This place is a major hidden gem and I was so bummed to drive by the other day and see construction blocking the restaurant. If you're looking for a flavor packed meal and like the option of eating with your hands, this is the spot for you. When we visited the Ethiopian restaurant with a group of eight, they managed to seat our big group efficiently, even though it's a small space. The service was awesome and they delivered multiple mind-blowing platters of food to our table effortlessly. Our vegetarians and our meat eaters alike were extremely happy. How many people get tricked by the weird door situation here? Or maybe it's just me. You walk into the main entrance of Ethiopian Restaurant and immediately wonder how much seating there is, turn the corner, and realize that's a whole other half. I'm sure they could fit long tables of groups here, as their combination platters are designed for many people. There were 5 of us, and we ordered Combination I - plenty of food for everyone! Between the two of us, we ordered the Special Tibs and the Beef Stew. They came out on a massive tray of Injera with cabbage and lentils. It was too much food for 2 people, but we enjoyed making a dent in it. Everything was delicious. I have tried a few Ethiopian spots around town, but I may have found my favorite. Our friends were craving Ethiopian for quite some time and we finally made time to make it up to Denver for dinner together. I rarely crave Ethiopian, but this may have changed my palate to want it more. This is off Colfax, so it could be challenging on some nights to find street parking, but we were lucky and didn't have too much trouble. It's a small operation with a few people being the cooks and waiter. There are probably about 15 tables available and it was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday evening. It's a cozy spot, but they do have a table to accommodate a bigger party. For the price you get A LOT of food. We decided to order the combo 1 for everyone and it has a little bit of everything for you to try. The tray was big enough to serve the jolly green giant. It is huge. The spicy chicken stew was tender and the sauce has a bit of a kick. We really loved the cabbage and potatoes. It's so simple, but for some reason the flavors just go so well with the injera ( their flatbread). We also really liked the yellow lentils, it was so well seasoned. Everything was just delicious. All the dishes had their own unique flavors and paired seamlessly with the injera. We had enough leftovers for another meal the next evening. This restaurant by far has had the best seasoning and overall flavors. I highly recommend this spot if you've never been. read more

Table favorites included the collard greens, the green lentils, the split peas, and the stewed beef. The Injera (spongy Ethiopian bread) was the perfect amount of sour - it really enhanced the flavors of the dishes. If you love spicy food, you're in luck! The best Ethiopian food I have had in quite some time. We had the Kay Wot (Spicy Beef Stew) and Special Tibs (Spicy Sautéed Beef). Both were flavorful and wonderful. The Yater Alicha (yellow lentils) were very good. The Tekel Gomen (cabbage and potatoes with onion) was probably my favorite version of this that I have ever had. The place was clean. We tried the Ethiopian beer they offered which was very tasty! It had a strong yeasty flavor to it which I don't encounter very often. Between three people we shared the option #2 platter. It was just enough for all of us to get stuffed with a little left over. It would be perfect for 4 people to split. The owner came out and told us how to eat and what we were eating. Everything had great flavor, but we couldn't stop taking about the chicken stew. No utensils for any meal. You use the chapati, a spongy flat bread to pick everything up. This is a must stop in Denver. It's an unassuming little restaurant on Colfax, but it is SO worth a visit. They have a great open kitchen as you walk in, and then a separate dining area. They have a large menu, and I would recommend any of the combos if you're looking for some variety! They have both vegetarian and meat options for the specials and they have a 2-3 person "requirement " but you can always just order up to fill that. You get a nice serving of injera (think and tangy crepe-like) as the vessel to eat your main dish. I still love this place. The vegetarian combo 3 was phenomenal. Tons of food for two people - we couldn't finish it though we tried our best. The guys got some beef dishes, which they seemed to enjoy. The yellow split peas and the spiced collard greens were my favorite. The next best was mixing a bite with the green lentils and spicy red lentils. As I write this I just want to go back and eat more of the food along with the spongey and fresh engira. Hopefully I'll be back sooner rather than later! But beware - cash only and slow.
