A great local spot for a nicer meal. We dined there with a larger group for a birthday. We called to make a reservation which I highly recommend, they were very busy on Saturday. Very cool feel inside the restaurant with live music when we were there. Our server Tucker was great - very knowledgeable of the menu and checked on us often. We split the filet and crab cake special and it was delicious. It came with a salad and potato. They split the plate ahead of time for us which was very nice. Mix up in requested area to be seated. ok Our party of 7 seated in Cauthen room, nice as this is a private room. Apps & dinner wonderful except Tracy Jones Ribeye was excessively fatty (not normal). After we were finished with our entree. waitress asked "can I get you anything?" My mom asked for a dessert menu that's when she mentioned that the next reservation was waiting on our table. WOW. We were there 2 hrs on the dot at that moment. 40 mins of that was waiting on dinner. We felt bad for even thinking about staying for dessert. My mom asked if they had creme brûlée before ordering her meal (she loves brûlée & went lite on her entree in order to have room for dessert) so I said we were staying altho she was going to pass. There were 3 desserts & a bourbon ordered. Both creme brûlées were burnt, when we complained waitress said that's how it always looks. Mgr came to us as i requested, took my moms brûlée off bill & apologized defending the waitress being under pressure to turn the table twice. In essence the waitress asked us to leave. RUDE. Mgr didn't even say I hope you'll give us another chance. All ours bills totaled $600. I was totally embarrassed especially since my husband & I frequent Walts & wanted to share this fine dining with my family. My family enjoyed the meal, we enjoyed our time together, our bus person (Jacob) was wonderful. I think if Walts cared they would have offered a $25 gc to us to come back again. That $25 is only a drop in the bucket towards their prices so that would have been a good business practice. This is my 1st negative yelp review but feel this strongly about this visit. read more

If I could give No stars I would. Every year we make plans to celebrate our families birthdays dinners since 5 of us have birthdays from February to April. Each year it's someone turn to pics the place. We start to plan this in January. We Been trying to get reservations for a month for today to seat 11 people. Been told on the phone 3 times we can't do reservations for that many people. It's first come first serve. We show up at 5:00 when they open and are told rudely we can't sit that many people in a group. If they wasn't so rude about it. We would of sat at two different tables. You have tables of 10 and advertise you have private rooms. We went somewhere else that was glad to take our $500 +. read more

First off, high compliments to the service from top to bottom. 6 stars for all the interactions with staff we had. The ambiance was great. Quick complaints are the mashed potatoes and bordelaise were cold. The Mac n cheese was a bit over cooked and mushy and the cheese sauce was runny and really didn't hit like a lot of other quality Mac n cheese you may have had. Same with the bisque. Just wasn't that creamy and really wouldn't recommend it. The chili was excellent and the flavor of the steak was very unique and delicious. The bananas foster was incredible. Comical at best want to show off buy a cheap horse and win the derby!. So, my first experience here as I've heard amazing things! Well not bad not good. Black tie? They want you to think so! Flip flops are apparently ok. 3 for dinner 250.00 tab! We received the main before our salads! They also had a problem with replacing Silverware after each course. I haven't been to Walt's in years but someone was talking about their filet mignon chili so a few friends and I made a reservation. I guess they didn't get the memo about reduced capacity because the place was packed ! The acoustics are bad...the noise level was insane. It took a while to get seated but our server was great! She and the busser were mindful but not hovering. Two of us ordered the chili and the first flavor I tasted was salt. A little too much for me and I like salt. We all agreed that the meat was definitely not filet mignon. I'm quite sure it was chuck. Very stringy. It wasn't bad but I strongly object to the misrepresentation. I know meat prices have soared but just be honest. Otherwise, the food was good. Not great but we enjoyed our meals. Probably won't be returning anytime soon. read more

Sadly, I think Walt's is slipping a bit. We dined here last night and noticed things just seemed not as good as previous trips. The salted rye bread was cold, and I only had one piece, a sure sign it wasn't good. The ribs seemed less meaty and more chewy than normal. The biggest disappointment was the crab cake. This used to be my favorite in town, but they've changed it and not for the better. It's now an Asian style crab cake smothered in a sweet sauce and other odd things. Still THE best ribs in the World!! My absolute favorite place for Ribs! Kentucky-style bite-off-the-Bone spare ribs (similar to Carson's in Chicago). Not quite the same as it used to be; particularly the service. The old servers were professionals. This includes, I think, one of the owners or maitre-d's who needs some basic instruction on how...when to serve. The bartenders are great and the music is always good. I want to repeat: the bartenders are really great. Their salt-rye bread is old-school excellent (i.e. really close to the original). I hear good things about their steaks but can't bring myself to get anything other than their ribs. Baked potatoes are actually and disappointingly sub-par on multiple occasions. Final Take = Best Ribs in the World (my mouth is watering now just thinking about then)! Walt's just needs to improve in their service (other than the noted excellent bartenders) and upgrade their source for potatoes and they will be Golden. Maybe someday Platinum. read more

Came here for dinner last night and I wouldn't say I'm crazy blown away, but it's not a bad joint overall. We ordered a dozen of the oysters which were pretty good--inconsistent in size and many shells found in the pieces, but overall, the meat had a good bite, the flavors weren't too briny, and they were balanced. As for entrees and sides, we ordered a 6 oz filet with the foie gras sauce as well as a filet with the mushroom and onions. The foie gras sauce honestly didn't blow me away like foie gras usually does, but the mushrooms and onions were pretty good. The filets were good, but don't expect anything like a Jeff Ruby's steak here. The Mac and cheese was delicious, and the crisp onions were fine, but overall, this place is nothing spectacular. read more

Another (not so hidden) gem! I have passed this place approximately 1000x in my life, but FINALLY tried Walt's Hitching Post last week for a birthday dinner celebration. Valet parking is available, albeit completely unnecessary. We were running late to meet friends so opted to spend the $3. We walked in to meet our group of 6, and I was immediately surprised with the casual ambiance. I would describe it as "shabby shabby chic." The service is top notch, plating is formal, but the decor is rustic, with a hole in the wall feel. Which makes sense. After all, Walt's is mostly known for ribs! When it came to the menu, I had a hard time deciding. Everything looked amazing, from the sandwiches, to the ribs. I decided to go with a classic filet with mashed potatoes. All entrees come with a house salad - oh and delicious rye bread! I usually am not a rye bread fan, but Walt's really cranks up the flavor with salt and butter. 10 out of 10. We had onion straws for the table and oh my gosh - YUM. Highly recommend. The ribs looks delicious, but I also loved my filet. It is charred so it has a unique flavor. The Mac and cheese was definitely the best decision though. They use a spiral noodle and there is a perfect amount of flavor. We almost had leftovers but the group helped us or by finishing them off! Big hit. The only negative I have is that at the end of the night, the valet stand had packed it up, and we walked to our car. Again, valet is completely unnecessary, but I would have expected them to finish what they started. All in all, I give Walt's a big 5 stars, and can't wait to go back! read more

The first time I went to the walt's, it was delicious. I couldn't wait to go back. I wasn't a huge yelper then so unfortunately I didn't document that trip. I just remember loving my steak and drinks, and feeling like it was a intimate setting. I decided to make the 50 minute trip down there for my boyfriends birthday. I made the reservation a week in advance. We were seated immediately. I was pretty let down but the well lit room where we were seated with two families. It was on the side of the restaurant behind the bar and not the main dining room. I wish the host would have read the situation and realized we were a couple celebrating something. We ended up moving to the bar, which although nice, was not intimate. Though I was initially let down I remained hopeful. The shrimp cocktail was delicious. My amaretto sour cocktail on the other hand tasted like metal! My boyfriend even agreed. I thought I could slurp it down quickly. One big gulp and I knew that wasn't happening. I ordered another cocktail, but didn't want to complain and make my boyfriend feel awkward on his special day. Having bartending experience if someone orders another drink when their drink is over 3/4's full I would have noticed, asked if something was wrong with the drink, then comped the next drink or that one. Though I guess I shouldn't expect that out of all bartenders and it was ultimately my fault for not saying something. Peach mule was good though! Being at the bar I heard a lot about the staff problems, which did interest me coming from a restaurant background. My boyfriend on the other hand was annoyed by it. It certainly was not professional, certainly at a finer dining restaurant. Next was the steaks. He got surf and turf. The bartender served his Oscar style on the side. Literally a plate with badly cooked asparagus, crab, then the sauce. I thought they should At least be mixed and assembled. The lobster was rubbery. He enjoyed his meal though so I'm happy about that. I had a prime rib. Which I will say kudos to the kitchen that the steaks were cooked to a perfect medium rare plus liked we asked. Though the prime rib was bland even with garlic butter, horseradish, and/or au jus. Yes I tried all 3 separately and together, hoping to find some enjoyment. It just didn't seem to happen. If this restaurant wasn't so far from me and there weren't so many competitors I may possibly give it another try but because of those factors I don't plan to be back. So I work right up the road from this restaurant and they take all the big whigs there when they come in from Boston - so figured it had to be good. We went here for my brother and dad's birthdays as a family. It's a cool place. Cool interior, stone and hardwood floor. I'm an advent bourbon drinker so their selection was awesome. We got seated in a corner and you needed to break out your phone flashlight as you couldn't even read the menu! Very low light. Our waitress said they were famous for their ribs and steak. I got 1/4 chicken (delicious!) and 1/2 rack of ribs (more on those later). My brothers and mom got the "Tracy Jones". Lets just say that steak was just like the person it's named after....over hyped, over-priced, and not very good at baseball (). In all seriousness I tried the steak and for it being "bone-in" it was average. Now, I'm like Eric Church "I like sleeping in on Saturday's, I love college football games, and good BBQ". These ribs were suppose to be "fall off the bone" and I would be "gnawing on the bone". Lets just say to get the ribs apart it was like tearing a phone book in half. They were TOUGH!!! I do ribs all the time on my smoker and finish them on the grill and they are fall off the bone tender. However it is true, I was gnawing on the bone...but that's because there was meat still on the bone I couldn't get off. I got a side of their "home fries" but they aren't what you're thinking. You're thinking home fries are cubbed, fried taters....these were medallion fired taters and onions (onions were okay). I'm giving them 2 stars. I ate lunch here often in the 1980s and decided to give it a try for dinner last week. Things started well; the ambiance of the place is calming and comfortable. For dinner I went with the ribs and chicken combo. Bottom line: the chicken was way overcooked and dry as the desert. The ribs had very little meat on them and were so tough I literally couldn't eat them. When you complain that they are tough, they'll tell you that you have to bite the meat off the bone because they don't parboil them like other places. Total bull, I've been smoking ribs for a lot of years and my ribs aren't parboiled, actually have meat on them, you can bite them cleanly, and they have flavor, unlike Walt's. I chose the home fries as a side, they were over-cooked and flavorless. One bite and I was done. My dinner was the worst meal I've been served in a long time. I'll not be going back. read more

We were seated right away and our waitress was very good but that's where it ended.. The room they put us in the tables were so close I thought the people they sat down next to us were sitting with us also everytime the lady would flip her hair I thought some of it would land in my food. I was debating between Walt's and The Precinct for my 30th Birthday dinner, and I decided on Walt's since the atmosphere is looked more casual, compared to the latter. I was more than happy with my choice! The atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for: Laid back with live music and a relaxed ambiance. It was decorated in tasteful western decor that reminded me of a place my grandparents would have frequented back in the day. This is definitely a compliment haha! We started with the salted rye (amazing) and salads. I ordered the 6oz Filet topped with garlic herb butter and my boyfriend got the 18oz Chimichurri Bone In Rib-eye. We both opted for the mashed potatoes as our side and split the shareable side of asparagus. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and mine had a delicious outer crust. The garlic herb butter was to die for! The potatoes were creamy and delicious, I could have had a whole plate of 'em! The asparagus was kind of bland (steamed without any seasoning), but were so full from the salad/ steak/ potatoes, that we really didn't need it. I was a little disappointed with dessert for a few reasons. They were out of the two desserts that I picked (key lime pie and I forgot the other), so I went with the bourbon chocolate chip cookie pie. While it was delicious, it was only a chocolate chip cookie in a pie crust. Overall, our experience was something that left us planning our next visit the second we walked out. I read about Walt's Hitching Post in the Enquirer and was looking forward to our dining experience. To be fair, I liked the southern atmosphere they were going for. The salted bread had way too much salt on it, but the tomato garlic dressing was very tasty. My Steak Oscar was good, but not worth the hype. Their quality of food did not warrant their high prices either. We spend over $200 for 3 of us and that's without dessert or after dinner drinks of any kind. To top it off, we were put in a corner and the three tables surrounding us all had small, rowdy children. Don't get me wrong, I am a parent myself and it's not the restaurants fault, but I even heard two of the wait staff complaining about it. We still tipped 20% because our waitress was exceptional. Went here on a Saturday night for my mother-in-law's birthday with a party of 7 and a reservation for a private room. Room was ready, and we were taken right in. The decor is rustic and charming. The staff dresses professionally in a way that makes the ambiance classier. Our server was friendly and upbeat. We started with cocktails, which were small but delicious. One was not right, and they fixed it right away. I had their house manhattan, which was very well done. The whole restaurant has a horse racing theme, which is done well. All the martinis are named after triple-crown winners. The menu offers enough items to be interesting without overwhelming you. Honestly, the steak, ribs, and smoked chicken are so good, I have to say that's the route to go. I got the 16 oz. strip, which was cooked perfectly. They season their steaks, sear them on the outside (char-crusted; don't be alarmed!) and then finish them on a grill or perhaps an oven. The portions were large enough that I cut my potato and steak in half and took half home for lunch the next day. Skip the asparagus. Others at the table got the chicken which looked delicious and the scallops on a bed of grits, which looked good as well. Every entree comes with salad and potato choice. I got the caesar salad which was fine, but not extraordinary. Overall, we had an excellent experience, and an enjoyable evening. I only have one complaint: our entrees came out about 3 minutes after our salads. So most of the table was still working on salads, while our waitress crammed our entree plates on the table. It's a double-edged sword, because I'm glad she brought the entrees out while they were hot and while our steaks were cooked to the proper temperature, but I wish the kitchen had timed it better so we had longer to work on our salads and didn't feel rushed through that course. read more

While the food is always good this time was no different. My issue was the COVID precautions. We are picking on when we choose to go out and typically do pick up. We were directly next to a table to where If you moved your elbow back you would hit that table. We were not 6ft apart from other tables. While we were also by a server station and constantly hears the servers complain about their job, customers ect. Too many servers walking around not wearing a mask properly either. Would not go back during COVID. Again, food was great but they are not following the proper protocol which is disappointing. read more

Smoked wings were regarded as good, but not to be ordered again. The same sentiment applied unfortunately to the ribs. We got the "stay on the bone" variety and frankly I make better ones in the oven from Costco. Best thing on the menu was fried chicken livers and tomatoes. Would order those again. Side dishes tasted like they were from a can, not home made. Desserts were ordinary. One came with a bug crawling around in the topping. It was replaced with "Sorry" from the wait staff, but no other compensation. Overall, for a place that came with good recommendations, we left wishing we'd each spent our $45/head somewhere else. I hadn't been to Walt's in years! So Mr David and I thought it was high time we paid them a visit. Since the restaurant has hanged ownership, the inside of the building has changed a bit. The ambience was great; I felt like I was walking in to a saloon on the Wild West. The staff was incredibly friendly and took their customer service seriously. We were very impressed with the service we received. Walt's is famous for their salty rye bread. It's different than it used to be, but I still enjoyed it. For dinner I ordered the 6oz filet and Mr David ordered a full rack of ribs with 1/4 chicken. Each entree is served with a house salad and your choice of potato. I ordered the mashed potatoes, which I thought were pretty basic and unimpressive. David ordered the friend potatoes and onions which were delicious. I felt like the house salads were pretty whimpy, but they were fresh. My filet was cooked perfectly, and I added on the garlic and herb butter which really livened it up a bit. It was an excellent cut of meat and I enjoyed every bite. Mr David enjoyed his meal as well, the chicken was better than the ribs. The ribs didn't have much meat on them, and we probably wouldn't order them again. But the chicken was juicy and flavorful! And the barbecue sauce is delicious! Just as we were both wondering how we would get all the grease and barbecue sauce off our fingers, our server approached the table, tray in hand, with two moist wet towels. That was a nice touch which we both appreciated. I'm not a dessert person, but Mr David is and wanted to give the turtle cheese cake a try. I really like Walt's. It's one of the best steaks in town, a fun vibe and awesome bar staff. I'm usually a single diner, so I always sit at the bar for dinner and it's nice when the back bar is open because it gives me another option when the front is full. But here's the problem. I walk in tonight at 8:15 and the front bar is packed. So I ask the hostesses if the back bar is open. They say yes it is, but they can't seat anyone else because it's closing. Isn't 8:15 a bit early to close a section when the only alternative is so full it can't seat any others. So my only choice was to leave and go elsewhere. I'm glad business is so good you can let customers walk out. This happens fairly often and I end up leaving about half the time. I'll be back. Im still giving you 4 stars. I'm just venting because I really wanted that strip steak tonight. read more
