I have given them good reviews in the past, but thought I should come back to say their food and their service is consistently above the rest. It is not often that I clean my plate, but I do there. I stumbled upon Bistro 407 thanks to Yelp. We love eating breakfast out and Bistro 407 looked good and it was relatively close, so we made plans to go. We went on a Saturday morning. Even though the restaurant is a bit out of the way, I was concerned it would be packed. It was not. As stated before, the restaurant is quite large inside. We were greeted and seated quickly. We had some coffee as we perused the menu. Oh my, so many good options. I had biscuits and gravy with bacon and a side of goetta. Mark had the carnivore skillet. Both meals were substantial, comforting and delicious. The potatoes were real potatoes. They were good, though I would have liked them a bit crispier. Mark's skillet breakfast looked incredible. We were a party of 7. The food was your normal cozy restaurant grub. Two of us ordered drinks. The meatloaf, potatoes and vegetables were good. 2 of us ordered chicken salad and they were out of it. Great food with a full bar. Service was good and not pushy. One of the few places north of the river to have a hot brown on the menu which was the specific purpose of our trip. The hot brown was well made with carved turkey breast and carved ham which made it particularly flavorful. Nestled in rustic Cleves, that seems be developing a host specialty craft and boutique stores it's a popular choice for locals and other visitors. This place is worth the trip. read more

Came here on a Saturday night and wasn't crowded but not a bad crowd. This is the second time I've been here. I didn't have pictures of the first time but I had the fried chicken and the bread pudding and they really good. I really like the fried chicken which had a good crust and was moist. The wife had breakfast with goetta and the goetta what I thought I heard was homemade, don't quote me in that but it tasted like it was homemade. This time I had the blackened bleu bayou burger and the wife had the Italian sub with onion rings. They ask you the temperature you would like the burger and I asked for medium. Chances that the burger is cooked this was long shot and it was slightly over medium but not enough to dry it out. The burger had a very good taste and it was a handmade patty which I like. The bleu cheese had the nice strong taste and you get a bleu cheese dressing on the side. Overall this was a better tasting black and bleu burger that I've had. The wife liked the Italian sub. It was a good size and she thought it was better than what she has had. Onion rings were good. I couldn't tell if they were hand made or if they were premade. They were thick and the onion came out when you bit into them which made me think they were fresh onions. I did get a root beer float. Nothing really special about that. read more

Yet another good visit to Nick's American Cafe. In the past I've had some good dishes both of the breakfast and lunch varieties. On this occasion I tried one of their burgers; the Blackened Bayou Burger. According to the menu it's "served Cajun style, crusted with spices, bleu cheese crumbles, as well as bleu cheese dressing on the side. The burger itself was perfectly cooked and had tons of flavour. Add in both the crumbles and the dressing and it made for a dynamite sandwich! It was stellar bleu cheese dressing too obviously made in house. One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The plate came with potato chips which was fine but not that exciting. All in all another great experience at Nick's I continue to highly recommend it. read more

A bit of a gem, this establishment is located in the Cleves area and serves up some amazing meals. Come here for breakfast, brunch or dinner this place has it all. The decore is quaint with a small town feel but the flavors and from-scratch food are excellent! They offer a wide variety of different types of dishes I can't wait to try some more. The friendly owner can be frequently found making sure everyone is well taken care of and that everything is to-their-liking. The KY hot brown I have ordered the past couple of times is phenomenal and has been modeled after the original from the KY hotel where it is derived. It came out piping hot and will fill the hungriest of appetites. They also have a rotating dessert line-up that will rival any of the great places in town. We met another couple on a Saturday night as we had not been there since the new owners. Love the new decor. We were seated quickly, and our server was great. We ordered drinks - wine and cocktails - which were fine for everyone but me. I ordered a mule with Jameson - it was very strong. The server offered to put it in a tall glass with more ginger beer - which made it fine. They have great entrees listed and I ordered the pork chops. After our order was placed, the server came back and told me they were out of pork chops. At 7 PM on a Saturday night, they were out of pork chops! Now I am trying to find a second choice, I asked her to give me the pork chop plate with their meat loaf instead. She was happy to do that. The meat loaf was good, just not my Mom's meatloaf. It is very dense and has a thick sauce on it. I would suggest getting the sauce on the side. The rest of the meals were good. First time at Nicks was nothing less than good old delicious American cuisine. They offer many daily specials and deserts. With many menu choices, it was difficult to decide what I wanted. I finally chose the 1/2 slab ribs with rings. I was not disappointed, as they were delicious. Paired with an ice cold Bud light in a frosted pint glass, made me a happy man. We shared fried green tomatoes and I had Italian potato soup, a salad and the Cajun catfish (broiled) with a baked potato. Plus lemon meringue pie for dessert. That was a lot of food and I had to take some home. Everything tasted great. Server Christina was friendly, attentive and efficient. The owner (?) walked around checking on patrons like a mother hen to make sure everything was OK. There were lots of daily specials listed on a blackboard. My wife often doesn't like these kind of places that I pick for lunch, but she loved this one. There was a sign outside mentioning bread pudding with sauce--I'll try that next time.
