This updated review is solely based on a doordash experiece - as I have been throwing those into the mix as the quality should match and people should know if it doesnt. I work about 15 minutes from this establishment so I am also taking that into account , I had the patty melt with chips and a side of ranch and bbq. The patty melt had super crispy bread - I was not a fan of this because it made the sandwich too hard to chew and bite into. The meat patty had a nice flavor and was seasoned well as well as the green onions. The chips tasted fine but could've used some seasoning or more salt - the ranch had a weird texture and tasted more like dill - I would not order it again! This spot makes me wish I still lived in the east end in Columbia Tusculum -- this is your ultimate local bar. It is extremely comfortable for hanging out, but also happens to have excellent food and part of a legit restaurant group that's still not too big. This group is able to provide quality food at reasonable bar prices, which is almost unheard of anymore. They are known for their chicken wings and rightfully so. They have an excellent selection of sauces and dry rub. Their burgers are made of quality meat from the infamous Avril Bleh & Sons. Crinkle cut fries are everything you want them to be -- ratio of potato to fried whilst perfectly crispy and fresh. Spoken like a true chunk! They also have gotten it right when it comes to drinks. They have interesting choices on tap and host amazing specials, like $10 pitchers of beer and half price wine night, etc. The service is friendly and efficient, and the renovated east end building was done right -- comfortable but retaining the historical feel. Interesting bar with a lot of people. Great place near the river that has space to hang out with friends. The best is in the summer/early fall to hang out on the deck, but the inside space has plenty of seating. The bartenders messed up our drink order and the food takes a bit of time but overall not a bad place to visit when you've got time. read more

First off, you need to know this is a bar First, restaurant second. What does that mean? Don't expect traditional table service or a vast menu. The other thing you need to know, regardless of being a bar first, the food is GREAT. We had a patty melt with fries and a Cobb salad. Super tasty and affordable. The place is clean. We had no issue with parking, but I suspect it could be an issue when they're very busy. You order at the bar and they bring the food to your table. We've been coming to Hi-Mark for a while now, they have the best patty melt in the city. The vibes are usually on point. It's in the East End which I love escaping to from OTR. It's been one of our faves. However, last night when we were there we had horrible service. We were sitting at the bar and only the woman working on the opposite side was actually going hard and doing her job. But she kept having to come over and tell the other bar tender and the two bar backs to stop standing around and talking. Or remind the bartender who was supposed to be taking care of us, to do so. I felt bad for her that she was the only one working hard and not being an amateur. My main problem and why I may not be coming back to Hi-Mark anymore, we sat there and watched this girl who was a bar back vape. Constantly. Vaping in a restaurant is prohibited by the Cincinnati board of health for customers let alone literally employees. Not only was she repeatedly vaping, she was doing it by the food pick up window. Putting that crap in the air, the food, the POS system, touching food people's food orders after touching her nasty vape. Repulsive. She also kept playing with her hair, running her hands through her hair. Touching her stomach in her basically crop top. Not washing her hands afterwards. Our bartender also used the back of her hand to wipe snot off her nose then proceeded to make multiple drinks. I'm going through chemo right now. My immune system is shit, my tastebuds are questionable, my appetite is none existent. Sad one of the favorite things I actually craved won't be an option for me anymore. Very disappointed. One of my favorite spots in Cincinnati. Staff are great. Draft selection changes often and is well curated, with great mainstays. I've been working my way through the food menu and have yet to find something I don't like. Standouts are the chili and the crinkle cut fries, but you can't lose. Lots of vegetarian options too. The space is cool. Open and interesting, while still feeling cozy. Bar is comfortable. Games in the basement if that's your thing. TVs everywhere. Patio is great too. read more

Came here with some friend's service was okay, the staff wasn't that friendly. We ordered some buffalo chicken wings and my guest had ordered a pretzel which they said was super hard and unflavored. As more and more people came in it got super loud I couldn't even hear myself talk, but it was cool for the night . It was clean and a good atmosphere. Agin it was just okay, I wish the staff was a little bit more friendly but it's okay. If you are ever in the area stop in and watch some games and hang out with friends! We were looking for somewhere different and decided we'd try a place on Riverside Drive /Rt 52. You know, you drive along the river in the East Side of Cinci and pass several little bars and bbq joints dotted along the way. And you wonder "what's that place like? Who goes there? How'd they find it?" So this was the night. It was a nice day/evening so plenty of people had the same idea. We found seating on the second floor by the window (tip: don't brush any crumbs off your table toward the window because there are tables down below ). We ordered the cauliflower app (pretty good!) and the pretzel (wheat? Not your usual white dough interior). For entrees we had wings, burger, melt and fried chicken sandwich. We had the crispy fries. They were all decent - we didn't have any complaints, except we wished the fries had been fresh and hot -- because they were pretty good lukewarm, so they must have been great when they were hot! There was a mixed crowd: groups just having beers, families having dinner. Outdoor patio was bustling and tables inside were all filled. Music playing. Order at the bar and they bring the food to you. Easy parking in the lot in back. So know we know: regular people go to these places and have burgers and beers. long story short: a bar with surprisingly good food. We went to Hi-Mark on a Saturday evening & it was packed. We found some seats up stairs & waited for our food; it took some time, but we enjoyed our drinks & didn't suffer from the wait. The entire place was highly decorated, but dim & a little dingy- but it is a bar after all. There's also a fee games, including pin ball, in the basement, which add an extra element of fun. We tried a couple of the specials- the fish & chips as well as the reuben with fried pickles. Everything was enjoyable; the fish & reuben were good, but nothing super special. The real stand outs were the fries, which are a rare example of crispy crinkle-cut fries, & their fry sauce. The fried pickles were a little disappointing, a bit lukewarm & a little burnt-tasting, but they definitely weren't too bad. That being said, Hi-Mark is a fun casual place to hang out with some drinks & food & we will be back again to try some other menu items. read more

If workers can't deliver quality customer service during "special" weeks I.e. wings week then they shouldn't participate! I've been here several times and never had an issue with any staff until today when the assumed manager (guy with laptop & large beard) decided to raise his voice when the server asked him how to add "all flats" to the order. He told the guy you cant make any adjustments and proceeded to raise his voice loudly and tell me as well as if I wasn't standing right beside him and didn't hear him the first time. He also proceeded to tell me I could pay full price for the wings and do whatever I wanted to them. Again rude for no reason because why would anyone pay an additional $6 just to make the adjustment- wasn't necessary and certainly wasn't warranted. It was my friends first time there and all stated they would not be returning due to his attitude and mistreatment. The wings & drinks overall were good. Also the loaded fries have doubled in price since Covid which sucks and beyond that we were charged full price for our drinks when Monday is stated as happy hour all day and the server confirmed our drinks would have the discount. I had a really upsetting experience at Hi-Mark on 6/2. First I had asked to swap out the chili cheese fries I paid extra for -- not a big deal, just a flavor I didn't like. When I asked for regular fries instead, the exchange was tight-lipped and awkward. The woman who took my plate just stood around looking confused, then asked in a puzzled tone, "What'd you want again?" No one explained anything, and I never said anything about it at the time -- just made a mental note. Things got much worse when we tried to return an appetizer we didn't enjoy. A man named John, who said he was the manager, got loud and defensive out of nowhere. When we calmly asked why he was raising his voice and treating us like we were doing something wrong, he just kept escalating -- yelling over us, saying things like "you're not getting anything for free" and "I don't care." Two women at the bar even spoke up and told him he should just give a refund, he refused. He accused us of already getting "free fries," which wasn't true... I paid for the upgrade and never got that money back. We were treated with total disrespect and asked to leave for simply speaking up. As Black women, the way we were treated amongst all other white patrons felt targeted and dismissive, and it left us feeling embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable. I've filed a complaint and hope to receive some answers. This kind of hostility toward paying customers is completely unacceptable. After our experience, I looked at other reviews and noticed several mentioning similar issues with staff behavior. It seems our experience wasn't an isolated incident. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes necessary changes. read more

On 6/2/24, my daughter, granddaughter, and I visited High Mark for the first time. I would first like to say we drove 30 minutes away from our home, which is fine--no biggie. I'm a foodie! And we love Eli's BBQ, and High Mark is right around the corner from Eli's, and they use their dry rub and sauce, so come on girls, let's try this place! Once entering the establishment, the feel was kinda off--not welcoming at all--and we stayed. I am a HUGE soft pretzel lover! LOVE beer cheese! I even make my own from scratch. So my taste buds know what they love! I inquired about the pretzel and was told it was a "big soft pretzel." It was not soft, and the beer cheese was horrible! Mind you, one of my FAVORITE restaurants--Cock and Bull and Ford's Garage--have amazing service and pretzels with beer cheese. I went to the bar with the uneaten pretzel, informing them that it wasn't what I expected and asked if it could be replaced or taken off of my bill, which was paid prior to receiving our food. John, the so-called manager, yelled in my face stating, "You just can't give food back if you don't like it!! That's not how this works. I'm not giving you anything for free!" I never asked for anything--for a simple apology would've sufficed. I asked for someone above him to speak to because I didn't understand the hostility or why I was being spoken to in such a disrespectful manner. John said that he was the higher-up! So I asked if he was the owner... smh, no, he was not. He pretended to call the owner with no avail. Then he escalated further, demanding me to leave, walking up on my child as if he were going to attack her. I have never in my 50+ years ever experienced such racial profiling, disrespect, and downright rudeness from a manager of any establishment. I will never go back! John needs a good sit-down with his higher-ups. We should've just gone to 50 West or The Precinct (Jeff Ruby's) or down on The Banks--anywhere but High Mark. Or better yet, Low Mark!!!! I am totally taken aback!!!! DON'T EAT HERE--especially if you are of color!!! If you are of color, you're only welcome to be in the back cooking for them, smh!!! I used to go a few years back for mostly take out when I worked in the area. Always loved the patty melt with fries. COVID ended that journey for me and now almost 4 years later, they popped up on DoorDash. We got the East end salad and the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. Best legit Nashville hot chicken in the area. The breading is perfect. The spice is a medium, but it works nicely. The fries though, y'all. They are not of this earth. They stay crispy no matter what. I'm currently eating the last of them no less than an hour after they were cooked and I still have audible crunch. The Hi-Mark never disappoints!! Went last night with a few friends for their Friday night fish fry. Not a fish fan myself, but they all said it was bomb.com. I opted for the burger and it was basic but still delicious! The french fries and fry sauce are a staple as well and a must get. You have to order everything at the bar, but they deliver your food to your table. I kind of like this set up because you can get service whenever you need it. We went on a Friday at about 6pm and it was busy, but not too bad! Our only complaint is that it was a little dark upstairs - hard to see the food and hard to see the steps. That's funny. The last time (and first time) I reviewed this place I dogged on the bloody Mary. And the only reason I'm back to update my review is because we visited again this past weekend and the bloody Mary was spot on. This time the service was meh. The bar was not crowded by a long shot and we kinda felt ignored when we got there. Once everyone had been waited on. Twice. The bar tender made his way over. From that point on, service was smooth.
