I discovered La Tortuga Loca #2 in Cashmere first, then followed up with this (the original) location, this week. True to form, both restaurants share the same menu exactly (except the front covers addresses). This, the original, has recently relocated from a block south on the other side of the same street (Mission Ave). The highlight of the two "Tortuga Locas" is their barbacoa beef (chopped beef in the Mexico City slow-roasted style), available in their street tacos, crispy tacos, and enchiladas. Also available are "micheladas" (Latin America's version of a Bloody Mary, using beer instead of vodka). Oh my, what a refreshing drink...almost twice the size of a 12oz beer, in a huge frosted mug! I ordered the "3 Tacos w/ Frijoles Charros" (see menu), and a Modelo light, before learning they have Micheladas. The new location is only a couple months old, but all the furnishings are in place, and a statue of Mexico's version of Charlie Tuna stands in the lobby. The restaurant has the feel of Olvera Street in Los Angeles in the 60s... I felt right at home! 5-Stars for Barbacoa street tacos... and a michelada! read more

This is for the location in Wenatchee. The venue is small, but with plenty of seating. The staff there are friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Our server answered some questions about the difference between the enchiladas and the flautas (fried tortilla, same toppings) I ordered the enchiladas with pollo, and asked for no onions. The plate was presented well, and the enchiladas were sauced, but not too much- and topped with fresh tomato, queso fresco, lettuce and crema. Perfect. Just like the ones I grew up with. My husband ordered the gordita with carne asada. He enjoyed the masa and how it is prepared with a layer of cheese and then filled with the meat, lettuce, tomato, crema and queso. He added nopales this time. We also ordered chips and salsa. They are not complimentary; but that's because they prepare them as your order them. The corn tortillas are fresh fried and served immediately, which means you get a warm, crispy chip to enjoy with fresh salsa. Worth every penny. Do it. And that drink, a mango margarita- blended is the perfect way to end a work day. Cold, sweet, spicy and delish. Salud! read more

Friendly waiter with pretty quick service. The prices are very good and reasonable. They do not offer complimentary chips and salsa which seemed a little odd since every other Mexican restaurant does. They also didn't have guacamole but they did have fresh avocados slices. My husband ordered the tacos and he liked them. I got the asada fries which were pretty good too. The flavor was good even though some of the carne asada seemed to be a small left over pieces and dry. The portion size was decent and I couldn't finish it. Twice in 2 days.....first day I had nachos. This was a pleasant surprise as it was homemade flour tortillas and Al pastor. This was so delicious day 2 carne asada fries and the loca torta. Could not pass by this place again. It's not near where we stay in Apple Country, but it's on the way home. Grabbed a big to-go order, knowing we'd enjoy it when we got back (2 1/2-hour drive). It's tricky to get to their location--regardless--it was worth the effort. They are not your hermano's tortas, Sonny Jim. They're a few dollars more than you may be used to, but they are massive. Let me put it this way....you'd crawl over glass for one at 2AM, after a slovenly night. Great job with street tacos and enchiladas ordered, as well. And their salsa rojo had such a nice, smokey kick that I'd pay for a pint of it right now if I could. Very nice Señor took care of us. Good place for Mexican food, many dishes to choice, few drinks, and clean room staff friendly

Being from Californiani was kinda hesitant on coming here because so far Mexican restaurants here I Wenatchee aren't that good but oh man I Loved their tortas! Definitely recommend. Worth every penny. We ordered tortuga loca and la tortuguita and they were huge! I didn't even finish mine. My kids got the quesadillas con jamón they loved them too! I loved their menu they have a top to choose from. Will definitely be coming here again. And that New menu layout is awesome great job to whoever did them. They sure know what they are doing. I really like the food but the waitress service was terrible I had ordered a torta with a certain meat and they brought me a torta with the wrong meat and I told her " hey this isn't what I ordered I ordered so and so meat" and she responded with "No this is what YOU told me YOU wanted" and then I said "umm no because I don't like this type of meat so why would I order that meat" and then she said " Fine but if you ever do this again we're going too charge you for both items" and then went on a rant on how I was going too be black listed basicallywe just ate and payed and never went back. Friendly service and deep fried ice cream that is EVERYTHING! Got the breaded steak torta and it comes with a pile of jalapeños on the side - so awesome! The torta was good. Not the best I've ever had, but that's because I'm partial to bread that's not as thick, and carne asada meat (not available here) and inclusion of shredded lettuce and more mayo in my torta. Looking at the menu, this restaurant clearly specializes in tortas. There is also a small menu of one kind of tacos, enchiladas and flautas - so something for everyone. There wasn't cabbage salad here (my latest obsession) but was given a recommendation for another restaurant that specializes in it (restaurant is called Ay Caramba). read more

The only place around here that I have encountered that sells tortas! They are amazing!! I tried the Cubana: milanesa, chorizo, ham, sausage, pork. With beans queso fresco, avocado tomatoe and chipotle mayo. It was delicious, to drink we had agua de fresa. It was sweet and delicious. my husband and I are definitely coming back we have found a jewel in wenatchee! We had passed by this place several times but to get to the restaurant is kinda tricky but totally worth it! Our server was Edwin, hes the son of the owners and his customer service is on point. Brought my family to eat here because we noticed it off the highway and all of us loved our food. We got tortas, tacos, churros, aguas frescas, jugos naturales...it was all very good. Their salsas were also delicious. The staff is extremely helpful and hardworking getting our food out and fast even though they only had one cook and the customers were steadily coming in during Sunday lunch. I think I have found my new favorite place in town! Granted, I didn't think much of it at first. It's in a bad location, kind of hard to get to and in a bad part of town. Wasn't sure what to expect. I was amazed! They have the best, most unique tortas around. They're huge too! The first time, I had to take half home, a rarity for me. So far I've had the Cuban and the Hawaiian. Left happy both times. The place is clean and quiet and the family that owns it are very friendly and inviting. I suggest giving this off the beaten path place a try. I just ate here for the first time last night and I was first impressed by the superb customer service. The menu is small, but adequate [although they will be expanding with breakfast items] and the torta loca I had was filling and had great flavor. Same with the huge coconut smoothie!
