But I do not for the life of me understand the flow of the line. not paying til you get the ice cream causes a weird back flow and is hard with young kids. paying when you order makes more sense and maybe having a speaker that calls out the order would make the experience better. Sticky speaking, the ice cream is a gosh darn DELIGHT! I do wish I could have enjoyed it in air conditioned booth while some hot 50's jams played from a jukebox in the background, and a dude with too much grease in his hair offered me a cigarette. Sadly the good old days are just a memory (for my grandparents) and I was left standing in the summer heat, in a head to head race between the sun and my tongue to see who would get the the ice cream first. My mouth was happy to enjoy the delicious dessert, my repeatedly dripped on shoes were not so thrilled. I still recommend hitting up Piper's, but just be advised as to what you're walking in to by getting ice cream from an out door, standing room only shack and temper your ambiance expectations accordingly. read more

We stopped by Piper's today and it was lovely! It was nice to sit outside with our kids and enjoy the fun ice creams and toppings. The staffer was very friendly and patient as we explored the large menu and our ice creams came out quickly. Both kids got a cup with chocolate and vanilla swirl and sprinkles and M&Ms. My son said it was some of the best ice cream he's had and he wants to come back soon. I got a kinder cone vanilla with wild cherry flavoring - I loved it and I thought it was the perfect size for a little treat without it being too much sugar. read more

This place is small and located next to a Mexican restaurant. You walk up and give your order. Not a sit inside place. I think there was one table outside but I'm sure most just walk up, order and then leave. They have a ton of flavors. You can mix any ice cream with chocolate or vanilla. They special make that for an extra .50. With the way the ice cream tasted. It is well worth the extra .50. I got 4 different ice creams and only spent a little over $20. That's great compared to lots of other places. The toppings set it off on the sundaes. You can get as many toppings as you want on your sundae. It comes with the price. There are also a lot of topping options. I got strawberry crunch topping, with caramel sauce and graham cracker crumbles and whipped cream. So good and so worth coming off of my diet. My son said it was the best cotton candy ice cream he's had. All of the ice cream was full of so much flavor. We all enjoyed and devoured it. I came here all the way from Michigan. I just so happened to be taking a quick trip to Cincinnati when I ended up in Covington, Ky. To try this place out because I have ice cream and it was near the bridge. The service was great the person at the register was very nice, friendly and knowledgeable. The ice cream itself was okay my waffle bowl was little brunt but I still enjoyed the taste. The crumbled cookie dough was my highlight and my favorite. I wasn't expecting this to be an outdoor ice cream place but I'm like hey it's different, it was still nice. If I am in the area I will come back. Located right next door to one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, my granddaughter pointed out Piper's ice cream. With only two actual flavors to choose from, it's the mix-ins that sets this apart from other ice cream places. The only seating is outside which is great on a sunny day, not so much if it's raining. Closed to take an order 10 minutes before posted hours, while the menu was still out on a table where I picked it up and decided on my order before being told they wouldn't take it. Apparently they were backed up with orders that would take until 8 pm to fill. Instead of removing the menu, and taking in the sandwich board on the sidewalk, they let me waste my time and effort there. A truly annoying waste of energy going there and expecting service during regular hours. read more

Ice cream tasted just like dairy version and wasn't too sweet with lots of customisable features. They offer small cones for kids and even pup cups at an affordable price. If THE Yelper Tyler M. suggests you visit Piper's Cafe when you're in town, you better darn well visit Piper's Cafe when you're in town! I ordered breakfast online on a Sunday morning, just before hitting the road back to Columbus. It was quick, easy, and incredibly affordable for the amount of food you get. I went with a breakfast sandwich, which was pretty much a build-your-own style. I got mine with white cheddar, vegetarian sausage, and a fried egg on a croissant. I also ordered a side of fries with salt and pepper. When I ordered the fries I was surprised with a plethora of seasoning options. I went the classic route but could see myself coming here often and mixing it up. The pick up process was contactless and a breeze. My name was called at the counter and it was placed at the window. Orders were called one at a time so there was no risk of coming within six feet of a stranger. I got home to find a huge sandwich and a rather large portion of stringy fries with a yummy homemade ketchup. I honestly couldn't even finish it all and seriously can't believe it was under ten bucks. What a great local joint to have in the neighborhood. read more

This is thus far the cutest and most delicious place we have been to thus far on our trip. There is a walk up window to order, and beautiful seating outside under the trees. I have to say, I was very impressed by how homemade everything is. From the biscuit to the ketchup-- jam and sourdough bread. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with a side of eggs-- my eggs were scrambled beautifully and there are multiple options for how you'd like your gravy made-- with chicken or beef or whatever meat is available. Similarly, my partner chose to have eggs, hash browns, pork sausage and sourdough. He said the sausage was well flavored albeit a little dry, but the bread and jam was outstanding. There were also multiple choices for bread and jam to meet anyone's standards. I had an orange juice which was great and he had an Irish coffee that my partner said was very good. I will note that it's important to ask for the adult drink menu for Irish coffee and other options like that. Our service was also really wonderful-- and that's saying a lot considering we only order from a window and wait to receive our food. We intend to be back while visiting to try their several homemade ice cream flavors, especially since they are 98% lactose free so I feel good about trying them!! I will absolutely write another review about the ice cream at a later time. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend this place based on our breakfast experience alone. read more

I'm making my through the greater Cincinnati and NKY trying all the soft serve places in the area. My dog would definitely give this place 5 stars and their doggy cup presentation was super cute! Unfortunately I thought their ice cream was just okay. It tastes less fattening and creamy than other soft serves I had in the area. It was less rich and the chocolate and vanilla flavors weren't as bold. I also really didn't enjoy my cookie dough crumbles on top either. This is not a bad spot, but compared to other places in the area their soft serve doesn't quite stack up to competition. read more

Great little place to grab some soft serve and people watch. Lots of options for flavors and toppings.

What I didn't know before arriving is that this place is a window for food, with some surrounding outdoor seating and a small indoor lounge upstairs. It's quaint, but it works. The lounge contains various rat-based iconography for some reason (perhaps this is the Pied Piper's Cafe?). The food is much what you'd expect from a diner, but vegetarian-friendly. The veggie burger I sampled had an excellent, bean-filled pattie. The fries I wasn't enamored with; the ultra-thin shoestring cut simply got cold too fast and the spicy seasoning was a little too sweet and not enough spicy for my taste. They had plenty of other side dish options. I also experimented with a hot cream-based beverage, and the creme de menthe flavor came through strongly. Their soft serve is offered in a variety of flavors as well, and they have plenty of breakfast options. It wasn't fancy, but the food was certainly worthwhile. read more

You know what really deserves a review update: PIPER'S. I've always loved the malts/ice cream here....but what really deserves credit... THE FOOD. The veggie burger (beans, onions, carrots, flax, oats, garlic, almonds, sunflower seeds) is AMAZING. I think this may be my favorite veggie burger in the area (and there's definitely some tough competition). Piper's also has lots of breakfast options (served all day) that are equally as delicious. Though, the best part about getting lunch/dinner is having the excuse of snagging a malt/shake/ice cream as well. You get to pick up to three flavors each time you order a soft serve/shake/malt... I've yet to have a bad combination. The store is requesting no cash transactions (only CC). The staff is super friendly, I'm always excited to have an excuse to come to Piper's. read more

Not a fan. Just artificially flavored soft serve. It's very novel and might be fun with kids. The stand is cute and the outdoor seating is in a cute area. But the flavor is "meh." Maybe we would Have liked the adult drinks but the manager wasn't there to serve and the kids working weren't allowed to serve drinks, so those weren't an option. Discovered this fun little walk up window last week. We came for ice cream and I'm a little torn about how to rate this place and think I'd give it a 3.5 for their sweet treats. They give you a bunch of flavors and whatever you chose, they mix it all together. I got the French vanilla, praline and salted Caramel. I got ice cream that ended up tasting like Coca Cola. (Yes, I may have discovered Coke's secret recipe!). It wasn't the flavor I was going for though so I felt disappointed. My fella on the other hand was wise and asked for a reco, and got a fantastic tasting peanut butter and cotton candy (I know, right?!). Still - a fun spot. Another local gem ! Had Friday lunch here , had the Hamelin Burger with jalapeño cheese and the rat tail fries. Ordered online and picked up . Food was great. They give you the option on how to cook your burger which for a fast foodish restaurant is a nice option. This isn't my first time here and won't be my last. I really hope he is not the owner or a manager... I have only been here a few times in the past, and my mother has never been. I was excited for her to try it. But the man working came off very impatient, disgruntled, and unfriendly. Not sure if he was just having a bad morning, but it doesn't matter regardless. This review is only for their breakfast menu. This is one of those places that I really wish I liked, because it's such a quaint little place with a lot of characters, but I'm sorry, I don't think I would be coming back anytime soon. If you are into homemade breakfast, maybe this is the place for you. I got the scrambler with goetta and for the side I chose biscuit with plum jam. The goetta scramble was decent and the breakfast potatoes underneath was fine. However, the biscuit was really weird. It was very dense, almost bread-like. Totally different than our normal expectation of a biscuit. The oregano in the "biscuit" added a nice flavor, I really wish the biscuit would be more buttery. The French toast was decent, just as expected. The biscuit and gravy - again, the biscuit was weird and was quite dense. The gravy is on the sweeter side and didn't match well with the biscuit. We did not finish this. Overall, I would like to see this restaurant succeed, so hopefully, when we come back next, I would be able to write a great review! read more

I got to say, this place is wonderful! Highly recommend! So many flavor options as well as toppings all blended together for a soft serve swirl. A nice outdoor area to sit out on on a nice sunny day. It was so good and I scarfed it down so quick that I forgot to take a picture but I got the fudge brownie, cake, batter, and cotton candy swirl topped off with cookie dough.
