What an amazing meal. Dropped in for dinner and was so impressed. The roasted chicken is big enough to share. It's seasoned exceptionally well and comes with a side of tortillas. The enchiladas are also delicious. Again, a good size to share. We started off with some guac that was super solid. The space itself is really nice and has the perfect vibe for the Grove. Feels upscale while being super chill. Dress code is lax and it's about chilling and enjoying a great meal and maybe some adult beverages. So many things on the menu I want to try. I've been going to Koko since it opened, and until now I've always had great experiences. Unfortunately, my recent visit during the Mexico World Cup match was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a long time. Before going, we called the restaurant to ask if they would be showing the World Cup games, and we were told they would be showing all of them. Based on that, we expected a good viewing experience. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. There aren't enough TVs, many of the views are obstructed, and we actually had to move to the bar just to see part of the game. Even then, the music was so loud that we couldn't hear the match at all. When we asked the manager about it, he told us that ownership's instructions were to play music instead of the game's audio. That was especially surprising considering this is a Mexican-owned restaurant and the match was a Mexico World Cup game. The biggest disappointment, however, was the service. To be fair, the restaurant was only about half full, so this wasn't a situation where the staff was overwhelmed by a packed house or unusually heavy demand. I was there with two female friends. I ordered a martini while my friends simply asked for water. The bartender reacted as if asking for water was somehow an inconvenience. We weren't even served chips and salsa until we repeatedly waved down members of the staff and specifically requested them. The bartenders consistently ignored us. My friends waited nearly 20 minutes before anyone came back so they could order their martinis. We later ordered guacamole and the Leña skirt steak. The guacamole arrived promptly, but the steak never did. When we asked another bartender to check on it, he looked in the system and told us there was no food order entered at all. This was unbelievable because the original bartender had described the dish, asked how we wanted the steak cooked, and appeared to take the order. He simply never entered it. When we complained to the manager about the missing food, he told us the kitchen was already closed but that he would "make an exception" and have the steak prepared for us. That response really upset me because this wasn't us asking for special treatment--it was the restaurant trying to correct its own mistake. I told him to simply cancel the order. He then said not to worry because he wouldn't charge us for it, as if not charging for a meal would somehow make up for the experience we had just endured. I declined the offer, but he responded by saying he would bring it anyway and that if we didn't want it, we could just leave it there. To me, that response was even more dismissive and completely missed the point. Throughout the evening, the bartenders were inattentive, dismissive, and consistently rude. Their attitude completely overshadowed what had always been one of my favorite restaurants in Coconut Grove. By halftime, we had simply had enough. Instead of continuing what should have been a fun night, we decided to leave the restaurant and go home, where we watched the rest of the Mexico match in the comfort of my home. Sadly, that turned out to be the best part of the night. I'm writing this review because I know Koko is capable of much better. My previous visits have always been enjoyable, which made this experience even more disappointing. However, if you're planning to watch a World Cup match there, I would strongly recommend choosing another venue. While they may tell you they'll be showing the game, the viewing experience is poor, the game audio is replaced with loud music, and based on our visit, the service was, without question, the worst I've experienced there since the restaurant opened. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously because Koko has always been one of my favorite restaurants, and I'd like to be able to recommend it again. Unfortunately, after this experience, I simply can't. read more

We made reservations at Open Table & parked in a lot around the corner. There was a lot of construction in the area & Koko was a little hidden. Koko is among the natural tree canopy of Coconut Grove, the 6,000 sq ft indoor & outdoor restaurant & bar transported us to Mexico with its sophisticated and artistic design, cacti garden, and outdoor bar & terrace. The 170 seat restaurant & bar conveys a fun, lively & warm setting to enjoy our Mexican meal. The open view kitchen allowed us to watch the handcrafted tortilla baking & wall showcasing over 400 mezcales & tequilas. We sat outdoors in the magnificent cacti garden. We started with frozen margaritas, they were smoky, icy cold & refreshing. We opted to share a skirt steak taco platter, passing up the insects on the menu. The tacos came out in minutes before our margaritas. The skirt steak was lean, juicy, and so tender we could cut it with a fork. Our meal was absolutely excellent. YALL! OH. MY. ALLAH. I do not understand how I've waited so long to go to Koko and I am absolutely kicking myself for it. Everything was phenomenal. You walk in and you're instantly transported. The space is absolutely gorgeous and the service is absolutely phenomenal. If you go, ask for Brandy, she will definitely take care of you. And the food. I left ROLLING. We tried their Lunch Miami Spice menu and for $40 you get legit sized portions and a great thing they do is that if one person in your group is doing Miami spice, not everyone at the table has to do it. The Miami Spice lunch is 11-4 & dinner is 4-close. They have happy hour Monday through Friday 4-6PM and all their drinks and Mexican wines are half off. Another thing I loved is that they have home made salsas, they make their blue corn tortillas and chips in house AND they have insects on the menu! They have recommended pairings for all their dishes with their hundreds of tequilas and mezcals AND they can make any margarita skinny or spicy. You know I got it spicy. Koko is on the top of my list for favorite restaurants. Amazing every time, you can't go wrong with anything you order on the menu. From any of the cheesy queso fondido options to the fresh and crispy tostaditas de ceviche or guac, all you need to really decide is what type of mood you're in, ooey gooey or refreshing and light, or all of the above. Highly recommend the enmoladas de pollo and mole negro. I've also shared the A la leña plates and tacos. Make sure to make a reservation, restaurant is always pretty full. read more

WOW! I don't give 5 stars freely but KOKO certainly deserves it. We absolutely loved our experience there. We made a reservation easily on OpenTable, and requested an outdoor table. The friendly staff accommodated our wish to be sat at a specific table outside, and throughout the visit everyone was very nice. The table had incredibly comfortable chairs, and the entire outdoor patio area was really nice. The overall style and decor of the restaurant is outstanding. They have an outdoor bar that looks like a great place to hang out. We were quickly greeted by our server Marlon, who guided us through our choices of cocktails and food. He was on point with his recommendations. We had a couple of margaritas that were very refreshing, as well as a different take on an old-fashioned with tequila and Mezcal. We ordered the guacamole appetizer, and I probably could've eaten another two bowls of it! My husband and I were looking for a Saturday late lunch spot in the grove. Looked up spots on Yelp and found Koko had a variety of options on the menu for my plant-based diet. Upon arriving the decor and ambiance was very nice and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and sat us down right away. Our waiter answered a few of our questions and we went with his recommendations which didn't disappoint. It was delicious! My cauliflower pistachio mole was a very unique blend of flavors I had never experienced before. I really enjoyed it. The guacamole and chips were tasty and I loved that the chips were not fried and were made of organic blue corn. My husband enjoyed his Chilean seabass tacos. I love Koko. But on a recent visit I chose the ribeye and it's a very poor cut. First I was served a medium well when I had asked for a medium. Then when the second steak came, while it was properly cooked at a medium, it was clear there was zero marbling and it was far too lean. I get it, it's not a prime steak and they want to keep it at an affordable cost. But it's a terrible cut. Just get the skirt steak. read more

Koko gets a solid 4 stars from me. The vibe is honestly everything. It gives Tulum energy in the best way. Super cute, aesthetic, the whole thing. Service was 5 stars, no question. Our server did not miss a thing. She was on top of everything without being annoying, which I really appreciate. Food was good, no complaints there. Portions are definitely on the smaller side and a bit pricey, but at this point it's Miami so I can't even act surprised. The cucumber margarita though was SO good. Really nice Mexican restaurant in Coconut Grove. Everything here is very fresh and made from scratch. They really talked up their tortillas and they did not disappoint. They were blue corn and delicious. We ordered two of their special margaritas and at $18 they were just OK. We got a tamarind and a cucumber margarita neither one knocked my socks off. The food on the other hand did. The Elote appetizer was really good. I believe they must have a Peruvian influence here because they have a lot of ceviche plates and the corn here was the large kernels that you typically get in a Peruvian restaurant. It was really good. For the main course we got chicken flautas and Seabass tacos. Both were exceptional. The churro dessert was also exceptional. Service was on point and excellent. The decor and ambience were awesome and we had a really good time. Lunch for two was $140 with tip which is pricey but this place was definitely worth it. Next time I will try the ceviche. I've been to this restaurant twice and I really enjoy it. The food is so fresh and delicious. The tortillas are made out of blue corn, and they are so incredibly flavorful and delicate. Even my baby enjoys eating them. I love all of the different sauces, guacamole. Plus being a vegetarian I really truly appreciate the several vegetarian options. I feel like that's somewhat rare here in Miami so I really take notice and appreciate that. The environment and ambience of this restaurant is incredible, it's so peaceful and breezy. It's just a lovely and relaxing dining experience that was so enjoyable for us. The one thing I would definitely recommend for this restaurant is to get high chairs! I saw so many different kids eating with the families here, ranging from babies to toddlers, and they don't have highchairs, which means parents have to hold the kids in their laps or on their chairs. The place is very cozy and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The service was not particularly fast but there did seem to be a lot of workers all around. The queso fundido with chorizo was great and the tortillas were authentic and delicious. The dorados de pollo were nice and crunchy, for a Mexican I just didn't feel they came with enough salsa and I feel the guajillo sauce was not necessary. The tomatillo-chipotle quesadillas were good but nothing too special, the flavor was not completely there so they ended up feeling just mid. The enmoladas were good, the mole was delicious and the tortilla was great. My only comment with the mole is that the goat cheese didn't quite go with the dish. This is such a beautiful restaurant and I love the ambiance. I went for an early dinner and it was a pretty full house but the service was still great. Everyone was welcoming. We started off with the tetelas cinco de mayo which were so delicious. A gentle crisp on the tortilla and the cheese was so mild, buttery and mouth watering. For our cocktails we got the I also had to get the guac and they are served with crispy blue corn tortilla chips. The guac was okay but needed a little kick so I used some of the hot sauce they provided. My friend got the vuelve a la vida (which is a HUGE portion) escamoles de maguey which is ants eggs, butter and epazote on blue corn tortilla. She enjoyed it but I didn't try it. The service here wasn't the best. The gentleman that kept on coming around to check in wasn't really our server, I think he was the supervisor because when we got there he was at the front. It didn't seem that busy but our actual server seemed a bit busy. Maybe they were short staffed, who knows. Overall, the food was good. To start off we had the queso fundido with chorizo and it tasted very authentic. The chorizo had a great crispiness to it. As an entree I went with the shrimp tacos, instead of lettuce I substituted for soft tortillas and they were delicious. Lots of flavor with each bite. The order came with a total of 3 tacos and a tiny portion of rice, the rice was yummy. My friend had the watermelon salad and added chicken as the protein. She absolutely loved it, it was a good portion as well so she got to take some home. My other friend had the enchiladas and she enjoyed them as well. The only thing I didn't like was that the esquite was with choclos which is more of a Peruvian style imo. The flavor to them was good but I don't see it as your usual esquite due to the style of the corn. I ordered the "Figure it Out" cocktail which was okay, they remade it and it still was alright just a bit sour. It tasted like too much margarita mix. read more

I am advendurous, what can I say! I tried the ant salsa - which had a lovely low price, yet it was tiny and like a dipping sauce. The ants are shown as tiny black dots, like pepper. I would not have known this was an insect dish. I actually said to my friends this salsa comes with.... and then I remarked they forgot the other app. She then said that's it! and pointed to the tiny dip. The waiter confirmed this when I asked. This imo is a novelty, ie YOU TRIED INSECTS! Go you, go me!!! I tried the grasshoppers. I loved that I could see them, and that they looked like grasshoppers. Kind of gross and fascinating all at the same time. I was delightfully amused to see my friend recoil! ha ha. Worth going to the establishment alone! So back to the grasshoppers. They tasted extremely crisp and tasted like chips. There tacos were so - so. We enjoyed our food. I also recommend the mango margarita. These were a work of art - see my pictures, to be impressed. One is an alcoholic one (go me!) the other was the same and a virgin version, made especially for my friend. Service was very hit and miss.
