Ah thankfully Otto's was packed because it gave us an opportunity to try The Standard. Our waitress was very helpful and kind in explaining the menu to our group to new to Cincinatti area including what on Earth goetta is. We got the Breakfast tostada, Smoked brisket Benedict, Standard breakfast burger, nuggets and potato cakes, and a side of fruit and goetta. I will say sausage on its own is very harsh for me so I enjoyed the goetta. The tostada was on point, and really a remarkable way to use refried beans, as a spread. Everyone slopped up the Benedict, together. And that burger was gone in 4 minutes flat. Wow some of the best brunch food I've had in years. Have walked by this place but first time fining here. Nice space - was a garage at son's point but really works for a restaurant. Plenty of room indoors and out although we opted for'in'. Brunch offerings were varied and interesting. One friend had the burger, said it was perfect. Two of us had the brisket need it - would highly recommend. Another in our group had the breakfast tostada and said it was spicy, in a good way. Portion sizes are good. It'd been awhile since I'd been to The Standard when I dropped in for Sunday brunch during a walk with a friend. First, the aesthetic... love it. They maintained the vintage feel of the former car shop that previously inhabited the space. The wallpaper? Print design? In the bathroom pulled from that and may even picture one of the previous owners. Anyhoo. I started with a cold brew and ordered the Smoked Brisket Benedict but subbed out the brisket out for goetta. After arriving at my hotel at 4:00am (delayed flight, ugh), breakfast here was just what the doctor ordered. I'd made a 10:00am reservation but it definitely wasn't necessary as I was one of three parties there. Maybe it was because everyone was sleeping in after Halloween? Anyway, I heard the restaurant before I even saw it. The upbeat music pumping into the street elevated my mood and their decor outside set the tone. The decor is eclectic without being overwhelming. I was between the tostada and brisket Benedict, but they were out of the tostada so that made my decision easier! My food arrived quickly. The standard is a great option right out outside of the city. There is a garage parking nearby that is right across the street. We had no wait on Saturday night, no reservations needed. We are greeted upon a friendly worker, and our server was also friendly. The menu is very limited... That is the only reason I'm taking off a point. They had less than 10 options for food, which I was disappointed in because I often like a little more variety, especially when the menu doesn't really have the same common thing. Like there were just a bunch of random options. I got the I don't goetta chopped cheese, which was really good and I also tried a chicken tender, which was pretty good even though it was in the shape of a very small nugget not as a tender as advertised. They didn't even have the piña colada's even though it was on the menu. But maybe it was a blessing in disguise because I got some sort of blended coffee drink with Bailey's instead, which was delicious! Super cute place and I loved the vibe I would come again maybe on a fall night to be able to enjoy outside because we were originally placed outside, but then it started to pour! A good date night stop off, The Standard has a great unique little vibe. There are lawn games galore in the outdoor area, and the inside matched the fun and laid back atmosphere with a lot of quant decor dedicated to the old auto body shop that it once was. The service was friendly and laid back, with a friendly demeanor throughout. My only feedback would be that we were the only ones there and did have to wait a bit to get our check but otherwise it was great. The mixed drinks were fantastic, well balanced and smooth! I would probably give this place a 3.5, but the staff was friendly enough to put together a table for our party with small children and they were also just very accommodating overall. The place is hip and unassuming. It has games outside and I can see it being a fun place in the spring or summer. We came during brunch and got the standard burger, pulled pork hash bowl and kid's chicken nuggets with fruit. The burger was good but pricey considering it comes with no side. The hash was decent but not very memorable. I'm interested in their lunch sandwiches though so I'd be willing to give it another try. Parking is limited. read more

This was absolutely the tale of Jekyll and Hyde, but Jecyll kicked so much ass that I really don't care that Hyde wasn't very good. So the bad: I had the deviled eggs with Grippos potato chips crumbled over it, and they were not very good. The mix for the filling was just not a good one and clashed badly with the chips. I also had the chili. It too was not very good. It was almost as if it were trying to be sweet, chili and it absolutely shouldn't have been because it was a waste of decent shredded beef that was actually pretty tasty and very tender. Finally, I had the old fashioned, and it was just not good. They used a good base bourbon (not a rye) that should have been perfect for a sweeter old fashioned, but the bitters and sugary elements together just didn't work. Now for the good: The burger was AMAZING. It is a simple double smash burger with American cheese and thousand island dressing, but it was easily the closest thing to an In 'n Out burger this side of the east cost. It was perfect in every way. And like In 'n Out, I would go there just to order the burger (or two) and just forgoe everything else on the menu. I can say that I will absolutely be back again just to get another burger, even if I get nothing else with it. And I can also say that I would highly recommend the burger to anyone else without hesitation. read more

I've had some great evenings at The Standard involving dancing and Bourbon slushes and I'm looking forward to more of those. What I'm here to report now is that The Standard has one of the best happy hours going. It runs from 4-6 weeknights and ALL DAY Thursday. All the drinks but two are $5 and all the snacks are half off. I had a delicious Blackberry Mule and my husband ordered the Standard Old Fashioned. I totally recommend the Bourbon Slush, too, but a freshly made batch wasn't yet fully ready when we arrived. We each had an order of sliders (the three sliders easily equal a full-size burger and they are GOOD!) from the snacks menu and split very generous orders of fries and onion rings between us. Made for a fun and reasonable night out. Bonus -- doggies are welcome outside. read more

As an out of town visitor, I could not find a single place in downtown Covington that was open nor would allow me to use a restroom. After having walked for 20+ minutes, we happened upon an extremely kind gentlemen, hoping that he would point me in the right direction. Instead, he offered to let me use the one at his place of business, during non business hours. I know that this is not a common/standard practice, but I'm thankful for such a welcoming individual! Omg! Freaking amazing food. What a great find. They have some of the best chili I've had. It's so thick and full of brisket and pulled pork you can hardly put a spoon in it. The set-up of the restaurant is *really* cute, and the mix of indoor & outdoor seating with the expansive patio makes for an awesome setting to meet up with friends for brunch. And the menu! It looked really interesting online! But when we arrived, the options of the day were really uninspired, and the food left us underwhelmed. I am not sure what exactly I expected, but from pictures and other reviews I got the sense they were a little more adventurous with their offerings, but what we discovered was pretty poorly executed classic American fare. The Standard is a divey, fun, bar in a renovated garage/service station, just over the river from Cincinnati, in a town called Covington, Kentucky. I visited for a privately-booked happy hour, and the bar was open only to our party. I can only comment on drinks here, since I didn't have any food. I had two whiskey sours, which were made with local spirits. The drinks were reasonably priced, came out quickly, and the strength was just right. As I visited during the COVID-19 pandemic, I felt safe at the Standard. The garage doors were open so we had fresh air and there's outdoor seating. The Standard is a cute lil place that's perfect for an outdoor meal with friends. The building and door is vibrant and full of color which is a stark contrast to the bridge and train tracks directly above. My wife and I stopped by this place for the first time with a couple friends. Everyone got burgers except over of us they got a salad. The burgers were all really good if not great. The side dishes were all great. The salad however was a bit of a mixed bag though. The flavor was great and everything was fresh but the chicken did not look appetizing at all. How fun is this place! Burger Week brought us in, but I can't wait to go back. I'm a car junkie, so really appreciated all of the "car" stuff throughout the building. The history is cool and I'm glad they paid homage to it. The burger I had was delicious, too. We went on a Thursday and it was half price drinks all day, amazing! What a great addition to the Mainstrasse community! We came on a warm summer Friday evening with a small group of friends. Some of us ordered food, while some of us just stuck with drinks. The atmosphere is just so much fun. It is a converted service station with plenty of seating options- primarily outside with some inside options as well. We had 10 people show up for our 8 person brunch reservation and they were like, "no problem, we've got you in the party room". Our waiter was great and was on the spot with everything. The food was solid. Our table got some of everything. My wife's burger was kind of oddly small, but it tasted great. Everyone was very happy with their drinks and their food. I had long been anticipating a trip to The Standard as I watch the building being constructed over the past few months. I knew that The Standard came from the same folks who brought us Frida, and Larry's, so I was already a fan. I didn't have any food on this visit, so I cannot remark upon the food menu, but will definitely venture back to try some of the grub. We arrived and waited at the door (with masks) to be seated. We sat outside in the shade and enjoyed some drinks. The space is beautiful and the service was great. Our server kept our drinks full the whole time we were there, the beautiful weather made it difficult to not keep ordering another.
