Had dinner here last night, our first time, and it was perfect. Our server was Jayne and she was awesome. She was super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The french onion soup was delicious and I was so happy they had it, as you can't find french onion anywhere! I had the 6oz filet MR and it was cooked just to my liking. Without having room, I still made some for their creme brûlée. Also verrrry tasty. To drink, I started with a traditional mule and ended with two of the seasonal margaritas with the mango habanero moonshine & it was soooo yummy. I can't wait to come back! How have I not reviewed Walt's? This institution went dark for a few years after the previous owners passed on, then was brought back to glory by the current team. Walt's is very difficult to compare to anything else. Their standard ribs are not overcooked. There is a pleasant bite to the ribs. Some people don't like them that way. I am one that does, and I appreciate that cooking ribs all day doesn't really make them better. They had a different prep on the menu this time, I'm sure in response to all the "fall-off-the-bone is the only way" folks. So you can get your bones more tender if you want now. All I'll say about that is I'm glad they kept the original prep. They do a great steak, though honestly in a great steakhouse town like Cincinnati, they are not my top pick for a steak. Onion straws are the bomb, Crab cake is amazing (seriously - try it), and the service is nearly always excellent. This tends to be a place that groups like to go to, and I appreciate how sometimes that can result in a bit of a pinch on service. Whoa - almost forgot about the salty rye and the blue cheese dressing with crumbles. Both amazing. (Not together, but if you sneak a dip of your dressing on your bread, I bet you won't be mad about it) Go in to relax, take your time and enjoy the evening. read more

Was a guest of a generous friend one evening and was served a special of 4 oz wagyu steak topped with crab cakes. We also had oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer. I drank two old fashioned's and we has a selection of desserts to finish the day meal. It was one of the most delicious, and memorable meals. Service was amazing! Ribeye and New York Strip were seasoned well, however not tender and lots of uneaten steak. Tables extremely close together, unfortunately next table had an irritating 9yr old. Historic vibe is a plus, so finally enjoyed ambiance when that table left. It was the holiday menu, so limited options. The service will bring us back to try something else on menu. We were here on a Wednesday evening few weeks before Christmas, arrived at 5:30pm, and get seated in time just beside the fireplace. It's a little warm when you stick your face right in front of the fireplace glass. The menu is extensive and alThough it's American but feels like it has some European flavor. We ordered snail and oyster as appetizers, both fresh and tender juicy. The snail is a bit salty but if u let it sit on the bread to rest a bit, it's not too salty. I had their evening special sea bass, husband had their Strip steak. Both are wonderful. I tasted husband's steak, I'm surprised how flavorful the steak turned out! No wonder they charge a fortune! Seabass plate is good, just a little too much oil at the bottom of the plate. We also had dessert with fried banana ice cream, very tasty, i highly recommend. Service is very prompt and great! This was my first visit and I came here for a birthday dinner. I enjoyed the option of the valet parking and the atmosphere of the restaurant. With our reservation, we were seated very quickly. I loved the Christmas décor through out the restaurant and various sections. Even had a fire going! I ordered the prime rib with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. It was so tender and delicious. Since I ordered the 14 oz, I was not able to eat it all that night and took it home. Reheated for lunch the next day was just as tasty! The staff were quite friendly and stopped by multiple times to refill our wine glasses with the bottle we purchased. Highly recommend! read more

I have lived in the Tri-state all my life and have never been to Walt's Hitching Post. So, when I got the invitation from my cousin, I figured, sounds good. I started with the wedge. It was ok, but the dressing was kind of a "Kraft-ish" bleu cheese. Ok, but had a sour note to it. Then I had the ribs with asparagus. The asparagus was warm, not hot. Aside from that, it was good. The ribs came out and looked good. They came with the sauce on the side. Since I am picky about my sauces I figured I would give it a taste first. I am glad I did. The sauce had a cinnamon-ish taste (along the lines of Wrigley's Big Red gum...weird). So, I ate the ribs dry and they were pretty decent. I finish with a piece of carrot cake (my kryptonite). That was quite good. So all in all, I waited 56 years to try it and it will likely be 56 more before I return. Just wasn't worth the $100 price tag. read more

Carry out is NOT the way to go!!! Third time in a row that multiple side items have been missing! Last time 3 salads were missing, including an a'la carte caesar. This time, missing the potatoes from 2 meals, one being an a'la carte charge. It's very frustrating to realize that multiple items are missing from the order as you're sitting down to eat. At $40+ per person, the minimal expectation is to receive what was ordered!!! Unfortunately, 4 of the past 5 orders have had at least 2 missing items! A wonderful place to get together with family and friends! Food was great! Serving sizes were huge, the best salted rye bread I ever tried, wonderful service! We have Tanya as our server tonight, she was very attentive, friendly and engaging. The ambiance was great- more into western saloon style, a little dark on the lighting, but bright enough to see your food and everything and everyone around you. I like this too since it provides you a romantic/ cozy feeling when you're in the restaurant. I made the reservation 4 weeks ago for a party of 4, then changed it to a party of 6, and finally a party of 8 which they were very accommodating and graceful about me calling and changing the nature of my RSVP. We were seated in our own cozy private room which I appreciated so much due to the current pandemic. I highly recommend this place, and we will definitely back here again. I won't give reviews on each of the food, but I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed. The restaurant also have an extensive wine list. So whatever you prefer, I think this place got it! The bread and tomato dressing were both very good - as good as hyped. The service was very good too. There are few healthy options, so I ordered the pork chop. Over-cooked, over-seasoned, bone dry, and tough to cut - even with a steak knife. Disappointing! read more

The food (ribs, filets, scallops, chicken livers) was mediocre at best. Our server, Joshua, did a fine job and really hustled to accommodate on a busy Sunday evening. The lobster mac and cheese and cowboy loaded potato were simply awful. Dried potato and scary chewy remnants of lobster in the mac and cheese. The rye bread was the only redeeming food but definitely not worth the trip and price of three dinners. This tired old landmark should have remained a memory. read more

I love coming to Walts with the family. Honestly, I enjoy coming here for steak more than Jeff Ruby's. I like the convenient location, the salted rye, and the good selection of entrees. Theres something for everyone. I feel like the quality of the steaks is similar to Ruby's for a little less in a price. I've lived in NKY all of my life and today was my first time trying Walts. We had a reservation for 7- and they sat us right on time. Decor was a little- eh- but honestly who cares? At first, our waitress seemed rushed and overwhelmed- and I think this may be the norm for Walts. Prior to going I had polled some people at work and the common theme was -"food was good- service is meh..." BUT our waitress turned out to be FABULOUS! We had: The burnt ends- pretty good. I'd order them with the sauce on the side next time. They were swimming in sauce- so if that's your thannnng then go for it. Wedge salads- just Meh- Ive had better for sure. 6oz filet with bleu cheese butter- excellent steak but I would skip the bleu cheese butter in the future. It was WAY too much (honestly probably 1 cup of it) and overpowered the steak even when I scraped practically all of it off. The blackened filet- this was served with jalapeño raviolis which were so good and I wish they were on the app menu. Walt, if you're reading this put them on your app menu. Onion straws- we ordered them as a side but next time I think we'll order those as an app. Annnnnnnd finally the bread- the breaddddd- I think I'm going to go to bed dreaming about it. It's salted rye- and while I may wake up at 2 am tonight needing a gallon of water- it was worth it. Tonight's food was 4 stars- but knowing what I know now- I think next time will be 5. Nothing beats Walt's over the years. Not stuffy like some other steak houses in the area. Inviting for those coming off of a motorcycle ride, celebrating a fancy evening, or just a single diner like myself looking for a stellar meal. The strip steak is the best steak choice in my opinion. As tender as a filet but 10x the flavor. The house made garlic dressing complements the salad like none other. The management is on top of their game and the servers all care about what they do. You have a chance at any time to run into a celeb or sports figure. Highly suggest not missing out on this treat. read more

For my birthday this year I had decided to go to Walt's instead of Ruby's Precinct or Lisse. I am glad we went here. !! A group of us had a wonderful evening here. Tried Escargot & Caviar for the first time. I had the best Old Fashion, they have an extensive wine list. Food was awesome. Our server Alex was amazing. :) I would say the service here was better than most Ruby's experiences I have had this year. Hope the next time I go to Walt's, Alex is working. First off, high compliments to the service from top to bottom. 6 stars for all the interactions with staff we had. The ambiance was great. Quick complaints are the mashed potatoes and bordelaise were cold. The Mac n cheese was a bit over cooked and mushy and the cheese sauce was runny and really didn't hit like a lot of other quality Mac n cheese you may have had. Same with the bisque. Just wasn't that creamy and really wouldn't recommend it. The chili was excellent and the flavor of the steak was very unique and delicious. The bananas foster was incredible. Billy's bar is run by the best bartenders in the area and usually has music. The place itself is an iconic NKY restaurant with lots of history. A great local spot for a nicer meal. We dined there with a larger group for a birthday. We called to make a reservation which I highly recommend, they were very busy on Saturday. Very cool feel inside the restaurant with live music when we were there. Our server Tucker was great - very knowledgeable of the menu and checked on us often. We split the filet and crab cake special and it was delicious. It came with a salad and potato. They split the plate ahead of time for us which was very nice. Normally excellent. Tonight was upsetting. Brought my family for their 1st time since we love Walts so much. Mix up in requested area to be seated. ok Our party of 7 seated in Cauthen room, nice as this is a private room. Apps & dinner wonderful except Tracy Jones Ribeye was excessively fatty (not normal). After we were finished with our entree. waitress asked "can I get you anything?" My mom asked for a dessert menu that's when she mentioned that the next reservation was waiting on our table. WOW. We were there 2 hrs on the dot at that moment. 40 mins of that was waiting on dinner. We felt bad for even thinking about staying for dessert. My mom asked if they had creme brûlée before ordering her meal (she loves brûlée & went lite on her entree in order to have room for dessert) so I said we were staying altho she was going to pass. There were 3 desserts & a bourbon ordered. Both creme brûlées were burnt, when we complained waitress said that's how it always looks. Mgr came to us as i requested, took my moms brûlée off bill & apologized defending the waitress being under pressure to turn the table twice. In essence the waitress asked us to leave. RUDE. Mgr didn't even say I hope you'll give us another chance. All ours bills totaled $600. I was totally embarrassed especially since my husband & I frequent Walts & wanted to share this fine dining with my family. My family enjoyed the meal, we enjoyed our time together, our bus person (Jacob) was wonderful. I think if Walts cared they would have offered a $25 gc to us to come back again. That $25 is only a drop in the bucket towards their prices so that would have been a good business practice. This is my 1st negative yelp review but feel this strongly about this visit. read more

Let's start with the Valet..... ummmm ok I'll just leave this absolutely ridiculous offering alone! It's nothing more than a local car show offering! Comical at best want to show off buy a cheap horse and win the derby!. So, my first experience here as I've heard amazing things! Well not bad not good. Black tie? They want you to think so! Flip flops are apparently ok. 3 for dinner 250.00 tab! We received the main before our salads! They also had a problem with replacing Silverware after each course. If you want to feel fancy with the lil ones go. Very friendly and accommodating. Heck you might see a local Karen or 3! If I could give No stars I would. Every year we make plans to celebrate our families birthdays dinners since 5 of us have birthdays from February to April. Each year it's someone turn to pics the place. We start to plan this in January. We Been trying to get reservations for a month for today to seat 11 people. Been told on the phone 3 times we can't do reservations for that many people. It's first come first serve. We show up at 5:00 when they open and are told rudely we can't sit that many people in a group. If they wasn't so rude about it. We would of sat at two different tables. You have tables of 10 and advertise you have private rooms. We went somewhere else that was glad to take our $500 +. read more
