An Evening at Yamashiro I had the pleasure of dining at Yamashiro on Wednesday evening with my best friend, and from start to finish, the entire experience was exceptional. It was one of those evenings where every detail--from the food and cocktails to the atmosphere and hospitality--came together beautifully. We started with cocktails. I ordered the Downtown Abbey made with Ketel One Vodka, guava, gold lavender syrup, yuzu, and Prosecco. At $22, it was beautifully balanced--refreshing, elegant, and, most importantly, not overly sweet. The combination of guava, lavender, and yuzu gave it a lovely balance of fruit, floral notes, and acidity. My friend enjoyed a passion fruit margarita, which was equally delicious and a perfect way to begin the evening. For our first course, we ordered several dishes to share. The Katsu Tender Sando was absolutely incredible--easily one of the highlights of the meal. It was so flavorful and satisfying that I could have happily ordered another one. The Cucumber Tataki Salad was the perfect contrast: crisp, tangy, refreshing, and light. It brought a beautiful freshness to the table and helped balance some of the richer dishes. We also had the steamed edamame with truffle, which was such a simple dish elevated by the addition of truffle. It was a subtle but very nice touch and showed how a familiar ingredient can feel completely different with the right finishing element. For our second course, we shared a sashimi and nigiri platter, and the quality of the fish really stood out. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, delicate, and beautifully prepared. Each piece allowed the natural flavor and texture of the fish to shine without being overwhelmed by unnecessary additions. For our main course, we had the ribeye steak, which was rich, flavorful, and perfectly suited for sharing. But if I had to choose one absolute favorite from the savory courses, it would be the miso butter corn. The combination of sweet corn with the savory richness of miso butter was incredible. It was one of those dishes that sounds simple but ends up being something you keep thinking about after the meal. We finished dinner with a lava cake, which was the perfect indulgent ending to the meal. But the evening didn't end there. After dinner, we were invited to experience the new 400 Vinyls room, and honestly, this was one of my favorite parts of the entire night. The room has a completely different energy while still maintaining the sophistication of Yamashiro. The atmosphere feels elevated yet warm and homey, making it an incredibly comfortable place to settle in and enjoy the rest of the evening. And then came the dirty martini--possibly one of the best dirty martinis I've ever had. Made with Beluga Gold, it was beautifully executed and exactly the kind of cocktail you want to end an evening with. The music was another highlight. It was incredibly diverse, with something for everyone, and it created an atmosphere that felt lively without becoming overwhelming. The 400 Vinyls room is truly the kind of space where you can see yourself staying for "just one more drink" and suddenly realizing you've spent the rest of the night there. Overall, Yamashiro gave us much more than just a great dinner. It was a complete experience--from the food and cocktails to the setting, music, and transition into the 400 Vinyls room. It felt sophisticated without being pretentious, intimate without being too quiet, and energetic without losing its sense of elegance. I recently visited Yamashiro on a pretty busy night. Overall, the food was very good, and the cocktails were excellent. We especially enjoyed the yellowtail roll and the grilled octopus -- both were highlights of the meal. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. Considering the amount we spent, I expected a higher level of attentiveness. Our waiter was rarely around and seemed more focused on his other tables. I understand the restaurant was busy, but I still felt that our table could have received more attention. That being said, I would be willing to give Yamashiro another chance. The food and drinks were enjoyable, and hopefully this was simply an off night for our server. However, the service would definitely need to improve for me to have a more positive overall experience. read more

It's The Hungry Poet back at it y'all, and I must say, this was one of the most eclectic, sexy, fully satisfying food experiences of my life. It's intoxicating (and I don't drink!) When we entered there was nothing that could prepare me for the open roof-garden vibe. The dim lights and chill, ethereal music set the tone. Service and the food recommendations they made...spectacular. The service team was extremely knowledgeable about every dish. The dining pace is as such: order everything at once and they keep the items rolling out steadily. Dishes are made to share. But don't fight your table mates. The food is THAT good! The Katsu Sando is to die for. Maybe not die, but I might give a limb for it. Okay, a toe. It's disturbingly delicious and worth the price. I have to forget it exists or I'd crave it every day! All the sushi was uniquely flavored. Each roll was its own special treat for the palate, and had a flavor identity that was memorable and unlike anything I've ever tasted. The kimchi sauce that came with the goyza had a beautiful composition, not too spicy. That dessert was crazy flavorful and unlike any dessert I've ever eaten. Yamashiro is located in Downtown Miami and was a bit difficult to find at first, as it is located on the 9th floor in a building with no sign of the restaurant until you get to the 9th floor. I ended up parking in a nearby garage which costed me $27 for the 2.5 - 3 hours I was there. As soon as you check in for your reservation the service is wonderful. Everyone; the hosts, bussers, servers and managers, are very kind and attentive to the guests. Our server Bibi went above and beyond with excellent recommendations, and making sure to check in with us throughout the entire meal. She was very bubbly and knew a lot about the food and cocktail menus. We were seated at the front of the restaurant which was a bit more of a calm vibe, but once you walk into the main dining area it is very vibrant, lively and beautifully decorated. There is a DJ booth so I'm assuming they have events or live music at some points. There is also a dancer who comes around each table and adds to the ambiance. The music does get pretty loud so if you want an intimate setting, this may not be the place for you. The food was surprisingly good! I somewhat expected this because I've only heard good things, but there was a part of me that thought this would just be an over hyped Miami restaurant. There was only one dish we ordered that was not good, and the cocktail we chose may not be for everyone because it had a pickled ingredient that can feel a bit overpowering. A few other things to note are that some of the dishes are small, so to make sure you're ordering the right amount of food for your party. It's also important to know that the entire restaurant is outdoors. Although it is covered/sheltered, it's an open air concept and it can get very hot. They even let us go into their speakeasy to wait. While the speakeasy was super crowded and I would probably go on a off night like Wednesday or Thursday... It was still nice to experience what I can go to on another date. Located on the ninth floor of the Gale hotel, as soon as you walk in you're immersed into a completely different world. Our server, Chris, was extremely attentive and gave us amazing recommendations that all checked out. We tried the three kings which is three different types of Wagyu beef with different cuts with bone marrow and shiso chimichurri. The only downside was that because it was so busy they did run out of their most popular sushi rolls but in my eyes that just gives me a reason to come back. I went here twice, once with my parents and then for my boyfriend's birthday brunch for a party of 10. I could not recommend Yamashiro Miami enough for anyone looking to come here. Atmosphere: 10/10 - This restaurant easily has one of the most unique and beautiful venues I've ever been to. I sat outdoors both times during Sunday brunch and it gave great vibes. Food: 9.3/10 - I ordered the Denver steak and katsu sando both times that I went, highly recommend both. My steak was also cooked perfectly each visit. Must know before you go: the restaurant is located within the Gale hotel. There is no good signage at the bottom but if you park there you use the hotel valet. Parking is otherwise difficult. They are working on indoor seating as well that should be open soon but it is an OUTSIDE only restaurant as of now so during the summer months it can be hot! Otherwise the experience was amazing. The outdoor seating area is beautiful and transports you away from feeling like you are in downtown Miami. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. The cocktails were refreshing and well presented. I definitely would recommend Yamashiro Miami to anyone looking for an elegant fine dining experience. Not only was the food delicious, but the setting and ambiance were absolutely beautiful. I took my mom to Yamashiro for Mother's Day and honestly... the experience was giving "luxury sushi day with a side quest" First of all, the decor? BEAUTIFUL. The whole area leading up to the restaurant feels like a movie set. My mom is a full fashionista, so naturally we spent 37 business days taking pictures before even sitting down. Every corner is basically begging to be posted on Instagram. If you like a good photo moment, this place delivers. The ambience during the day was such a vibe too. Classy, upbeat, rooftop energy without trying too hard. It felt like a sophisticated little daytime party. Now let's address the tiny ants in the room. Unfortunately, because it's an indoor/outdoor rooftop-style establishment, there was a pretty noticeable ant situation at our original table. My mom actually got bitten on the leg by one little ant who clearly thought he had Mother's Day reservations too. BUT... this is where the staff absolutely shined. The daytime manager was AMAZING. So accommodating, sweet, attentive, and genuinely concerned about making sure my mom was okay. They moved us immediately, checked on us multiple times, gave us a few things on the house, and truly handled the situation with grace and professionalism. Honestly, customer service like that can completely change an experience, and they did exactly that. As for the food... we made it a full sushi roll day. The Wagyu roll? ABSOLUTELY incredible. Rich, flavorful, and worth fighting over. The yellowtail roll was actually the star of the day though. So fresh, flavorful, perfectly balanced... we kept talking about it after. The crab roll was okay. A little on the dry side compared to the others, but not terrible. They also surprised us with complimentary dessert and a round of drinks because of the little ant incident, which we really appreciated. Price-wise? Came here for dinner and overall really enjoyed it. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the view outside is really nice, and the service was great the entire night. The Sando sandwiches were my favorite thing we ordered... super buttery, perfectly toasted, and sooo good. We also had the 3 Kings meat platter and honestly the only meat I really loved was the one with the bone marrow. If you like rich, fatty flavors, that one is ittt. The cucumber salad was delicious and the spicy crispy tuna roll actually had really good flavor but the rice tasted stale and old to the point where it was hard to chew. I wish it had been fresher because I would've enjoyed it way more. The gyozas didn't really impress me and the wild mushroom pot was good but nothing super memorable. Great experience at Yamashiro! Went for my boyfriend's birthday and we got the Miami spice dinner. It's one of the better Miami spice deals I've had and very worth it. It was $95 per person for 2 guests and 4 courses. It included 2 drinks each, course one had 2 appetizers (the spicy truffle edamame was the best I've ever had), course two has 2 more courses (really good crispy rice and a good selection of sashimi and nigiri), course 3 had 3 courses and the wagyu and butter corn were both delicious, and miso lava cake for dessert. Highly recommend going here for Miami spice as the food is actually really good and the vibe and service of the restaurant were outstanding. The easiest way to get to the Gale Hotel is by Uber, although valet parking is also available. The Katsu Sando was incredible, with meat so tender it practically melted in your mouth. We finished our savory courses with the Wild Mushroom Rice Pot, which was mixed tableside and topped with freshly shaved truffle. If you're a truffle lover like me, this dish is an absolute must! Yamashiro has been an LA institution for some time and recently opened an outpost in Miami. The vibe is relatively simple and has been played by many establishments in the genre: trendy, super loud music, lots of people pretending to be rich, mediocre overpriced sushi and in Yamashiro's case a creepy Geisha like figure walking around. The concept is essentially taking everything that Japanese treasure about a sushi experience and making sure that a Japanese visitor stumbling in here would find the establishment as offensive as possible. For starters, the wait to get seated was close to an hour, with a reservation. Getting the waiter flagged down upon being seated, another 30-40 min. Finally being able to leave this place, priceless. If anyone is thinking of this as a date night spot, I would highly advise against it. The music is so loud, it's a borderline club vibe. You cannot have any decent conversation over dinner and constantly having to scream. It's truly unbearable and one of the stupidest ideas for a dinner establishment that exists on this earth. There are lounges and clubs, where people expect to find louder music, but this was outrageous for a restaurant. To make matters worse, after asking them to turn it down a little, they said they can't and that their Italian owner requires it to be like that... So, the food, is decent. Steak is mediocre, black cod was well prepared and so are the sushi rolls. I cannot give any bad feedback to the kitchen, they really did their job well. However, the ridiculously low level of service, not taking any degree of responsibility for it when I complained and the ridiculously unpleasant atmosphere are the core reasons that Yamashiro simply does not deserve anything above one star. This was our first time at Yamashiro and I was pleasantly surprised with the experience. My friends and I chose the Miami Spice brunch menu and had a blast with Bibi, our amazing and bubbly server. The rooftop is serene, like a rock garden, that really feels distant from downtown Miami. To get into the food, the Miso Cod was fantastic. We learned it was braised/stewed for more than 24 hours to steep it in a rich, luscious umami flavor that coated every flat bite. The salted caramel miso lava cake was likely the best lava cake I've ever had, a slightly bitter velvety cake with delicious salted caramel filling and the iconic Yamashiro logo stamped onto the white chocolate coin. My friend's pavlova was also surprising with a bright berry burst flavor. The only criticism I had was the tamago sando feeling very lackluster; there was too much bread sandwiching a flavorless creamy egg mixture that couldn't capture the nostalgically tasty grab-and-go sandos I've had from Asian convenience stores. It needs a little kick of pepper, a crunchy element, something. Otherwise I'm giving this meal close to 5 stars for a high value, very delicious brunch. read more

I have been wanting to come here since it opened because I love anything Japanese. As soon as you walk in, we were promptly greeted and lead to the bar where the bartenders offered us yummy drinks. Our server was also amazing. 10/10 service. The restaurant's vibe & decor is so beautiful, And the Geisha dancer made it more of an experience. We did order a lot of the dishes and they all were delicious. The corn appetizer was so flavorful, the black cod melted in my mouth, tempura shrimp had the perfect amount of sauce and spice, the spicy truffle edamame was finger licking good and the rice mushroom kept asking me to eat more lol. We also had ceviche which was so fresh and so yummy. I am craving it today. However, I wish I could give it 5 stars but the humidity & heat being seated outside was horrible. Some fans weren't working, we were sweating a lot which made us irritable and instead of taking our time to eat and get dessert, we were rushing to leave because it was unbearable under the spotlight on top of the table + the heat. Service was 10/10. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and our server went above and beyond, walking us through the entire menu to help us decide. The only downside was the seating -- tables felt slightly too tight, and servers had to squeeze through at times. Food highlights and notes: * Spicy Truffle Edamame: Had some type of seasoning but did not taste any spice and truffle flavor. * Krispy Kale: Delicious (slightly too salty), but I'd order it again. * Cauliflower: Good presentation with table-side chopping, but flavor was just okay. * Wagyu Surf & Turf Roll: The wagyu on top overpowered the roll. Smaller pieces inside with lobster on top and a creamy sriracha on the side would've balanced it better. * Denver Steak: Good portion and tasty meat, but the mustard sauce had almost no flavor -- I ended up using just salt and wasabi. 20/10 !! absolutely obsessed. Yamashiro in downtown is such a vibe. The rooftop alone is reason enough to go ..sweeping skyline views, open air, and that perfect nightfall glow that instantly sets the mood. From the second you walk in, you're welcomed by a lounge style entrance that feels upscale, moody, and effortlessly cool... plus a must snap photo op mural. The design is where this place truly shines. Garden inspired touches like bonsai accents, koi-style water features, and a temple like central bar. It's elegant but still fun ..stylish, yet relaxed. This definitely isn't a quiet, low-key sushi spot, but the prices are comparable to Sushi Sake... except the vibes and sushi are about 10 times better. The crowd is clearly there for both the food and the experience, and they even have live entertainment during dinner at certain times, which takes the energy to another level. We started with cocktails and both were delicious. I had the Downtown Abbey (vodka, guava, golden lavender cordial, yuzu, and prosecco) it was light and refreshing, and not too sweet. My boyfriend ordered the Fortune Teller (Japanese whiskey, honey, yuzu, sweet chili, and blue spirulina), which was smooth with just the right touch of sweetness and spice. Now onto the food .... Yamashiro's menu is Japanese fusion done right, balancing comfort, luxury, and creativity. You'll find everything from Japanese fried chicken and katsu sando to lobster in miso beurre blanc, black garlic Chilean sea bass, Alaskan king crab, wagyu tomahawk, and a full sushi and handroll menu. If you're looking to stay low key and just go with some sushi or if you're looking to go a little more upscale, they absolutely deliver with premium wagyu, high-quality seafood, and chef-driven plates. For appetizers, the katsu sando completely stole the show ...fluffy Japanese milk bread, prime tenderloin, and tonkatsu aioli... rich, crispy, and unforgettable. Easily our favorite bite of the night. The octopus was just as impressive, perfectly tender with a beautiful char. We also tried a few sushi rolls, and every single one hit: *Truffle Yellowtail Roll : hamachi, chive, yuzu truffle vinaigrette, and chardonnay amazu gel for a bright, elevated flavor profile. * Yamashiro Roll (my personal favorite); tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, pickled serrano, crispy onions, spicy mayo, and eel sauce * Wagyu Surf & Turf Roll: lobster tempura topped with seared A5 wagyu, truffle salt, and onion jam... indulgent in the best way. What a magical, amazing experience we had on Christmas eve! It started at the bar with the best bartenders serving us espresso martinis and a view of the skyline. We then sat in the open-air seating, the restaurant is stunning! We enjoyed delicious tuna crispy rice and the star of the show was the little sandos with gold flecks-- beautiful and delicious. We had some edamame which added some texture to the meal. We ordered various sushi rolls and a sushi platter. All of the fish tasted fresh and was a plump texture. We met the owner, Steve who is a great guy. Later in the night, we ordered the martini service tableside-- it got the party starting. The martinis were dirty and delicious. They have soft entertainment later in the night, music starts and women dressed in a kimono came to each table. Such a great evening here! read more

It is located on the 9th floor of the Gale hotel and residences. The place is beautiful, good vibe and I liked the esthetics. The server was really attentive, nice, and good recommendations. The food was really good. My favorite dish that I tried of all was the milk bread katsu. Delicious! The corn vegetable, Denver steak, Wagyu Gouza and tuna tar tar was great too. 1st time at this restaurant, our girl friend wanted to celebrate her bday there. It's one of the hottest restaurants now in the MIA. Food was good, my favorite was the Katsu Sando even though the meat was a little hard, the rest of the plates were ok nothing out of this world...service was really good by Lui , he was really nice and friendly, ambience like every trending restaurant in Miami, loud music and lots of people wearing massive amounts of Arabic perfumes...the restaurant was ok and I think the rooftop made a bit more cool but I don't think we will go back...it's the kind of place that is worth trying. read more

Meh- really wanted to love this place but so many hurdles to overcome for an enjoyable experience. 1. This is inside a busy hotel. There is little to no signage an the lobby can be disastrous 2. BEAUTIFUL rooftop, but limited space makes reservations hard to come by and LONG wait times 3. They have a particularly high end dress code for being in a hotel.... I have been twice and both times had members of my party (male and female) asked to change. All in all the affordable food is pretty good, but nothing spectacular. Yamashiro Miami is definitely a place where the ambiance is part of the experience. The decor is beautiful, the atmosphere is elegant without feeling overwhelming, and the service was friendly and attentive. This is probably not the place to visit if you're looking for a quick meal. Be prepared for a more relaxed pace and some waiting between dishes. Personally, we really enjoyed it. We liked taking our time, enjoying the ambiance, and not having dishes come back-to-back. Whether intentional or not, the timing actually worked perfectly for us. As for the food, the Katsu Sando was delicious -- tender, flavorful, and very well executed. The Hamachi Crudo and Spicy Truffle Edamame are also worth mentioning and were among our favorites. Not everything was at the same level, though. The Yamashiro Roll was disappointing compared with the other dishes. The rolls were falling apart and varied noticeably in size, which made the presentation and execution feel a bit careless. The cocktail selection and wine list were both good and complemented the overall experience nicely. read more

Okay, come for the drinks and the atmosphere -- skip the food. The restaurant itself is stunning, with a rooftop overlooking downtown that truly feels like an oasis in the middle of the city. Definitely one of the prettiest spots for a night out in Miami. The menu, though, was nothing particularly special. We ordered a ton of food and somehow still left pretty hungry, which says a lot. The Australian wagyu was definitely the highlight and was actually really good. The sushi was fine, but nothing memorable. I personally didn't enjoy the wagyu burgers, although the rest of my party liked them more than I did. The trio tower was okay too, but I didn't think the fish tasted especially fresh. Overall, I'd absolutely come back for drinks, the views, and the vibe -- just probably not for a full dinner. read more

The architecture and interior design is phenomenal. The drinks are immaculate, the food was delicious. The service very attentive (thanks Britney!) - and they deserve a raise. It will take some time and is overpriced for the amount of food served. Set your expectations accordingly and prepare for a truly incredible experience. It really is such a vibe for a rooftop restaurant in Miami that leans hardcore into its Japanese cuisine and aesthetic.
