Definitely a cozy restaurant. The staff here were amazing. The wait time despite being crowded and having no reservation was super swift. The food was also tasty. I enjoyed the casserole and gouetta which I'm probably spelling so wrong. The mimosa was literally made with a slash of the flavoring so be careful when consuming. If I didn't have a 7+ hour drive back i would have ordered more drinks during the meal . I really like the cinnamon roll which was gooey, semi sweet, sticky, buttery, and savory. We had made reservations for 8:00. When we walked in, there were a couple people still waiting for their seat at the bar. It was very crowded and not much room to wait around. I felt cramped and thought oh gosh this food better be worth it. It was!! We sat at the bar, i didn't feel like i was sitting on top of the person beside me. There was enough counter space and the bartender was great. He made awesome recommendations. We started off with the cornbread (it was a little too done for me around the edges but the middle was great ) the brussel sprouts were AWESOME. I got the short ribs and they were just amazing. I was brought here for a Valentine's Day surprise, and I was definitely in for a treat. I love Mama's on Main so my boyfriend was looking for a restaurant similar to that in lo and behold Otto's is a part of that same family. The food is delicious and has a similar taste palette to mama's. I think the biggest thing here is that there's just a difference in menu select selection. Here they had brussels sprouts and short ribs, which were both delicious. I had a mushroom soup that was so good. The staff was very personable here, and I loved dining with them. Our first visit here after hearing many recommendations from friends. We had a party of 4 on Saturday at 5:30. Nice vibe. We started with fried green tomatoes and burrata. Both were fantastic. Then I had a bowl of tomato dill soup that was the BEST bowl of tomato soup I have EVER had. Then the short ribs with some mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans. Incredibly tender beef that you could easily cut with a fork.. Delish. My best friend had the pistachio crusted halibut and said it was even better than he was expecting. That will probably be my choice at our next visit. Finally dessert--something like bread pudding with ice cream that was the bomb. This was the best meal I've had in a year,. Went for my wife's birthday. We had never been there before. She found it while looking for a special place. Otto's has been there for 20 years. It was fantastic! Food and Service were Great! The only negative if you can call it that is a small changing menu. We were very happy with the options. We had fried green tomatoes and flat bread pizza. My wife and son had the Watermelon gazpacho soup while I had the Salad. Both very good. I had the filet cooked perfectly medium with asparagus and finger potatoes. My wife had the scallops and son had the short ribs. No complaints from any of all. Sauces were correctly paired with each. Finished off meal with birthday cheesecake. Quaint, small restaurant in what appears to be an old home. Don't let it's size dissuade you, this place is a gem! The menu is limited, but what they serve is absolutely fantastic. Beautiful art lines the wall and the bar is enshrined with historic decanters. One shelf holds a group of British Kings' Guard soldiers stoically standing watch over patrons sipping their cocktails at the bar. I had the soup of the day which was watermelon gazpacho, a flavor of gazpacho that I had never had. It was amazing: sweet, cold and with a bit of a kick. Lovely starter for a hot evening in Covington. Our table also had the infamous fried green tomatoes- which were phenomenal and the flatbread with "BRIE, FIGS, SHAVED COUNTRY HAM, MICRO GREENS, LOCAL HONEY" I ordered the scallop entree which came with roasted asparagus and shitake mushroom risotto. That night the menu featured just two desserts: pecan bread pudding and cherry cheesecake. Had the latter, which was nice, but nothing exceptional. We sat outside, which was perfect on main street in Covington, watching all the people and cars pass by. We ordered the cornbread and fried green tomatoes as starters. Holy cow were they amazing! The cornbread was warm and soft, with an amazing rosemary butter that melted in your mouth. The fried green tomatoes were thick with a crunchy and flavorful batter. They also had a really good dressing to go with it, and I honestly have no Idea what it was except that it was delicious! For my main I ordered the scallops with the mushroom risotto. The scallops were big and cooked perfectly, they melted in my mouth once again. The risotto was delicious and creamy. It was a great meal and very fun experience! read more

I can't believe I've never been here until now. Tucked away in Covington, this hidden gem has delicious food and atmosphere. We sat outside as it was a gorgeous night. Everything on the menu sounded amazing so I had a hard time choosing but went with the scallops. I have to saw my plate was licked clean. Every bite of the scallop was tender and melted in your mouth. The risotto was unlike any risotto I've had. I wish I had more because every single bit I tried to savor and have it last. I've had many mushroom risottos but this had asparagus and the creaminess was perfection. The smoked tomato aioli added so much flavor to the scallops and risotto. I could have rated another one of these dishes because it was such an experience. However, I left room for dessert. They were not joking when they said a generous portion of carrot cake. This 3-tier cake was exactly what I needed to end the night. Rich and creamy and moist in every bite. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. We got served drinks and our orders taken right away. If you sit outside you're right next to a busy street so it can get loud but is a bit more spacious than inside. We have been to Otto"s many times over the past 20 years to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. We consider Otto's the best restaurant in Cincinnati. There are many good restaurants in this area, but Otto's works best for us. It is like one of those cute, unpretentious little restaurants in Atlanta, New Orleans, Charleston, etc., that is a hidden gem that serves WONDERFUL food, and has WONDERFUL service. We found Otto's shortly after moving to Cincinnati from Connecticut. For so many restaurants, over time they change because of new ownership, new management, changes in the kitchen, or a host of other reasons, and never for the better. I am happy to say that Otto's is just the same as we found it many years ago. Not many restaurants fall into that category. My wife is handicapped and I called to ask about how she could get up the two steps at the entrance. I was promptly told that the waitresses would help us. We were the first people to arrive at 11:25am (to beat the crowd). Karley, our waitress was the first person we met at the front door and along with the hostess they helped get Annie up the steps and to our table. All the ladies were wonderful, and the Chef, your food is truly amazing . As I looked around the restaurant I saw so many wonderful plates being delivered. One last thing. I no longer drink alcohol, but over the years I have had so many terrific, 4 Roses Manhattans (up) here, and if you like Manhattans. We had THE BEST dinner at Otto's last night. It was our first time there and it won't be the last. We sat in the back under the "two peas in a pod" painting the chef's wife made for him. (Their story is on the back of the menu.) Not gonna lie: I got a little (okay a lot) verklempt. Otto's is a friend's favorite from when she was living in the neighborhood. We visited this summer while seeing a new baseball stadium and stopped here for brunch before catching our flight. We didn't have reservations, but got there when it opened and sat on the patio which was very nice. Curt was a friendly and helpful server! I'd order it for my meal any day of the week. My dining mate had the braised short ribs. She said it was delicious. I chose the shrimp and grits. Upon arrival to the quaint and stylish establishment, they seemed to have a full house with very little tables left that wasn't reserved for bigger parties. We did score seats at the bar. Service was impressive and our waiter kept the toddler entertained throughout our stay. Both dishes were phenomenal with a mountain high stack of fluffy delicious lemon blueberry pancakes topped with house whipped cream that was fluffy as air and accompanied with a mixed berries compote on top. All the flowers go to the BLFGT which the green tomatoes were so perfectly fried it provided an extra crunch outside of the glorious thick bacon. The crisp buttery croissant was flaky and delicious. We also got to get a candy cane from Santa himself on our way out the door. We have absolutely no complaints. Otto's food is great (see previous review) and we appreciate the consistently great taste of their food. The reason for 3 rating: they haven't changed the menu for FOREVER. I'd heard they had added a couple things like mussels so we decided to go after a long time of going elsewhere for variety. Too bad, menu had NOT changed. We ate there, had the samo good food but we will wait until we see a new menu before we return. Too bad!!! This sandwich was a disaster. The fried tomato was merely a grease trap with no seasoning whatsoever. The bacon had no flavor and was cooked to a crisp. Aside from that the sandwich had one piece of wilted lettuce on it and what I presume to be a store-bought croissant packed with preservatives. A little slab of mayo might've been the highlight of this sandwich. Was it edible? Yes, would Gordon Ramsay have spit out his first bite? Also, yes. The watermelon Gabacho I ordered as my side was good. Not great but good. The staff seemed delightful, but lack training. I was the only table eating a late lunch here and not once was I asked how my food was or offered a refill on my iced tea or water. Would I come back? Yes. I would like to try dinner here on a busy night in order the menu to see if my suspicions are correct. I suspect that Otto's needs a chef. read more

I want to start with the service as our waiter was superb! We had a 7:15pm reservation on a Sunday night and got our table right away. Unfortunately they had sold out of the initial dish I ordered but our server got us an extra half-order of a an app for free instead, fantastic! We got the burrata as an appetizer and filet as well as halibut as main dishes. Our extra half appetizer was the fried tomatoes. All of the food was excellent! If I had to pick between those two appetizers next time, I think I would go for the tomatoes but both were excellent! The filet was a perfect medium rare and served with delicious potatoes and asparagus. The halibut was flaky and delicious with risotto. Each table has a different cute set salt and pepper shakers, flowers, white tablecloths, and nice silverware. Carly provided excellent service. Never had heard of a B.L.F.G.T. before, but after hearing how good their fried green tomatoes are, I had to try one! It was delicious and filling. Make reservations! If you read nothing else in this review, make sure you see that! People without reservations were told to come back in 2.5 hours on a Sunday morning. Luckily, we did have reservations because this place is a gem! We arrived 5-10 minutes early and were seated immediately. Which is good because the "entry" is the size of a shoebox. What a charming little place! All mismatched chairs and mismatched retro Kentucky Derby water glasses, but done in a cute, homey way. Our table had the cutest salt and pepper shakers that were a barn and a silo and I noticed all the tables had different ones. So cute! Talk about a well-oiled machine! When a table left, a whole crew swept in to change it out for the next patrons. I swear, it must have been 6 different people would clear and reset each table, perfectly choreographed. Service was fast, but we didn't feel too rushed. That being said, it's probably not a place where you'd have a leisurely 2 hour breakfast and coffee with friends. The menu is small...not a lot to choose from but from the two items that we had, I can say they do those to perfection. I got the eggs benedict and hubby got the lemon-blueberry pancakes and they were both out of this world and plated beautifully. I'd absolutely say this was worth our hour drive in from Dayton, Ohio.
