Went to the blind lemon for the first time and it was a fun experience. I like the idea of the tucked away patio and the different seating options- my friend and I got sat at a small table with 4 seats and a couple got sat next to us- I felt a little bad for their date night vibe being thrown off but they were able to move when more seating opened up. Blind Lemon is such a vibe - hidden gem. The stained glass, copper, and wood paneling really transports you into another world. It feels like you should be in the mountains, not in Cincinnati which is really awesome feeling and experience when decoration can do that. The Blind Lemon is perhaps the most unique bar I've frequented in Cincinnati. Sitting atop sleepy Mount Adams, The Blind Lemon sits sandwiched between the Bar and Grille, a guitar lesson studio and several apartments. You could almost miss it, mostly nondescript, but if you do stop on your walk, backpedal a few steps, and listen to the neon humm of the palm tree sign, you become enticed pretty quickly. You walk down the stone steps, and shimmy past patrons. The dark passageway opens to a patio lined with trees; sparkling lights shining brightly. A speakeasy, you wonder... The inside; just as fanciful. The low ceilings are filled with trinkets, like tiny aluminum cars, old campaign posters, and a hundred different copper mugs. On the walls hang gold records, autographed headshots of notable guests, daggers and axes, ornate walking canes, and all manner of shining splendor. A poster of Blind Lemon Jefferson (the namesake) rests stoically in the transition from outside to in. Speaking of notable guests, the Blind Lemon has a few. Janis Joplin ring any bells? The husky-voiced rockstar could be seen at the end of the bar in 1963, bringing that big California vibe with her. There's Jimmy Buffet's name in gold embossed letters. They say he played there at the beginning of his career, filling that cozy vestige with summertime ease. There's mentions of Martin Scorsese, George Clooney, The Smothers Brothers, Dick Cavett, the Lumineers, Ryan Gosling, Halle Berry and many, many more. What does it say about a place when guests like these come for a drink? It's one of the best kept secrets in Cincinnati and I'm not quite sure how it keeps such a low profile. It's maintained and operated like a precise wrist watch; not a flickering candle out of place. It's small, which is a charm that keeps it special. You feel illuminated when you're there. Like a hopeful light is shining behind your eyes. Special is a word I'd like to say again; this place has got it in spades. In all my visits there, I've never seen an argument. No throwing people out on the street. Folks either act with more tact when at the Lemon or the management helps them to with indelible grace. Now to my connection to this fateful establishment. The first time I journeyed to the Lemon, it was early fall. A massive fire roared in the center of the patio. I drank a hot 'milky way' in a small, tan mug (it tastes like hot chocolate, caramel and amaretto all at once) and a musician played softly under the vines and the glow of an antique lamp post. I was amazed. I was filled with magic. I could not stop looking around. My friends' laughs were heartier, their smiles wider. It was a treat to be there. It was special. I leaned over to my friend, Bevan and said, "One day, I'm gunna play here." Fast forward 3 years and I'm taking guitar lessons from Nicholas Tuttle, a wizard on a 6 string. I believe he then referred me to Walter Brown (the Blind Lemon's unwavering captain and GM) and I was sitting under that same viny stage with my guitar in hand soon after. Nervous is a modest word. This gig felt like the big time to this up and coming songwriter. As I set up my gear, a loud feedback sound came through the PA. I was finished. I had just ruined my dream from 3 years earlier. I was dead in the water. I wasn't a professional, I was an imposter who didn't know anything about performance. I was through. People winced for a moment and looked at me disdainfully, but then they just carried on and didn't care. Walter Brown said, "Keep it movin', Tyler." I sighed and recovered. Night not ruined, show must carry on. It was hot that day and I wore my best panama hat; sweat dripping from the brim. I felt like background music in the beginning, but my sentiment changed to 'vibe-curator' shortly after. The drinks were good, the weather was right. I don't believe the grin left my face during my entire set. In one sense, I felt like I had arrived in a small way. And then in the summer of 2021, I got a call from Mr. Brown. "Tyler, (he said in his gruff voice) we want you to play at the Blind Lemon every Wednesday from now on." I put down the phone and leapt off the ground. I teared up and then I placed the phone back to my ear. . "I would love to play at the Blind Lemon every week. Thank you so much for the opportunity." I whirled and spun ... my dream was coming even more true. I love to play at the Lemon. It's an honor. I feel like I'm a part of a secret fraternity under all those golden names on the wall. I get a couple drinks for free when I play there and the bartender Jack ("the mayor) the bartender makes the most amazing French Martini. read more

Still going strong after all these years. It's hard to believe it still has the great energy it has always have. This place was voted the best bar in America by a major publication years ago and and it still holds up A great place to come for eclectic live music. The night I went we were treated to ambient ukulele which was really a great change, but mostly this place is known for folk and rock unplugged music. Its counterpart in Portland, ME, is Bramhall, another below-ground, dimly lit, eclectically-decorated cocktail bar that is incredibly charming, somehow never jam-packed, and always delicious. The ambience is what makes the Blind Lemon a go-to spot in Mount Adams. While you're dining, you're surrounded by autographed portraits of old-timey stars, stained glass, and a unique interior reminiscent of a local pub in London, perhaps. In the summer, the Hibiskiss is the way to go. They have great, hot drinks for winter as well--my personal favorite is the Snuggler (peppermint schnapps, cocoa), or the Hot Toddy. Blind Lemon is such a Cincinnati and Mount Adams treasure. So when my husband and I visited, we had to stop by, even though it was a bit chilly outside and we wanted to sit outside due to COVID. Happily, Blind Lemon has a great patio. It was slow when we arrived and were among the only people on the patio for a while. We were able to warm up thanks to a fun winter drinks menu. My husband got a hot buttered rum, and I got a virgin hot chocolate. The hostess was fast with the drinks and accomodations. The back patio has a large fire pit as well as heaters, which help to make the scene cozy. It also has a weathered look that lets you know that many a good time have been had there. The inside is also great. Definitely peek in if you get the time. And don't pass by the sign by the entrance of all the famous people who have enjoyed a drink at the Blind Lemon. read more

We went to this bar on a Friday night after our friends got engaged. We were so excited to celebrate! Someone in our party called a couple days before and asked if we could bring in a couple of pizzas and let them know we would have about 30 people in our party. We were told that would be okay and they would see us on Friday. When we arrived around 5:30, we were greeted by a kind waitress who made sure we had drinks all evening. Around 7:30, someone came outside and began aggressively rearranging all the patio furniture, including the chairs we were using. He was moving things around, scraping the furniture across the concert and banging the metal chairs together. He asked to speak to the future groom and told him we had to leave at 8 because they were going to have live music. This is when we found out that he was the owner. This situation was very confusing to us. We called ahead and were given permission for a group this size, we had complied with all the requests that were made of our party (such as moving to a specific area when new guests needed to be sat), AND we were spending money!! In fact, we had already ordered another round of drinks, right before we were asked to leave. The owner then came back outside and began putting patio cushions on the seats, while people were still sitting on the chairs. At this point, the amount of unprofessionalism was astonishing and we were happy to not give this place any more of our money. We all paid our tabs, tipped our waitress, and went to a different bar to continue the celebration. Here's the overall summary: If we had been told we only were allowed to stay for a certain amount of time, that would have been fine. If our party had been rowdy and disruptive and they needed us to leave, that would have been fine. If we weren't paying for drinks and were taking up space of paying customers, and that's why they had us leave, again, that would have been fine. However, none of those situations actually happened!! This place has one extremely nice waitress who made sure we were taken care of. Otherwise, all this business is made up of is an unprofessional and rude owner, other waitresses who don't care about you and are unkind if you're not "their table", and overall mediocre cocktails. Safe to say we will not be returning and this should be a warning to you all to spend your money somewhere else, especially if you are celebrating such a special and important event as an engagement. read more

A cute little spot in Mt. Adams. We walked down the alley to get to the bar and were quickly greeted by a man who sat us inside. He shared with us that we would have to sit at a table of 5 right inside the door even though we only had 2 and that we'd need to share the table - we were okay with this and said yes. Later on 2-top tables opened and I wish our servers would have offered to move us over to them and away from the open door where there was a cold breeze coming in. For beverages we had the Little Miss Sour, Hot Toddy, and another hot beverage with benedictine liqueur in it. The Little Miss Sour was very unique, the Cabernet Float was a fun touch. The hot drinks were nice for a cold winter night, the Benedictine drink had lots of unique flavors, and was sadly a little too hot when it first came out. The space is very eclectic with lots on the walls and ceilings to look at. The servers were very nice and attentive, and it's nice how they help move the tables to allow you better access into your seat as the place is so small. It gets very loud in the space especially with live music, but it's great that they offer live music at all. Overall a good experience and would love to come back and sit at inside in another part of the restaurant to get to experience the whole place. read more

Didn't even go to dine or anything. We had heard such great things about the place and just wanted to check out the place, but god forbid we do such a thing. Felt extremely unwelcome by a bartender who yelled at us from inside and when we calmly explained that we were just looking, he continued to say "no you're walking past the sign that says 'please wait to be seated'" in which I calmly repeated myself and said we were just looking sorry. There's no food- but they do give pretzels to munch on. There's no dedicated parking lot, but there's on street parking options in adjacent streets.
