This place is hopping for lunch and I believe they will take reservations for a group. The bakery section is huge, but we went to enjoy lunch. I opted for a cup of soup, 1/2 sandwich for about 12$. Potato chips and a pickle are included. The chili chicken soup was hearty and tasty. There was a choice of creamy chicken broccoli and pasta figoli. I got the chicken salad sandwich on grain bread. Very good but I hear their curry chicken salad is better. When you go in, go directly to the cashier to order and pay. Then you will receive your good. Bluebird is truly a hidden gem. First of all, it's located on the cutest Village Square that is off the beaten path, but definitely worth a visit in Glendale. There's plenty of free parking and the gardens are always impeccably maintained. Go on a nice day so you can sit outside on their patio seats with umbrellas. That alone is a treat in itself! I've had Bluebird pastries before, and their scones are some of the best in the city, especially their cream cheese filled scone and their fruit filled scones. Today I was visiting for lunch and I was wary of their small menu because I am dairy free and I wasn't sure if there were many options for me. I called the shop and spoke to Kelly, one of the owners, who was able to give me a detailed rundown of the menu and explain that they would make several accommodations and there would be several options for me! She explained that they are happy to make accommodations and love when people ask. I ordered the soup sandwich combo, and enjoyed the turkey sandwich and watermelon gazpacho. The combo was a good size served with pickles and chips, and I was very satisfied. The watermelon gazpacho was especially delicious and a unique dish that I would recommend for summertime. While waiting for my hubby, I stopped by the Cafe. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. I made my self comfortable then ordered a coffee and one of their famous pecan sticky buns. While enjoying my treat I enjoyed the banter between the employees. It felt like I was invited into a friend's kitchen. I was there long enough to grab an Egg Salad sandwich and some PB cookies. Stopped in for a little mid work day treat and got a slice of asparagus quiche and a cup of mushroom and barley soup. The quiche was okay-- made well, but not my favorite flavor. The soup, however, was some of the best I have ever had. My only regret is that I didn't buy the entire pot of it! They don't have it all the time since their soups rotate, but I bet the others are great if they are even half as good as the mushroom one! read more

Scones! I've had the dry, pasty ones from a grocery store and therefore I was never a big fan. But I found the Bluebird bakery and saw that they sells scones and I thought I'd give it a try. Those dry, flavorless things in the grocery have NOTHING in common with these delightful pastries. They are light and wonderfully tasty. The bakery is situated in a cute Glendale neighborhood. I ordered a curried chicken salad sandwich to-go and it was delicious (loved the raisins and apples in it). We came here while staying for the weekend near the convention center. It is nestled in a little quaint downtown area of Glendale. It was a sunny day in January and walking around was a great experience. The bluebird is a real, legit bakery making scones, pies, bars, cookies, buckeyes and other real fun treats. I came here with my BFF for breakfast while I got tires on my car. This is a small kind of out of the way place that you can't even see from the main road. It is kind of town square from years gone by. You walk in and they have several tables and the counter is full of yummy options. We both got quiche and coffee and I also go a scone. The quiche is warmed up in a microwave so I would almost knock a star off, but I thought, they can't make everything fresh on the spot, this is a small bakery and it isn't like they have hundreds of people walking or driving by everyday. This is the hangout for friends and daycare moms. Service was very nice and the food was super yummy. Mixed review on this bakery as I have only stopped in once to buy a pie. Service was mediocre- 3 high school kids more interested in each other than the customer. I ordered a pie and the kid I ordered it from had another kid stop what he was doing to box it. Then the first guy went to the register to wait for us to get there. I'm sure it would've been a different scenario if the owner was there. The pies are small (8" I'm guessing) and it was $30. For one small pie. My family loved it (triple berry) so what can you say? Except that I won't be back for pie. Even though it's a really good pie, no pie is worth that much for me. Bluebird Bakery is a lovely establishment in a very quaint small town. We enjoyed the coffee and bakery including iced cookies, mound bar and coconut cream pie. All were very good. The gentleman at the counter were extremely friendly and quick with helping us out. The only negative we experienced was being embarrassed by the owner (assume he is the owner). We were going to take things to go, but then Grandpa wanted to try his pie right away so he sat down at a table. (There were several other open tables available as well). The owner immediately reprimanded the staff about wasting the containers on us and even was telling him to remove it from the container and put it on a plate. Needless to say, we left and won't be back. While I can understand not wanting to be wasteful of to go containers, I didn't feel this was something that he necessarily needed to embarrass anyone for. read more

The food is good but the setting is perfection. I ordered a coffee and some sweet something and was in my car, ready to go when I looked around and thought "What am I doing?". The area was so beautiful and the day was so sublimely gorgeous that eating this meal in the car was just stupid. So I wandered back and found a table on the generous sidewalk and slowly enjoyed my meal and listened to the babbling fountain and soaked in the conversation. Friends greeted one another warmly and there was a fair amount of discussion about an upcoming wedding. I lingered longer, made faces at a sweet, pudgy faced boy and finished my meal. I went inside and saw patrons eating the bakery's version of an Egg McMuffin. I immediately wished I'd ordered that, somehow I'd missed it on their menu. What I had not missed was the posting that offered refills cheap. I sheepishly asked if I'd read the posting right and the cashier perkily responded in the affirmative. The manager then told her to just give it to me free. Two passable if not amazing coffees, a sweet baked good and a morning's worth of delightful conversation in an environment filled with flowers and warm sunshine. All of that for about $4. We started our first visit at Bluebird Bakery with a meeting. I had hot tea and my husband ordered a coffee. He chose one of our favorite roasts, Highlander Grogg and he liked it a lot. My hot tea was just what I expected, but they had a good selection. The atmosphere was nice with mismatched tables, and they took a lot of care to prepare for little ones, with toys and a stool in the restroom. It's the little details that seem to impress me the most. The staff was friendly. I didn't feel rushed and she (sorry I forget her name) answered all my questions patiently, and I had a lot of questions about their baked goods and menu selections. We ordered breakfast to go with a dozen cookies. We ordered bacon, egg and cheese on a croissant for the entire family. My cookie selections included chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal/raisin and sugar cookies. The sandwiches were amazingly delicious. There was quite a wait for them, but I suspect it's because the sandwiches are freshly made and it was evident in the quality of the sandwich. In fact, the cost is about the same price as fast food chains, but the quality is much better. So, if your in a hurry, you may want to call in your order ahead of time. Now the cookies were not my favorite, which is disappointing since they are a bakery. They weren't bad, but they didn't exceed my expectations, which is why I gave 4 stars. Absolutely amazing place. They have desserts that make my mouth water when I drive past the place. And don't even get me started on the SOUPS. Despite being a bakery they have soups that would rival anything Gordon Ramsay makes. The staff is so helpful and kind it feels like I'm at my grandmothers house. However if I'm going to be completely honest. I would not try the sandwich's. The sandwich's are so good I can't stop eating them. Wow! Bluebird finally upped its soup game. I've been coming here for years because it's close to my home. The food is just ok and the soups were hit or miss, mostly miss. Well, I heard they hired a new chef and she is making some absolutely delicious soups! I've had two soups so far and could not believe how good they were. Also the tuna salad tasted way better than usual. Keep up the good work, Bluebird! I have never recommended this place before, but I'm recommending it now! So I don't eat a lot of fruit pies. But, the triple berry pie was really good. I didn't warm it or anything. The berries had the right amount of sweet and tang and the crust was just flaky enough and perfect. I enjoyed the lemon bar, coffee and staff as well. read more
