My friend comes here at least once a week and it did not disappoint. The service was excellent and everyone was really nice. The food came out hot, yummy, and plenty to share with a friend. I will be back for sure!

Came to Denver for a weekend and decided to try Ethiopian food. It was really cold outside and the food felt so cozy, like a hug. Server was really kind and explained how to eat the food as it was our first time trying it. I recommend it blindly!!! I think it's great to go with a group or friends

How many people get tricked by the weird door situation here? Or maybe it's just me. You walk into the main entrance of Ethiopian Restaurant and immediately wonder how much seating there is, turn the corner, and realize that's a whole other half. I'm sure they could fit long tables of groups here, as their combination platters are designed for many people. There were 5 of us, and we ordered Combination I - plenty of food for everyone! I love eating Ethiopian food, scooping mouthfuls of spiced meat and veggies with injera, which I learned is NOT gluten-free. The chicken was surprisingly one of my favorites, and I can't remember what else. Definitely bring people, and go for the combos if you come here!

Food was fantastic! Authentic Ethiopian and the chicken drum sticks in curry sauce was by far the best dish from the Combo platter 1. Service was nothing spectacular, inside of restaurant was nice so don't be turned off by the entrance. All in all you should come here for the food which was very tasty.

Amazing flavors, family run since the 80's. The kitchen is small as is the dining room with one lovely lady running front of house by herself so only come if you have time to relax and enjoy. The flavors of dishes were incredible although the beef and lamb could have been more tender. Would definitely recommend to a friend and will be back. Favorite dish was the Misir Wat.

    Two things i love

The vegan combo plate... LOVER. The taste was like a sonnet written with the purest form of love. They might as well have named it the "Romancing Your Mouth" plate. I felt sorrow the minute the meal was over. If you want a meal that makes you swoon, this food will CHARM YOU.

One of the best places you can go for a bite in Denver. Bring a big group, the servings are fun to share and you'll have the opportunity to try a lot. The team is caring, quick, and make it an all around amazing place to stop in!

I have tried a few Ethiopian spots around town, but I may have found my favorite. Our friends were craving Ethiopian for quite some time and we finally made time to make it up to Denver for dinner together. I rarely crave Ethiopian, but this may have changed my palate to want it more. This is off Colfax, so it could be challenging on some nights to find street parking, but we were lucky and didn't have too much trouble. It's a small operation with a few people being the cooks and waiter. There are probably about 15 tables available and it was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday evening. It's a cozy spot, but they do have a table to accommodate a bigger party. For the price you get A LOT of food. We decided to order the combo 1 for everyone and it has a little bit of everything for you to try. The tray was big enough to serve the jolly green giant. It is huge. The spicy chicken stew was tender and the sauce has a bit of a kick. We really loved the cabbage and potatoes. It's so simple, but for some reason the flavors just go so well with the injera ( their flatbread). We also really liked the yellow lentils, it was so well seasoned. Everything was just delicious. All the dishes had their own unique flavors and paired seamlessly with the injera. We had enough leftovers for another meal the next evening. This restaurant by far has had the best seasoning and overall flavors. I highly recommend this spot if you've never been.

It was my very first time trying Ethiopian food and wow - this place is great! Being new to the cuisine and not sure where to start, I split the vegetarian combo and the spicy meats combo with a few friends so everyone could try a bit of everything. SO good. As soon as we all started digging in, all you could hear around the table was "Oh my gosh, you gotta try this!" and "Have you tried this one yet? It's amazing!" Table favorites included the collard greens, the green lentils, the split peas, and the stewed beef. The Injera (spongy Ethiopian bread) was the perfect amount of sour - it really enhanced the flavors of the dishes. If you love spicy food, you're in luck! Their spicy chicken and spicy lentils definitely pack a punch. In addition to delicious food, they also have a friendly, efficient staff. The aesthetic of the restaurant is very no-frills-authentic; the focus is where it should be - on the food. If you're looking for a great place to enjoy stellar Ethiopian food, look no further!

I loved the bread and how it worked perfectly with everything we had. I wish the food was a bit spicier though. I liked how each part had a unique taste and all worked together well. I will be getting the bread again.

I took a lovely woman on a date tonight and this is the restaurant she chose. The parking is sketchy and simply on street parking on East Colfax. It's not an especially good area. The restaurant itself is wonderful. The food is authentic and especially tasty. Such a wonderful variety of cuisine to choose from. The service is prompt and courteous. The bill was even reasonable. I wish they had a dessert of some kind.

But don't overlook Lucy near Colfax/Quebec - it's full of fresh and flavorful (and also filling) favorites served in a clean and inviting space. One of my favorite offerings there is the chicken stirfry known as Yedoro Tibs in Amharic and Nay Tibsi Derho in Tigrinya. Redolent with the spice mixture Berbere and sided with soft supple rounds of the teff-based flatbread variously called Injera or Tayta, the dish is served in plentiful portions, ensuring that prospective diners will be suitably satiated. However, I can also attest to the potato stew (Yedinich Wot / Tsebhi Dinish) I sampled on my most recent visit to Lucy. This dish is a bit more mild, utilizing seasonings such as turmeric and ginger for a mellower mouthfeel. Nevertheless, the savory sauce is still a worthy accompaniment to the sizable chunks of potato and carrot which can be found within it. I was very pleased by my meal. But honestly, anything you try at Lucy is sure to be a winner, so stop by and check out one of Colfax's less-heralded Habesha gems.

I would like to say if it's your first time just know the "bread" ingera is more sour-ish and is kind of an acquired taste. I would say I have been here many many times now and have taken to go and eaten in small groups and bigger groups. I would say the area is definitely very beautiful and cultural. The take out doesn't really give you the experience so I would say eating there is better. I wouldn't say costumer service is above and beyond but they definitely are nice and have helped us taking out food to go and check on us to see how we're doing. The food is definitely more expensive than I would wish but lots of time and effort go into making the food so it is nice to splurge on this kind of food. Now since I have been here many times, every time the food is amazing and hot (not spicy hot but temp hot) waiting time isn't too long and it's usually nice and quiet enough to hear your friends not too quiet where you can hear a pen drop. FYI they are not welcome to outside food/drink in case one person wants other food.

This used to be our favorite Ethiopian spot until our most recent take out experience…read more We called to order two vegetarian combos at 5:30 and were told told to come in pick up at 5:45. When we get there at 5:45, we notice that the food is packed up in a medium (9"x13") sized aluminum pan with lid. In the past we'd gotten our meals in two styrofoam take out boxes with plenty of food so I was initially excited to see the new packaging because I believed the quantity would be the same or more. We get home 5 mins later and were sorely disappointed by our order. There were plenty of lentils but the orange ones were undercooked and lacked flavor. There were only about two bites of the collard greens/Gomen wat. And usually Mama África supplies more potatoes spears with their carrot and cabbage side, this time, we also only got two bites of the cabbage, no potatoes. Not to mention, the green beans were definitely canned and had no additional flavor to them. We asked for a side of chickpea soup/shiro wat and were disappointed to find that it too lacked flavor and was mostly oil. The worst part in addition to all the above was that the food was cold and the injera tasted stale and lacked its usual sourness. To add insult to injury, the meal was nearly 70 dollars in total for something that barely fed one person. This was the first time I ever wanted to ask for a refund for our food because we barely received one portion of the veggie combo, not the two we paid for. I hate to leave a one star review for a small business but the quality and quantity of food went down drastically.
