I had a cotton candy slushie. It's a flavor not many dairy bars have. This is about $2 for a medium. A lot of ice cream flavors are here. There are more than 50 flavors, with many of them common and some odd ones. It has a nice seating area. There's a few tables and a porch swing. A small walk-up stand with two order windows. Zip Dip has been a favorite of Westsiders for generations. A Westside institution really. After passing this stand on numberous occasions, we finally decided to give this stand a try. Topping and mix-in selection is plentiful at Zip Dip. Candy, cookies, sprinkles, nuts, dips and sauces are all available. Several flavors of Whirlybird granola are also now available. There are far more options in that department then flavors of soft serve. Chocolate and vanilla are standard, with two revolving specialty flavors. I prefer my soft serve without toppings. As such, a small flavor selection is a drawback for me. That being said, the chocolate soft serve is rich, creamy and smooth. One of the better chocolate soft serves I have tried. A strong chocolate flavor. Bench seating is available on either side of the building. Tables and a swing are available on the other side of the parking lot. Some of the tables are shaded. It's easy to pass by this tiny West Side establishment, but its pastel colors and neon border will grab your eye. Soon enough, you'll be pulling a U-turn into their parking lot. Zip Dip dishes out over 50 different kinds of soft serve, from your traditional flavors to the more eccentric. If you know me, I always opt for the eccentric. At Zip Dip, this would be the crème brûlée soft serve. Then I got really adventurous and went with a crème brûlée milkshake. It was incredible! I highly recommend giving it a try, if you're bored with the classic flavors. I can also recommend the regular chocolate shake, which is just the right combination of cream and liquidy to be a thirst quencher. Zip Dip's "small" shake starts at 16 oz., which is more than enough milkshake for me. Wearing your elastic pants? They serve milkshakes in 44oz cups. That's almost three pounds of beverage! I know there are a lot of places like this around Cincinnati and when it's hot and humid in the summer, this is my only answer to combat the impending misery (I am bad at summer weather here). Zip Dip and the pool, I guess, are my saving graces. Reasons to willingly go outside ;) There are teens that work here, but they are surprisingly good a managing lines and looking like they care. It's a good crew and really friendly to interact with. They use pen and paper to take orders (drawing boxes around them when complete) and hand calculations for transactions. A nice throwback to a time when cash registers and debit cards weren't required. On that note: cash only, be prepared. The area around Zip Dip includes tables, a swing, and angled retaining walls to rest your legs while you enjoy your sweet treats. My favorite order is the peanut butter frozen yogurt, a sundae with peanut butter sauce, or any cone combination that might sound interesting or tasty on a given day. I teach within walking distance of Zip Dip.... Each year there is a countdown in our office for when Zip Dip opens! That really is the first sign of spring! This is my favorite of all the creamy whip's in town! Go there if its been a particularly bad day at work, or its a Friday, or its sunny..... really any excuse.... Their blizzards are the best! Ask for an extra scoop of candy if you really want to kick it up a notch! I also like their low-cal soft serve options, flavors change regularly and are always posted on a sign out front. Add some fruit and don't feel too bad about the calories! Parking is always at a premium in their lot! I recommend parking on the side road itself. There is always plenty of seating especially since they added a whole mess of picnic tables a couple of years ago. There will ALWAYS be a line, but it moves fast. Ah, the Zip Dip Creamy Whip. Fun to say, right? This place has a ton of character. Great neon signage, a laid back West Side crowd, and a big selection of frozen goodies. The stars of the show are their weekly rotating flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt, as well as my favorite, the malts. The chocolate malts that I've had from Zip Dip are the best I've had in the city. Extra malty and rich. Overall, the ice cream here is good, but the portions are the smallest of any creamy whip on our summer quest. That's a bit discouraging, sine they are towards the high end of the creamy whip price range. As well, parking and seating is extremely tight here. On a busy night, parking down a residential street and taking your treats to go is a must. read more

I've been getting cones here since I was a wee lass, and trust me, that was many MANY years ago. Since then, I've tried soft serve all over the city, but this is always in the top 2. Unlike the other shop in my top 2, Putz', ZipDip features a machine packed with Orange Sherbet and Vanilla Ice Cream EVERY DAY. So on those hot hot summer days a creamsicle cone is never far away. The mix on the ice cream is always spot on, and the sundae toppings are excellent. I've only ordered the yogurt a few times, but it was pretty good for yogurt, and changes regularly. If you have your furry friends with you, ask for a puppy sundae: a swirl of vanilla softserve topped with a milk bone. read more

Putz's will always be my one and only creamy whip. But when I can't stand to make the trek down Montana Ave, I grab my ice cream fix from Zip Dip. I particularly like the variety of mix-in items for Blizzards (cyclones, flurries, whatever they call them). My favorite is Crunch Bars (I've never seen them anywhere else). I like their logo and the fact that they sell merchandise. Why doesn't Putz's do that? I also like their rewards program. You get a punch card and every time you make a purchase you get one punch. I liked Zip Dip, but I didn't necessarily love it. A lot of creamy whips tend to have very similar menu items and tastes, and Zip Dip resides somewhere in the middle, as there wasn't one specific thing about the experience that stood out. I got there, ordered my standard chocolate/vanilla zebra cone with chocolate sprinkles, and was on my way. After a long fun day at Miami Whitewater Forest I was craving a small snack and some Ice Cream. Google pulled this up, the reviews looked good, so we set out to find it. I ordered a mixed Ice Cream Cone (Chocolate and Vanilla) with a Cheeseburger. My mom who was with me and visiting from San Diego got a Chocolate Shake. The Ice Cream was delicious! I wasn't expecting much from my Hamburger just because it is an Ice Cream place but even that was down right yummy! I've actually been craving it now for a few days. So I can't wait to make another visit to the park and stop by here on the way home. They also have a little stamp rewards system too where so many visits gets you something half off I think or free.
