Pretty outstanding dinner. Place is extremely trendy. Most people were in dresses, heels, and crop tops. However, I noticed the crowd on a Wednesday night was generally over 40. This is a place where you share plates, and my husband and I shared the below: Elote Cauliflower Carnitas empanada Smoked half-chicken Pasta Beer and dessert wine By the time we got to the pasta, we were stuffed and had to get it to go, so I'd say three apps and an entree are enough for two. However, I will say every bite was carefully crafted perfection. It's clear the chef puts a lot of thought into the dishes here. This place is right down the street from me and I finally got to try it last night.. definitely a new go to for me! The menu style is more tapas and meant for sharing, so we went with that concept and shared a bunch of food. White bean puree w/crispy short rib which was served with a warm tortilla - loved everything about this dish. It was light and not heavy at all which was a nice surprise for short rib. Romaine - our sever explained this as a spicy Mexican Caesar and that's exactly what it tasted like.. definitely my new favorite salad. Elote - great flavor and had a tiny kick. Always love me some elote! Gambas al Ajillo - sauteed shrimp served with noble bread. This had a decent kick to it (I can't handle too much spice but still love it) and was delicious with the bread. Duroc pork belly tacos - maybe my favorite dish of the night. Their homemade tortillas make it feel a little lighter.. so much flavor in the pork belly and definitely a must! Carnitas empanada - this was quite tasty but I wish it had more crunch on the outside. Adobo duroc pork chop - SO much flavor here.. sadly I was getting full so only had a little but but the pork was cooked to perfection and is a great dish for sharing. After all that, we ended with the banana bread for dessert and while it seems a little random, it was incredibly delicious. We started with drinks- some peach drink with an IPA, and a Paloma. Both great. Appetizer was the Karaage- a stacked chicken tender type food with amazing sauce. awesome, I almost licked the plate, until I remembered where I was Main course, Adobo Duroc Pork Chop, I gnawed on the bone like a dog. I'm gonna lick the plate, I don't care... Dessert is a banana bread Carmel Peanut butter Mousse. The banana bread was better than my wife's. She's gonna kill me for saying that, but it's true. The peanut butter mousse was so smooth and yummy, so dessert was a peanut butter and banana. If you know, you know. We ate on the patio. A very relaxing, chill place to eat. It was chilly outside, but their heaters made our dinner most comfortable. The restaurant was clean, modern, and inviting. Our tour guide was Sarah. What a cool place for drinks and food. Chill Latin vibe with a great gin cocktail Dos Copas! It's a perfect tang to a citrus-like creation. Try it! I had the mussels which were so buttery you forgot they were seafood! But don't be fooled it's the 6 pieces of bread you can't stop soaking up the jus! Just a quick update to my original review... Crazy how much the world has changed in just six weeks since then. Vecina is still five stars and operating during this time. You can call ahead or use their website to order and pre-pay and then when you go to pick up your food, they will bring it right to your car... We ordered some apps to go with dinner the other night, (Chips, Salsa and Guac, White Bean Puree, and Delicata Squash Salad). All were delicious as expected. Easily a top 5 restaurant in AZ! We were recommended by our neighbors to try Vecina. They have frequented this place +/- 5 visits and speak very highly of it. They were not wrong! We went for gold and had 7 courses...it's doable for 2 people but you gotta be hungry! I think 4-5 courses would have made for a more comfortable ride home, but we do not regret a single thing we ordered. Highlights include the karaage, ceviche, empanada and concha. Overview: Great food, a little pricey compared to similar spots in the valley. Packed with guests, very limited COVID precautions. Probably not worth going until there is a vaccine, because dining in seems to be part of the experience. I tried two items from here, the ceviche and the steak tacos. The tacos were great, and the ceviche was very yummy too. I am all for elevated dining, but I do think that for the cost ($50 for these two items) that the tacos could have maybe come with something else, beans, rice, something, but still for the price they are delicious. The ceviche came in at $20 which was a bit steep for the quality and portion, in my opinion somewhere around $15 might have been more appropriate. I'm focusing on the cost because for the same price or much less, the valley offers comparable quality options. As far as COVID precautions the only ones I saw were that the wait staff had masks on. I quickly popped in to pick up my order, but the place was stuffed to the gills with people. Pretty unsettling. It's unlikely I'll order from there again until the pandemic cools off a bit, just to avoid forcing employees to be exposed to so many people, and because the chance of employee illness rises with lots of dine-in-ers (and thus contaminated food does too). read more

What if I told you that there's a new neighbor on the block and he throws the best parties, have the best Latin inspired food, and offers an awesome cocktail and beer list?! Well, you're invited and everyone else got an invitation because on a Friday night, this place was packed! The bar area is open for walk ins and fortunately for us, we found two open seats because we didn't make reservations. All plates are made to share - tapas style. We started off with the Fingerling papas with green chorizo. We loved how crunchy and tasty they were. Next we ordered the Shrimp Aguachile with cucumber and plaintains. It was delicious, light, and flavorful. Our last dish, we ordered the Grilled Duroc Pork Chop. Hands down, the highlight of our dining experience! My hubby said it was the best pork chop he has ever eaten. I definitely agree! The flavors, the blackened char, the tenderness - it was just perfect. If you ever can't decide what to get, get this! Would definitely recommend making dinner reservations, as the restaurant is smaller in size. We ordered the ceviche and elote as our appetizers, the ceviche was delicious and the sauce/dressing for it was so tasty we could all drink it with a straw. I do wish they provided more then 4 tortilla chips to the dish, so that we could dip it in the extra sauce. I ordered the pork belly taco, it was really good, however the tortilla size was bigger then the amount of meat/filling provided. Didn't seem adequately sized up. Additionally, my two friends ordered mussels and both of their dishes arrived probably 10-15 minutes before my tacos did. It was strange for them to be half way done with their meal, before my meal even arrived. Server did not acknowledge the long wait, which was strange in my opinion. read more

Absolutely loved our time at Vecina! Our server, Elena, was amazing! So kind and helpful with recommendations. The food was great! We started with the Brussels sprout salad that was good but could use a little more flavor. We then had the fried chicken dish that was gluten free (!!) and worked so well with the sauce and the elote. Our main was the pork adobo, which had good flavor but the texture was a little off. We began with the white bean purée and crispy short ribs. With an herb salad, you get contrasting textures and flavors. A hit. We tried the delicata squash, farro, goat cheese, grilled radicchio, roasted beet salad. Wonderful. On to the ceviche, with grilled pineapple, and coconut milk. Delicious. Not as sweet as it sounds. We FINALLY made it in to this new neighborhood spot! My husband and I snuck away for happy hour on our bikes while our parents watched the baby and Vecina was a fab destination! I had their paloma margarita on happy hour. It was $10 on happy hour (a little expensive) but it is not your average paloma! It was delicious and made with love. We ordered their guacamole and salsa trio and loved loved all of the incredible flavors in each dip. We also split their shrimp aguachile and ohhhhhh my goodness, it was so dreamy!! I literally drank the sauce (with a spoon, ha!). We would love to come back for dinner. The bartender and everyone that we talked to were super friendly and passionate about this new local business. We review guacamole and margaritas as we travel around the United States. We enjoy each dip of a chip in the quac and the sip of a margarita with a bit of rim salt. We tried two types of margaritas. Both appear in a standard glass with a dash of salt nicely situated on one side of the glass. A slice of dried fruit sits pleasantly in the glass. The signature drink margarita has a spicy kick to it which encouraged us to savor the drink. The other margarita was without a kick, with the tequila and fresh lime taste coming through. I started with the regular and moved to the spice. Both were delicious. The guacamole was excellent. The presentation was in a hand-crafted bowl, with ideal pieces of avocado, onion, and cilantro. It was chilled and the consistency and flavor were ideal. The one improvement could be the chips, which broke off when dipped in the guacamole. I recommend the ambiance of the bar paired with a margarita or two and some guacamole. The fish tacos were incredible too! read more

It's been a while since my last food post, but yo, I had to share this one. I've been dying to try this place for a minute and.... It was absolute fire. Enough yapping, here's what was had. Chula Hiramasa Ceviche - Grilled Pineapple, Coconut Leche de Tigre with Tostadas. Amazing starter dish. Definitely worth ordering. Tacos de Suadero - Brisket Confit, Guajillo Chili, Salsa Crudo with Corn Tortillas. My favorite dish of the night. The first time I had Suadero was in Mexico City, Los Cocuyos to be exact and iykyk. But, these were some of the best tacos I've had in a while, super flavorful, brisket cooked perfect, amazing blend of salsas. Absolute fire. Must try if you go, trust me. Elote - Chorizo Butter, Lime Creme Fraiche and Toasted Chiles. This was good, but not great. But not bad at all haha. My least favorite dish of the night but still good. Give it a go. Ice Cream Stuffed Conchas - Passion Tea Ice Cream rolled in Brown Sugar and Corn Flakes, then deep fried and stuffed between two Conchas. Aaaaamaaaazing!! Stole the show tonight, heaven in every bite. A must try for me, I'm talking absolutely delicious. Damn. Go check it out for yourself, from what I ordered, there's no way you could be disappointed. Oh my... this is a great modern yet comfy spot! It has the most thoughtful Nuevo Latino food that we've had. We had a beautiful white bean dip with pork belly, lime and house made tortillas, we had roasted elote with a fresh green sauce, and we had shrimp in a spicy garlic sauce with grilled bread. And the spicy Mezcal margaritas were absolutely perfect. We asked for them with less simple syrup and they were perfect.
