Bone found in yellowtail hand roll
Melinda C.

A hard fish bone was in my yellowtail hand roll, and when I brought it up to the staff, I wasn't given an apology nor acknowledged in ANY way. They brought it to the kitchen and continued on with their day. It is unacceptable from a sushi restaurant, as the fish should be properly cleaned and handled. If someone choked on it or bit down hard on it, that would be an even bigger problem. The service from the host (or lack thereof) was also extremely disappointing, as he was on his phone the entire time and didn't bother welcoming us in. I messaged OMAKAI on Instagram to address this issue, and nobody bothered to reply. The only handroll that was a standout was the salmon shiso; otherwise go to Sugarfish or Kazunori instead for much better/professional service and food quality.

Amazing experience all around, was my first visit. Excellent food and service. Thank you Lucas for helping me with the menu!

Omakai is a must-try if you love hand rolls! Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and each roll had the perfect balance of flavor and texture. My favorites were the blue crab and the yellowtail -- both were so good I could have eaten them twice. I highly recommend getting the sampler so you can try a variety, but definitely order an extra blue crab on the side... it's that good. Such a great spot in Miami and absolutely worth the visit!

Before coming in, I wasn't much of a fan of hand rolls, but after my experience at Omakai, all I can say is wow!!! Amazing. 10/10 will come back!

We came for lunch and ordered the Omakai experience for $34. It came with the following: Bronzino Mentaiko Salmon sashimi Indonesian blue crab Chilean sea bass marinated in sake Fatty tuna Scallops with something Unagi (eel), which my friend doesn't eat so she ordered a baked crab roll for $12 and I ate her eel roll. Why can't they substitute? It makes no sense. Why do they even ask if you're allergic if they can't change it??!! This was our second time here. The seaweed was crispier last time. My friend thought so too! She really liked the sea bass. It had a little kick to it. They need a sign on the building because we walked past the restaurant and were walking in circles looking at the Maps app. My friend kept saying that she remembered the Carrot Express from last time. They need more than the sidewalk sign. Tip was included in the bill so you don't need to add more unless you want to.

This place is delicious but what brought down my review was the service. I was on a work trip and saw this place so I decided to try it. Showed up without a reservation and it was fine - no wait and plenty of seating. I ordered the Oma, as I wanted to try their different menu items. When I wanted to order more, the staff was busy chatting it up with someone (influencer? Friend?). I have no idea who that person was but all staff was there talking to them and no one at the bar attending. I waited about 10-15 mins and no one picked up my paper with the additional items I wanted to try so I just crossed them out and had to call one of the staff members so I could get charged. Even when I was walking out, all the staff was still talking to that person. I'm assuming it was an influencer or someone they knew.

I picked up one of their sushi boxes to go and had a genuinely great at-home Omakase experience. The quality of the sushi was top-notch--everything tasted incredibly fresh and was beautifully packaged. The box came with a video to guide you through the tasting, which was a nice touch, even though it didn't match up perfectly with what was in the box. Still, it didn't take away from the experience. I also really appreciated the photos of the different types of sushi included at the top--it made identifying each piece fun and added to the overall presentation. I'd absolutely do this again (once I can afford it again!)

I'm a hardcore lover of hand roll bars, so when I found out one of my favorite spots, OMAKAI had a hand roll bar location in Downtown I knew it was going to be a hit. I passed by with my bestie this past weekend and I'm happy to say they did not disappoint! We passed by at around 5 pm and it was pretty empty. We ordered the OMAKAI experience $34 per person and it came with a starter of salmon sashimi, and I believe 6 hand rolls -- the portion is extremely filled and in my opinion such a steal! Nothing better than good quality hand rolls made right in front of you to enjoy. We ordered two Sauvignon blancs to welcome the weekend and they pairs perfectly with all the fish we were having. A few of my favorite hand rolls that were selected by the chef were the bay scallop, the negi toro and the white fish -- but honestly everything is delicious. I'd come here once a week if it were up to me, so so worth it!

We sat down the hand roll bar with Chef Kriss attending us and had a wonderful experience! From knowing the source of the fish and giving us a detailed recommendations and great suggestions, I can easily see myself being a regular here with such great prices, quality food, and amazing service and attention to detail! Great spot in downtown with a natural flow and super experienced chefs that take the experience to the next level!

Very warm, serene vibe with neutral tones. Definitely the kind of place you'd come to unwind and just enjoy good sushi without any chaos. Parking: Street parking is available, but it is paid, so keep that in mind before pulling up. The servers were very helpful and kind overall. My only complaint is that food came out a bit slow, especially considering it wasn't very busy at the time. Like serve me all my orders all at once pleaseeeeee so I can indulge lol What I Had: _________________ Sashimi Assortment - 10/10 Freaking delicious. Light, decadent, and incredibly fresh. Each piece tasted clean and high-quality, the kind of sashimi that melts the second it hits your mouth. They did their thing! Kanpachi Sashimi - 10/10 So good. Soft, delicate, and perfectly fresh. Every bite was balanced and flavorful without being heavy at all. Nigiri - White Fish Tasting - 11/10 Hands down my favorite part of my experience. I ordered multiple rounds (they come two per order), including branzino and snapper. The branzino was unreal. I wanted only branzino... that is how marvelous it was. Topped with this umami crunch that added so much texture and flavor. It was literally mouthwatering, like a burst of flavor in every bite. I honestly could've kept ordering this all night. Nigiri - Bluefin Tuna Tasting - 5/10 This one just wasn't for me. It wasn't fishy, but the texture was very slimy and didn't sit well in my mouth. It didn't swallow smoothly and just wasn't appetizing to me personally. Definitely a pass. Blue Crab Hand Roll - 6.5/10 I know this is a fan favorite, but it was just okay for me. Not bad at all, just didn't wow me compared to everything else I had. For $6, it's fine, but I wouldn't rush to reorder it. Customer Service: 8.5/10 Friendly and helpful, just slightly slow. Overall Experience: 9/10 Will I Be Back? Yes, absolutely. This establishment has been TAMIED™

We got there a bit before our reservation time, and they let us sit in the smaller dining area as we waited for our spots to open up. We all did the $200 tasting and we were all pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of the bites. It's 8 courses that range from a nigiri sampler, small bites, and dessert. Most memorable were the clam broth, beef loin and carrots, and the fatty tuna nigiri with caviar on top. The fatty tuna nigiri with caviar was the main reason I wanted the tasting! There is an à la carte menu too, but it was a lot easier just letting the chefs portion out our meal. Would definitely check them out and enjoy a superb evening out!

You can access the mall area from the left of the hotel lobby. What impressed me most was the presentation of all the dishes. They really took great care to make everything look beautiful. All the plates and dishes were just so stunning. The other thing that really stood out was the service. They were so friendly and helpful. I truly appreciate when servers know their menu well and are able to make suggestions. I can't remember my server's name, but she was just top-notch. We ordered: - Miso soup, (served in a charming, Japanese chawan mushi cup) the flavor was really good and strong. (I hate it when it's weak) - Spicy dumplings. They tasted homemade. Yummy - Shrimp shu mai, good, tasted as it should - Tanaka roll, with extra crispies on top, (I was not a fan because I did not expect it to be deep-fried. if it had not been deep-fried, I would've liked it.) - Peking duck served in an impressive three tier tower that looks like a round Chinese Temple. - Pork Belly Bao bun, this was also a miss for me because I expected it to taste like barbecue, but it was just really salty like they used a lot of brown salty sauce. All in all, I really enjoyed this restaurant, even though I didn't like those two items. Bec But, because of the excellent service, the atmosphere and the beautiful way they served the food, I decided to leave them a five star review. Those dishes weren't bad they just weren't what I expected. We don't live in the area so if we were to stay in this hotel again, we would definitely dine here again. It was perfectly cooked on the outside. Nice and crispy. The curry taste was very delightful, but the inside of the crabcake was crazy mushy. Just not what I expected. We normally check the Michelin Guide first but there's none for Miami so we decided to browse through Tock for fun. This was how we stumbled upon Sushi Bar and we are so glad we did! The price point of $185 per seating is super worth it. You get a lot of fish and they are very creative with each nigiri. Their spin on it shows their creative side (with Miami flavors) but is not super over the top and sauce does not drown out the freshness of the fish. Something that stood out to me was how they shaved frozen monkfish liver as a topping. I wanna go back just for that!! They also had some pieces where they smoked the fish. Besides the food, I thought it was very creative how they welcomed guests with a welcome drink at the hotel bar. This was so unique! We finished ours early, and had some of their other drinks - they were all very good! Once they're ready, a server came to get us from the hotel bar and led us through an alleyway to a separate building which was where the actual omakase was taking place. The atmosphere was dark and gave off speakeasy vibes, which I thought was different to other omakase places. Bar is spacious enough to still have private conversations. We did the beverage pairing and we really appreciated the sommelier's knowledge. Overall, we would want to come back again for another tasting experience!!
