The Mt Healthy Dairy Bar is the quintessential neighborhood midcentury inspired summer soft serve place. A small brick building with a walk up and a drive through window. While there is no inside area to enjoy your treats- there is a large area with picnic tables next to the building. There is also a public parking lot adjacent to it. I had a chocolate malt. When I order one I always ask for extra-malt, but feel like it is hardly ever a true "extra malt". This was definitely extra malt, it was one of the best soft serve chocolate malts I've had! I've been here a couple times. Yesterday a friend and I went. There's almost always a line, and I take that as a good sign!! Everything I've tried from here has been amazing! We left my local dairy bar because there was only drive through available and the line was long and not moving. This Dairy Bar in Mt Healthy is new to me but I'm glad I found it. There was service at the drive through and walk up window and it was quick and the workers were efficient and so kind. I got my typical glacier with vanilla ice cream and cherry slushy. Ice cream and I are a so-so pair. It's rare for me to crave/want ice cream. When I do, I usually go for something small, or a shake. This particular summer day, my wife, niece and i decided to stop at the Mt. Healthy Dairy Bar for a small treat. Now one thing I will say, is they have a decent variety of flavors, toppings and styles. In fact, it took us a few minutes or so, just to look over the menu. The friendly woman behind the counter asked us if we were ready to order. She also answered our questions concerning a few menu items, then we placed our orders. Our niece got a blue raspberry ice cream. My wife got something almost like a sundae and I had gotten a cherry shake. We were all happy with what we had received. I was especially pleased, because some places can't make a cherry shake with a good mix of cherries, not-too-sweet flavoring and ice cream. However, Mt. Healthy Dairy Bar really knows how to do it right. I encourage anyone to at least give this place a try. You will be glad you did. read more

Mt. Healthy Dairy Bar is one of the better ice cream places in the Cincinnati area. It's locally owned, making it better than the chains. The service is fast and friendly. It has a good assortment. The menu has ice cream and hot foods. It has all the ice cream basics. I had an orange slushie, which is one of several slushie flavors. These are about $1.50 for a regular size. It should be said this place is cash only. This wasn't a problem for me because I had a few dollars, but you should know this. I like places like this more than the corporate chains. It's nice not having to deal with a fake corporate atmosphere. There are plenty of independently owned ice cream stores in the area but there still need to be more. read more

I grew up frequenting this stand situated on the bustling Hamilton Avenue. The surrounding businesses aren't what one would call welcoming, but somehow it works. From its standard ice cream cones to flurries, shakes, blizzards and dip tops, there are more than enough options to satisfy even the most discerning ice cream connoisseur. The Dairy Bar even recently started making and selling a Blueberry/Blue Raspberry soft serve that is reminiscent of the famous Smurf ice cream from Kings Island. And, well, if you're not in the mood to pay a $40 entry to KI, the Dairy Bar is a fantastic alternative. While the ice cream selection may be expansive enough, there are also plenty of food items as well for a quick bite before indulging in a sweet treat finale. I typically opt for either a small chocolate/vanilla swirl cone with chocolate sprinkles or a chocolate milkshake made with chocolate/vanilla swirl ice cream. I ordered the foot long chili dog with mustard and onions. The dog featured Cincinnati style chili which was pretty standard, not great not bad, just okay. If you're looking for chili dogs I would suggest going to a Cincinnati favorite like Skyline. Soft-serve ice cream treats are the real focus of this roadside stand. They have a wide array of shakes, freezes, flurries and cones. The ice cream items remind me of similar Dairy Queen huts I used to go to as a kid. A little slice of Americana on Hamilton Avenue! No scenery to be had here, just the bustle of the busy street, a few tall trees, and grass patches with picnic tables. I have been going here since I was a little girl (back then I ordered a Snowman) and whenever I get a craving for soft serve this is all that I want. They offer some food, just the usual ice cream stand fair like coneys, nachos, and soft pretzels. None of that is very impressive. The ice cream treats and the soft serve is where it's at. My favorites are the Glacier, which is a slushy with soft serve piled high in the center and whipped cream or a PFC Sundae, which is pecans, fudge, and chocolate sauce. I also love the flavor burst ice creams, which are vanilla soft serve with an intensely flavored stripe on the sides or the monthly frozen yogurt flavor. They also offer lots of other frozen treats like milkshakes, flurries, slushies, and banana splits. They also have recently brought out a "Blue Ice Cream," which is a dupe for the King's Island's Smurf Ice Cream. A little additional info: they are CASH ONLY. Also, as far as I have seen they are pet friendly since it is a walk up stand. Along with being a walk-up stand they are only open seasonally. They usually open sometime in March or later and seem to close around September. There is a drive thru, but the lines can get long and don't go very fast. It is a pretty busy area of that street and it is also next to a funeral home, so if there is a service there can be more traffic in the parking lot, which is something to keep in mind if you are bringing rambunctious little ones. read more
