I went to Don Chepe's in Kendall for Cinco de Mayo and honestly, never again. The restaurant was completely overwhelmed and clearly not equipped to handle the amount of people they were trying to pack in there. They had seating inside a tent, music blasting from inside the restaurant speakers, plus another speaker outside, plus a DJ on top of that. The entire place was chaotic and so loud that you could barely even have a conversation. What made it even more disappointing was that this was supposed to be a Cinco de Mayo celebration at a Mexican restaurant, yet the entire time the DJ outside was mainly playing Cuban music. It honestly did not match the atmosphere at all. I eventually even asked the DJ if he could please play some Mexican music because it was Cinco de Mayo. I'm Mexican myself, and overall I did not enjoy the food, the music, or the atmosphere. Our waitress was terrible from the start. Every time we tried to order or ask for something, she acted like we were bothering her. The service overall was just awful. By the time our food finally arrived, we honestly didn't even want it anymore. I ordered the carne asada tacos and they were disappointing. The tortillas tasted undercooked, and the carne asada was tough and cold. Then came the worst part. My friend and I split the bill and noticed that a 20% gratuity had already been included. Somehow, the waitress still added another 20% tip on top of each of our bills when she charged our cards. When we questioned it, she acted confused and like she had no idea what happened. We asked to speak to a manager, and instead of calmly helping resolve the issue, he was loud and confrontational. Another friend in our group kept asking for a copy of her receipt, and the manager actually threatened to call the cops on her while refusing to provide it. At that point, it honestly made us question whether additional charges had also been added to her bill as well. Because everything was so disorganized, it took nearly another hour just to straighten out the bill situation. In the end, the waitress had to give me the extra tip amount back in cash. I understand restaurants get busy on Cinco de Mayo, but this went beyond "busy." It was chaotic, disorganized, unprofessional, and honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. Very disappointed. read more

Just WOW. 5 star service such a sweet and welcoming young lady named Claudia who provided kind and excellent service ... even walking in rather late night we were welcomed ! - The food was SCRUMPTIOUS, truly divine seasoning, preparation and presentation.. the meat was just perfect and such great quality ... you can even tell the free salsa is handmade and FRESH ! That kind of attention to detail really is so elevating - The ambiance was chill, the energy was both laid back and live ! Don Chepe's to be honest the food at this location was a little disappointing. I tried the chicken burrito and it's was full of rice, dry and the other ingredients inside were hard to find because it was so packed with rice. However the flavors were not bad tasting. My wife order a Mexican chicken soup and it was more of a dip than a soup. The portion size was excellent, but it definitely is something I dont recommend unless you eating it with some chips. It's was also full of small chucks of cheese which really was unenjoyable for her. Overall the experience was not all bad. The decor is very nice. The painting on the walls are very cool. I have seen this restaurant passing by and always wanted to try it. Today was the day. When I sat down, our waitress took our drink orders and brought the warm chips and salsa. Chips were kinda stale. Our table ordered a chicken chimichanga, beef burrito, kids chicken nuggets and half a rack of ribs. In addition, we ordered three horchatas and two passion fruit margaritas. The horchatas tasted okay. Tasted similar to watered oats, which is not how horchata is made. So, for $6/glass, I prefer to do my own authentic horchata. The first few times I came here were amazing, but I noticed since they opened their newest location this place has gone down hill. I always get the burrito- last visit they brought me the wrong meat filled burrito and took a long while to bring out the correct one. Today the rice in the burrito was hard, there was barely any meat inside and the extra chipotle sauce had not been added. The waitress seemed to be new, we asked for more chips and salsa- they never came. The draft beer was flat tasting. Then when the bill came I noticed the waitress charged us for 2 Mexican cokes when we got Coke Zero, when I asked her about it- she said well they are about the same price.... Which was not the answer I wanted to hear because I remember the can of soda being about $3.50 each and the Mexican coke (in a glass bottle) $5.00. Wanted to find something close to home and with outdoor seating since I had dogs in tow. First time here and was immediately greeted and seated. Given menus and few minutes to look it over. My Wife and I both ordered Margorotas which has double the tequila and was delicious. Started off with two appetizers guacamole and chips and queso. Both delicious as well. For the main mixta fajitas with corn tortillas, and it had so much food I had leftovers the next day for lunch and dinner. My Wife had barria tacos and it had so much meat she had left overs as well. Which is sad, because it was my first time here and I was rooting for this restaurant since I love Mexican. The experience is more Tex-Mex. So if you're looking for an authentic Mexican taco, this is probably not the spot for you. I wish this business well and I hope that they improve their flavor profiles. The guacamole, unfortunately when I went, wasn't good at all. The avocados were past their prime, and once they mixed in the onions and tomatoes or whatever they used at the time to make their guac, it tasted spoiled. Came here on a whim late in the evening. Overall the place is good. It serves up authentic mexican style food that is very tasty. I ended up getting the fajitas mixed with steak and chicken. It was a very large portion with leftovers for the next day. They also have a bunch of different tequilas and beers, but don't expect much on the whiskey or rum front. For whiskey I think they said they only had Jack and for rum, it was like two options. I would have liked to see a few more options, but I get it, I'm in a Mexican restaurant. Server was also good, and there was live music going on. To note, if there is live music going on, it is loud, like you can barely hear yourself think loud. So just go in there with those expectations. The only reason why I gave it a 4 star and not 5 was cause of price and communication. I think it's a bit expensive given its location and food being served. It's not a huge stretch but something to consider. Also my rum "drink" which was just Santa Teresa rum on the rocks cost $16. I got two and that is basically what the whole bottle costs. Not cool. On the communication front, I wish we would have been told that the chips and salsa that they automatically brought to the table were not complimentary. We ended up getting one more and had to pay for both. We have no problem paying for it, but we'd like to know it was a charge from the beginning, especially if you are brining them out without us asking. read more

For some reason, I was expecting this spot to be a small hole-in-the-wall but was actually a big, modern spot with tacos, burritos, fajitas and more! To start, they bring the table some chips and salsa. For appetizers we got the nachos and guacamole, with the nachos being one of our favorites. I feel like the chips could have been a bit more seasoned but I think that might just be me being a bit picky. We all got drinks, with most of us getting the frozen margaritas which can come in different flavors. I got the frozen mango marg and it was pretty refreshing after being out in the sun all morning. For food, I got the birria tacos. They weren't the best birria tacos I've ever had, and felt a bit lacking in flavor but they weren't bad! The service was okay, a bit slow, but it looked like only two servers were handling the Sunday lunch rush, so it was understandable. Went in for lunch during a weekday. We don't have much time so we were able to preorder our food over the phone. When we arrived, it was ready! Our server was very friendly and checked in on us frequently. There weren't many people at the restaurant at that time. The restaurant is also very nicely decorated. I ordered a chicken burrito which came with tortilla chips. It was delicious! It was also very filling so I took half back to work for the following day! I've got nothing but great things to say about this place. Atmosphere is great. Service was phenomenal and super friendly. Now the food was fresh, delicious and the portions were huge. We ordered the Queso Fundido to start and it was really good. The Birria consume was packed full of onions, cilantro and bits of meat! The tacos (3 to an order) where packed full of meat and cheese. We also ordered the Molcajete Al Don Chepe! This was the star of the evening! Packed full of Steak, Pork, chicken and shrimp over grilled onions with fresh quac, cheese and cilantro. First time customer and last. I love music but when I say the speaker volume of the restaurant exceeded possibly above the limit.... You are leaving with a headache. The service was absolutely terrible. After waiting 15 minutes being seated and given the complimentary chips, our server came after we had finished basically the tray and was had not even water to drink after. The food took over 45 minutes to come after we ordered. And it was a simple order at that. 3 orders of tacos and a burrito. Not even a refill of chips for our party to at least continue to wait. We asked the manager in the front to call our server, in which I saw he did tell her to come, and she never came by. We never saw her until after we finished our food and asked for the check.
