This is a great new addition to the Coconut Grove restaurant scene. South Miami staple restaurant opens in A great area of the Grove. I think since covid hit in 2020] Akashi south miami stopped dinning in and dedicated all efforts to take out so since this is kind of their baby I was super excited to try Varsol by Akashi. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has an incredible sexy Miami vibe. With a full bar and sitting inside and out available it is great for any occasion. I also wanted to point out that service here was outstanding. I was a little put off by the fact that the kitchen runs super fast..... so fast that we were still ordering the main dishes when the miso soup and egg dropped miso arrived...... and while we were having the appetizers... main dishes arrived. (So make sure to let them know to pace themselves and give you some time). To me it is not a great thing to feel rushed at a restaurant. Other than that food was outstanding. The chirashi had lots of fish and everything was fresh. The spin on miso soup with egg dropped was very good... will definitely order that again. Cute place at Coconut Grove with a variety of sushi options. They do have happy hour from 4-6 for some appetizers and drinks. Gyozas were flavorful and crispy but the happy hour sushi rolls had room for improvement. You could tell were premade as the rice was thick and a bit dry, HOWEVER, the menu rolls were awesome, you could taste the freshness (there the difference). We went to celebrate a birthday and they let you bring the cake, also had a full table booked for over 10 people at the back of the restaurant very private and always attended by a waiter. Went here for lunch and would not recommend. 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant all of our stomachs hurt. 8 hours later we were throwing up, can't conclude from what dish. We chose this restaurant because it was a little cheaper than neighboring restaurants. The lunch ended up still being pricey for the food quality. They charged us $4.50 for one side of eel sauce and spicy mayo without warning us of this extra cost. I ordered a coke and it came in a can and was $4.75. Hello?? That is outrageous. The only good thing was the gyoza. The tuna Tara appetizer was off, the sauce on top tasted like expired spicy mayo it was inedible. The fried rice smelt like horse hay/guinea pig food. I have guinea pigs and I can confirm it smells identical. How can you mess up fried rice?? And I was forced to a 20% tip and our table was only 3 people. Do not recommend! read more

Terrible service - my daughter had a terrible experience. She has a gluten allergy and ordered Tara's tuna. She asked the waiter if it was gluten free and he assured her it was 100 percent gluten free. However it wasn't gluten free- she had an anaphylactic reaction and we had to take her to the ER. I called to speak to the manager next day to inform them of the gluten allergy and she had to be taken to the hospital. He was very rude and said the waiter told her it was not gluten free and she still chose to eat it. This is very unprofessional- no apologies Or empathy. Not just another sushi restaurant in the Grove. As a frequent patron of the Grove, I am personally excited to see the area boom especially after the Cocowalk facelift and so many solid restaurants opening up. However, I am very impressed with the decor and vibes (and architectural beauty) of Varsol by Akashi. This place is sophisticated and chic which makes it stand out as the perfect spot to go especially when you want to dress up (although not required) without having to leave the 33 (Grovite). (I don't miss the long valet lines at Epic hotel to get some fancy sushi when I can just go a few blocks to the Grove.) Sushi was extremely fresh. The tuna melted in my mouth. The South Miami roll was delicious and cut into perfect bite sizes. One thing I'm not a big fan of is cream cheese in my sushi rolls, but this roll was actually well- balanced and delicious so extra points for not offending my taste buds. I received excellent service, but keep in-mind that this place just opened so be kind and patient. Also, they are working on getting their liquor license so cocktails to come in the near future. I can't wait! Lastly, the dessert menu is nicely put together with a variety of items which earns bonus points with me. The Oreo tempura cheesecake is amazing and not too sweet. We stumbled upon this place on a Friday date night and it is really one of our new favorite spots!! The vibe is relaxed but elegant. The decor is minimalist and modern but also warm and inviting. The service is absolutely amazing! There's no wait for anything. The food is immaculate. We had the spicy octopus, the Brie roll, and the shrimp pop role. The spicy octopus was fresh and yummy. The Brie roll was insane. I don't love Brie, but this roll has been one of my favorite things I've ever had. It was so light and flavorful. The drinks were also very great. Even though they deserve all the business, it is a true gem that I selfishly want to stay low-key. I wish we asked for our waiter's name because he was really great. Brand new spot in the Grove! Varsol was a great experience. We had an awesome and very attentive wait staff. They say us outdoors which was great to really take in the Grove atmosphere. The food was delicious. A great starter was the miso soup and the pan fried gyoza. The teriyaki salmon and friend rice had a great crunchy texture with a soft inside that would melt in your mouth. Ambiance- there is outdoor and indoor seating which is great. I love that option. We sat inside in the back area. It was nice upon arrival but I felt the back dining area was a little sleepy. Super cute sushi place located in a great area to walk around in Miami. The sushi was delicious and there are some interesting rolls to choose from. The truffle roll was probably one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. I did not love the Brie roll but if you like cheese on your sushi it may the roll for you. Best sushi I've ever had, and let me tell you I have had lots. Quality is unparalleled; I recommend the Mariano. It absolutely blew my mind as I usually am not appealed by crab in my sushi. Pro tip: You cannot go wrong with getting at least one warm roll to contrast with a refreshing one. The atmosphere is also perfect. Their glass window ceiling/ roof allows a lot of natural lighting, which contrasts beautifully with their dark walls. Akashi sushi never disappoints! Delicious sushi, beautiful venue, and well-made craft cocktails now all in one place. The service is phenomenal and there's so many nice places to walk around to afterwards. I got my favorite, the Holt roll and also tried the California eel roll which was very delicious. They have a daily happy hour from 3 to 6 PM for both food and drinks. I also got to try their steamed pork gyoza and edamame from the happy hour menu, delish. Defffff coming back. read more

Kinda ridiculous. 3) the first time I went for happy hour (about 7ish months ago) I wanted to take some of my food in a to go box and they told me because it was happy hour, I couldn't. The other sushi place at the old cocowalk area had a 45 min wait on a Wednesday night so we opted to go to this one. No wait here and bar was empty. We took our seats at the bar an started with a bottle of unfiltered sake while we waited for our appetizers - sashimi. The place looked small from the outside but they have a long corridor that leads to more seating in the back. They had a video playing on the tv on a loop of fish being cut. Not very entertaining after the 3rd time. Aesthetically, the place was nice. The menu had too many sushi combinations with cream cheese - we're not a fan. I feel like the hype is more than actually what than it is. If you're in high school this is the place to be. As there are a bunch of kids trying to be cool and eat here. The service was mediocre, even though they had a bunch of people running around. It seemed like they were all chickens without a heads. Nothing was done smooth, such as ordering, placing the food down, getting the waiters attention, etc. The food was good, nothing crazy, just Akashi sushi which is normally good. It was a little of a let down as I thought it would be something more. My mistake as I expected more in the gables. Although I would not recommend this place if you're going on a romantic date or celebrating anything. I never write reviews but felt the need to. I ordered lunch to go - a basic green salad and a spicy tuna roll with avocado. They asked me if I wanted to rice on the inside or outside of the roll. I said however it normally is and then they charged me extra to put the rice on the outside. They charged me a "wrapping fee" (not sure what that is for) and I clicked "no tip" and they still charged me 5%.
