Might have had one of the rudest service experiences in a long time. The woman that served us was incredibly rude. We waited 5 minutes to order, after she gave us the death stare multiple times. We had no idea where to order or what to do since we were not even greeted or welcomed. I could tell she was annoyed with us She seemed very inconvenienced when we had to ask where the cream was since this was our first time. Again, incredibly rude. We noticed people around us got their pastries served on plates/baskets and ours was boxed up. Never once were we asked if we were eating in or doing to go. Was lucky enough to taste North South's Baking's delicious blueberry crumble pie at a Yelp event and we earmarked it as our Christmas dinner dessert. Came here for the second time today -- was super excited after finishing a night shift and wanted to treat myself. Honestly, kind of disappointed. The pastries were okay at best. The strawberries & cream cruffin was way too sweet, and the onion cheese pastry was just meh. But the real letdown was the guy working the counter. His attitude was terrible -- he looked miserable and acted like he didn't want to be there at all. I almost asked him, "Who hurt you?" because wow. We went to North South around 8 am on a weekday and were instantly greeted by the pleasant aroma of freshly baked goods. I was looking forward to trying the breakfast sandwiches but they would not be ready for another hour, so we settled for sweet baked goods. The coffee glazed cinnamon roll was soft, warm, and decadent without being overly sweet. The beery danish was also very good with balanced flavors and a very nice croissant texture of the bread. I'd been searching for donuts in the Covington area to give out as work treats, and found a nearby place in Newport. It was not what I was hoping for, so I luckily broadened my search to pastries and lucked upon North South. It is in the same building as a pizza shop, so easy to miss. There was an assortment of croissants, sticky buns, cinnamon rolls, and other treats that looked good. Fabulous place to stop for pastries plus there is room to dine in! You can enter the business from either the street in front or behind it. There's metered street parking which is convenient on a weekend when it's not too challenging to find a spot. It was quiet when we were there and all tables were available. I had a breakfast sandwich that was absolutely delicious - with tons of cheese, surprisingly fluffy eggs and bacon. I took it back to the office and as suggested - nuked it in the microwave for 90 seconds to warm it up. My family visited North South Baking on Saturday and I'm still thinking of my delicious croissant! I had the pistachio croissant and it was perfectly flaky and it was a delicious sweet treat, a reminiscent of baklava but with more focus on the croissant and frosting. My husband had the chocolate croissant, which was also delicious. Our four year old had a frosted gingerbread cookie and devoured it. Our family had a chocolate chunk cookie to share; while the flavor was awesome, it was a little crunchier than we prefer for that kind of cookie (if you like a crunchy chocolate chip, this would be perfect for you!). We also grabbed a loaf of brioche for us to add to meals throughout the week and it made delicious breakfast sandwiches and garlic bread. The staff was friendly and the line moved quickly. During the week, I placed an order to pick up (so easy) and then just walked right in and everything was there and ready to go. These baked goods are HUGE and SO delicious. I tried the cruffins, coconut Bakewell tarts, almond croissants and lemon meringue pies. There was not a bad bite in the bunch. The balance of salty and sweet was perfection. Rose and Mary Bakery was one of the finest bakeries I have ever been to, and I miss them terribly, but.......the new occupants of this same space - North South Baking - is a wonderful and near equal replacement. In some ways, they might even be better. Thanks to Yelp this is going to be our go to place for baked goodies! Loved the place, the vibe is pretty cool, colorful, clean and different. The staff was very nice and friendly. It was a little packed at the time so everything went pretty fast but I'm looking forward to coming back even though I haven't finished everything I bought from them two days ago... It was that good. My wife went crazy with the Pistachios Rose Croissant, to the point that she offered me a bite but by the time I asked for it, it was all gone. The Cruffins (if im typing it correctly) ... Holy Cr.. Thats where they got me, the Boston cream one! even the plain one! It was soft but with a bite, airy but not empty, perfect amount of filling and texture... just amazing. I also bought a loaf of Brioche and made French toast with it... Perfect for it. It's located in a great spot in front of Braxton brewery, and on the same block as Agave and Rye. The local seems to be divided between them and Bircus brewing company which have wood fire pizzas...
