Maybe Salty Flame is the PF Chang's of Brickell? Everything I ate seemed very franchise-produced. We ordered Salt & Pepper Calamari (best hot dish) 8/10 but much more tough than I've ever had. Korean Fried Chicken 0/10 tough, the sauce tasted like a thick Crystal Hot Sauce, and did I mention it was really tough? Picanha (medium-rare) 7/10 perfect temperature, but bland and it came with a side salad that was very generous but mostly cabbage and radish, very little greens 5/10. Salty Flame Fried Rice (rename it Everything but the Kitchen Sink kinda Rice) 0/10, there is, like the salad, more garnish and add-ins than rice!!?!! An Asian steakhouse with a signature rice dish that barely has rice!!!??? Come on . . . Chinese Broccoli 0/10, again, loaded with garnish, perhaps to make-up for the dull color and limp-ness. The salty flame is a hidden gem. I don't think there was anything we didn't like, but favorites were of course the steak and then the steak tartare and tacos were tied for second. Came in for a friend's birthday dinner. I had never heard of this place before but came in with an open mind. Upon first glance at the menu, i will say I found the appetizers to be interesting, and the mains to be pretty good too. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it was very tasty. There was lots of sauce and a good portion of vegetables and chicken. I also tried a friend's Korean fried chicken wings and those were really good. They were crunchy and the sauce was very flavorful. However, the main dishes don't come with a side and if you were to add something at simple as rice, it's an extra $10 which I found to be a little off putting. In terms of price, i found everything to be very expensive for not any apparent reason. The food was very good, and the restaurant itself is very upscale, but the portions aren't necessarily large for the entrees, and the appetizers are very expensive for the portion they serve. And again, the sides are simple and expensive as well. In terms of the taste of the food served here, I really liked the meal. The service was amazing and each bite I had was really flavorful and had a good ratio of veggies to proteins. However the price seems over priced for a good amount of the menu. For these reasons I don't see me coming back unless it's a big special celebration. read more

Went here on a Friday night so my in laws could have a nice dinner with my parents. The in laws have high standards for food....that being said everything was great. Our server was Ari. At first I felt like maybe she was tired/annoyed but her demeanor really changed through the night and we had a great time with her. We ordered sort of family style so we could try many things. The apps included steak tartar, hamachi tacos, calamari, shumai, and spicy tuna sando (everyone loved that). For entree we ordered 2 tomahawk steaks. Honestly they were fantastic and plenty for 8 people to share. They are pricey!!!! But delicious and for a nice dinner in miami, you're always gonna pay a premium. We paired this with the fried rice, potatoes, mushrooms, cheesy corn, and chinese broccoli. Everything was delicious. I cannot elaborate enough how good the food was. You do have to order a few sides as they are somewhat small. They had nice dinner/dance music playing that was not too loud. The former was definitely stronger & more unique if you ask me. The ambiance is super cute & the bartender was helpful without being overbearing. Tried their lunch special - lomo and picanha, a lily pad cocktail, mushrooms and dumplings. I was una le to drink the lily Lad bc it was so overly citrusy - not what I expect from a restaurant who is so cocktail focused (their decor has a big focus in the bar and cocktails). The salad was delicious, lomo was just alright and so was picanha, however the mushrooms were in a weird sauce that took away from the actual flavor. I sat at the bar for happy hour and had amazing service with the bartender giving me his menu tips to make decisions. As for the food I had a couple things. Below average spot, I wouldn't go back or recommend. We had dinner here in a large party (over 25 of us) and they got a number of the orders completely wrong. I feel for people in the service industry for larger parties normally but we were the only ones in the place. Additionally, I got the steak and asked for it medium rare, and mine didn't even had an ounce of pink to it. I asked a few others in the party who also got steaks and everyone's was over cooked. I guess this isn't a spot you go to for steak when you're looking to get it prepared properly. Look for other options if you want any sort of good service, or quality steak. While billed as a "steakhouse with Asian influence" I was excited to try this place as the menu had traditional Chinese dishes, flavors, and ingredients such as Szechuan chilis, Siu Mai, and Paigu. Overall the experience was good but disappointing. We came during happy hour which I recommend. The drinks are at a great price and there are "small bites" that make it easy to try several different appetizers. For drinks I had the Lychee pop and the lucky tsunami. I think the lychee pop was great with a good lychee flavor. The lucky tsunami has strong flavors of tequila so only order it if you like the tequila. Appetizers: edamame was great. The sauce that came with it was sublime and the edamame itself was well seasoned. The calamari was fantastic. The peppers and seasoning was excellent. The kimchi truffle fries were good as well but not a strong flavor of kimchi. Entrees: I had the genghis khan beef. The beef was perfectly tender and the vegetables were well cooked. The flavor was good but minimally Asian. The server sold this as "spicy" because of the Szechuan chili but I found that to be lacking in any spice or Szechuan flavor. I also tried the sweet and sour chicken and the salty flame fried rice. The sweet and sour chicken was good and the chicken was juicy. The salty flame fried rice was underseasoned and I personally thought the Chinese sausage could have been in larger pieces to better enjoy their unique flavor. Overall I would say that the experience was good but not great. Cocktails were excellent and the best bang for your buck is during happy hour. I felt that the "Asian influence" was lacking and could have been more bold. That being said, I did not try any of the steak options or the Siu Mai or Paigu. I do plan on making another visit to try some other dishes and give it another shot but I do feel that this only gets 4/5 stars for lack of authentic Asian flavors. Also, as a principle, I am against restaurants not including rice with main dishes. Let alone $6 for a small plate of rice. read more

The signage and decor let us know right away that this place was targeting an audience that wants to be seen as much as it sees. It did not disappoint. Our service was excellent and attentive. Every dish we tried was flavorful, innovative and simply made well. We started with the pork and shrimp dumplings and the pork spareribs. Both were excellent. I can't believe it was my first time trying out Salty flame. It's the cutest place with a very sexy date night type ambiance. My food experience this evening wasn't as top tier as I was expecting however. Leaning to like 3 1/2 stars. The crispy chicken bao buns were flavorful. But the chicken was a bit too chewy more so than crispy for my braces. My steak also came out initially more rare than medium. They browned it up a little more and it was pretty decent. Salty Flame is a cool spot! They have a live DJ playing house music, both indoor and outdoor seating and Asian inspired food options. I ordered a sushi roll and a side of baby bok choy. I opted for the roll - the fresh salmon was wrapped up in soy paper, rolled in rice and topped with yuzu sauce, sesame seeds and micro greens. This could easily be shared with a couple of other small dishes or eaten alone for a light meal. The bok choy was outstanding! It was stir fried and served with a light sesame oil dressing. Our table ordered the chocolate cake for dessert and, wow, it was a HUGE slice of cake. It was made for sharing. It had alternating layers of chocolate cake and chocolate mousse. Surprisingly, it was not too sweet or heavy but I'd definitely recommend ordering this dessert to share. We ordered coffee with dessert and that alone was $50+ so be prepared to splurge. The staff were friendly and pleasant. We did go on a Saturday night and it wasn't very busy (I'd say filled to a little less than half capacity) so it made for a low-key, relaxing dinner. I originally asked for a table inside but then asked to switch to outdoor seating when we arrived and the host was happy to accommodate us. She then had the audacity to ask if we wanted dessert. Meanwhile, she kept going back and forth attending to a table of seven while my friends and I were left waiting. Now the food and the menu were very underwhelming. The service however was pretty good. Michelle was amazing and very attentive. When we arrived the restaurant was pretty empty. The did have a prefixed menu that was $60 which included a 3 course meal. It wasn't bad at all. Even tho they had a 3 course meal, sides were extra. So the rice you see below was $6. All in all, beautiful restaurant. A bit pricey and a little limited. The steak was nicely seasoned but small. The side of rice which came on a platter confused me, and it was a little underdone to my liking, and the dumplings wrappers fell apart after taking a bite. Unfortunately, i ended up throwing up my entire meal once i left the restaurant. So i wasn't able to try the chocolate cake because it was unfortunately collateral damage (which i was sad about). Oh, Salty Flame, you're my new favorite. I was so impressed with this restaurant. Not only is the vibe amazing, the service, food and drinks are top notch. My favorite was the SF Fried Rice with shrimp. Not only did all the food come out expeditiously, it was still hot and sizzling, making it so fresh and giving us the full sensory culinary experience. After dinner we stayed for some dessert cocktails and to enjoy the musical stylings of a female DJ. I wish I wrote her name down because she is a badass DJ who was spinning some classic jams mixed with deep house. It was a fun and festive vibe, for sure. 10/10 highly recommend this restaurant. We came here on a whim, being in town for a work conference, I chose a trendy place with ratings that looked good. The place has such a trendy upbeat vibe. We started with the Coconut ceviche, which was light and refreshing with a citrus-y taste. Also had the dumplings.
