long story short: great decor, but overcrowded & overly-strong drinks We went on Saturday night around 9:00 & were surprised it was so packed. It was standing room only & they continued to let people in, to the point where it was difficult to even get to the bar to order a drink. The bar itself was cool, with interesting decor & lots of seating (all of which was full). The bar tenders were very busy, so it was difficult to order. As for the drinks, they were both notably strong. The espresso martini was tasty, even with its pronounced vodka taste. The resident was okay but the alcohol was so strong that it drowned out most of the other flavors; I struggled to finish it. Everyone else enjoyed their drinks & I would be interested in going back to try more things on the menu. I probably wouldn't go in the evening again, as the crowd made it much less enjoyable; it might be a nice place to go for a happy hour before dinner though. read more

Sundry and Vice is the union of being that unassuming yet with all the European Sherlock Holmes aesthetics and ambiance that attracts the evening crowd. I enjoyed dropping in to two friendly bartender and a quiet space to catch up with an old friend. I'd definitely consider coming again for a night out. read more

10/10 would recommend. They have a fantastic atmosphere - busy enough to have a good spirit but not so packed that you can't find a seat or hear conversation (albeit we went on a Wednesday evening). It amazed me how much the vibe of this place changed during the time I was there. Around 8 it was chill, romantic, and although the tables were filled, not very loud. By 10 or so, they were packed, happening, and high energy! The sound levels was pretty loud but you could still have a conversation no problem. The staff were very efficient and had great recommendations if you don't know what you want or want to swap out a liquor in a drink. Had a great conversation about Studio Ghibli and the graphic novel Uzumaki, if that tells you anything about the staff vibe Purple Rain - great balance of lavender to citrus. I tried this on a whim and absolutely loved it! Mr. Blue Sky - this also had a nice balance of tartness and sweetness. Not too much on either side and made with real blueberries I hear. Came here around 9pm on a Friday night and it was quite busy, as expected. We were able to grab some chairs in the corner fortunately. The vibe felt vintage with some cool old prescription pads lining the walls near the bathroom! The drinks were good, but quite expensive. I got a drink called the Night Cure which was bourbon based and delicious! It was refreshing and tart. My wife got the Purple Rain which had lavender gin and violet liquor. Also, very delicious! The service at the bar was fast and the drinks were quickly made. I give it 4 stars solely for the price, as the cocktails felt a little too expensive for what they were, though I suppose you are paying for the vibe as well. $30 for an espresso martini (that didn't match any of the pix on yelp btw. My boyfriend said it was poured premade. It didn't have froth or espresso bean.) & a jack & coke (but they didn't have jack Daniels so knob creek instead). The tables and bar smell like dirty bar rag. The current bar tender looked like Harry Potter & pretty much every one inside had just turned 21. I guess it's a good spot to pregame but I wouldn't stay for long if you were born in the 1900's read more

Dark, conversation bar with very experienced bartenders. Pros: Wide drink selections and knowledge. Cons: None. Just a quick stop before going out. We met our party here and I ordered my favorite a Caipirinha which uses a specific liquor and was very impressed that the bartender didn't hesitate to start making it without directions. He also made sure to not sub vodka and get the actual liquor needed. My bet is if you want something unique this is the place to find it. Total bill (with tip) 14$. Rating 8/10 read more

This was a nice little spot to stumble across. If you want rowdy and lit, this won't be for you. But if you want some low key dark and chill vibes with some decent music in the background, this may be a winner. It's a small shop and has a decent sized bar but you will still see people standing around. Mostly because the bar area does not have a lot of seating so you have to stand around. There are maybe 6 or 7 seating areas, which is not enough for the level of in and out this spot gets. But that's fine with me though. The service was good, the bartender was helpful. But actually the security had the best customer service. He laughed and joked with us and gave us the ins and outs as we stood at the door. The drinks were good, I had a the Night Cure (bourbon with citrus) .. wasn't bad at all. But a lot of the drinks looked worthy of trying. Overall I enjoyed the vibe. I would absolutely go back. It's right next to Washington Park so it's easy access if you are walking around the city. Great area. Give it a shot. read more

Located on the corner of 13th and Republic, this establishment is almost more bar than space for patrons. The post-pandemic changes to outdoor seating has added some space. Their cocktails are handcrafted and some call for herbs, oils, fruit, and egg whites-in keeping with the apothecary theme. Unless you order a draft beer or wine, the staff will require some skill to produce your drink. Please keep this in mind as far as pricing and tipping are concerned. My husband and I stopped by for a drink before dinner on Sunday. The bar had a few other patrons, all happy to celebrate the nicer weather and enjoy the air conditioner. There were a couple of dogs which made it all the better! I had the espresso martini which was presented nicely but the flavor wasn't my favorite. My husband had the Queen Anne's Revenge which was delicious and perfect for a summer day. We then shared the Folk Hero, which had a nice refreshing taste but my husband thought it tasted...grassy? I made a specific stop on my way back to Columbus from Nashville because I have loved this bar. We arrived 20 minutes after open and there is no other way to put this- the bar was dirty. Went to use the restroom and it was noticeably dirty (over flowing trash, soiled toilet). Walking out the floor where the barstools were was sticky and there was significant build up as if the floor hadn't been mopped in a long time. The back bar had nooks of random clutter. I wanted to hope that it might have just been a rough close/open on a busy weekend but the signs of negligence looks older than just 24-48 hours. read more

Classic craft cocktail bar. Honestly, I loved everything about it - the lighting , the classic speak easy feel and of course, the cocktails. I'm from South Florida where we have a great bar or 2 and really appreciate when all the details are attended too. Sundry and Vice is a great stop in a big evening and even better on a Sunday night when it's not knee deep in people. Question: What is more hipster than apothecary-themed drinks with absinthe and chartreuse? Answer: Sundry and Vice's NEW menu. Apparently in 2019 doing egg white cocktails is now passé (they took them off the menu). If you're wondering what could be even more trendy and delicious, they have a few new options: 1) The Duck Fat Boulevardier ft. a duck fat- washed bourbon 2) The "Green Carnation", an Oscar-Wilde-inspired drink (I mean, it IS June after all). 3) My favorite - the Spicy Paloma: tequila, grapefruit juice, chili. If you like the sound of rose water, gunpowder gin and pineapple-infused vermouth check out the new menu. I was clearly sad to see the egg white drinks go since I had been drinking them here since S&V opened (but, they can still make them). The new concoctions are fun and even more inventive. read more

One positive thing Covid has done for me, is urge me to get out there, try new things, and support local businesses. I'm disappointed a didn't discover this place sooner! I'm a cheese lover, and when I saw the blue cheese infused cocktail on the menu, I knew I struck gold! I could sit and watch bartenders make drinks all day, it's truly an art form in my opinion! The bartender here knows his craft, and knows it well! I asked him if he could whip up a cocktail (not on the menu) utilizing the blue cheese, and he certainly came through! They also have some of the BEST draft cocktails I've ever had. Coconut banana Sazerac being one of those, and it's to die for! I've been back 3 times in the last couple months, and will definitely be back for more! read more

Cocktails and concerts pair well together so I stopped in at Sundry and Vice for a pre-event starter. This place is super close to Washington Park, Music Hall and all of the trendy places in OTR. The vibe is old school bar with a neighborhood following. It looked like people trying it for the first time and regulars chatting with the staff - super relaxing and inviting. The drink menus had some pretty cool options and through talking with people at the bar, found them to be tasty. I stuck with a classic and my wife went for peach seltzer. Prices were good. I will be back and visit soon! read more

If you enjoy cocktails, this spot is excellent. They have a huge menu with tons of options, but I'd recommend asking the bartender to make you something off menu! You can do so by describing a few traits you're looking for in the drink. I've asked for a bourbon/whiskey based drink that isn't too sweet but has a little Citrus and they did not disappoint by delivering a Trinidad Sour- something I've never heard of before. I'd heard about this place quite a bit in recent years but hadn't had the chance to make it in yet. Until tonight, that is!! This place is owned and managed by the same folks who operate my beloved Comfort Station in Walnut Hills. So I knew this would be a great visit downtown. I absolutely love the dark, sensually lit ambiance of Sundry & Vice! Big win there. I do wish it was a little bigger, so I'd only go on a date or with a couple of friends. Dean concocted some citrus Fall drink for me to consume that was quite nice also. Decided to try Sundry and Vice after dinner downtown and I'm glad I did! The bar was busy and loud enough to give the right vibes, but also still allow you to have a conversation. I had their scotch cocktail which was an interesting balance between spices, smokiness and a lemon aroma. I'd recommend if you usually get an old fashioned and want to shake it up a bit. The bartender I was helped by was working very hard while also talking to me which was impressive. In my opinion, this is an indication of a great bartender! I'd totally recommend this place for a casual date or general drink grabbing because of the noise level. I would not consider it an intimate cocktail bar from my Friday night experience. read more

I have to be honest. I don't often go "out" for drinks. I am in my late 40's and unless I am on vacation, I prefer to drink in the backyard. To quote my brother in law, "A cocktail is measured, not poured". I would go one step further and say a proper cocktails has proper ingredients. If it calls for lime juice, it best be fresh squeezed. I enjoy a gimlet. I do not enjoy making gimlets. It is messy, sticky and time consuming because you have to make the simple syrup and squeeze the lime. But you can't just go anywhere and get a proper gimlet. You can go to Sundry and Vice. Full disclosure, due to the high alcohol content of a gimlet, much of my visit is a little, shall we say, hazy. This place was on the smaller, more intimate, size. Dark, loud, growing increasingly crowded the later it got. Experienced bartenders and a cool vibe, a great place for well made cocktails. If I had water, I do not recall. I probably did not. Hence why I am having difficulty recalling. read more

Ive waited too long to come here. Finally my boyfriend took me on a Saturday afternoon. When I stepped in, I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and drinks! They have specialty drinks which are made with well liquors and fresh ingredients. They start at $10.00 but well worth the money! We had a couple of drinks that caught our eye: -Night Cure: Bourbon, lemon, honey, grapefruit oil. This is tart and citrusy. Love it! - Sherry Cobbler: Fino, sherry, sparkling wine lemon, pineapple and raspberry. Not too sweet. Very refreshing and crisp. - Penicillin: Blended scotch, honey, lemon, ginger and laphroaig. Love the the taste of smokiness and an it spicy.y favorite drink so far. Hooked! They do have simple and nice craft beer selection. Along with wines. On weekdays, they do have happy hour (varies on specials) They do not serve food. I can't wait to come back! What an awesome experience and great service! read more

I love, love, love this bar. It is a must on my list when friends come to visit. It looks like an old fashioned apothecary from the outside, with little potions and jars in the windows. Inside is small and intimate with a bar and just a few booths. The drink menu is quite large and the cocktails here are made with care and thought. You may wait a bit longer for a drink here, but it's guaranteed to be a quality cocktail and made very well. The bartenders here have always been wonderful and provided excellent service. I've enjoyed the old fashioned and the strawberry aperol spritz (both of which are on tap at the bar). Who am I kidding, I've enjoyed every drink I've had here! read more

Be aware it will be FAST. Look at the order ahead of time if you're a picky eater/drinker. They run your appointment like clockwork, and you'll be in-and-out, gulping down cocktails, through the entire experience. Your two drinks are included (this year, anyway), and I'd honestly be surprised if you managed to have time for a third. Time zips by fast. That being said, because they do it this way, you essentially have constant service, there's "events" that happen at the end of your reservation time, (I don't want to spoil it, but cover your drink!), and then they kick you out. Service was friendly, though, and I saw the server make time to take group photos for all of the tables (including ours) with someone at the table's camera. (No bullshit "group photo" upsells here) It's kinda loud, though, and I wouldn't recommend this as a chill meet-up-and-socialize spot. (If you wanna talk, they have an addendum, Christmas-themed laid-back bar next door.) It's more of a "get blasted in the face by Christmas for an hour and then leave" experience. It's pretty loud, and talking can be a bit difficult over the music and constant interruptions (more drinks? Photos? Cute Christmas video montage?) But this works in its favor as it feels the most Christmas, over-the-top, and seasonal out of all the holiday bars I've ever been to. It also keeps it from feeling too crowded as reservations are required, so you for-sure have a seat and you don't have to stand forever in line to wait for drinks. I'd probably guesstimate that bar staff is making all of their seasonal drinks, constantly, and servers just pick one up to deliver. With the capacity in here, it would make sense. No idea what the bar is like the rest of the year; this is just a review for the Miracle pop-up which, again, is probably the best I've been to in the Midwest. Cincinnati, you're spoiled down here. (Sidenote, I was absolutely taken aback by their TV presentation on the wall. It's hard to describe, but it isn't just a projector showing a giant rectangle. It's specifically slotted into the holes in-between holiday decorations. Staff told me that had to hire special technicians to get it to show up that way and that's seriously a level of detail I am so amazed by.)

They don't have much food, just some pre-packaged chips and such but some of the chips were from China with pretty odd flavors, so that was kind of fun to give a try. The photos I have seen online don't do this place justice. It's cute and comfy and super clean. Even the women's bathroom had cute decor! As we were leaving, a band was setting up to play later that evening. I was pleasantly surprised to see they often have live music and on Fridays and Saturdays, they have a band from 5-7 and another from 8-10.
