Wow, what a fall from Grace... When second story originally opened the bar was incredible. The music was great, the drinks were really well made, and they had a great selection and were willing to make specialty cocktails for anybody who asked. Sadly not the case today. Each and every time my friends and I have returned it seems that things are getting worse and worse. The menu has been cut in half, the service is not as good as it used to be, the prices have increased, and they are no longer willing to make exceptions or modify most of the cocktails; even when asking for something simple like a replaced spirit for an up-charge or to accommodate allergies. It's been getting a little more "club" atmosphere recently. The music is louder, the clientele a little more rowdy. Maybe some prefer that, but we miss the elevated cocktail lounge it used to be. read more

Worth coming here just for the cool space both inside and on the patio! But the craft cocktails make it easy to stay. Like their sister bar Somerset, they offer an inventive seasonal cocktail menu that's never boring. The bartenders are also very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I'll be back! The bar area is cool. However, our drinks were not great. The bourbon for the old fashion was not named on the menu, then poured out of a label-less bottle. It was very bad. I could not finish it. We basically wasted $30 on two drinks that we didn't finish. The bartender was nice. read more

A cool setup with a variety of drinks! Located on the 'second story' of a building, this place is uniquely designed. The first thing you may notice is the huge tree at the bar. The bar is basically designed around the tree adding a level of uniqueness of the bar. You'll find casual seating at the bar, more intimate lounge type seating to the left, or venture out to the rooftop area where you'll find the famed football goal post on the roof. Plenty of space for large groups. I imagine this is a popular spot in the summer on the rooftop. Drinks were great and overall good price point. Would come back! read more

Don't miss out on this adorable new Covington bar! It's literally on the "second story" of this building - right above Flying Axes. The outdoorsy, artsy vibe is displayed in beautifully curated decor, and their themed drinks are fun and colorful. I met up with a friend around 5 p.m. on a Wednesday, and was surprised to we were some of the only people there! As we stuck around though, more and more of the "after-work" crowd arrived. We were even more pleasantly surprised to find that we received $2/off our as part of a "happy hour" special, which I didn't see advertised anywhere, but is always a great bonus! I sampled two cocktails during my visit - the Fire Alarm and the El Cristiano. The former was like a spicy-sweet margarita with a fun color from the beet juice (don't worry, you can hardly taste the beets)! The latter was equally as delicious, with some added brightness from the lime and some basil garnish. This seems like the kind of bar where you could order just about anything and it would be perfectly crafted. I didn't get a chance to check out their rooftop patio this time around - but I'm sure I'll be back again soon! read more

What a cute place! My daughter had been here on a weekend date when it was packed and wanted to take us there for Father's Day. We weren't sure if they'd be busy on Father's Day, but since it was a mid Sunday afternoon they were practically empty, which was fine with us! We got a drink at the bar, then relaxed on their comfy sofas. There's lots of natural light and plants and it felt very homey. What a beautiful space! Such a lovely ambience this bar has. It felt like every where you looked there was something new to see. It's very artsy and kinda boho. The most eye catching thing is probably the big tree behind the bar that holds some liquor bottles. We sat at the bar but I'm definitely interested in sitting at the patio when it's warmer! Drink menu was nice, just a couple of "the classics" and some spins on them. Bartender also let us know we can order off menu, too, which is nice. We ended up ordering drinks on the menu and they were perfect! Looking forward to coming back! read more

I was here on Saturday 7/26 with some friends. I am very generous with my review but this place deserves a big fat BOOOOO. The DJ was so bad. Just noise. We requested a switch up, and no switch up occurred. My sister stated "I feel like it's a children's sound machine and they just keep hitting the same button over and over again." Wowza! I'll cross the bride anytime to hangout at Second Story. Obviously, one of my favorite bars is Somerset so I had high expectations. It's spacious, beautiful, decorative yet simple all at the same time. I definitely appreciate the simplicity. We went on a Saturday at around 5 pm and the older crowd was there. Bartenders are some of the rudest people I've ever met. I asked for a Diet Coke and it was flat, brought it to the bartenders attention and she shrugged at me. I asked if she could try another machine, which she replied with they're all flat. Seems like they don't care about the service they are providing to their paying customers. They did not seem interested in fixing this issue. This also meant that any drink they made with a carbonated mixer would come out flat. read more

Visited Second Story with girlfriends the other evening for a night cap. From the owners of Somerset and Alice, this bar is a cute addition to the Pike St / Madison area of Covington. It's in the old firehouse and upstairs from the Axe Throwing business. Cocktails are high end and use unique ingredients. We tried the Gem City, Tend your Garden, and False Alarm (NA). The bartender was super friendly and personable. They're still learning the menu and I thought the prices were a little steep, especially for the non alcoholic drink. But the ambiance makes it with a treehouse vibe and beautiful velvet chairs and chandeliers. Tip - Wednesday night was the perfect bit of busyness. This place is popular from the start and could be packed on the weekends so if that's not your thing try it midweek. read more

Vibe - The aesthetic is upscale and the giant tree is something different. The whole ambiance is not really my thing... kinda plush... but most people seem to like it. Service - Service at the bar was a bit slow, but not unreasonable given they seem to get very crowded on the weekends. I would recommend going outside of peak hours if you prefer a less crowded bar. Drinks - The cocktails are pretty good, or hit the "specialty cocktail bar standard", but I don't think they justify the prices on the menu for this area. You can get a lot of good cocktails around Covington without paying this much. I was also hoping to find a bit more bourbon selection than what they had, it is NKY after all. Prices - I talked to several other people who've gone in the first few months and each one independently raised the point about the prices just feeling too high. Most also only visited once. I understand they are a new nicer bar and set the prices at the top of the market. Personally I would rather see something more unique and some sort of specials. Pretty much every other cocktail bar I usually take people to around OTR / Downtown / NKY has more affordable options, both for cocktails and otherwise. Overall - For me, I was split between 3/5 or 4/5... I rated 4/5 stars because it's new and I would like to see them find something unique to better stand out, but I enjoy their other bars (Somerset [5/5], Alice [4/5]). For me, Second Story just feels like it's missing that something special today to make it really unique or be on the same level as the other two. I also felt the cocktail and bourbon prices were just too high for the neighborhood. I'm not sure if I'd go back regularly or recommended it much right now. If they did something different on weekdays, added a good happy hour etc, that would be encouraging. read more

This bar was great! We went on a Thursday and it wasn't too rowdy. There was a dj and some pop up shops like vintage clothes etc. I got the coal miner's daughter and if you're a margarita fan it was more of a citrusy take on one and I loved it. The presentation was great too. This bar was designed to perfection. It's larger than I anticipated and every corner is beautiful. I ordered the Gem City and my friends ordered Columbines in Your Hair and both were delicious! We didn't have much time before our dinner reservation but we were able to sit in one of the lounge areas on the rooftop/patio area for a bit and we had a great time!
