I dined in at Bakan for taco Tuesday. The tacos were $5 each and had a pretty good selection of options to choose from. They do not serve chips and salsa for the table. We originally ordered the tuna appetizer, but the restaurant was out of it. We ended up choosing the ceviche as a starter, and it was very light and fresh. We're unsure what type of fish it was, because the server didn't know lol. I ordered one spicy shrimp taco, one Mahi taco, and one skinny chicken taco. The Mahi taco was definitely my favorite and the most flavorful. The skinny taco was served on lettuce instead of a tortilla. I was a little underwhelmed on the tacos. I thought for the price they would be spectacular, but they were pretty average. I really wanted to try the lobster and chorizo tacos, but they were not included on the taco Tuesday menu. I will definitely make sure to try those the next time I come here! The service was fairly quick, aside from missing a taco from our order. They got the missing taco out to us within a few minutes, and they regularly came by to clear our plates. We dined on the patio, but I did go inside to use the restroom at one point. Highlights everything from watermelon salad, to ceviche and fish tacos. Duck tacos are nice. Churros with chocolate sauce are nicer. Soft corn tortillas are hand made so insist on those. Service was great but nothing that is overtly exceptional. They have an extensive collection of tequila and mezcal for those seeking a restaurant with such options. Their queso is excellent but this time I did the los esquites (corn) which was fresh and delicious. For entree I had the mole verde. The mole had a great flavor and the sea bass was perfectly flaky with a good sear. Their tortillas are freshly made and fantastic. The table gets two salsas, one more mild (red) and the other more spicy (green). I enjoy the heat and the green salsa was phenomenal. I also tried the duck enchiladas. The green salsa, which is certainly house-made, was phenomenal. It was a bit spicy, but the flavor was incredible. I ordered a three taco plate which came with beans and a little slaw. I got two short rib tacos and one shredded chicken taco that was off the menu. The short rib tacos blew me away. The meat was so flavorful and perfectly braised. The corn tortilla was beautifully fresh and, with a squeeze of lime juice, these tacos were heavenly. The shredded chicken taco was also good but less unique overall. I was able to come back to Bakan once more for a date night and to try their grilled items from their A La Lena menu. The service was amazing. My partner and I were seated right away since our reservation i was at 7:00 pm. The hostess was nice and she accommodated us right away. We were seated inside, and the decor is beautiful. The kitchen was also a semi open layout, so you can for sure smell the tasty food right away. I got the skirt steak, and oh my goodness it was delicious. It literally melts in your mouth. There was also a flaky sea salt on the table for you to season to your liking. I like how the steak is actually medium rare because I have been to places where the steak was not done correctly. It also came with fixings with the cheese stuffed poblano peppers, corn, guacamole and beans. My boyfriend got the short rib tacos. The tortillas were so nice and soft and complemented the flavors of the short rib. Our waitress checked on us and we were able to meet German, the store manager, making sure we were accommodated correctly. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very different from when I went for brunch. I love how you can bring your date or your grandma or whoever. It's a good place to have friends and family over. Came here for Cinco de Mayo for a nice Mexican classy meal. Unfortunately, the experience getting seated really soured the start of the night. We had a reservation for 9:00PM and arrived on time, but it seemed there was a crowd outside still waiting to be seated.we weren't seated until around 9:30 and would of be seated later if we hadn't ask to speak with the host once again to see when we were going to be seated . It was extremely crowded inside and very busy. While we understand popular places can get busy, the lack of organization and communication wasn't there . A reservation should be something that is guarantee a table within a reasonable time frame, not leave you lingering for over 30 minutes and wondering why is there a big delay. Thankfully, once we were finally seated in a busy corner, but we were glad to at least be seated. The food itself did justice for the review. Since it was late we ordered small plates started with the queso fundido con chorizo. Waiter took our orders for the drinks and later came to take orders for dinner we had the vuelve a la vida it was a shrimp cocktail served large margarita cup, the flavors were on point very flavorful and authentic . Everything was great so far when the waiter came to clear the table we tried to help and my husband's drink landed on his clothes, although it wasn't entirely his fault the situation was cleared but it was a bit of an embarrassment . No biggie . He later came to bring another round of the drink, we didn't want to make the night further sour . We later finished the night and asked for the bill, we noticed they charged us twice for the drink that was spilled and while we weren't going to complain the waiter themselves noticed and fixed it without us telling him which to me was a good action on his point. In the end, Baken is a vibey restaurant with good food and a lively atmosphere, but the way they manage reservations and guests seriously needs work. It's a place you want to love because food is made with class - and maybe on a less crowded night, vou could appreciate it.
