I had long been anticipating a trip to The Standard as I watch the building being constructed over the past few months. I knew that The Standard came from the same folks who brought us Frida, and Larry's, so I was already a fan. I didn't have any food on this visit, so I cannot remark upon the food menu, but will definitely venture back to try some of the grub. We arrived and waited at the door (with masks) to be seated. We sat outside in the shade and enjoyed some drinks. The space is beautiful and the service was great. Our server kept our drinks full the whole time we were there, the beautiful weather made it difficult to not keep ordering another. Social distancing practices were enforced and I didn't feel uncomfortable during my visit. Make sure to add The Standard to your list of must-try NKY bars! read more

Great ambience and repurposing of a previous garage. Love the open concept. Food was average, considering the other restaurants in Covington. We ordered the rye mule and hot rod as beverages to start. Apps wise we did the satay combo and fried sriracha tenders. House pickles were great. Chicken tenders were okay. Left something to be desired. The breading was a bit on the hard side compared to standard panko. The satay beef was well marinated. Satay chicken flavor wise left much to be desired. Could taste the ginger but necessitated being a vector for the aioli. Overall would come back for drinks and light apps. Would not eat dinner at this establishment. read more

Definitely not standard by the looks of it. Just driving by you can tell this place has a really nice aesthetic and curation. We went to grab drinks before dinner so this review is only based on that, we didn't try the food, although my in-laws did mention that the food menu didn't have anything they wanted to eat. They are a bit traditional and the food menu seems quite eccentric, but nice! The drink are STRONG. I got the bourbon slushee and the others got the Frozè. Both tasted heavily of alcohol, not necessarily in a bad way, but definitely potent. I like my drink Strong and this was perfect. Food bang for the buck! Overall I would definitely recommend people to check this place out based on the experience and the cool vibe of the outdoor space. I'll be watching to see how this places evolves as we (hopefully) get back to normal life. read more

As a person who spent 13 yrs in the restaurant business it's difficult to impress me with food and atmosphere. The Standard IS that restaurant. If you are familiar with the old Standard Oil service stations this place will feel familiar. The decor is amazing with old tires on a shelf above the bar; reminiscent of the old tire racks. The chandelier's are amazing. The food TOP NOTCH, a difficult food to make is an eggs Benedict and if you want to impress me then this is the meal, HOWEVER this is not your typical Eggs Benedict this one had brisket and WAS AMAZING, very juicy great flavor, eggs where poached to perfection. Also our group ordered French Toast which is WAY better then any chain breakfast restaurant. Chicken and Waffles BETTER then Taste of Belgium. Cool layout & space. Friendly service. The food though... no bueno. Wanted something not too heavy since we are about to walk everywhere for Blink fest - ordered some apps to split. Deviled eggs were possibly the tiniest eggs I've ever seen. Hopefully that means they are local or something. The grippos is a fun touch but not sure they are anything to write home about. Smoked wings unfortunately were also disappointing. The skin was crispy but the flavor was terrible. My girlfriend described them as "chemical" flavored and I agree. We didn't finish them. She got a cup of chili. We were hopeful, how can you eff up chili? Especially when it's got *brisket*. It was very room temp, basically on the verge of being cold. Fantastic food. The Banh Mi, shishito peppers, and crinkle cut fries were all flavorful, well-priced, and came out fast and fresh. Tried both the Froze and the Bourbon slush, and they do not skimp on the booze, but it didn't overwhelm the drink. Will definitely continue to visit this place. A new kind of cuisine for the area. WOW!!! Everything is just fantastic here. Beautiful decor and atmosphere, wonderful, fun service (our server was friendly and funny-- what a great guy!!), and the best food I've had in a while. Don't miss out on the pickle chips-- that standard sauce will blow your mind. The pickles are still juicy, hot, and the sauce compliments the acidity of the pickle perfectly. Ordered the chopped cheese and impossible burger-- no complaints on either. Can only speak on my chopped cheese: the brisket was tender and moist, the roll fluffy and yet well-toasted, and the fries were great too. Underwhelming drinks. Me and my friends went here for after dinner drinks and were sadly disappointed. We loved the vibe and the look of the place. There is a lot of road and train noise outside. We decided to try this place after looking at the menu online. When we got there we were greeted with a smile. My wife is on a strict diet and decided before we went that she wanted a burger lettuce wrapped to save on eating carbs. They told us they couldn't do lettuce wrap even though they clearly put lettuce on the burgers. Then she said she would like the gluten free bun listed as an option and they said they just sold the last one. Kinda disappointing as she basically was forced to either leave or just settle for something else. She ended up getting the nachos and then about 40 mins later was in the bathroom in pain and not feeling well. So I don't know if the cheese was bad or something. My hamburger was ok. Nothing special. I got the BBQ burger. The atmosphere of this place was cool and had cornhole, foosball and connect four outside and lots of car memorabilia from being an old auto mechanic garage. read more

They have an outside patio that is set up nicely. A little cold for now, but in the warmer months a good place to sit and enjoy. The Standard was an enthusiastic 5 star rating from me; however, on my last visit, to my horror, I discovered they have abandoned their previous kitchen philosophy and menu. The Standard started out with, in my opinion, a one Michelin Star menu with equally skilled execution. It was Korean/Japanese-inspired casual food that included Korean fried chicken, sliders made with bao instead of American buns, and a Tokyo burger, to name a few. The flavors were amazing, and delivered a unique experience. I sent many visitors to the area and friends to the Standard on the strength of that menu. And now, for the explanation of "however..."" The menu is now mundane. Its been changed to a ho-hum list that essentially transforms The Standard kitchen into a boring purveyor of burgers and fries and wings. This is stuff we can get anywhere. Anywhere in the nation. And it's all just OK. Sigh. The bar is still a real bar. The drinks are good - but gone is my favorite - The Hot Rod, an Asian spice-inspired savory gin cocktail. Also, they no longer carry New Riff Wild Gin. This is a Bellevue, KY distillery that is a couple of blocks away! How depressing! We all love the uniqueness that local products. deliver. This is a deadly misstep. I am hoping - really hoping - that the proprietors come to their senses and bag this indifferent food. The server told me they changed the menu because they felt they were not getting the traction they had hoped. So we finally re-visited this place to try their menu on September 1, 2021. We were really excited to try the Asian stuff we saw on the menu last time but turns out they completely changed their menu! I don't know if it's a regular thing or if they have different chefs from the town take turns but ok we said. I got the "deluxe fried chicken sandwich" and my wife got the "smoked brisket patty melt". The fried chicken sandwich was pitiful. The chicken was so measly, not crispy, and flavor-less, I've had better sandwiches at Chik-fil-a for much less than the $11 it cost here. The smoked brisket patty melt does actually taste as good as it sounds. Plenty of melty cheese with good brisket and pickled jalapenos for extra tang and kick. Good stuff. Came with some meh potato chips and a pickle. Pretty disappointed and won't be coming back for the food at the very least. read more

I came here with a few friends on a Friday night and we had a blast. I was visiting from out of town and had remembered the construction of it taking place on my last trip to Covington about a year prior. This had caused a good bit of build up for me and I was glad to arrive to find the place poppin. I really like what they ended up going with the space. It has a really cool vibe. I think my favorite part was the indoor/outdoor feel. The bartenders were friendly and the other patrons were fun too. I can't remember what drink I got but I did order a few rounds of tequila. The tires on the outside may need to be rethought as they catch water and could be a mosquito breeding ground-not an issue for us but they had a slight odor of stagnant water is rubber. Love this place! Very friendly and casual on a Sunday night (for trivia). I haven't tried the food, but I did appreciate the very ample indoor/outdoor space. In fact, the entire vibe is welcoming. The night we went, there were a variety of people sharing the space representing all ages groups, some single diners, some people with dogs, and a large group celebrating a birthday with a young baby. Overall, The Standard has a great aesthetic. I especially appreciate the way they incorporated the gas station into the design, tires above the bar, etc. This may become our regular! This place has a cool set up and great outdoor seating. I only had one drink mainly because it took about 30 minutes to get it midday. They were clearly understaffed which hopefully other times they will be able to do better. However, my main concern was that again i had to wait a long time for the bathroom (the only single bathroom) in an almost empty bar. I cannot imagine being here when it is the least bit crowded. I've been dying to visit since they opened & it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is very unique, airy and also cozy at the same time. Great industrial meets modern space! I've been there twice now for apps and cocktails both were amazing! The vibes were chill with outdoor picini tables, large Adirondack style lounge chairs, and outdoor games to play. They also host a flea market during brunch hours with a DJ every Saturday in the summer.
