I happened to be in Coral Gables today and was in the mood for some sushi rolls. According to my phones GPS Kae was approximately 800 yards away with great reviews so I decided to try them out. I was prepared to order form the main menu as I thought the price point was pretty reasonable ,however the waitress encouraged me to try their lunch special: For $25 you gout your choice of 2 sushi rolls, 2 appetizers, and desert. For my appetizers, I decided to try the edamame and spring roll and for my rolls I chose the Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll and the Lobster Deluxe Roll. The special also came with a desert. I forgot what it was called but it was a soft/solid chocolate shell on the outside and chocolate ice cream on the inside. The food was delicious, tasty and fresh-- they give you the perfect amount of food--not too much not too little! My waitress was very pleasant and kind while she explained the different types of rolls they had. Keep in mind though if you order a sparkling water, it's served by the bottle and not the glass (although the menu says otherwise) This wasn't an issue for me personally but I thought it was worth mentioning. The ambiance was just beautiful! Very cozy and beautifully furnished. You can tell who ever decorated it put lots of thought into the small details. I ordered take out and I have to say that the portions are very small. A sushi roll is 1/2 the average size and not big enough to share. There weee issues with my order as door dash has the poke bowl ordering white rice or lettuce. When I called they didn't seem like they cared more about telling me that DoorDash is the problem. We were walking the Giralda Restaurant Row and decided to try Kae Sushi. Great decision! Seated immediately on a Sunday at 5:30 pm. We were greeted and seated with waters and menus in hand in under 5 minutes. Our server, Noe was knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. Our sushi was excellent, albeit slightly on the pricier side. We decided to go out for sushi to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and settled on Kae after walking around Giralda. As per usual we arrived shortly before they closed so we ordered everything as quickly as possible to not delay staff from closing up at 9. Service was great, super attentive and never made us feel rushed in the slightest. We started with the steamed pork gyoza and tuna tatake. The gyoza was exceptional, tuna tatake was different with a smoky flavor and subtle kick. I was looking forward to trying the sashimi roll only to find out they didn't have that anymore The rolls are tiny at only 5 pieces per roll, so we both ordered a giralda roll and my partner also had a volcano roll (food took a little while to come out and we finished the it by the time we realized we didn't get pics, sorry!). Rolls were good, but it was really difficult to appreciate the flavors beneath all of the eel sauce. My partner made a comment he felt like he'd taken a shot of eel sauce, and he was right. Given our proximity to Kae, I might be willing to try it again but my partner said he'd pass on it in the future. I ordered one roll of the salmon with passion fruit. One roll of salmon with guava. If you like sweet, it's a good mix and match. For dessert, I ordered a Nutella roll, which was good, but I want to try the Thai donuts next time. Prices are ok. The rolls I ordered are 5 pieces. Would have liked more. Love this place! The vibe, the location, the food, the service! The only thing I would say that wasn't great was the organization of the place. Even with reservations, there's a wait. We waited 10 minutes before getting our table. We got 2 Prosecco glasses that were refreshing with the Honey Shrimp and Seaweed Salad with Tuna. Absolutely delicious!! We also got The salmon sensation and the kae roll and they were both very tasty. We enjoyed the food as well as the atmosphere and the waiter was very friendly! It's a shame I forgot his name but he had tattoos on his arms and he was helping me with my Spanish and he gave us good recommendations! So when you think you are booking one restaurant and you get another (due to two sushi places in both nearly the same name), you don't have good expectations. And while this place didn't surprise me as a hidden gem, there were still plenty to like about it. The service was really great. They corrected an error, filled water glasses and were attentive and helpful. My dining mates enjoyed their roll, the dumplings were delish and the Argentine steak (more on this in a a sec) was as cooked perfectly. It wasn't perfect. The beef empanada came out half cold (second try was hot) and the stir fried dish with rice needed a bit more flavor. The menu is also a bit weird. Is it Asian? Argentine? The sushi selections are also a little weak. But I find myself thinking that it's good. Not my favorite but when you are expecting a different place, perhaps it's hard to recover. read more

Yelped local sushi spots in my area and I came across this place. I sat inside and the place is decorated nicely. Small and intimate seating inside but they do have outdoor seating! I tried the kae roll was very different than many rolls I've had in Miami. From what I believe is caramelized Shallots, it brought a very unique crunchy taste to this roll. To be honest I've been to some places and I was never really satisfied with the over flavor of the rolls but from the two rolls I ate here, everything tastes great. The ají sauce added the extra flavor The next roll was the nigiri rolls I never really go for rolls with crab but with all the fish and Avacado and everything else added it was really good. But the ponzu ginger sauce dressed on the plate made the flavor profile of this roll stand out and paired very well overall with this roll I was very pleased with the service and food. Kae Sushi shares a quaint city center in the middle of Coral Gables (at least, "middle" is relative to where I was). I started with the crispy rice tuna and felt immediate confusion over whether or not I had inadvertently popped a tomato risotto ball into my mount. Still not sure, but the crispy rice was fun. It was not the flavor profile I expected, and that was completely my fault. I had expectations and where expectations lie, true culinary artistry cannot flourish. From there I tried the Giralda...a bit too chalky for me. And then the Hamachi packed full of krab salad and topped with jalapeño. I had asked for a substitute on the asparagus, but that didn't happen. So, for me, this roll didn't hit the spot. Lastly, there was the Miami which may have been the most awful thing I've ever eaten at a sushi restaurant. As far as rolls go, this was not my cup of tea, BUT the staff was amazing, warm, and attentive. One of my favorite qualities about sitting at my table was watching the sense of family in the kitchen. I felt a little intrusive, but they didn't seem to mind. Everyone on the app said it was good and unique and I do find it unique but it wasn't my favorite. I didn't really taste the prosciutto and the combo of flavors just wasn't for me. The spicy crunch roll was delish and I love a good crunch. We also ordered pork gyoza and it was a nice starter. We definitely would've been hungry if we didn't have a little appetizer to start. Been here several times and each time the food and presentation are amazing:) The Toro Caviar was incredibly fresh. Shrimp Shumai and Crispy Tuna Rice are 10/10. If you are a fan of Lobster, which I mean who isn't, the Butter Lobster roll is a must! They leave the melted butter on the side for you to dip or pour over, delicious! Any roll you choose is going to be the next best thing you eat, as they can't do wrong! Miami and Kae Rolls are two of my favorites... All the rolls were underwhelming in flavor, the combinations sounded better on paper then in reality. This was the first time I had a spicy tuna roll that the tuna came in a chunk and not a purée form. The lobster deluxe roll came and I immediately noticed a black hair on it. They took it back to the kitchen to "get a fresh one" but the replacement came out so fast that made me believe it was the same exact roll and they just added more sauce on it. Dinner tasted great. Trio sashimi, chicken teriyaki, truffle tuna tartare, ceviche, spicy tuna roll - no complaints. The Thai donut presentation is like none I've ever seen beautiful. It was a donut tree, literally little branches with donuts on the end and you would pick you're doing it off the branch and dip it in condensed milk. Loved it! It was a Friday night and we were a table of six. Felt extremely rushed when it was time to go because they wanted to close the restaurant. It's ridiculous. There is only one bathroom and an employee decided to spend a good 20 minutes cleaning it while there are still two tables of patrons at the restaurant As good as the food is I do.
