Went to Walt's Hitching Post for our 20 year anniversary. We ordered the Tracy Jones Bone in Ribeye light medium with chimichurri. Twice baked potato. For an appetizer we had chicken livers and fried green tomatoes. The service was excellent as it always is. If you don't know about Walt's rye bread you are totally missing out. It's the best. Nothing like it. On our salad we had Walt's Tomato Garlic dressing. Once again it's the best. Walt's is the to go to place for a nice dinner.

Walt's was yummy and I'd definitely come back! Spaced properly so it wasn't too tight in there. Food was priced right in my opinion for what we got. All entrees came with a salad, rye bread, and a type of potatoes (fries, mashed, or upgrade to baked). The rye bread was soft and buttery, not hard, the Caesar was pretty good, fries great, and our steaks were nice. The flavor on mine wasn't my favorite. I got the two 4oz filets with crispy onions on top of potato cakes. Flavor of steak was interesting, and I should've gotten them medium rare because they were a little overdone in my opinion. However, all else was good. Server did forget our steaks topper at first but no worries, got it for us right away. Ambience was country and cool. I'd come back to try a burger!

I loved the history and the building which is why we picked Walt's. The ambiance and service was excellent. The food was okay. We started with the crabcake which I HIGHLY recommend! Next was the onion soup which was disappointing, very bland and was kind of like dishwater. The bone-in Ribeye was excellent and cooked to perfection! The Mac and Cheese was also very bland and not worth the money. I got the carrot cake for dessert which was lackluster. Overall the restaurant and service was great with okay food.

The bread is freaking amazing. The rest of the menu goes uphill from there.. Second visit to Walt's and it was just as good as my first go around. Can't go wrong with any steak here. Everything was really delicious. Only negative is that this place is always crowded and kinda loud.

Man, hate to write this. I've tried this so many times and just hasn't been good compared to the price point. Better than Outback but not almost ruby prices. Place is typically busy, I guess for the rye bread. Which is delicious!! Service was ok, nice waiter, back up guy didn't do much. They were busy this last time so I give extra points for that. Crab cake was super fishy. Cauliflower wings, on point. May be my favorite dish of night Steak over cooked but flavor pretty good. Green beans as well yum. Only east coast oysters that night so didn't try. I'll go back if my family wants to but wouldn't do it on my own.

Fantastic steaks. The oysters Rockefeller was amazing too. Our service was top notch. Will definitely be back.

So great! We had a little bit of everything; French onion soup, lobster, steaks, salad, scallops, and shrimp. Everything was so great! The bread they serve with dinner is salty and buttery but SO GOOD.

I visited with great anticipation, haven't treated myself for quite some time. The ambiance was amazing, felt like a nice supper club up in Wisconsin. The Manhattan was fabulous, as was the bartender. Ordered escargot, it was good, not the best I've had, but no complaints (loved the artichoke hearts in with the snails) Got a 10oz filet, with bernaise. My fatal error... I ordered it medium instead of my usual medium rare, wasn't feeling bloody. Well it was past medium (I didn't complain) , but still delicious. The rye bread was fabulous! Go for sure, but don't second guess yourself go Medium Rare!

Fuck this place. If i could rate this 0 stars I would. My friend took me here on my birthday in July. I have shellfish and nut allergies, and I made sure to tell my server immediately. We ordered Parmesan fries for an app. I told the server I don't need a side with my steak, we already have a lot of fries from earlier, and yet I was given a side of regular fries anyways. I ate 2 fries before the server ran back over and let me know at the LAST MINUTE that the regular fries were cooked in the same oil as the shellfish, but the parm fries were not. This could have been a catastrophic end to my birthday, thankfully it wasn't no thanks to the restaurant. No manager came to check on me, it almost seemed as though they were throwing our server under the bus as it was his SECOND day by himself. I asked if I could get a free dessert or something removed since, you know, I could have died on my birthday, and they didn't even do that. All we got was a very apologetic server. I told my mother and she called the restaurant immediately angrily. They lied and said they looked at the footage and I didn't eat any of the fries. Bullshit. Even if I only ate 1 fry that could have been enough to send me into anaphylactic shock. They then tried to offer me a measley gift card FOR MY LIFE. ALL MY LIFE IS WORTH A GIFT CARD, THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN SEND. We've reported them to the BBB. My friend isn't allowed to pick where we eat anymore. I took myself out to a much nicer restaurant (that I will not name) the week after my birthday and was treated to a heavily discounted meal, free personalized birthday dessert, spoke with the manager, and other pleasantries that I should have gotten at Walt's on the day of my damn birthday.

This is my dad's favorite restaurant so I was glad I finally got to try it. Had originally read no kids allowed but that policy has changed so we were able to bring the kids. Made reservations and our party of 6 was seated in a closed off room which was perfect with our 2 year old. The complimentary brown bread is hot and tasty, on the saltier side. Then my wife and I split the ribs + filet combo. We both got salads with ranch - delicious, and chose mashed potatoes. These were perfectly creamy. As for the mains, we ordered the filet medium and wish we had ordered medium rare. Their medium seems to lean more well done than rare so take note. The steak still had very good flavor though and I actually liked it better than the ribs. Good bbq sauce but I prefer fall off the bone. All in all it's a great establishment and I loved the inside decor as you feel like you're back in the 1950s or 60s. Service was outstanding, prompt, and friendly. Must stop when in the area.

Ask the Community - Walt's Hitching Post

Is this a good place for a rehearsal dinner for 50 people? Is there typically a selected menu?

Yes! We recently had my grandpas 80th birthday there and had about 50 guests and they work with you on a selected menu and have space for those types of events.

Are reservations recommended ? Going there around between 7:30 and 8

    Yes

Do they have a kids menu?

Yes. If I remember correctly they have a kids menu with some games on it (coloring, word search) and they'll give you crayons. It consists of simple stuff like mac n cheese, chicken, and fried shrimp.

When is the best time to enjoy and bring a friend to get hot off the smoker ribs?

So... We love the restaurant and the owners are making it better every year. The rye bred was perfect on our last visit. The service was excellent. The steaks and chicken…

Do they have any vegan options?

Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Hah! Ahhh-Hah! Hah! Hah!

Does Walt's still serve ribs? And are they any good? All reviews seem to be about steaks. They once had amazing ribs cooked in a "shack" adjacent to the parking lot. On our last visit they were dry and gamey as if cooked yesterday.

    They sure do!

We are greeted upon a friendly worker, and our server was also friendly. The menu is very limited... That is the only reason I'm taking off a point. They had less than 10 options for food, which I was disappointed in because I often like a little more variety, especially when the menu doesn't really have the same common thing. Like there were just a bunch of random options. I got the I don't goetta chopped cheese, which was really good and I also tried a chicken tender, which was pretty good even though it was in the shape of a very small nugget not as a tender as advertised. They didn't even have the piña colada's even though it was on the menu. But maybe it was a blessing in disguise because I got some sort of blended coffee drink with Bailey's instead, which was delicious! Super cute place and I loved the vibe I would come again maybe on a fall night to be able to enjoy outside because we were originally placed outside, but then it started to pour! I'm not gonna be racing back here anytime soon, but I'm glad I tried it.

I was there before the dinner rush, which explains the emptiness of the restaurant. More people started arriving after 5:00. There were so many yummy sounding choices on the menu that it was hard to decide. I asked my server, Erin, what she recommends and she said the CAJUN BOURBON FILET TIPS were her favorite. I went with that and was not disappointed. The filet was cooked and seasoned perfectly. It is served over mashed potatoes and topped with onion straws. While the beef portion was small, it was a satisfying meal and the flavors were perfection! I added a side Caesar salad. Their house-made croutons were so good and the dressing was tasty and perfectly portioned. I don't often order dessert, but decided to splurge tonight and got a slice of the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake to-go. OMG, this is one of the best cheesecakes I've ever had. It was light and dense at the same time, if that makes sense. So creamy and melt in your mouth delicious. I will dream about it tonight LOL.

There were a couple of instances where she actually touched our shoulders to nudge us to the side so she could reach through. Totally not okay during service at a restaurant nicer than a dive bar. We ordered the cheese sticks starter which were so yummy! Highly recommend! A couple of us ordered the Cesar side salad & were highly disappointed. The dressing tasted like it was mayonnaise heavy & then watered down by lettuce that wasn't dried after being rinsed. Even adding tons of extra pepper didn't help. The lettuce also tasted like it has been too wet for too long. The lobster mac was ordered in the group & it was tasty but soooo greasy. So, order with caution. We had the Black N Bleu salad in the group & that was good. The Atlantic Salmon was another dinner ordered & the crust seasoning was delicious! Sadly, the salmon was a bit overdone. It does come with a lobster cream sauce, which confused me. It was only so so & I definitely skipped it entirely. The steamed broccoli was done to perfection though. Not soggy & not too crunchy. We also had the 12oz ribeye & that was great! Flavorful, cooked perfectly! I will add though, that the steak knives need an upgrade.
