The food took a LONG time, we got there when they opened and the food took a little over an hour to arrive. We were the first party in and maybe the 4th party to get our food. There were more lamb and beef options, most items are jalapeños based and spicy. They do make items not as spicy if needed. We ordered the vegetarian combo plate to share with the Beef Derek Tibs and Beef Lega Tibs. Lots of African customers in the restaurant for birthday celebration so I'm sure they are legit. Nile Ethiopian is AMAZING! The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, the service is friendly and attentive, and the food... wow. We ordered the Lamb Tibs and the Veggie Combo, and both were out of this world. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and tender, the veggie combo was full of flavor, and of course everything was scooped up with plenty of that soft, spongy injera bread. Honestly, the injera alone is worth the trip -- it ties all the flavors together and makes the whole meal feel like an experience. He was not wrong, as soon as you enter you are greeted with an amazing rush of smokey incense and the smell of amazing flavors. Went here for lunchtime on Valentine's day and had a super lovely experience. We ordered a couple sambusas (very tasty) and the vegetarian combo, which is always what I get at Ethiopian places. There were two kinds of yellow lentils, plus red and green lentils and shiro wot. Of course also there were potatoes/carrots, green beans, cabbage, and collard greens. Not every vegetarian combo at every Ethiopian place gives you so many options, so the rainbow of lentils was great. The service was very kind and nice to us and the environment was quiet. We had plenty of food to take home as leftovers, and we received a new basket of injera to go home with our leftovers as well. The prices were a little high but that's fine with me as there's no way I could make so many such dishes at home, and both my partner and I each had multiple dishes of leftovers to enjoy after as well. And I gotta say, I'm not too familiar with the area, and this place wasn't even on my radar, but SO glad I was invited! They've reopened for dine-in, and there were a couple of tables already in there on a Saturday afternoon, but the dining room is much bigger than it looks from the outside, so the tables were well spaced-out. Back to our meal - we were already full from a little dessert adventure, so decided to share the Veggie Combo and Lamb Tibs. There were a few Lab Tibs on the menu, but decided on #17. If you're trying to make up your mind on which Lamb Tibs to go with - go with this one! I believe it was the Lamb Tibs FirFir which was perfectly cooked cubed lamb sautéed with onion, rosemary, tomato, and green pepper. So good! The Vegetarian Combo was delicious and flavor - samplings of the different kinds of chickpeas and lentils, spicy and mild, spread out on large Injera. And this Injera, btw, was so soft, spongy, and thick! The perfect, fluffy injera to accompany our Ethiopian feast. I have been coming to Nile on and off for about 5 years. I tried several Ethiopian restaurants in Denver and eventually settled in on Nile as my go to Ethiopian restaurant. My favorite dish is their vegetarian combo, while most Ethiopian restaurants let you order 4, 5 or 6 items and charge accordingly, Nile put 10 or 11 items on their combo and at a very reasonable price. The taste is just as good as the other places, so why not come here instead. No utensil, tear a small piece of the injera and use right hand only to grab food from the plate, wipe the hand on a napkin if it gets too messy, keep your left hand clean to pick up your drink or to spoon food on your plate. Until yesterday (July 11, 2020), I don't think I had ever had Ethiopian food in a real sense. It was my friend's choice last night for our dinner as his friend recommended this Nile Restaurant. I did see the mixed reviews by others on Yelp (from 1 star to 5 stars) but I am a firm believer of the statement, "I have to try it to decide if I like it or not"; hence the last night's dining in. To state in a very succinct way, it turned out to be an amazing experience at this restaurant, and it didn't ruin my somewhat high expectation. The vegetarian combo, one of the lamb entrees, and the appetizer (lentil and spinach sambusas) were all impeccably cooked and tasted delicious to our taste buds. It also became an educational opportunity for us to learn about the Ethiopian cuisine (I had no clue that injera was the name of the Ethiopian bread; it's like the naan as to the Indian cuisine. Ingera, however, is very spongy like other reviewers stated.) Everything on the menu looked very intriguing where if I got the opportunity to dine at this restaurant once every week, I'd try from the very first item to the very last item on the menu. The portion is quite much compared to the price; you'll definitely get what you'll pay for. A few things to note about the restaurant. This is not necessarily a fancy restaurant. The inside is very plain so don't go there expecting to experience a great ambience; just focus on the quality of the food. Also, we had to wait for our food to arrive for a good amount of time. I couldn't tell if it just happened to be a slow day (where there were not enough cooks to make all the orders in a timely manner) or not. We went there around 4:00 to beat the normal dinner rush (especially during the COVID as the seating is now limited.) It wasn't necessarily busy at the time of our arrival. Or maybe it takes time to cook/prepare Ethiopian food? Whatever the case may be, give yourselves a plenty of time to sit down and eat where you are not obligated to do anything afterwards! read more

I would rate it 3 and half stars. It was my first Ethiopian food experience. We ordered two vegetarian platters. They get the two portions to the table on a single plate, probably it's a culture to share from the same plate. The vegetarian platter comes with a salad and 7(or more) other sides. ( 2 kinds of lentils, 4 kinds of vegetable sides, to mention a few) They all tasted good, though not full of spices. I am unsure if that's how their lentil is seasoned or if it has been tamed down. They also give you more injera if you would like some more. What I didn't like was the wait. They weren't too busy when we went in, also the sides on the platter are most likely not 'cooked to order'. So I didn't understand the wait of 15+ minutes for something that just needed to be spooned onto a plate. read more

Gather round, folks, and I will regale you with a magical, mystical story. Once upon a time, years ago, there was a restaurant called Nile, which offered the metro area's only (at the time) Ethiopian buffet lunch. As exciting as this development was, the powers that be felt that it was lacking a little oomph. So, the place became the recipient of not only a makeover, but also a new name (Artist Inyie) thereby also squelching the fabled buffet. But no, the throngs were still not coming en masse (despite much praise from the Aurora Sun-Sentinel). Therefore, it was decided to go back to basics. Inyie would once again become Nile, although the buffet was still not revived. Gentle readers, that brings us to the present day, and the focus of this review. Nile Ethiopian Restaurant is probably the best-known of the five Abyssinian ambassadors which line Havana Street. Part gathering-place, part nightclub (with live music from Washington DC [the Ethiopian capital of the US] and even further afield), and part chow-hall, it entices, excites and energizes. For appetizers, why not try a Sambusa (crispy, flaky, meat or lentil pastries). Their Ayib be-Mitmita (spiced homemade cottage cheese) is also the biziggity-bomb, if I do say so myself. But don't stuff yourself too silly just yet! The main course is coming up, and you don't want to miss this. The menu offers so many choices! There's Yedoro We't - chicken stewed in aromatic Berbere sauce with a hardboiled egg, to symbolize the union of parent and child. Or maybe Yebeg Tibs - lamb and rosemary stirfry served sizzling on a hotplate - Ethiopia's answer to fajitas. Go on, splurge a little. Be daring and try the Kitfo - ground beef served raw (customarily), Lebleb (cooked just a little), or, if you must, thoroughly cooked (but don't be surprised if everyone around you goes "BOOOOOOOOOO!" if you order it this way. Oh, of course they wouldn't really do that). As Coptic Christians, the most reverent Ethiopians refrain from eating meat for 200 or more days out of the year (don't forget that Ethiopia uses the Julian calendar and is on a 13-month system). Is it any wonder, then, that there are so many dazzling vegetarian dishes on the menu? Why, there's Yemisir We't (perky red lentil puree), Ye-Kik Alicha (buttery yellow split peas), Gomen (knockout greens)... or why not do a Combination? Remember, around here food is served with only one utensil, the fermented crepelike bread called Injera, properly made from teeny-tiny grains of Teff. Tear off a piece (right hand only please!) and soak, dip and grab your way to culinary Nirvana. Why not treat your dining partners to Gursha, and feed them by hand (a great honor)? If Fate is smiling on you, you may visit during a coffee ceremony, where the beans will be roasted and brewed (thrice!) right in front of you as the scent of frankincense wafts through the air. Enjoy the rich brew the traditional way, with freshly popped corn. Nile Ethiopian Restaurant brings to you a little taste of the Horn of Africa, right in Aurora! Oooo! I've been wanting to try Nile for ages and finally got the chance this past weekend. It absolutely met and possibly exceeded my expectations. The inside is nice with a stage I assume is for music sometimes. It was totally full on a Sat night but my friend and I didn't wait long. Our sever and the other servers who made sure we had water and napkins were all sweet and attentive. We both got some spinach and lentil Sambusa. They were good, but we both noted that we prefer them at Queen of Sheba. But, the vegetarian combo was spectacular! It had more Wats than the other Ethiopian joints I've tried in and around Denver (there's even a little salad for freshness), and each Wat was more delicious than the next. This is an update from my last review. I gave 5 stars because food was delicious, and still is. A lot of my Ethiopian friends recommend this place, so I know the food has to be good. I figured last time that they were just having an off day and service was slow just that one time. I came here again, they weren't very busy, but goodness, service was ridiculously slow. We sat ourselves, and knew what we wanted pretty quickly and food came out about half an hour later. Half an hour! Last time I came here, I thought maybe that it just takes a long time for Ethiopian food to be made, but I've been to other Ethiopian restaurants and food came out much quicker. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, we finished our food and it took another 10 minutes to flag someone down and ask for the check. Then ANOTHER 10 minutes to actually get the check. Service gets 1 star. On a better note, food was super yummy. We got the vegetarian combo and a bowl of beef and peppers on top of delicious injera. If you've never tried it, and you love sweet wine, try the Ethiopian honey wine! It's my new favorite thing. Tastes just like some kind of apple cider to me. Sweet and refreshing. After driving an hour and 20 min from Boulder, I sat down with a party at 6:20 PM for a reservation at 6:30 PM. Unfortunately, they only served our food at 8:20 PM. I waited 2 hours to eat. I left angry, hungry, and disappointed at 8:20 PM as I had another commitment to attend. Other parties came after us and were served their food before us. Service on the other hand is not that great. This is probably on my top 5 worst service experiences in Denver. The staff was not outright rude but very negligent of customers. The person that seems like they were in charge spent most of their time conversing and sitting at another table. It seems like the group that came in was his family or friends. This alone wouldnt have made it a bad experience but the waitress just came around randomly when ever she felt like.
