Stopped by here on the way to Cincinnati Shakespeare Company for a quick dessert. I grabbed a small bowl of half Italian Stallion and half Gooey Buttercake. My wife did half miso caramel and half espresso? Some coffee flavor. The Italian Stallion was made with ricotta cheese, which was what drew me to it, but honestly I didn't feel the ice cream itself had much unique flavor to it. The cherry pieces and chocolate waffle cone bits were decent. The Gooey Buttercake though, with cream cheese Gelato, was delicious. I can't say I was a fan of either flavor my wife chose--bitter, salty, umami flavors were interesting choices for dessert--but she seemed to enjoy them. read more

Who doesn't love a good frozen treat? For those of you who were question what the difference between us ce cream and gelato like I was.... Here's a little of what I learned. Gelato is served at a warmer temperature than ice cream, it's more dense since it churned slower and is made with most of the same ingredients as ice cream but different ratios. Dojo Gelato is on a corner and you will need to park on the street. Is a cute little place with a walk up window. I did not get to try the Yelp Event Freshman 15 since it's made with peanut butter ice cream but I did get a scoop of the cow apocalypse. It was absolutely scrumptious. Their patio area has lightweight aluminum chairs and striped table umbrellas surrounded by a sleek black iron fence. They touched it up with some beautiful flower box planters and other additional foliage. The staff is friendly and helpful when it comes to allergies and can provide suggestions on substitutions they have to offer. Hannah helped my brother come up with something that his son was able to have with all his allergies. She displayed confidence and assurance that put my brother at ease (as you can imagine as a parent and protecting your child from having any sort of allergic reaction). I ordered their "Dirty Hippie" signature sundae (Vanilla gelato, blueberry granola, wildflower honey, whipped cream, candied ginger). I had to make some alterations due to allergen issues so I cannot speak to the authentic version of the sundae, but I can say that the Coconut Vanilla Gelato that I subbed it with was FANTASTIC!!! They have a unique variety of signature sundaes, plenty of toppings and beverage items as well! This is such a fun Gelato shop. It has made excellent use of an odd space in a little corner of Northside. I love it when a business isn't afraid to get wild with their flavors and Dojo Gelato is no exception. At my most recent visit i tried several of their flavors. I sampled their: Strawberry Jalopeno - heavy on the strawberry and extremely mild on the pepper flavor. it has a light tingly aftertaste that is very enjoyable Gooey Butter Cake - somehow the butter cake pieces are still soft and goeey when you bite in--its drool worthy and my absolute favorite flavor there Blueberry Port - Super yummy. Unfortunately this flavor is wrapping up for the season so i advise you go ASAP to try it! Mango - Super light and creamy, very refreshing and summery They were all absolutely delicious And dont skimp on buying the waffle cone. They make them fresh in house and its on point! read more

Dojo Gelato has a newer location. It opened up a free standing shop in Northside. While the location isn't as happening as the Findlay Market one, it still has the great gelatos and sorbettos. It also has a nice patio area. The menu features a few different flavors than the first location. Here it has more room, allowing them to have a larger menu which makes it even harder to choose. It has many gelatos, all made fresh. They also always have several sorbettos, which are vegan. It has a nice seating area. The neighborhood is much quieter than the location in the Findlay Market. I had the double scoop of hot chocolate and strawberry sorbettos. It's about $5 for a bowl, but considering how large the scoop size is and the quality, this is fine. The service is pretty friendly here too. It has many tables in the seating area. Some of these don't have an umbrella, so that's a problem if it's hot or it's raining. The funny comments on the easel are must see if you go there. read more

Stumbled across this cute little desert place on my way out of Northside and couldn't help but stopping by. The glow and bright colors of the corner space are sure to draw anyone in. There is a generous parking lot just across the street dedicated for customers. It was hard to decide what to get, as everything looked so good! Dojo Gelato is probably one of the cutest gelato shops in Cincinnati! I knew the moment I heard about the vegan options I knew it was for me. Even though I'm not vegan, having any option that is lactose free is amazing. I decided on getting a Pellegrino mixed with a mango ginger sorbet. It definitely was delicious, I wish I would have gotten a regular cone, just to have a good baseline. The lines can get a little crazy, and it can take a little bit of time to make some of the of the specialty items, but a cone or a dish would take less time. You get a ton of gelato for a very reasonable price. The outdoor seating area is large, is very well kept. I chose to walk around a little bit and see more of the neighborhood. This is a great addition to Northside, and a great way to end the night. read more

I tried the honky dore. I never get chocolate and wanted to try something different. I liked the dutch chocolate. It was rich but not overwhelming. The Spanish peanuts were a nice touch though I would prefer them chopped. I definitely would request a healthier serving of whip cream next time. I don't care for soaked cherries of any kind, but this one seemed fancy and I thought there was a chance. This place isn't on the Main Street of Hamilton so you'll get to explore a book you might not have gone to before! While I can't say I was super into any of their scoopable gelato, I really enjoyed their blueberry soft serve! It was uber creamy and not over sweet. They always offer vanilla soft serve, this blueberry was seasonal and might not be available when you visit. I recommend topping whatever you get with some of their house-made hot fudge or caramel. This place is gonna be SERIOUSLY busy once the warmer weather hits!! My wife and I stopped by after dinner in Northside. Yeh, it was a bit chilly, but WHOA! This Gelato is Tremendous! Seriously! Graeter's had always been my first choice for ice cream, but, sorry guys, you just got bumped! We tried several different flavors, Hazelnut, Dutch chocolate, but the Rowdy Girl scout Killed it !! Belgian Chocolate gelato, thin mint girl scout cookies, black cocoa, Tart vanilla brown ale, and some kind of GREATNESS!! HA!! Yes! Good stuff! I had a single scoop of Hazelnut and a scoop of the aforementioned food of the gods! (Rowdy girl scout. Kind of getting the hint I think it was pretty good, huh?) And, they give you these tiny little spoons, the kind you sample with.....which is actually a great idea. If they gave you normal size spoons, I would've scarfed it down and not enjoyed it as much by having to eat it slower! Definitely going to be one of those places we bring friends when they visit Cincy! Sidenote: Dojo Gelato, get a few of those gas heaters for your tables. I've driven past Dojo Gelato in Northside numerous times on the way to and from work. I'd been anxiously awaiting their opening...then they opened, and it still took me forever + a day to finally make it over there. I've tried their food truck offerings before, and I was so happy to give them another try cuz' they were super tasty. My husband had a scoop of the special that day that I think featured Oreos and peanut butter, and I had the Elm & Elder Sundae. OMFG, this has all the things I love: sea salt caramel gelato, strawberry compote, marcona almonds, whipped cream, and amarena cherry. OK, I don't actually love almonds, but I decided to leave them on this sundae, and I didn't regret it. read more

Finally made it here! Their soft serve flavors this week included Cap'n Crunch so it was pretty much perfect timing on my part. All the gelato flavors looked wonderful as well (as always). The location is very walkable for most of Northside, plenty of street parking nearby and tons of places to lock up a bike. The patio is nicely fenced in with little tables and big umbrellas. They also pipe in music to the patio so it feels a little like an oasis from the hustle and bustle on the street on a hot day. read more

After visiting the Dojo location at Findlay casually over the past few years, I'm excited to see them branch out into a full-size location, especially in Northside, one of the most interesting and booming neighborhoods in the city. I had the mixed peaches and cream soft serve gelato add sprinkles which was really good. They have a variety of mixes and toppings too. The Freshman 15 -- peanut butter gelato with Oreo pieces is on my list for next time. The affogato sounds super nice too... I wonder if there's an iced version for summer? Overall the price is a little higher than the same portion size of soft serve at a place like Putz's or Norwood Delite but it's still reasonably priced and gelato tastes better. One thing they could improve is to make how much gelato each size is clearer before you order (pictures of what a full cup at each size looks like would help). Decided to try this place because they have vegan options. I got the Affagoto which has two scoops of gelato and expresso poured over it. I got the chocolate orange sorbet as my gelato. I must say it's pretty good but I'm not sure if I like the texture of it. I've had other vegan gelatos that had a much smoother texture. We finally made it to this adorable outside gelato venue. It has been open for a few months now. The outside patio is themed in orange along with their signature turquoise & lime green. A permanent residence in Northside is so exciting. This summer is gonna rule! They have a rotation of gelato soft serve that you can get swirled. I order a small swirl (could definitely have handled the large though!) My flavors were Amaretto Cherry and Cream flavor. The Cherry was soooo dang good. Definitely recommend. Cost: $3.25 My friend ordered the Vietnamese Coffee Shake. I'm not much of coffee drinker, so no dice for me! Here is her take: The coffee flavor wasn't too over powering, which she liked. After seeing this place on Yelp my husband and I were super eager to try it. The guy working was hesitant to let us sample the gelato which was disappointing. I really wanted to try more than one flavor. I got a large sweet cream soft serve which was pretty good but awfully small. It was only two swirls above the cone. They also didn't have waffle cones which was sad (even though they had the waffle cone maker there). My husband got a swirl cone but when they first tried to put ice cream in it just liquid was coming out. They finally got the gelato to come out but his cone was super soggy. Pretty disappointed in this place. Also thought it was kinda pricy for the small size. Won't be returning here. read more

Last night I visited this fun gelato establishment that recently opened in Northside. I had seen their food truck often at public events all over the city. It is conveniently located at the intersection of Colerain and Blue Rock. Street parking is available on Blue Rock. The store has a spacious outdoor patio surrounded by an attractive metal fence. The menu is posted on the front side of the building where there are two order windows and on a large board visible on the patio. There were 2 employees available to assist customers when I was there. The young woman who helped us was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was great at telling us about the many flavors of gelato and soft serve and the toppings and sundaes sold here and making suggestions. The flavors vary a little bit from time to time. We were able to sample several delicious flavors that helped us decide what to order. I was surprised to learn that they make their own chocolate fudge sauce. I had to try this. My daughter and I ordered both gelato and soft serve. We had sampled the blueberry soft serve and found it to be very creamy with a gelato texture and a tasty blueberry flavor. The soft serve comes in small, medium and large. We got a small with a Carmel sauce and sprinkles. It was so good. The toffee gelato with chocolate fudge sauce was also delicious. There was so much Carmel sauce on the soft serve that we poured what was left onto the gelato. The price for the soft serve, gelato and the sundaes is compareable to Grarter's ice cream.
