage as sides. The salad was fresh and crisp and the cabbage a perfectly well seasoned al denté. Also we got both desserts which look absolutely amazing! This is located in an unassuming shopping center. We drive by this area all the time,but we never end up in this specific shopping center. I've had this place booked marked for a while and decided one afternoon that we needed to try it. We came during lunch hour and there is a great selection of dishes I've never tried before. We opted for the curry goat and jerk chicken. I had the rice and plantains for my dish and my husband got rice and Roti. We received our food quickly and they were large portions. The jerk chicken had good flavor, but wasn't quite as tender as I thought it'd be. The plantains were crispy on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside. The Curry goat was definitely where it was at. Super tender and packed full of flavors. It also wasn't gamy either. It was delicious. We had some leftover for the next day and it was still very good. In town from Houston and decided to check out the Jamaican cuisine Chicken Curry Patty - 5 stars Juicy and flavorful chicken. The patty had the right amount of crunch Oxtail - 3 stars. The meat wasn't fall off the bone tender and lacked gravy/seasoning Rice & peas - 3 stars. Rice was very fluffy and airy. Lacking on seasonings Cabbage - 3.5 stars. I loved the crunch. Best Jamaican food in the Midwest. Honestly I love this place so much the food is so flavorful. I am new to Denver and as a foodie, the scene out here is very small compared to Houston. However, This is definitely a gem. Walk in, they have the music playing the and it is a very clean open space which is nice. I've brought multiple friends of mine from Houston here when they have came to visit me or have had to order takeout because I needed them to have hope that there is actually good food out here in Denver LOL. Not only is the food packed with amazing authentic Jamaican seasoning what the customer service is superb. My friend who is used to the not so friendly Jamaican spots in Houston was even skeptical about the food because they were that nice LOL. Now let's talk about the food... As a person of color who knows that Caribbean seasonings can be misinterpreted into a "less is more" main stream restaurant ideology (unfortunately) ... I will say with great pleasure that the mac & cheese is bussin. It's so good that my kid hast to scrape his plate every single time and I have to steal bites when he's not looking. My kid who is not a fan of vegetables must less cabbage will actually have some of mine and actually enjoy it. The curry goat roti is some of the most tender and flavor pack to meat I've ever had. I could probably go on and on about the different things I've had from here... But I'm not going to do that. Just know anything you order, you will not be disappointed. The space itself was fantastic for the type of food they are serving. Small space full of Jamaican gear (caps, pictures, an entire display of items from Jamaica.) The feeling inside was nearly like you are in Jamaica. The service was really good. No, it wasn't the Peninsula type of service; it was more of a service on a human level. I appreciated that. We checked out Reggae Pot in Centennial on a Friday night, quick service and amazing food. My husband got a beef patty to start which he raved about, and the brown chicken stew with rice and red peas and dumplings for his sides. He said that was fantastic, too. I'm Celiac so I avoided the stews which have flour in them for the rue, and the patties because of the flaky pastry (again, the patty looked and smelled amazing and I wish I could have tried!) My gluten free options were the jerk meats and non-bread sides (pork, fish, chicken--plenty to choose from.) I got the jerk chicken with fried plantains and steamed cabbage for sides and I couldn't eat it fast enough! It was so good!! I also got the sorrel ginger fresh pressed juice which was delicious. There is also a case filled with Jamaican goodies such as green plantain chips, tamarind candy, and Jamaican sodas. We had two beef patties, half a jerk chicken, potato salad, and plantains. BF had the passion fruit mango juice, and I had a Ting grapefruit soda, which was recommended over the ginger beer. The fountain drink dispenser is out of order. Everything was delicious. The potato salad was among the best that I have ever had. I'm not particularly a fan of potato salad, but this was GOOD. The jerk chicken was spicy without being painfully so. Tl;dr - Service is SLOW, but the food is good. Expect to wait a while or order ahead. Beef (or chicken) patties are a must! I have eaten from the Centennial location twice now. The first time I went was midday on a weekend, and the second time was right after they opened on a random Thursday. Both times, I had to wait over 30 mins for my meals (understandable the first time since they were busy, but not so much the second time). The second time, I walked in 1 min after they opened, and I was the only customer to order a meal (someone came in right after me and grabbed patties to go). It was clear that they had not done any prep work and were not ready to take customers when they opened. I also felt bad for a delivery driver who dropped off packages, then had to wait 20 minutes for someone to provide him with a signature. During the first trip, I had the jerk chicken platter with festival (dumplings) and fried plantains. The chicken was seasoned and cooked well, although it had a very light spice to it (I was hoping for more). The festival was delicious, and the fried plantains were a touch too greasy. I also tried their beef and jerk chicken patties, both of which were very good! During the second trip, I had a lunch special - jerk chicken sandwich. Now this was an ordeal, starting with just the order itself. When I ordered it, the cashier looked at me blankly and said "We don't serve that as a lunch special." I indicated to the menu behind him which clearly denoted it under lunch specials. He couldn't find it on the menu (even though it was listed as plain as day). Finally the other customer and I literally guided him down the list until he saw it. Then when ringing it up, he did not seem to know that it came with fries (no other sides). He asked me what side I wanted (and me assuming that I could change the side), answered Mac and cheese. When it wouldn't ring up properly, he went to the back and asked for help, and was told that it only came with fries. I said that that was fine, and added a beef patty to my order. Then I proceeded to wait. And wait....40 minutes later (with no intervening customers) my order was ready. Needless to say, I was quite annoyed by the wait. Once I tried the sandwich though, I was less irate. The jerk chicken sandwich was so good!! Flavorful, spicy, and delicious! The beef patty was great as well. One other note - both times I went, the restaurant was very smoky (I'm assuming from the grill). The fact that the dining area was affected suggests inadequate ventilation in the kitchen. During my second visit, a polite young man from the back came up and opened the front door, commenting that it was too smoky inside - I completely agreed!
