I stopped by after a "Tour and Treat" at the market and enjoyed taking in all of the flavor variety available! I had a couple children with me who were eager to sample multiple flavors, and the gentleman helping us was extremely patient with the kids. One of my kids opted to try Rose Petal, and the other the Italian Stallion flavor, which I thought was impressive given they would typically just choose chocolate or vanilla! All of the flavors looked so delicious and we were compelled to try the unique ones. A small cup of gelato is a pretty generous portion and it is so rich that it fills you up. Which is good, because I think the small comes out about a seven dollar price point, which is pretty pricey for my budget. This location is right inside one of the main outdoor seating areas, so there's plenty of spots to sit on a nice day. There are 3 to 4 seats at the bar directly by the register. I tried gooey butter cake, which was delicious as you would expect! The gelato was cream cheese based with fresh chunks of cake. Delicious, I'll be back! read more

If you are more used to the standard fare of boxed ice-cream makers with storefronts around Cincinnati--delicious in their own right--Dojo will reveal to you why ice cream is something people dedicated their lives to in the past, and still a worthy endeavor today. Dojo understand what I'm trying to tell you? Definitely a big fan of this gelato. It just about scores five stars because the guy has no problem letting you taste as many as you like with metal spoons which I appreciate so they're not going in the trash. I had a bunch of different flavours and they were all good. None of them blew me away. The Salted Caramel was definitely the standout. Dutch chocolate is nice but a little basic. The stracciatella doesn't taste anything like the Italian version and in general this gelato is honestly more like ice cream as far as I can tell. If you get the red flavours, it's Rojo Gelato. I could easily knock off a star or two because it's called gelato and tastes a lot more like ice cream and nothing like Italy and nothing like the best gelato which is in New York City and Boston and New Hampshire of all places and of course in Bruges Belgium. But instead of judging it based on gelato standards I will judge it based on American ice cream standards and by those standards it's just about a five-star. Affordable and very friendly with lots of free samples and all the flavors taste good - a couple of them taste excellent. That's all I ask for in an American ice cream joint. This local gelato brand has an outlet at the end of the food hall, giving it a bit more space and a couple of dedicated seats, which most businesses in there do not have. The flavor selection didn't have some of the things I would have hoped for, but I did find some interesting ones. Gooey butter cake delivered the butter taste that it promised; more interesting was a mango sorbet with chocolate chips. Mint chip is the standard, and there are many other chocolate chip ice cream flavors, but no one ever seems to put chips in sorbet, which arguably needs them more. The chocolate bits were quality, and the overall flavor smooth. I might hope for a better selection at one of their larger shops. read more

That's high praise. It has many gelato flavors. There are also a few sorbettos, all of which are vegan. I had the banana sorbetto. The single scoop is about $5, but it is a pretty big scoop and it's totally worth that. It can now be found in other parts of the city. It's original location in the market is still the best. There was a gentleman there who spoke to me prior to the employee who was helping someone and shared that he is there daily. He described some of the menu items to me and how the gelato is prepared. The staff person was very helpful and answer my questions about the preparation and educating me on the dessert. I was able to sample a variety of different items prior to ordering. I ended up going with the lemon rosemary sorbet. The Frozen treat was really flavorful you can really taste both the Rosemary and lemon flavor. It was very light but tasty. The portion size was pretty good as well for the cost. It seemed to be a very popular place as there were several other families in line after me and it was a rainy day. I will definitely return to the location to try some other homemade gelato flavors. It was good customer service as well as a good tasting dessert. Dojo Gelato has consistently offered fresh, unique flavors. This past visit, the staff were not very friendly, they barely spoke to us at all and were not very welcoming, but I will not let this overshadow the deliousness of the gelato. This time I tried the Nutella gelato with strawberry compote on top. The flavors combined into a delectable treat on a hot summer day. I was disappointed that I received such a small amount of strawberries, but nevertheless I still enjoyed the gelato. It is very helpful that you can sample the flavors before choosing. We took our gelato to the tables directly outside the doors of Findlay Market, so it was nice to have the outdoor seating option. Oh my gosh, Dojo makes me squeal like a little girl full of glee. All of my favorite kid flavors are here. And in gelato form! Whoa man...I'm a fan. The Captain Crunch is sweet and flavorful and tastes straight up like the cereal and c'mon..you have to admit you still like it. The Freshman 15 is the perfect mix of peanut butter and chocolate. I really like it because it's not over the top chocolatey rich. It's a very smooth and 'easy' flavor to enjoy on a hot sunny day. I see they strive for all natural ingredients and that's great and all. (It really is). But on a whimsical day at Market, I don't give a $%@& about that. I stumbled upon this corner vendor while exploring Findlay market. They had a very interesting selection of flavors; Vietnamese coffee, lavender honey, and OLIVE OIL (?!?!), to name a few. There's 12 flavors total. Well, being Vietnamese, I gravitated towards the Vietnamese coffee flavor. Hot diggity, it reminded me of the cafe du monde brand coffee that old Vietnamese folks drink. It had a rich flavor. The olive oil was interesting. I was thinking to myself, man, what the hell does olive oil taste like? Well, it was good and I would agree it's "olive oil" I am eating. It's a light , clean flavor actually. Ok, the lavender honey was fantabulous. It was fragrant, but not perfumed. It actually reminded me of honeysuckles. Anywhichway, this place rocks. I like the efficient use of metal spoons instead of plastic, disposable ones. They also sell drinks here. Minus .05 pts for minimum five dollar cc/debit card use, so bring cash if you're planning on a small purchase! read more

Dojo Gelato is the end to a lot of good things- a successful day at the market, a great meal, or an otherwise bland afternoon. I like the Vietnamese coffee, vanilla, starchiatella (standard-ish fare) but love their combinations. The peanut butter and jelly, peanut butter and siracha (see a pb theme here and my totally lack of awareness of how to spell that tasty hot sauce). I've had great sweet, savory, and otherwise traditional flavors here. Typically, though I do love what they're slinging, I split a small with the husband because I find it keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. Also, I always want more the next time around. The flavors are intense, fulfilling, interesting. Love this place! read more

Forget about the Graeter's vs. Aglamesis debate. Both are fantastic, but Dojo Gelato makes and sells the best ice cream in Cincinnati. (And, yes: Gelato IS ice cream. It's just a different type of ice cream....) Five stars for the Dojo product: The creaminess of the texture and the concentration of flavor beats all of the local competition, as good as some of it is, hands-down. The pleasures here are simple, but they are intense. Only reason to scale back a star is the prices, which are quite high. ($3.75 for an itty-bitty serving?!) But I'm not going to do it. This stuff is obviously hand-made in small batches with quality ingredients, and I recognize that this isn't anything close to cheap to do. Great customer service and awesome Gelato. I went on a Sunday which was pretty busy. I was greeted and helped right away. The gentleman told me if there are any flavors I want to sample to let him know. I sampled the lemon ginger and was not thrilled. I ended up purchasing the salted caramel gelato. It was so good! I got it in a small cup which was tiny, but I didn't need much. I just ate lunch. It was just the right size, however the pricing I thought was a little high. $4.50, but great quality. Take home a pint ($8) and they'll put 1 or 2 flavors in, one on top of the other. Combining the malted milk + coffee is amazing, and the employees have always been quick and friendly. The pint price is not unreasonable to support a local business with high quality. However, it's just high enough to give only 4 stars. It'd be better if I got some perk for how much money I spend there monthly, like a "buy two" special deal or a frequent customer card. read more

I was in for a treat at Bunbury when I came across the Dojo truck! My decision was made for me once I spotted the "Freshman 15" flavor of peanut butter Oreo. I received my scoop at once and even ordered the vegan strawberry balsamic sorbetti for my girlfriend. I'm incredibly impressed they thought to add the vegan option to make ordering much easier for the lactose intolerant folk. My girlfriend enjoyed the sorbetti so much, she went in for seconds. Which usually never happens because stuff like that is usually too tart for her. So two thumbs WAY up! The truck has a very welcoming carefree atmosphere about it in addition to its tasty treats. Even as I trudged past the Dojo truck around 11, they were still hopping! They had some suave music playing, changing colorful lights, and a bubble machine. This past weekend included a long overdue trip to Findlay Market and while enjoying some great cheese from Krause's, bread from Skirtz & Johnston, and some grub from Fresh Table, we struck up a conversation with a woman that happened to be the wife of Mike the Dojo Gelato owner. Cool! After our lunch, we headed to Dojo and decided on the Cap'n Crunch and Grapefruit sorbetto. Both flavors were great and so fresh and yummy. The small size is just the right amount to share when you don't have much room left for sweet stuff. I grabbed a sticker from the counter and, as part of the very unofficial Dojo ninja street team, I'll have to place it somewhere that will get maximum impact. While we were there we heard another customer ask about having some chocolate offerings, as they did not really have the widest variety of flavors this time. Oh well, I know they change up their flavors all the time. As per their website, they do cater, so I'll have to talk to my boss about having Dojo at our next work function. read more

Top notch gelato - the Vietnamese coffee is a favorite, but the best thing to do is try the crazy favors. I once had a cup half and half consisting of chocolate with chili on one side and pumpkin ale on the other. I didn't mix them but they were very good juxtaposed. Best combo I had there was Dutch chocolate with Captain Crunch in the same cup. Go and try the special flavors - you won't be sorry. Dojo also has fantastic espresso - a great pick-me-up after roaming around Findlay Market for an hour or so. read more

You don't need me to tell you that they have gelato and the gelato is pretty frickin good. What I will tell you is that in the colder months (yes, now), they make Italian-style sipping chocolate. If you have been fortunate enough to try the real thing in Europe, you should be jumping in your seat right about now. Hold your horses, Dojo does a pretty good job, but it is not quite the same as what you get in Italy or Paris (chocolat a l'ancienne). It is just as thick, rich and creamy, but loaded with sugar. High standards aside, if you need a major chocolate fix and you love darker chocolate, this should take care of ya, and I'm not aware of any other place in Cincy that attempts to make sipping chocolate (kudos, Dojo). It comes in a 12 oz cup, which is generous for something this rich, especially compared to its teensy European counterpart. They can even add a shot of espresso if you like. Warning: if you treasure your tongue, do not take that first eager sip. Do not. Wait a little while and then enjoy it slowly. If you are in public, don't be alarmed if people give you weird stares. You'll soon realize why when you give yourself a chocolate-stained grin in the mirror. read more

When I asked @DojoGelato on twitter about a paticular flavor of gelato and what it tasted like, I got the response back that it was as good as getting a hug from a baby Ewok. Now, not being a Star Wars fan (I've never seen any of them) the reference was wasted on me. However, I am a BIG fan of Dojo Gelato. My favorite flavors thus far being the Apple Cider Sorbetto mixed with the Pumpkin . But honestly, I've never put a spadeful into my mouth and said " no no, this is gross take it away" . More likely I used my self defense training in keeping those who tried to "share" with me far far away. Also I'm led to understand they make a mean espresso and coffee so try that too. My advice on Dojo is taste it all, taste it often. Take pints home, take them to your friends. read more

I've been to Italy a few times, and because of this I might consider myself a snob when it comes to gelato. Dojo is about as good as it gets in the USA. My first experience with Dojo was actually at the Hyde Park Farmer's market this past summer. I was told that if I mixed the pineapple-basil sorbet with the salty caramel gelato, it would taste like a pineapple upside down cake. It was absolutely true. Amazing!! I've also tried the dark chocolate, nutella, and pistachio, and of those pistachio is by far my favorite. It's so hard to find authentic pistachio gelato, but Dojo figured out the secret to creating the perfect flavor without the neon green color that many gelato shops offer. As much as I love gelato, though, I don't really crave cold desserts in the middle of winter. But that doesn't keep me away from Dojo. I went to the Findlay Market location this past weekend to try the Italian Hot Chocolate. Also referred to as Cioccolato Caldo and Sipping Chocolate, it really tastes like you're eating a liquid candy bar. AMAZING!!! Sooo rich and thick, but by far, the best dessert drink I've ever tasted. Incidentally, while I was waiting for my hot chocolate to be prepared, I sampled the Fat Elvis gelato. It's a peanut butter gelato with small bits of bacon mixed in. I was a little skeptical, it was actually pretty good. Not sure I'd want to eat an entire cup of it...but that's only because I much prefer straight sweetness to the sweet and savory mix, and the hot chocolate had me covered there. read more
