A dive bar spot that is good to end the night at. Michael the bartender was super sweet and made me a drink with vodka, champagne and a lemon peel. Crowd was a mixed bag of people. Cool to see a spot that has been around since the 1800s. It's part of a conglomerate group now that owns 20+ other bars in the area. read more

This bar has a great old school fancy feel that has some of the best drinks in OTR. They have booths for larger groups as well as a Photo Booth in the back which was great to use with friends. I got the gimlet which was amazing, but I also had the espresso martini. I personally love the vibes and went when they had live music. The staff is great and fast with drinks. It is easy to access on the street and is a good stop for a bar crawl. read more

I've always loved the vibe in this place and had not been in since they renovated. The renovation made it even more charming and since it was not very busy on Sunday afternoon, we could walk around and take in the space freely. This place is known for its cocktails and nothing about that aspect has changed; there are only so many places I can order a Negroni and Japp's never disappoints. Wow Japp's is a VIBE! $7 espresso martinis on Friday is where it's at... the cinnamon and mocha flavors were on point. Even the original was really good. Only downside is they use cold brew concentrate instead of fresh espresso but hey I get it, they're busy! Also the little daqsnack shots are sooo good too. If I could leave a ZERO..I would! I decided to come to this bar for Halloween weekend on 25/oct/2024, and at first it was fine..a basic bar with drinks. BUT...there is always a but lol...when I ordered a espresso martini and the BARTENDER spilled my drink and I told them I wasn't paying for it, instead of correcting the issue they kicked me out. I had a in depth conversation with the manager and tbh at the end the day he's a person that cares more about not getting in trouble than doing the right thing. This is a tiny ass over priced useless ass bar, do not waste your time! This a fun place I've visited off and on for many years! They remain consistent with ambiance, drinks, and a very friendly crowd. Adam was my bartender-very professional and welcoming. We were in town after moving to California seven years ago. Stopping at Japp's for a cocktail or two was on our list of things to do. Menus were available to download to our phones. We each ordered something different; they were all great. I ordered the Honey Vanilla Spritz - Vodka, vanilla honey, fresh lemon, topped with sparkling wine. It was super refreshing. The vodka and sparkling wine were a good pair and the tartness of the lemon evened out the sweetness of the honey. So good I had a second. It was Thursday evening just as they opened, so it was not crowded. We enjoyed the window table, but I'll warn you... the mirror next to the window will mess with your mind. Didn't notice how awful the name is and glad I went with Chardonnay because my friends drink wasn't great. Stayed for some jazz music, it was ok. There were people dancing which was cool. This is one of my favorite spots in Cincinnati. The vibe is so cool. I almost felt transported to New Orleans the night we went in because of the love music - fantastic! The copper bar, the back patio, the diverse crowd. In fact, this place just oozes charm. We only had non-alcoholic drinks, but they were delish. Terrible service. My espresso martini was not at all the correct proportions and tasted way off... not to mention it was $15 and in a mini / smaller than usual glass. Also absolutely no one in the place except two guys at the bar who acted like we didn't belong... will go elsewhere next time. read more

Breaks my heart to write this review but this place has really gone downhill. Used to be my favorite bar and the best bar in Cincinnati hands down about 5 years ago. Cozy, art deco vibes, with the best jazz music playing in the background. The whole environment from the staff to the artwork on the wall felt like a tribute to Cincinnati history. The the bar tenders put nothing but passion and creative into the drinks, which used to be a fun twist of old school classics. Fast forward to now...slow service, mediocre drinks, boring decor (got rid of the covered booth style tables in favor of a dance floor). They swapped jazz and blues background music for a club EDM DJ in the back. No clue what this bar is trying to be but it's unrecognizable from the one I used to love. The only thing to be said about this bar now is that it's fine, unremarkable in every way that matters. read more

From the outside it looks okay but not too exciting but inside I really liked it. Very swanky and the bar itself is great. Nice places to sit and hang out. Mahalo-ween! Spooky Tiki night complete with tropical goth music...which is apparently a thing. Service was good. The drinks took awhile but it's all about quality over quantity at Japp's. I got the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" special which was complex and boozy with rum, absinthe, and cachaca. Nice blend of fruit and sweet with alittle saltiness. I hadn't visited Japp's since it was renovated and the interior looked amazing. Maintained a cool, vintage vibe with plenty of space to enjoy drinks. Patio is also a nice space. Always willing to recommend Japp's for it's expertly crafted cocktails and cool environment. It's a Cincinnati staple. read more

Old fashioned style bar with much charm and atmosphere. It's a busy place at the usual evenings on the weekends. Catch the bar early and you get a better feeling for the old charm. Drinks are very good. Fun to sit at the bar and watch the crew mix traditional cocktails and new concoctions. I don't have a really long winded review, but more of a suggestion: Find the bartender with the beard (I should have gotten his name) and ask him to make you a TurquoiseJeep. It is quite easily the best cocktail I've ever had in my life. The depth of flavors, the balance, it was the perfect libation. This is a recipe of his own creation, so the other bartenders probably won't have the recipe. If/when I go back for this beverage, I'll make sure to get his name and update this review. I was out bar hopping with a group of friends and the great music pulled us in. This place plays great music and everyone was dancing. It might take you a couple of minutes to get a drink but no reason to be in a rush just dance away while you wait. I'm not ashamed to say that I fangirl pretty hard over Molly Wellmann. So when I finally had the opportunity to check out one of her places, I jumped at it.... and SHE WAS THERE! It's awesome to watch her behind the bar... she's such a master. This place is loud, that's for sure... but that's awesome. The music was blaring from the band up front, and the guests were having such a great time. People were dancing in the middle of the bar! After all my years of visiting OTR and hearing about Japp's, I finally came in for a night out with my friends. I love the vibe! Crafty cocktails, cool seating layout, plus there was no wait and no cover on a Saturday night, and it's in an ideal location for all of the bar-hopping you'll probably be doing in the area. The bartenders are very friendly and easy to get their attention. I didn't get to spend as much time here as I wanted to that night, so I'd definitely like to come back here and see what else they have to offer. read more

No silly, it's not a racial slur! Japp's is a family name, and the awesome owner Molly has worked really hard to preserve the historic character of the venue. Formerly a salon and wig shop, in the space you'll find an old styling chair she's in the process of restoring, tile floors, leather couches, gorgeous ceilings, wood floors, light fixtures, and signs advertising toupees and braids. There's a nice outdoor courtyard, and a projector available should you need it. We came for the after party of our friends wedding, where they had a nice space set up for a jazz band to play and allow family members to give speeches. The staff were all super sweet to us, and Molly herself is a delight to talk to. Definitely worth stopping in and great for events! read more

Went for the music, was turned off by the service. The tall bartender aggressively checked me from behind because I was standing too close to the edge of the bar and said I couldn't stand there. I had just ordered through another bartender and wasn't lingering, and there was no sign saying I couldn't be there for me to know any better. No apology or any sign of remorse. The drink the bartender I ordered through was delicious but we left soon after due to the aggressive employee. read more
