I went there once before the remodel and now I have been to Wallys twice since the remodel. The food is the same from what I remember, but the atmosphere just doesn't feel quite right now. The one way entrance and exit that is separated is slightly annoying if you are sitting outside and want to come in for a refill, but I guess not that many people sit outside. Also the parking lot is tiny for the amount of seating that is inside. On to the food, the regular burger and frys are adequate, nothing special here, but nothing bad either. The fry size is large compared to some other places, so if you are into the fry belly go ahead. The Styrofoam cups kind of annoy me, but they are everywhere in this town. I really wish we could get rid of them and be a little less polluting. Now that I work very near here, I am sure I will be going more often, so expect a review update in the near future. read more

I have only been here twice, but I think their fries are among my favorite fast food fries already! Granted, I'm pretty picky with my papas fritas. As Sam would say, I like the "bendy ones". I also like them fairly thick cut (no shoestrings, please) and well salted. Wallys' serves them up just like that. Hot and delicious. As far as the chicken tenders that I've seen a few reviews raving over, I was not as impressed as other patrons seem to be. The chicken lacked seasoning, too me. The tenders were nice cuts, though, and the breading was crispy. But the pieces are small for what you shell out for the meal (around $7.5 for a combo, if I remember correctly). The dinner roll is nice and yeasty, but mine was cold, which totally kills it. I'm sure I will give this place another try at some point and maybe once I have sampled more of the menu, I'll make a more enthusiastic update to this review, but for now, it's just a "meh..." read more

WALLYS!!! I have had the pleasure of living down the street from wallys for 18 years. I went to Anderson, so it was close enough for lunch, too. I love Mo, the manager. Last time I was in town, I stopped by there and he gave us the managers discount and then offered me a free drink! The service is good, the food-- GREAT! I love the crispy chicken salad with honey mustard. I have known several friends that worked there over time. WE ALL LOVE THIS PLACE! Pretty decent burgers for a decent price. Good shakes. They remind me of Dairy Queen but faster. I enjoy this place and I've been a couple of times. I wouldn't make a special trip or anything. Twice I ordered a double and got home to find a single - especially annoying considering the price difference between the two. Stick to the chicken and don't expect the burgers to be made right. Wally's has great burgers and chili dogs. The problem is, that's really about all they have. I wish they had onion rings, especially since their fries have a really unique flavor I'm not that big a fan of. They're usually cold too. The Wally Bangers are a great frozen dessert similar to DQ's Blizzard. I like those a lot too. Not much else to say about Wally's other than it's a pretty good local burger joint that is fast and friendly at the drive through, which is where I'm getting my meal from them more than 90% of the time. read more

There comes a time in every American's life when they need to step away from McDonald's for a day and get a fast-food burger at a local joint. Cue Wally's Burger Express. Wally's is a real no-frills sort of fast-food diner. The drive through is fast also. Really, the burgers are no different than any other $3 eatery, but they quench the need for processed food. For $3.50, you get a nice 1/4 lb. slab of USDA grain-fed beef topped with 2 slices of genetically modified tomatoes, pesticide-laden pre-shredded lettuce, a nice slice of American grade-A processed cheese food, and some imported-from-Mexico onion pieces. The fries not so much, the fries are just okay, so when ordering a burger or Dog, I skip the Combo with fries and order a shake. The shakes are heavenly. I love the Pina Colada shakes and the Creme de Menthe shakes! And the Butterscotch Shake is REALLY interesting! Great place! Fun, with fast friendly service. read more

I would describe this as a more expensive, a tad bit more fancy McDonald's burger experience. Quite a bit of a wait for our order. Clean establishment. If you want to pay a bit more for your McDonald's cheeseburger combo (even their fries are very much like McD's!), this is the place to go. Granted McD's doesn't provide jalapenos & Wally's cheese IS better, I would have to admit I was disappointed in my visit to Wally's. I waited 15 minutes for my burger (while everyone else got their burgers in less than 5 minutes & there's a DRIVE-THRU!), & that was definitely not a good start to my dining experience. As we ordered one of their WallyBangers, we were told they were better than the Blizzard--not so much. They weren't bad, but they weren't the best. I'd visit Wally's again if I'm in the mood for McD's burgers, but would go elsewhere for a delicious burger. read more

Wally's is ok. Most of the food is good but it's nothing special. The chicken strip basket is really good. The burgers are alright; I'm not really a fan of the super thin patties. The shakes are pretty good. The servers are usually nice. Most of the times I've been here the food takes slightly longer than I would expect to come out. If you're in the mood for fast food and you're in the area, Wally's is far better than something like McDonald's, but there are better restaurants around. read more

Tried this place for the first time today b/c I was in a hurry and very hungry. A friend had grown up in the area and had always said good things about the place. One of the few menu items I thought would fit my my low-calorie, low-fat diet was the grilled chicken wrap. I didn't have time to eat a big salad. The wrap included bacon, didn't expect that and the extra large size white flour tortilla without grilling or pan-frying the tortilla. Melted cheese was included. I couldn't tell what kind, it might have been grated american. It tasted like Velveeta. There seemed to be some smear of ranch dressing. The grilled chicken was seasoned well, a good flavor, not unlike Tyson Grilled chicken strips. It was a generous portion. All-in-all, nothing set the wrap apart from a grilled chicken wrap available at McDonald's and costs quite a bit more. Very clean place, fast and courteous service. They bring you your food and they clear your table promptly. Plastic utensils are used. Self-serve on the drinks. I was very tempted by the advertised Pumpkin shakes but resisted. Might be a great shake to try there. I saw a large group eating together there. read more

After a hour of bathing and grooming my two dogs across the street at Dirty Dog (see my other review), the tummy was in need of sustenance and a chance to get off my aching feet. Although I had frequented Wally's back in the mid-90's, we were unsure as to whether or not they were a dog-friendly establishment as they have an outdoor patio in the front. Since they remodeled the restaurant a few years ago, the patio is partially covered with ceramic tile. The manager was incredibly sweet and said it would be no problem for the pups to relax on the tile out front (there is a separate gated entrance for access w/o entering the restaurant itself). Before I chime in on the food, let me mention that the staff (from cashiers to manager) are extremely friendly and outgoing. In addition to permitting the dogs on the patio, the manager went above and beyond by coming out to our table with some dog treats, a plastic water dish, and a large Styrofoam cup for dispensing some cool H20 for the pups. I was also able to order our meal and request my milkshake be prepped later on after we had finished our burgers. Very willing to accommodate and help us feel welcome! As for the fare, I'd like to get the negative out of the way first. The reason for four instead of five stars simply stems from the price of the meals. A double meat burger combo (w/ bacon, cheese, and jalapenos) is just shy of $10. Unfortunately, all their combos begin at over $6 so if you are accustomed to Sonic, Wendy's, or DQ prices then be prepared to open your wallet a bit wider. The milkshakes are also a bit more expensive than what one would call the going rate; however, the flavors are made with actual fruit puree instead of powders or syrup flavorings. My banana milkshake had actual banana puree and was very creamy and the perfect end to the meal. The burger itself is comprised of a standard 1/4 lb. patty on a regular white bun and the same can be said of the fixings. The fries are of the shoestring variety (similar to Whataburger) and lightly salted. The items are prepared upon order and everything was the proper consistency and crispness (where applicable). The fountain drinks are self-serve and feature the standard Coca-Cola family of products. Separate sweet and unsweetened Lipton tea containers round out the beverage dispensers. Overall, I would say that much of my enthusiasm for Wally's is for its dog-friendly atmosphere and pleasant service. The food is adequate, yet pricey but I'm willing to overlook it for the occasional visit, post-doggie bath. read more

We have been long time patrons of Wally's. Today we were terribly disappointed with our visit. The floors were slicker than snot throughout the building, once you got passed the smell of mildew coming from the rug in the entry. The young lady in glasses working at the front counter is always very kind and does her job well. We applaud her for her good work ethic. The salad was all iceberg/white butt portion of lettuce, same on sandwiches. Chicken was rubbery and not golden at all. There were three employees utilizing the facility as a day care while they worked. I understand times are hard, but these children were screaming, yelling, shouting for their parents. Disturbing patrons, several of which chose to eat outside to escape the racquet of the daycare. A few of the employee children did sit off to the side on devices, waiting for their parents to get off work. Management seemed oblivious to the condition of the establishment. Needless to say we will not be returning any time soon and will also be discouraging family and friends. Out of concern for personal health. The floors should have been the first indication it was not going to be a good experience. Ps The shakes were good as always. read more

Someone usually comes around to ask if everything came out good, and often times they notice your done eating and offer to throw your trash away. I've been going to Wally's since 1990 and I've always enjoyed the food and service.. But... HERE COMES MY BIG BUT... I think Rico Suavee' behind the counter needs to listen to what the customers order, because my "to go" without cheese and pickle was NOT "to go" and had pickle and cheese... When I informed him it was "to go" he took it to the back and threw it in a small box so that NOW, as I type, I am also enjoying a Box O' Wally Free For All. I got the number 1 burger combo for $6.59. The burger and french fries were fine but nothing to write home about. The buns tasted like it had butter on it. My stomach felt a little queasy post-meal. They are famous for their shakes. They had unique shake flavors like butterscotch and vanilla. This restaurant was very clean and most of the tables are in booths. Typical clientele on a weekday lunch would be a middle-aged white guy dressed casually. I probably won't eat here again because the food seems overpriced. read more

So I grew up in Austin and have been going to Wally's for years. I went to high school right down the street and remember being a little ragamuffin rollin' down the block to get me a Wallybanger. I love everything about Wally's and I will drive out of my way to eat here. First off, the food is great. The burgers are awesome, the chicken fingers are delicious and the fries are my favorite, period. I'm not sure why they're so good, but they're thin, crispy and always fresh. That's the best part about Wally's - all of the food is always fresh. There's no way you're not gonna burn the daylights out of your mouth because you dive into your chicken fingers while they're piping. There are also Wallybangers. Rumor has it that my friend came up with the name, but that story has not been verified. Nonetheless, these things are a cup of heaven. They're like a blizzard or a mcflurry, but better because everything tastes real and you can get them really any way you want. My favorite is cherry - there's real fruit in it and it's so delicious! It's a shame that I'm usually too full or self-conscious after eating to get one! Finally there's the staff. Some of the staff has been there for at least a decade and everybody is always nice. I've never had a run-in with them, and if my order is messed up they fix it. Really the only time I can remember that even happening was when they made me a medium Wallybanger instead of a mini. This place is GREAT ! Since they remodeled this place some years ago, they have really turned it into a nice 'clean' hamburger, chicken strip and outstanding milk shake place. And, this place is ALWAYS spotless clean, which says a lot to me. Me and my family have been going to this place since the 90s, it's been around for a while and has been doing a great job forever. I met the owner one time and immediately recognized why the place is so successful, he is on top of his game, he's a great man it seems like. And a great grandfather, as he had a little girl with him which I presumed was his granddaughter. He was telling us about the milkshakes, and not once told us he was the owner, then went over to the counter and bought us a milk shake to try. Then, after prodding him, he confessed that he was the owner. It was SOOOOO nice. He didn't try to act like a big man, or anything, he was so modest and humble that it just felt good and nice. Great place, great food, and great people. Something that I told him was that a sign of good management, a good place to work, is when you have long lasting employees, employees that have been around for a while, and this place does, they have many of the same employees that I remember from many years back. Food is good but I witnessed something that's a little unsettling. I do food deliveries and picked up an order recently. I had to wait for a couple of minutes and in that time, I heard someone placing an order through the drive thru and a couple of workers complaining about the man making the order. I couldn't understand what was being ordered, but there was a man and a woman working who were outwardly complaining about the order and I heard it. I know it's not a professional job, but it was unprofessional to complain when guests were at the register. read more

Huge fan I must admit. Been eating here for many years. The burgers and desserts here are great, the staff is wonderful and polite, and the interior and bathrooms are always sparkling clean. The latest round of upgrades made to the drive through the other year really modernized things nicely. The deserts here are divine and the fries are always crispy. The old timey comfy seating booths are great for young and old alike. Not like the uncomfortable unpadded junk you find in chain stores, no sir real comfort right here. Ample parking in their own lot. If you have a group or a bus or RV there is a strip mall next door with even more parking for large vehicles. Going here is like going back in time to when people treated each other better and everyone had good manners. This place is an Austin original and locally owned which is a nice plus. Drive through staff are pretty darn accurate and they give my dog a biscuit treat if she's in the car with me which is a nice touch! Now sure now and then they gotta hire new help at the counter or in the kitchen and a mistake is made on rare occasion on my order. But they go the extra mile to make sure it's redone right and as quickly as possible with a sincere apology each and every time. It's rare but it is how they handle these rare errors that earned my respect and repeat business. Every person deserves a chance to begin their first job in food service and with the high school right up the street you should expect some fresh faces from time to time. read more

I used to live over by Wally's and my family of four went there regularly. I really miss it! I always got the chili cheese burger and loved it. After a long day of work craving a good burger I came across this place. walked in 1 minute till close just to ask if their drive through might have extended hours. What suprised me was how welcoming everyone was, there was not a shred of hesitation in the staff. Melissa makes an exceptional example of customer service.
