I live in the neighborhood, it was 8pm on a Friday evening and I had been sick. Since I didn't feel up to preparing food I thought 'hey, I haven't been to Wally's in years, I'll pop in and get a quick something'. I got the 4 piece chicken finger basket. Blech :-( the chicken was not real chicken. Real chicken is not grey and rubbery. The french fries were good although to salty. I do have to disclose, I am a food snob i.e. I typically eat organic. Wally's burgers are good. Unfortunately they are very over priced for what you get. I felt the staff was the quality of what you get at McDonald's but the prices were closer to Chili's. The price of the burger compares to what the largest combo meal is at the highest price fast food restaurant and to add fries and a drink really drove up the price. This place has to be an elaborate practical joke. First off, any place that only offers mustard as the dressing for a burger is a sign of a trash restaurant. Then there is the weirdness of offering a burger with a hotdog on it, but not offering a double cheese burger. I presume this is intentional because of their indefensible prices. They honestly expect you to pay $5 for a small, basic, low-rent hamburger that you could get better at McDonald's for 1/3 the price. That's not a combo, mind you. That is just for the burger. God forbid you should want a soda because a small fountain drink is $4. I think this is part of a diabolical plan. I got a chicken tender basket that cost $10 and is easily one of the most disgusting things I have ever eaten. It was just a flavourless salt lick. I could only make it through two tenders before my mouth hurt from rapid desiccation. This must be why they're charging $4 for a small soda. You will absolutely need it to try and not have a heart-attack from the salt. I kind of suspect the french fries are just fried styrofoam caked in a thick layer of salt. That's the only crunch they have is you biting through actual salt. The toast was limp and tasteless and the gravy was just more flavourless salt. Wally's food should legally be a hate crime. Next we have their ambiance. Where to begin? First off, the place is a dump. It looks like nothings been done to the place since the '90s. The woman who took my order had an arm tattoo that was so bad it had to have been done in prison with a Bic pen. I can't believe I talked myself out of my hepatitis fears just to be assaulted by what they lyingly call food. Several employees were stuffing their faces at the front tables so they could carry on with the employees behind the counter. It is also one of the loudest places I've been in. If there were no customers in there, the kitchen noise would still be deafening. I think they're actually trying to make as much noise as they possibly can. The tables had a nice layer of film which usually means they've only ever been wiped down with a damp cloth and no cleaning product. Nice and sanitary, and absolutely in no way makes me even more sure I need to talk to my doctor about ribovarin. In summation, do not eat here. Don't even go inside. I need to call Homeland Security because I was just the victim of a terrorist attack by Wally's. If anyone ever tells you to eat here, they are not your friend and they hate you. read more

This place only gets business because of all the kids from Anderson Highschool that go there (the highschool i went to!). Usually people go to Subway or Torchy's Tacos (the best) but sometimes they wanna change it up so they go there. The food is overpriced and SUCKS. 3 chicken tenders is like 8 dollars...and they aren't even good. But as a highschool student, when I went with friends (after already figuring out the food sucks and is overpriced) I started to just get fries and a milkshake. And I will say, their milkshakes are really good. Also the staff is super friendly and even knows alot of the students. These 2 reasons are why this is not a one star rating, because on food and price alone it would for sure be one star. So for highschool kids this is a chill place to hang out with friends, but for anyone else, I wouldnt bother. read more

It was my first time dining there and all he did was rant and rave about this place. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. A BLAST FROM THE PAST THAT HITS THE SPOT!!! I haven't been to Wally's for at least a few years, as I don't live or work in this part of Austin anymore. After visiting a friend in the area the other night, I grabbed a burger and fries on the way home and WOW, was I pleasantly surprised. I had forgotten how consistently great their burgers and fries are. The patties are substantial and appear to be free of fillers and meat glue. Their buns stand up to the steam inside the packaging are not too sweet. Fries were fresh, hot, crisp, and dense, but still fluffy on the inside. They must change their oil often based on his light, clean, and crisp the fries always are. I've been back once sense to see if it was a fluke and it was not. Same consistent good quality and great execution. This is definitely a cut above a Wendy's, or Whataburger, which themselves are a cut above a sonic or carl's junior, which are a tier above a McDonald's or Burger King, both of which are basically inedible garbage. read more

I have worked by Wallys for the past 4 years, I have purchased lunch here often, their chicken strips are good but my favorite is their Crispy Chicken salad. It comes with sliced chicken strips, shredded cheese, tomato, and bacon pieces on bed of iceberg lettuce, and honey mustard dressing on side (this dressing is great) however I was jipped on the chicken today with my salad. There was not near as chicken as normal on it. Lets hope this was just a one time thing because if they deceased the amount of chicken they are putting on there then I will have to stop buying them....oh and by the way I dont get this salad because I think Im getting something healthy, I know its not, I get this salad because its just plain good. read more

Really good food and a very nice restaurant- I actually remember what it looked like before the remodel (back when you could sit next to mop buckets), so I really can't say enough nice things about how great it looks. The only issue is pricing- it's a bit more expensive than regular fast food places (by about two dollars, I would guess). That said, it's definitely worth the trip if you're in the area. read more

As a fast food restaurant, I was skeptical of the quality. However, I was pleasantly surprised how fresh everything was. I had a bacon cheeseburger combo, and found out both the patty and bacon are not frozen, but fresh. Made a huge difference in flavor. I also had their chicken tenders. Those were definitely the best tenders I've had in a long time. Fresh white meat chicken and the breading was good. My favorite was the country gravy. Overall, it is still fast food, but certainly a cut above most. read more

I have been going to Wally's for the past 10 years since starting a job at Mesa and Jollyville Road. I'm not sure I have ever had a burger there, and no one I know has ever raved about the burgers. But the thing we all can agree to is the Chicken strips are totally awesome! They are always hot and accompanied by the hot and somewhat crunchy fries. No limp potatoes here. They offer a 10% discount for military which I admire, and I have never had an issue with the staff who have always been friendly. While we visit Mr. Mayfield's various DQs fairly often for ice cream, the chicken strips is what makes me visit Wally's again and again. read more

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. Today I had a very poor experience with a Wally's employee named Daniel. After eating my Subway sandwich (I'm a vegetarian) and buying a Wally's burger for my sister, I sat down with her and a couple of friends to eat. When I was done, I placed all my trash in the Subway sandwich bag, then continued to talk/catch-up with everyone. Then Daniel walks over and says "We don't allow outside food, so you can either throw it away in the trash or go out on the porch." I am giving Wallys 4 stars for one very important reason. The Cherry Shake. I never was interested in even trying a cherry shake until a friend of mine kept asking me to go get one at Wally's. The large order of chicken strips (8 pieces) was almost twice as expensive as the 4 piece but had the same size fries (small). And to top it off, they forgot one of our drinks. I was in recently for the delicious chicken strips, yum, hand breaded, light and crispy. Imagine my surprise when I got home and opened the box! There were a handful of the nastiest, dried up chicken nuggets I have ever seen. It looked and tasted pitiful! I'm not sure what the breading was, but it was horrible. Looked straight out of the freezer. The cat wouldn't touch it and the dog spit it out. One single, limp piece of Texas toast and no fries at all. This would uhave been overpriced at $5. I called the manager to ask what happened and she explained that they had made these changes and that is the new chicken meal. I used to think the chicken strips were the best around, next time, McDonalds (5 stars compared to this). I try to support local business every time, but I expect a little love back. Delicious! I live and work nearby and have seen it everyday; main reason I never went was because I didn't have $$. I finally went in and ordered the double bacon burger. It was like $7 I think. So after I ordered, I filled up my Dr Pepper and before I could take a sip, my burger was ready. I would probably rank it in my top 5 fast food burgers (not sure of any order). Been going to Wally's occasionally since they opened. Something has changed there of late ... First the prices; got a kids meal and an adult burger meal with small milk shakes (50c extra each) and it came to $17 and change. The kids meal cost the same as an adult meal in most places. Taking out the extra 50c for the shakes, $16 is a lot of money for fast food for one adult and one kid. Second the burgers: very greasy, very few vegetables, what very little lettuce and tomato was there was wilted. The onions and pickles I ordered were not there. This place used to do a great job of putting fresh, crisp veggies on the burger, and plenty of them, which was why I liked their burgers. The quality of their meat was good too. Now it is just like any fast food place. Actually it tasted like school cafeteria food at its worst. As a result, I will not be going back there again. Third the milk shakes: they used to be great. They may still be great. But the one I got today was nauseatingly sweet, and at one point I crunched through what tasted like a clump of sugar or dried syrup. It was so bad I threw it away after two sips. Yuck. Fourth, quality of service: about the same as any other fast food place. It used to be much better. It felt like a new manager had taken over, raised prices, cut the quality and quantity of ingredients, and hired cheaper staff. Maybe that is the right thing for their business, I don't know, but it is the last time I will be eating there. Sad to see what used to be a very good burger joint descend to this level. read more
