My husband brought me to Baker's Table for my birthday dinner. I first became aware of this place when I started getting ads for the chef's sourdough book on social media--got the book for Christmas, and apparently talked about that enough that he decided I needed to experience the restaurant! What's striking about the restaurant itself is how quiet and calm it feels. With limited nightly seatings and every dinner table doing the tasting menu there's a sort of orchestrated flow that permeates the space. Not to say energy is low or it's so quiet you feel self-conscious talking; it's just that nothing about the experience feels rushed or accidental. As expected, the bread course was phenomenal as was all the food we enjoyed! We opted for the wine pairing along with dinner, which results in about 1.5 or 2 full glasses over the course of the meal. The sommelier did an excellent job introducing and explaining each wine, as well as why it was selected to pair with each course. All told, a lovely experience and one worth repeating--and not just because the menu changes every season. read more

Decided to take my bestie out for her birthday. We like an adventure and this was definitely an adventure in food. This place has been on my list for a good bit and I am happy that we finally got to go. We had a 6:15pm reservation and we were able to find parking right out front on the street. Paid for parking in the parking app. We walked in and we were greeted immediately. The hostess took us to our table and asked if we had been there before and then explained how everything would go. This is a slow food place, no hurry and no worry. You order everything up front and then they course it out for you, dining took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes. It was perfect. They brought their house made sourdough bread to the table to get us started and the butter served with it was super soft, don't you just hate when you get ice cold butter? I do so this was a great way to start. We also ordered a cocktail to start, my friend had the Newport Old Fashioned and I ordered the Yunque. I liked the Old Fashioned better than the Yunque but both were good. Later in the meal my friend had a glass of wine and I had the 30A Margarita, the marg was my favorite overall. The menu is prix fixe with some options and included 5 courses. We started with canapés and this was 2 bites, a brioche toast with smoked trout rillettes and pickled onion, and confit potato, beet, chive powder. My favorite was the smoked trout bite but both of these were a great way to start our meal. Next up was the starter and here we had a choice of a mushroom dish or fish fritters. My girlfriend and I went the opposite on this one. I chose the Bacalao fish fritters with remoulade sauce and a citrus jam. Tasty little fritters but these may have been my least favorite dish of the evening. I also tried her mushroom dish and I thought it had a cleaner taste and I liked it as well. Pasta was our next course and we both chose the Duck Agnolotti with fresh ricotta and fried sage. This dish was divine and my favorite of the evening. My friend had the same feeling about this dish as I did and she said were we not in the restaurant she would have licked the bowl! Delicious. Our main was the next course and again we both chose the same, Catalan Seafood Stew with saffron aioli, and friend polenta. This was a seafood stew in a rich tomato base. It included clams, mussels, and a firm white fish. Another plate licking dish. We then were given a palate cleanser of a rhubarb peach sorbet sitting in a pool of olive oil and surprisingly this worked! On to the dessert course, my girlfriend and I ordered differently here, I ordered the chocolate eclair with the flavors of s'mores and she ordered the berry laden quark cheesecake. The chef brought out our desserts and explained them, that was a nice treat. She loved her cheesecake and I am not a fan of cheesecake so I did not try it but I thought my eclair was the perfect size chocolate dessert to end my evening. We would definitely do this again. The menu changes monthly and can be found on their website. In addition they have the Mercantile across the street where they offer their sourdough bread on Saturdays so we will be back to shop and take home some fresh sourdough. read more

First experience of The Baker's Table this week. Fantastically, it's located on the Kentucky side of the river. Enjoyed the company of another couple for a table of four for this 2-1/2 hour dinner. The tasting menu was set with two choices for each course. My bestie and I chose differently for each course, to allow tasting of all the options. Make sure to have a reservation as the restaurant is a little smaller that if you catch it on a busy night, there would be a long wait. The service was very good and attentive. They explained to us the Prix Fixe Dining option which the couple I was with got. The drinks were very good as were the desserts. We got the Almond Olive Oil cake which was moist and had enough toppings that didn't overpower the dessert itself. We were really looking forward to trying Baker's Table after everything we've heard. We had the 5 course Tasting Menu for $90. per person. we have had many tasting menus before and left feeling very disappointed with our experience. The portions for even a tasting menu were extremely small. My entee (salmon) came out not hot. Our server was not attentive (never once refilled our water glasses or asked if we enjoyed any of our dishes). This was truly a 10/10. It is not just a restaurant, it's an experience. It's the most fun set up I have ever heard of. The food was unbelievable and unique. Each course was made and prepared with such care. The chef delivered each course and explained the ingredients and where they came from which was so special! Had dinner there tonight to celebrate my wife's 58th. To be frank, we are picky. We cook all our own meals at home so when we eat out we almost always leave with a feeling we could have made it better ourselves for half the cost. Not here! Delicious. Innovative. I recently came to Baker's Table on a Saturday night for a friend's birthday. We booked the Baker's Table with pre-fixed 4 course menu. The restaurant itself is small, so plan ahead for reservations. There is ample street parking in front and in adjacent parking lots. There are two bathrooms, which are tidy and well stocked. We were immediately greeted and had drink orders taken. I don't know how worthwhile it is to comment on the menu since it's farm to table and changes based on seasonal availability. We *loved* everything we tried; you could taste how fresh everything was. I tried the Paradign mocktail and my wife had the Petal, both were hits. Sweet potato tempura salad was unique and hearty. The winter lettuce salads was heavy on the blue cheese to my satisfaction. Pastas were what you'd expect from a place like this, but I found the mains to be the stars. I loved the mussels and the berry beef bourgignon was so tender. I would definitely return, and really want to come back to for brunch. read more

Great cocktails to start (bourbon for me, watermelon margarita for hubby), and a real cool vibe where we could actually hear each other talk. We opted for the three course (4 course entails dessert), and chose a salad (winter for me with housemade mozzarella and hot honey, citrus for him), pasta course (mushroom for me, duck for him), and main(chicken and the seafood). Food was wonderful, and pacing was quite nice. My dishes did tend to lean on the vinegar side (perhaps just my choices), but the seafood main was to die for (I'm not sure how they did that fish but that's how I want all my fried fish fillets from now on). read more

The Baker's Table continues to impress me. We recently signed up for and attended one of their wine pairing menus, the Beaujolais and Duck dinner. It was superb. From the five course meal to the wines, it was perfection. They do an absolutely spectacular job with ingredients and taste profiles. Just, wow. We also thoroughly enjoyed the service, attention to detail, and enthusiasm of, well, everyone! I adore this restaurant and I am so pleased to call it part of our neighborhood community. Wow. That is all I can say is wow. Probably the best meal I have ever had. My fiancee and I both got the chefs tasting menu for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. We each got one of the two choices so we had the opportunity to taste everything. Not a single bad thing to say. All the food was so fresh and you could really taste the difference. My most underrated bite was tempura spring onion because it was so sweet and jammy I had never had an onion like that. The servers were all super attentive, taking plates away as soon as you were done and bringing out your next course quickly after. The atmosphere really felt like you just were inside a friends home for a multi course dinner. Very cozy and intimate. Will be coming back to try the future menus for sure! read more

Is it possible to give a place more than 5 stars? If yes this spot is deserving of a higher rating, The customer service is over the top. You are welcomed in and greeted upon arrival. The chef is a Northern California transplant that brought his amazing skills to Northern Kentucky and we should be blessed and support them. I got a warm fresh feeling it is f the oven slice of artisan whole grain sourdough bread with whipped butter and apple butter on the side. Oh my! I don't do this very often but I left with a freshly baked loaf to enjoy at home and there are just two of us. We've been eating fresh bread every morning since Thursday and we will finally finish it up on Monday. We are near Thanksgiving and I'm strongly considering making the 40 minute one-way drive to buy more to share with our family for Thanksgiving. Yes, it's that good. We went to the fall harvest dinner this past weekend and were blown away. 6? 7?? courses, all served with exquisite timing, paired with the NA drinks (these mocktails are insanely well thought, expertly crafted, and really put us in a fall spirit). We were blown away by the meal and for the amount of times we've eaten here, we've never had the same things if you can believe it! And, at $85 per person for a massively delicious and very filling meal with $35 for NA drink pairings, I'd say unbelievably affordable is the category this meals falls into. Just incredible. A rare date night, that took us to Northern Kentucky, had us looking for a unique restaurant. We were looking for some thing that offered locally sourced food that would have vegetarian options for me. We found that in the Baker's Table. After reading numerous positive reviews we decided it was our turn to check out this little gem. We made a reservation to ensure a seat since there are only 44 seats in this restaurant. It is worth noting that when you make a reservation there is a $40 cancellation fee if you do not cancel within 24 hours so be sure you are able to commit to your booking. The restaurant is located on Monmouth St., Newport, KY. There is ample parking in the lot right next to the restaurant itself, so no need to search for on street parking. As soon as we enter, the restaurant, we were greeted and taken immediately to our table. Our waitress was wonderful. She explained how their menu worked and then discussed each offering in detail. They offer a two or three course option with three offerings in each classification. You might be concerned you would not find something you like but they have a nice mix of dishes. The food was delicious. At the end of each course the dishes were removed and new silver ware was provided for the next course. The service was absolutely amazing. This is a Dinner experience, may not apply if you are looking for Brunch. So, a friend and I were to go to another place (which was full and had a 40 min late), and so, we ended up here. Now, they have a pretty set dinner menu. I didn't know. They offer two course or three course options between appetizers, pastas and mains. If you choose two, you can select between pastas and mains. Dessert is ala carte. Each of these have 3 to 4 options to choose from. Concise menu, yes. Honestly, I prefer to have everything ala carte so I can select only what I want. If you are not a fan like I am, maybe skip this place. Once at the table, they give sourdough bread with butter and olives. Both are really good. They also have a drinks menu with certain cocktails, wine, whiskey, beer. My friend got a Skilift cocktail that he liked. In food, for apps, we got the Melon salad. It was good, interesting. Very summery. I stuck with 2 course, and I had the salmon for mains. That was good, cooked really well, with tomatoes and sunflower seeds. My friend got the 3 course. He had the bucatini pasta (very close to Cacio e pepe). Honestly, it was okay. I'd have preferred a proper Cacio e pepe really. For mains, he had the Wagyu beef which looked really good. He liked it. It came with fried (?) potatoes. We also had a chocolate budino for dessert, and that was pretty good. The contrast of sweet mousse with crunchy and salty hazelnuts, was nice. The other thing that didn't work for me? The food was good, no doubt, but it didn't justify the $45 two course thingy. As an adult, you probably have some things to apologize to your parents about. So now I have to add dinner here to that list. I convinced my parents to come based on the press. It was on my list of "must visit" places for my most recent visit home to Kentucky. Everything here was awful. From the open dining room (it was 86 degrees outside in early September... no one wants to enjoy that... close your damn garage door as indoor dining IS allowed here) to the pretentious service. Yes, it did feel like the absolute worst of LA. My father wanted a whiskey and diet coke.... but OH NO... they don't have soda... they have a cane sugar WTF ever and... why do you have a bar if you can't make a basic drink? My mother ordered one of the cane sugar drinks once she was told they had no Coke or Pepsi... and sent it back. Not tasty. I'm playing along and let my server choose a glass of white for me after he asked what I usually drink (apparently Sauvignon Blanc is too pedestrian for this joint - I think he might have rolled his eyes). The wine was fine. White. It was like, you know, a Sauvignon Blanc. Meanwhile, it's so hot in that place I was sweating in my heels... wrapping my dress around my knees. Miserable. They also serve tepid water so maybe it's just their thing to torture guests in the name of environmental friendliness. You win. I couldn't wait to get back in our SUV and blast the AC. The food... the tiny, pretentious food. We ordered the famous sourdough bread. It was hard, charred and served with butter that wasn't great. I've had better bread at the Olive Garden. It just isn't great bread... and yes, I have had great bread. I received 5 pieces of ravioli. No shit. My father got this crazy small piece of salmon on a plate of beans. And then Mom got this baseball mitt sized pork Milanese. When you drop the food and everyone at the table just has to laugh... we weren't all going to be friends at the end of the evening. My tiny tiny food was OK. My father's food was OK. My mother's food was OK. But this was not a dinner worth over $100... They didn't ask if we wanted dessert. By this point, I think we had all reached a tacit agreement that it would be best if we parted ways. This was an experience. My family and I will talk about this meal for years... it becomes part of the story of us as a family and for one brief dinner, this liberal lady bonded with her conservative family over a dinner that was - memorable. Upon walking in, we were met with owner-proprietor Dave and, working in food myself, this was a great surprise to see that the owner was present + passionate. You could tell food, and this space, was his passion. The rest of the team helped committee the service and were so nice and helpful throughout. We chose the smoked salmon and the crepe for our mains and the potatoes for our start. Such a good meal! Did the 4 course menu, with the pasta and salmon. It started with the Roma tomatoes. I'm never a huge fan of tomatoes but these were sooooo good and fresh! Then we got the mushrooms which were very flavorful, the pasta was nice and spicy and the salmon was very well cooked. The ambiance is lovely too. This place is fantastic. I do not know where to start. Hmmm, at the beginning they offer you homemade bread and the creamiest butter with a dash of salt. We ordered the Farm lettuce salad and it tasted like they picked the lettuce from their garden. Then the salad was dressing gave it a unique flavor- I wanted to lick the place. I had to remember I was in a restaurant. Now, the main course was worth the wait. We ordered the rigatoni and the pork mixed grill. The pasta was good perfectly and the bolognese has savory and felt like home. The mixed grill was pork 3 different ways with pickled mustard. It was an explosion of flavor in your mouth. I thought why have not I had this before. We finished off with a warm apple crumble with a pumpkin ice cream. Finally, the service was top tier. The waitress was knowledgeable and so helpful. My friend chose this place for brunch! It's a cute space that's extremely aesthetically-pleasing with all the comfortable furniture, bird paintings, exposed brick, etc. They serve coffee/tea here, so I ordered a matcha latte with oat milk and a shot of espresso. The espresso was light, but the matcha was absolutely perfect! My friend got the Butterfly tea. It's blue, but turns purple once you squeeze the lemon in it and stir it. She ordered the frittata, which is her favorite off the menu. It was huge! Not sure how many eggs they used but it was stuffed with potatoes and veggies. I got biscuits and gravy. It was filling and flavorful! Staff was amazing! Our main waiter was very attentive, but the manager or owner (not sure who he was) checked on us to make sure we enjoyed there food. Other staff made sure our waters were filled. The staff all seemed hipster and friendly. They've got two gender neutral bathrooms. They both have toilets and urinals. The staff is warm and attentive. And the food? Well people certainly aren't lining up simply to socialize in a beautiful space. The menu is widely creative, making it almost impossible to choose from! Fried chicken sandwiches, egg in a hole? Let's not even talk about the Italian ricotta donuts. Honestly, how do you choose? These Ingredients are intentional, as you would expect for a seasonal theme, and well thought of! Often these farm to table type restaurants end up being a little gimicky. It's a lot to commit to!
