I came here to eat ramen as an article by the door indicated this was one of the best ramen in the city. I was seated as soon as I walked in. I ordered the shrimp gyozas and spicy miso ramen. The food was done fairly quickly. The shrimp gyozas were delicious. The spicy miso ramen was also very tasty. I'm not sure if it was the best in the city but definitely worth coming in for. Very good Ramen place in Coral Gables that specializes in Tonkotsu (Japanese style) Ramen - 20-hour pork bone broth with fresh noodles, chashu, soft-boiled egg, and nori. All the variations are really tasty! It's become our "go to" for Ramen. (Although they have other Asian dishes - Rice, Bao Buns, Gyoza, etc...). I went with my kids and they really liked their Curry Ramen. This time I had the "Black Dragon" Ramen (made with Black Garlic). If you love garlic dishes, this one's for you! This is a really good place. If you want some authentic tasting Ramen, I got their Ichimi Ramen with their housemaid noodles. It was as a creamy flavorful broth topped with mushrooms, scallions, and the best flavored egg. Everything tasted fresh. I'm really disappointed with the service I received at Ichimi. This used to be one of my favorite places, and I would come here all the time before I moved away. I recently came back expecting the same great experience, but unfortunately it was the complete opposite. The restaurant wasn't even busy there were only two tables occupied, including mine yet I constantly had to call the waitress over just to get a regular menu. Then I had to ask twice again for my homemade chili sauce. It felt like we were being completely ignored the entire time. What made it even more frustrating was seeing one waitress on her phone watching videos while another was sitting and eating instead of paying attention to customers. Meanwhile, we were struggling just to get basic service. The only positive thing I can say is that the ramen was still good, but good food alone doesn't make up for poor service. I understand places can get busy and mistakes happen, but there really was no excuse for the level of inattentiveness we experienced, especially when the restaurant was nearly empty. It always sucks walking into a restaurant where the workers are more lost the customers walking in. Everyone was doing everything yet absolutely nothing at the same time. My server was not focused at all when taking more order. Let alone, it took some time getting a server to take my order in the first place and when I say this place is tiny, I mean it. One skilled server can handle the entire restaurant with a host and maybe a couple of food runners. The ramen I ordered was very disappointing. I know there's a first for everything but I never thought I'd ever have to ask for salt because of ramen being BLAND. It sounds almost diabolical. Never once has that ever happened to me. The ramen was good and doesn't come overstuffed with too much extras, which is how I like it. The broth is the main draw for ramen and theirs was good. I prefer the home made thin noodle over the egg noodle when it comes to ramen. Egg noddles are better for Chinese style noodle soup. Moreover, I thought the gyoza and spicy fried chicken (like karage) were the real winning dishes. Both were really good. I've been here a couple times now. Hubby got a Ichimi Gyudon which was tasty but didn't evoke the flavors we missed from Japan. I got the Ichimi Ramen which was fine, but didn't have a lot of flavor. The gyoza looked good. In a place known for its Latin American cuisine we somehow found a gem in Ichimi, a ramen spot located in the posh Coral Gables neighborhood. The atmosphere feels very intimate and the service is quick and good. We ordered the scallion pancakes and pork gyoza as openers. They arrived quickly and warmly but their flavor was a bit lacking. The scallion pancakes in particular came with hoisin on it which wasn't bad but it did take away from the natural scallion flavor a bit. They were also served with a side of cream cheese which I found a bit odd. As for the gyoza it was soft and lacked a bit of flavor but wasn't necessarily bad, just a bit underwhelming. Moving onto the main dishes, our party ordered a number of dishes but we personally had the soul and black dragon ramens. The soul ramen was a light and buttery tonkotsu ramen with tender noodles that brought the whole dish together; it was very good. The black dragon ramen was also very good, albeit very very garlic. It has a deep flavor that feels bold so if that's not your thing then choose something else. An important thing to note is that these bowls were not only on the cheaper side but they were also very generous with their toppings which really is something we highly value. It is very rare to find a place that will give you a full egg and they did here. Not to mention the ramen came out very fast and everyone liked their ramen, and that's big praise from a family who eats a LOT of ramen. Ichimi was extremely impressive. From its quaint, unassuming atmosphere to its flavorful broth and generous toppings. We highly recommend stopping by here if you're in the Coral Gables area or Miami for that matter. I just went yesterday and apparently they have changed owners or management but the quality of the food is terrible now. It really is SUCH a shame what they have done to this place. Ichimi is currently my go to spot for decent Ramen! Today I got adventurous in trying some new Apps including the duck wings and the pork belly Bao buns! The duck wings took me by surprise but don't expect them to be as meaty. The bao buns were juicy but it would have been nice to not feel like it was just a mayo spread. Overall Apps were a solid B! Now for the ramen you can't ever go wrong with the ichimi ramen bowl to satisfy the craving. My guest tried the brisket rice bowl and it was very flavorful and large portion for two. I stopped by for lunch to try their steamed bao buns. The ambiance is casual and the staff is friendly, however, I wasn't greeted right away and had to go up to someone to ask for a table. Once I ordered, the food came quickly. I tried the shrimp bao. I was surprised when the shrimp came fried with a heavy amount of mayo packed into the bao bun. I was expecting fresh grilled shrimp, but I guess it was my fault for not asking how the shrimp was served. I probably wouldn't order the shrimp bao again. This is our first meal in Miami and we were absolutely disappointed. The two bowls of ramen were by far the worst we had ever had. We got the ichimi ramen and the spicy one. The broth is ok, but it is lukewarm. The toppings are all cold, like right out the fridge cold. The pork has no flavor at all, like it was just boiled in plain hot water. Actually, it tastes yucky because of how fatty it is. I gagged and had to trim off all the fat. The egg is pretty good but cold. Here comes the worst part - the noodle is way overcooked and mushy. What a sad experience I ordered take out and wrote specific instructions on the notes because I have a pork allergy. They disregarded my notes and did not sub the broth. Sadly when I called a lady picked up and asked if I wrote it in the notes which I did. She wasn't able to tell me which broth was which over the phone so someone else came to the phone who also didn't understand the allergy. They thought the put me on hold which they didn't to speak to a lady manager who speaks Spanish. Luckily for me I am fluent in Spanish myself so I understood everything the manager was saying. She is very unprofessional and insensitive she never answered the phone again while I heard them speaking back and forth and saying things such as oh well that's how it comes. Never did I get an apology or resolution they just left me there while they continue to speak in the subject and resolved nothing. I hope this lady manager learns the seriousness of allergies and is able to teach and couch her staff properly and informe them the seriousness of this.
