We so enjoyed our afternoon tea before our show Downtown. This was our second experience in the Tea Cafe and it was delicious. The staff was an amazing at ensuring our allergen needs were addressed. If you order hot tea you receive your own pot with loose tea of your preferred flavor. My favorite items have to be the sugared scone and the ham & Swiss biscuit. We also were seated within the Cafe this time, which I'm sure is due to me reserving our spot around Christmas. It's just the cutest place with its vintage tea cups and saucers. Came for afternoon tea with friends and it was a cute, fun experience. Homey and nostalgic feels inside. Reservations are highly recommended for this. We each selected a tea and then we were served a slice of quiche and a 3 tier platter of various sandwiches and treats. The quiche was not hot at all, but delicious. Service was just okay. Their high prices are warranted and we've never been disappointed. They are always busy, but take a number and the line moves quickly. Staff is always friendly and ready to answer questions. A small parking lot, but there's a public lot across the street. While I miss the days of their original tea room, the current one is fine. Nothing to write home about. I've been to The BonBonerie before and was very impressed. Just went there for a bridal shower for a dear friend of mine. They really know how to make food that is delicious and looks beautiful. Loved the tea too! I'm partial to herbal or decaffeinated teas - they served an amazing strawberry one followed by a blueberry one. Colors and flavor were remarkable. Since it was the day after Valentine's Day, the decorations were still up including a photo backdrop perfect for the occasion. You need to take the time to look at examples of what they create. This has been on my want-to-try list for a while so I was excited when a friend booked a birthday reservation for afternoon tea. They tried to squeeze our group of 8 into a small picnic table and eventually had to add two chairs. Service was a bit slow but it was crowded and we each placed our tea order (only one small pot per person included unlike most other formal teas I've been to that offer unlimited tastings) and two of us requested no meat/vegetarian accompaniments. First came a round a spinach quiche slices, then the full tiers of pastries, finger sandwiches, and desserts (2 tiers for the table). Everything was tasty and we enjoyed trying the various flavors, though we could have used a written menu because they were rattled off quickly. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there. No offers of fresh hot water to resteep. Our server brought extra of the veggie sandwiches over without prompting. When we got the checks, they were added to the bills along with required large group gratuity. When questioned, the manager insisted that our request wasn't early enough and the website spelled out the policy which we should have read in advance. Despite my explaining we hadn't made the reservation (or had any reason to check the website before walking in) and explaining that the server should have clarified if we wanted to purchase extra sandwiches considering there was only 1 meat item served family style, she loudly continued to state that I should have read the website before ordering and didn't offer any concession. I've ordered a carrot cake 2 years in a row which has always been great, and finally had the chance to enjoy high tea! The assortment of food was delicious - from the baked goods and cookies to the savory options. For each item, they provided the exact number per guest, which made sharing seamless, but we easily could have eaten more of the finger sandwiches and quiche! :) They had a nice selection of all different types of tea, there were 3 of us in the group and we were each able to order 2 tea pots during our visit. I wish the ambiance and decor was more charming and uniform. The waiting hall was not very inviting and could be spruced up since it seems common for guests to wait before their table is ready. There is only 1 spot to wait where you feel like you are not in the way of everyone else walking through the hallway and even then, it still feels tight. The tearoom itself had some funky art but I think this vibe could be played up more to stand out as not just another "English tea decor" spot. The tea cups and saucers were mismatched, but would have been more fun if they were matching orrr more purposefully mismatched (versus feeling like the cups and saucers were just randomly placed together). This is an edited review! This was once a favorite place of mine, until today when I was harassed by a worker. I was at lunch here with my mother when a male worker walked past us on his way to smoke a cigarette outside. He stood very close to us and asked three or more times, "Where's daddy at?" We gave no response or even eye contact and he did not seem to understand how inappropriate that was and just was laughing. It's especially humiliating to have my mother experience this behavior. Bon Bonerie is the gold standard when it comes to bakeries. I have been eating treats from here my whole life and have yet to ever be disappointed! I was recently on a scone kick and wanted to swing in there because I knew if anyone was going to make a good scone, it would be Bon Bonerie. They are well known for their Opera cake, but I'm not a huge chocolate person so I've always steered more towards their other offerings. On this visit I went with my sister and my 2 year old niece and I was so pleased with how sweet and kind and patient the folks there were with her. If you like chocolate, a go to for me is usually a slice of the opera cream torte, and a few other treats like the peanut butter bar and other seasonal treats. I've also bought a few cakes for birthdays. They are expensive for the small size but are delicious. We took my 95 year old grandma for her birthday and it was the perfect lunch spot. Our server was so patient and accommodating and made her feel so special. And I hear they can sell out fast so even though it was just barely lunchtime, we loaded up! Very friendly staff and overall just great desserts. I would definitely recommend the cupcakes! Next we made our way over to the café for lunch. It is very homey and sweet and just a great environment. You could choose to just have tea and snacks and they call it a High Tea. Or you could just order some of their many good sandwiches and also enjoy a cup of tea. Basically the tea is there so enjoy it! I had the grilled cheese and a cup of the tortilla soup for lunch and it was delicious! Very well done and very professional. Also came with chips on my plate. I would have probably had a salad instead of the chips but I did not know at the time that was possible. Great place for lunch! I was expecting an out of the ordinary tea, but it tasted like something I could've found on a shelf in my local grocery store. Same goes for the finger sandwiches. Nothing 'wowed' me. And, quality-wise, it was overpriced by about twenty dollars. Our waitress was hard to hear in the sea of talking b/c of the loaded room. (I understand the effort to cram them in with those prices!) She didn't look at any of us as we ordered. Maybe she was distracted by a particularly distasteful picture on the wall. I only stopped in for some bakery treats to grab-and-go, but I was incredibly impressed. The smell of the bakery was fantastic, and all the baked goods could be seen coming out fresh. They had larger options like cakes and cheesecakes, which could be ordered ahead with customization, as well as small individual items ready to take home. We got the Molasses Cookie, Iced Ginger Leaf, and Apple Orchard Bar. I can honestly say these were the truest seasonal flavors I've ever had. Bonbonerie is one of my happy places in Cincinnati! They have the most wonderful pastries, the cutest seasonal cookies, wonderful tea, and nice lunch. I've celebrated my birthday now 2 times here, and the service has always been wonderful. They have a great collection of cakes by the slice or whole as well as a ton of other treats. This review is for the Bonbonerie Cafe, not the bakery, although I love the bakery too. This is one of my favorite spots for lunch with a friend (or a few). The food is always prepared fresh and I have never been disappointed. This week, the latte was as fabulous looking as it was tasting. The only thing that was a little challenging on this visit is that it took a while for our server to get to us and return with my latte. We arrived at the peak of lunch time and it was super busy, so 100% understandable. All the staff was simply delightful overall. Tip: Sit in one of the dining rooms. It's must more upbeat and a better chance your server will keep you top of mind. We sat in the breezeway and it was quite busy as people use that to go to and from the bakery and cafe. It's also a bit more quiet so if you want to have a private conversation, it can be hard since there is a second table there. read more

This is going to be an unpopular opinion in the City of Cincinnati, but I really am not a fan of Bonbonerie. I've had it a few times from Jungle Jim's and it's always been on my list to get to the actual bakery. I've tried the Opera Cream cake a few times. The times I've gotten it from Jungle Jim's, it's not that great and is usually dry. The cupcake versions are better than the cake versions. One thing that really makes them lose points for me is that they are not a traditional bakery in the sense that I can call in and order a cake for a bday party or anything else (unless it's one of THREE types of cakes they have for the month). I attempted to call in a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing (or some similar combo) and was told that they only allow you to order cakes that are listed on the website, which is alway a rotation of 3 cakes (which actually ends up being 2 cakes because Opera Cream seems to always be one of the three). So given that you can't order a cake unless it's one of the ones they always have made makes them lose about 2 stars for me. They state that the reason they have this ordering system is because they make all their cakes from scratch. Which when I was on the phone with the employee, I was like "oh wow ok...." but as soon as I hung up, I thought to myself "doesn't every bakery??" On top of that, I ordered a few treats to go from here and they were just okay. Again, the opera cream cupcake is the route to go if you wanna test something out. But honestly, even your local grocery store bakery has better treats than this place. All told, I don't think I'd come back again unless someone else wanted me to go with them. Just not a fan. Pro tip-- make sure you park in the back parking lot. It's pretty confusing if you park street parking out front. Even though they have numerous signs pointing you in the direction of the bakery (which is a separate building), I still had to ask for help. read more

This is a review for the dine-in cafe - the takeaway bakery is excellent and well run. We came for brunch on a Friday and the service was abysmal. We were told to sit wherever, then moved because the table we chose was reserved. Menus were brought, then no one came to talk to us for ten minutes. We had to walk up to the coffee counter to ask for help. Finally a server not in our section took our order and our food came out. We tried ordering a scone with that same server - after twenty minutes of being seated, our original server approached us to say they were out of certain scones so we ordered the cranberry almond. She returns again to say that it's not available either, so we nixed the order. We waited another twenty minutes to pay the bill but we were charged for 3 scones, and only had 2. When we brought it up with our hardly-present server, she immediately got defensive and blamed her manager. We then went upstairs to the bakery and they had plenty of every flavor scone so not sure why they couldn't serve the same flavors in the connected cafe. While we were being ignored, we noticed 1 nearby table having to be moved, 1 table never receiving any refills of coffee, and 1 table who wasn't acknowledged for quite some time, like us. read more
