Panang is the sweetest of the curries--a combination of lemon grass, chilies, coriander, garlic, cumin, and peanut in a coconut cream, elevated with palm sugar, fish sauce, and shrimp paste. My dish was garnished in fresh Thai basil and julienned bell pepper. The Wagyu beef was pull-apart--that's no surprise! But honestly, even without the beef, this was the best Panang curry I've ever had. Look over the menu--there are so many popular South Asian food options. I'm going to try the "Larb" next time. Special thanks to "Piah" my waitress who plated the leftovers to take home to Sherrie. I said to Piah, "You forgot to charge me for the Kirin!" The furniture is light duty but reasonably new. I ordered Won Ton Soup, Chicken Larb (both traditional Thai entrées), and Green Tea. The Won Ton Soup was what the Chinese would call Wor Won Ton, meaning with other ingredients, in this case chicken breast, julienned carrots, romaine lettuce and diced green onion, all in a homemade chicken broth. Indeed the chicken broth was the highlight of the entrée. The won ton noodles had no filling--just noodles. It's the pork sausage that makes the dish, maybe with a shrimp or two, but nope--this was just a good chicken and vegetable soup. The Larb was recognizable as such, but lacked several classic ingredients one would expect--crispy garlic, lemon grass, lime, mint, and peanuts. It did have the crunch of roasted rice, and a hint of fish sauce, but not enough to bind the ground chicken. And the lettuce was served as a chopped salad with carrots, not as scoops for the Larb. Overall, the meal was good, but neither were probably signature entrées of the restaurant. Consequently, I thought the meal was overpriced. And it didn't help that they charged three dollars for hot tea with the meal--complementary anywhere else! I shall have to come back and try their curries for which they claim bragging rights. Otherwise , for this 1st visit it was a 3-star experience, (which is good, right?). I will add, that the two waitresses were excellent, very attentive.

Punjab, in the NW area of India, bordering Pakistan, is semi mountainous and part of the largest region of goats in the world, and other farm animals. Tandoori style cooking is famous and all of the meats are represented. But the cream based Masalas of Delhi, and the simmered Vindaloo dishes of the southwestern India coastline are featured also. The owners of India House, Manoj Kumar and his wife, Deepika Dhawan, opened their first restaurant here in Wenatchee in 2013. Since then, they've expanded toward the Spokane and Coeur d'Alene areas for a total of six locations. Theirs is an incredible success story, centering on dishes from all over India. Based on the quality of the food and breadth of traditions represented, India House rivals the finest Indian restaurants in Seattle. Walk in the door, and the high-class decor is a tip-off. I ate there today and was really impressed-- it is managed by experienced restaurateurs who appear to be doing everything right. The well-lit dining area has seating for 30: -7 tables of 4, and 1 table of 2. Tables can be slid together if needed. As well, the entry has a full length bench seat for patrons who are waiting for their take-out orders. Four suited-up workers in the kitchen prepare ingredients and assemble salads in a team effort--passing finished orders to the front counter through a portal. Orders taken at the front counter generate labels that identify salads in the order taken and served. Everything happens quickly and efficiently-- everything identified, nothing missing! You can point and order your favorite popular salad by name, or, you can design your own salad from an ingredient list (also on the back wall above the counter). The highest quality ingredients are served, real meats, blended sauces, and yes--"Crisp" vegetables! I had the Hispanic inspired "elote" (Street Corn) salad with diced chicken, cilantro, cotija cheese, lime juice, and a chipotle-caesar dressing on a bed of pickled onion and lettuce (con Tajín sobre todo!). Sherrie had the Cobb salad (see pics). We had to take both salads home, the portion sizes are huge. This, the original, has recently relocated from a block south on the other side of the same street (Mission Ave). The highlight of the two "Tortuga Locas" is their barbacoa beef (chopped beef in the Mexico City slow-roasted style), available in their street tacos, crispy tacos, and enchiladas. Also available are "micheladas" (Latin America's version of a Bloody Mary, using beer instead of vodka). Oh my, what a refreshing drink...almost twice the size of a 12oz beer, in a huge frosted mug! I ordered the "3 Tacos w/ Frijoles Charros" (see menu), and a Modelo light, before learning they have Micheladas. The new location is only a couple months old, but all the furnishings are in place, and a statue of Mexico's version of Charlie Tuna stands in the lobby. The restaurant has the feel of Olvera Street in Los Angeles in the 60s... I felt right at home! 5-Stars for Barbacoa street tacos... and a michelada!
