Their non-traditional aspect is notably the presence of non-dairy flavors. From what I sampled, the quality was high. My non-dairy berry cheesecake was interesting, but was outpaced by the classic simplicity of the stracciatella (plain gelato with chocolate drizzled inside) and a chocolate hazelnut flavor that blows Nutella out of the water. They have a nice little outdoor seating area across the street from Findlay market and the accompanying streetcar stop.
