We walked by this place on our way to the weekend art fest, and 'twas like 'huh, 1937 eh .. pretty cool'. The place had a bygone era dignity, a european alfresco vibe (a la Sudova), a refined mediterranean food vibe (a la Abigail Street) and there was the whole 1937 thing. When we got there the owner explained this was the descendants of the founder of Gold Start Chili opening this as a homage to his vision of a restaurant as an elevated yet welcoming family place. The place it turns out reflects the fact that they bought what was a refined saloon (where the Brat Boyz might have met in the 50s), along with a decidedly modern vibe in the back. I could ramble on about the food, but the salad makes the point. Everything they have is familiar .. with a twist. The salad is extra fresh because it is a head of romaine artfully sauced with a test for herbivores to practice turkey carving skills. The other dishes mirror that sort of familiar-meets -twist take. Devilled eggs (something I decidedly avoid at buffets) was quite good, with a homemade chili oils and black salt. The staff was quite chill, engaging but not talking your ear off. Much of the staff were childhood buddies who decided (I guess successfully) to test their friendship by going into business to together. The only part I'd quibble is the '1937' thing (it's when the Gold Star owner was born, not 2020 when the restaurant opened). But you know, quibbles get muffled when uttered with a mouth full of Biscoff 'meatloaf' (thick cut) and home made OrangeCello. read more

This is my third time coming and it did not disappoint. I absolutely LOVE their pita and hummus. The falafel is very flavorful and pairs well with their homemade hot sauce. The chicken skewers were so flavorful and the couscous with green beans paired well with it. I also get a mocktail each time and they're always good. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. Everything is made fresh and the space is always clean. There's street parking and outdoor seating available. My beautiful wife and I were at a loss on where our next date night dinner should be, when I stumbled across this hidden gem. It was somewhere in between the light and the dark. Not fully dark but like... where the light was not. Frankie's is THE spot. The food was incredible. SO good, SO fresh. The drink selection was good. Our server was incredible too. Something I appreciated was that it came out hot - most places don't do this. Highly recommend the whipped ricotta, Arancini, hummus, and the Branzino is not to be missed. I want to start out with the fact that I would give 4.5 stars but that's not an option. And when I decided whether to round down or round up, I rounded up because it's not like there were any dealbreakers. So five stars it is. It's a cool spot. There were five of us meeting for happy hour. Three shared the arancini, deviled eggs, and halloumi and all of them were excellent, my favorite being the deviled eggs. The cocktail menu is nice - I had a Kentucky Bash and I was surprised at how big and how strong it was. I don't remember what the happy hour specials are but the regular prices weren't bad either. Service was above average. We did have to get their attention a couple times. There seemed to be a lot of people working in a small kitchen. We got a glimpse in the kitchen and it's super basic so I'm even more impressed with the food they put out. I honestly didn't know this place even existed but I would definitely go back. read more

We went to Frankie's Sips & Savories recently. We enjoyed ourselves and I would like to give it a 4.5, but there is no such option. The food was wonderful. I loved their deviled eggs with pickled chorizo and fines herbes and they had some of the best I've tasted, plus their pomme paillasson was delectable. Think of them as a fancy form of tater tots with aioli on the side. Definitely a do-over. Not a fan of their curried breaded chicken as there was way too much breading. Followed by charred branzino with a delicious mushroom risotto with pea tendrils. A wonderful chocolate dessert was shared by both of us. If you get there in time there is a happy hour. It was a busy night with an event going on, but they sat us right away and the staff could not have been more gracious. I really enjoyed my experience at Frankie's. I went for happy hour with a few friends and tried out some various apps and drinks. I'm gluten free but there were still options and the staff seemed to have a good handle on what I could order. We tried the tots, deviled eggs, arancini and my favorite, the branzino. Amazing! Decent spot for a tapas style evening. Apparently Frankie's is an homage to one of the founders of Gold Star Chili. You can read all about it on the back of their menu or just speak with one of the many friendly waiters who are very willing to share their story. I recently enjoyed a relaxed meal here prior to seeing a show at the Aronoff. We arrived before the evening rush and were in and out without much trouble. They boast some truly tasty items including the Crispy Haloumi and the Curry Breaded Chicken. The Deviled Eggs were a bit of a miss, but they made up for it with a couple fun cocktails. The atmosphere and some of the details aren't quite up to snuff, but you wouldn't guess that from your bill at the end of the night. Prices add up pretty quickly, but I guess that's the whole point of these tapas places: give you a little variety and charge you a lot. It is a successful business model. Overall, Frankie's is a good experience, but likely not a spot that you will return to time and time again. read more

Everyone in our group loved everything about this place - convenient location, cozy ambience, excellent service, and AMAZING FOOD! We share several dishes for lunch, including the whipped ricotta, marinated olives, deviled eggs, falafel, curry breaded chicken, Musakhan, grilled short rib pita. The included sides were just as delectable, especially the yummy fries (with an unexpected tasty coating). Also tried a couple of the signature cocktails, which were equally delicious. The waitress shared stories about the history of the restaurant, which just added to a wonderful overall experience. The $25 lunch special is a nice deal - the juice is super fresh and delicious, the grilled chicken sandwich is surprisingly delicious, the pita was warm and fresh, the fries are nice and crispy, and a the baba ghanoush is also solid. The staff was welcoming and attentive; we sat at the bar and spoke to numerous folks behind the bar, making jokes and getting their recs on the menu. The Aseel cocktail was delicious (if you like licorice!), we got a few of those! I recommend a duo of the whipped ricotta and baba ghanoush - the perfect combo of complimentary sweet and savory dips!! The pitas were the perfect consistency of soft but firm enough to dip. We also got the arancini and chicken pita. Everything was flavorful, although I wish the filling of the pita had been better distributed so each bite had variety - the chicken was well seasoned but you had to get through a mound of basic lettuce to enjoy it. The latter options were a bit pricey, especially the pita for what was offered, but all in all I would highly recommend checking this place out for a cocktail and/or bite to eat. read more

The kitchen is minute, and as someone who has designed and run kitchens for decades, I was blown away by what they are producing out of that tiny space. I loved this place!! My first visit and I can't wait to return. The hummus was delicious and they offered to bring us more pita or size cucumber to enjoy it longer. I loved my falafel sandwich. It was a pita that was toasted and stuffed full of delicious goodies. Additionally, they were pickled veggies on the side, which is outstanding if you were trying to enhance your gut microbe. The service was excellent. We were well taken care of by a couple of different people that could have been due to the fact we were early and it was a little slow as far as other diners being in the place. However, I would like to think the service is excellent, no matter how busy the establishment might be. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. It was half price Wednesday for a bottle of wine and we partook bringing the rest of the bottle home. What I liked even more than the good which was fabulous was the ambience. The setting is beautiful with the bar taking up most of the area, but there are tables in the back where you could be seated. I can't wait to return again. Frankie's is an awesome after work happy hour or date night place! We tried Frankie's before the Taylor Swift concert and the staff was professional and welcoming amongst the chaos. We had the babaganoush, aranchini, and stuffed falafel pita. The pita bread at Frankie's may have been the best pita I've ever had in my life. The presentation of all of the food and quality was perfect. I had a fresh blueberry summer cocktail that had the perfect amount of sweetness. Frankie's atmosphere was a bit confusing-- the food and furniture was chic and modern while some of the decor and the attire of the staff was extremely casual. I'm always searching for the grown n sexy crowd and this place is exactly what this city needs. The tots, well...I'm still thinking about them the next day (they don't present well but don't let that fool you). The deviled eggs were simple yet tasty. The shrimp with cannoli beans was an odd combination but it was surprisingly tasty. I enjoyed the olives but I never really care for the pit. 2 complaints: we ordered a dirty martini and it was not good (too much vermouth). I would stick to script and just order cocktails from the menu which were good. The other complaint is that the lamb inside the risotto ball was slightly chill. Chef should make sure the lamb is warmed completely, that threw me off. Overall, I love this place and I will be back soon. P.S. They have salsa dancing on Friday nights starting at 10. read more

Only came here for drinks on a Thursday at 4 PM but really enjoyed the atmosphere and drinks we had. They have Happy Hour which was great to see, but unfortunately is only on their beer and wine list, not the cocktails. My guest had the How's Your Love Life which was vodka based with fruit puree - the fruit puree made the drink a little sweeter than what we would have liked but it was still an overall great refreshing drink. I had the Spice Up Your Life which was tequila based and had jalapenos in it - this had a nice little kick but I actually wish it was spicier! I would love to come back and try some of the other drinks as well as some of the menu items.
