Great place for tapas style dining. Always good when you sit down and get a rundown of a menu and then pick and choose plates to share. They had a duck confit special tonight that was so delicious, it came with a gravy, poached pears and mushrooms. My favorite dish was their foie gras , definitely a rich dish but is paired with some balsamic reductions and various jellies to cut on the richness of the fat. The anchovies were just the right amount of salty and fatty and paired well with the breads. The music was a vibe crossing genres and decades. And the dimly lit dining room caters well to a date night or just an intimate dining experience over a great selection of wines and great food.
Food, service, ambiance, all perfect. This place is tucked away downtown and is such a hidden gem. Miami can be full of tourist trap restaurants that have a ton of high reviews for some reason, but this is NOT one of those places. The place is small and intimate with a menu that's not overwhelming at all. It was just me so I only got 2 dishes, but I wish I got to try the whole menu. The Branzino tartare stole the show - but that's not to say the Ous wasn't delicious as well. If you're in downtown miami, you have to check this place out.
We came here for a late dinner and we're pleasantly surprised! They had an extensive wine menu, we ordered a glass of Spanish wine which paired perfectly with delicious appetizers. We ordered the pan con tomate, gambas al ajillo and pulpo, all amazing. Although a little rough on the outside, the vibe when you step inside is sleek and energetic. Not to mention the attentiveness of the service was another plus! Hidden gem in downtown!
Five star food, service and ambiance. NIU has Catalan / Spanish tapas with exceptional execution. Hats off to the chef. Food comes out table side incredibly fresh and warm. Some even have finishing touches like the charcoal heating of the oysters, or shrimp flambé. Today's trial of the vegan paella was well executed, for your expectations it's not a typical hearty helping. Overall, while I felt the flavors overwhelmingly good, I did find the portions leaving me wanting more. Luckily you can keep ordering, though keep in mind this is a quality over quantity place. Definitely plan to return and recommend. Service was friendly, interactive, worked as a team and knowledgeable about the menu. They were good about asking on allergies and one request to separate the artichokes from the pork to make it shareable for the party. Thank you for the flexibility and care.
Catalan cuisine, yes please! Everything was delicious from the octopus to the gambas. But here's the thing. We ordered two tapas and the paella. Which is about tapas size too, for 2/3 people max. The two first tapas came Out in a timely manner. The wait for the paella was incredibly long. I prefer for the dishes to be timed out better and I know that paellas usually take longer but the gap was so long it killed our hunger. Perhaps if we would have ordered more tapas but still I'm taking like over an hour wait. We finished the entire bottle of wine. But once it arrived it was so divine. Just have this in mind when ordering the paella. Wanted a dessert but the time gap ruined it. Service was good. We had to sit outside because we didn't have reservations. Perhaps a reservation before would be good if you want to sit indoors.
I will admit, NIU Kitchen didn't have a lot of competition, but it was hands down the best meal I had in Miami. It was also the most confusing restaurant to get to. My friend and I took an uber to NIU Kitchen and we were left at the NIU Kitchen wine bar which was closed. Upon further inspection, we saw a restaurant without signage but with the same awning as the NIU Kitchen wine bar and we were able to get seated on time. The ambiance is pretty casual with wooden tables and classroom chairs but the vibe is elevated by the artwork on the walls and the older clientele. There also weren't a lot of people the night we came which made the space feel more intimate. Our server was friendly and pointed out the most popular dishes on the menu. We started with the Lomo Ibérico pork with Manchego cheese. The combination of the cured pork and manchego cheese was amazing. They also give grapes, jam, and crackers to go with the meat and cheese. The Charbroiled Oysters came next and were very different from normal oysters. It was like having a bite of the sea but less refreshing and more smokey and pleasantly briny. Next was the Ous which was served with bread. The foamed potato mixed with the egg is like dipping bread into a savory cloud. I was drinking the eggs and potato in fear of getting too full from the bread. We finished with the Pan-Seared Foie which was super decadent and was complemented with multiple dashes of fruit reduction to cut the fattiness. I regret not coming here hungrier and I also regret not getting a glass of wine. Every dish just tasted perfect and I would've spent the whole night here if I wasn't trying to hit every spot in Miami for my limited vacation. No matter, because I'll be back for more the next time I come to Miami.
Tried this spot for happy hour with friends! They were out of a few things on the menu that I would have wanted to order. We started with the pan con tomate which was good, the steak tartare which was also good. The service was ok, the food took a while & we kept having to ask to refill our waters. I ordered the octopus as my entree, but the server forgot it so it came way after everyone was done eating. It was tender & flavorful just not very filling so I ordered some meats and cheeses that were good but a little overpriced in my opinion. I feel like the dishes we had were good but nothing great and the service was not the best.
Niu can do tapas! With a very simplistic but extremely well done execution on spanish tapas, everything was divine. It can definitely be attributed to the quality of the ingredientes because look at how lovely that Jamón is! That day, the A/C at Niu wasn't working so definitely added to the heat, but the staff did everything in their power to keep us cool, constantly refreshing our water. I wish there was something a little more, but well executed for sure. Niu's parking is a little difficult as is everything downtown, but they had a valet nearby to help out
This adorable quaint wine bar serves catalan tapas to be shared with friends. They take reservations on Resy and offer indoor/outdoor dining. Outdoor dining can be noisy since you're right up on the street in the city center. We came as a group of 4 with a reservation - though something went wrong with Resy bc thought she indicated 4 people, it showed up in the restaurants system as 2. I greatly appreciate the staff for still accommodating our group despite the incorrect number. We ordered (from what I remember, 2 months later) PA AMB TOMAQUET COLD TOMATO SOUP LOMO IBÉRICO OUS ARTICHOKE ARRÒS SEC Honestly all of the food was divine! The cold tomato soup with mustard ice cream was such a fun and unique dish - I loved the basil oil as well. But my absolute favorites from the night were the OUS (poached eggs, potato foam, truffle, jamon) because I'd never had anything like it. It felt like something you might have for breakfast but in an elevated form with playful textures.
Wow! My friends and I had such a lovely dinner here. The service was relaxed and friendly. The place really is a vibe. The special of the evening was a duck breast which was delicious, we also go the pan con tomate, and the best artichoke I have ever eaten in my life. It had melt in your mouth iberico with it and was just such a surprising delicious hit for me. Definitely my favorite dish of the night! The wine was also great and overall we had such a lovely and delicious dinner at NIU.
I really enjoyed this meal but the loss of one star was due to 5 menu items being unavailable. We started with the daily oysters, the charbroiled oysters and the pa amb tomaquet. All were great. My favorite of the 3 was the pa amb. The branzino tartar was the highlight of the night for me, main dish wise. The cold white garlic soup was such a nice combination to the fresh fish. Truly stood out to me. We tried the gambas al ajillo since we saw four other tables all order it. It's served on a cast iron skillet, lit on fire, which was fun. Unfortunately this dish didn't do much for me. Very heavy on the garlic and paprika but that was it. It wasn't bad but it also didn't wow me. The ous dish was delicious. I liked the saltiness of the ibérico jam with the softness of the eggs and the truffle. The artichokes were also delicious. Very well done. What I left thinking about for days was the pa amb lait which was the milk bread dessert. Holy crap!!!!! Spectacular. The chocolate dessert was good too but the show stopper was the milk bread. I'll be thinking about it for a very long time.
We visited here on vacation. This restaurant has a fairly small menu with mostly small plates and a handful of mains. We weren't too hungry so it was perfect for us. We tried their iberico ham, roasted artichokes, eggplant and pepper, pork cheek, and house bread. We enjoyed every dish and ordered seconds of the pork cheek and bread! As these are small plates, and their menu is limited, I would suggest ordering one of their rice dishes. Although we did not try it this time, I would expect it quality to be consistent across the whole menu. The wait staff were super friendly and provided us with lots of good advice and recommendations for our order. Overall we had a good time at this restaurant. read more
I came here with my family for dinner during our trip to Miami. This Spanish tapa restaurant is small, located in downtown Miami near the bay area. There were only a couple group of customers when we ate here so it was quiet. The server was quite friendly, and walked us through the menu patiently. It's not a long list of menu selections, and each tapa dish was small portion as expected and a bit pricy (normal for Miami though). We had three orders of the side breads coz they were so crispy and flavourful. For tapas, we also tried the warm salad with eggplant and red pepper which was soft and had an interesting taste. The pork cheek was tender and flavourful, so we placed an extra order of it. Ibreico ham was also a must try (portion was ok). Artichoke exceeded my expectations. Usually I'm not a big fan of this vegetable, but I liked the sweet and sour taste offered at this restaurant. Overall, it's a great dining experience. Expect $100+ CAD/$70+ USD per person. read more

Came here for Valentine's Day and it was such a cute little spot tucked away downtown. It definitely feels like a hidden gem. The space is small and intimate which gives it really romantic, European vibes. Perfect for a date night. We had a reservation and only waited about five minutes past our time to be seated, which honestly wasn't bad at all considering how busy the night was. We started with the oysters, both the regular and the charbroiled. They actually char them right in front of you which was a cool touch. They were good, but I do think they added a little too much mayo on top for my taste. The gambas al ajillo were delicious and probably one of my favorite dishes of the night. They literally came out with flames which made the presentation even better, and they served it with bread that was perfect for dipping into the garlicky sauce. We also ordered the seafood paella. The flavor was good, but we were honestly a little disappointed with the portion size. After seeing pictures from previous reviews we expected a much bigger dish. We even showed our waiter a photo of what we had seen online and they explained they've made some changes to the dish. Overall though, the food was tasty, the ambiance was romantic, and the experience felt special. Definitely a great spot for a date night if you're looking for something cozy and a little different in downtown Miami. read more

Lovely and refreshing find - a truly authentic Spanish spot in downtown. The octopus carpaccio and artichoke appetizer were standouts, packed with flavor and beautifully done. Wine list full of Spanish gems that perfectly complement the food. read more

This place has been on my list for years. Food was absolutely excellent! A bit pricey for the portions but we will be coming back here again. Everything was tapas size including the larger dishes. We ordered the charbroiled oysters, steak tartare, tomato bread, seared foie, bavette steak and arroz bec. Charbroiled Oysters - wonderful flavor of smokey with the mild oyster taste. A bit pricey at $8 per piece but would absolutely order again Steak tartare - My only critique would be that the steak tartare had a bit too much brine that overpowered the steak flavor but it was still quite good Tomato bread - can't go wrong with this to complement the meal Seared Foie - loved the combination of flavors. Definitely combine each bite with the sweet and salty sauces on the dish Bavette Steak - made perfectly rare as we ordered despite the thinner cut of meat. Both he steak and roasted vegetable relish was had an amazing Smokey flavor! Only comment would be to have the relish warm instead of cold Arroz Bec - added this last minute to give one of the rice dishes a try. The combination of mushrooms, sausage and aioli with the rice was delicious. We couldn't finish to wrapped up to go home and my husband ate it before the end of the night lol The establishment also only does wine so unfortunately no beers and cocktails. We didn't ask but would be interested to know if they allowed customers to also BYOB. Looking forward to going back! read more

Every single bite was delicious. Super happy my friend recommended this place as I have been tired of the same old typical Miami places. It was packed inside but it had a welcoming and cozy feel. We had the oysters and artichoke to start, fish of the day, and sponge cake with pistachio gelato. So glad I discovered this spot and will add to my rotation of places. read more

I recently tried NIU Kitchen and was impressed with the food. Having lived for a while in Barcelona / Catalunya I was excited to try a Catalan restaurant in Miami. Their pan con tomate was impeccable. The artichoke with jamón ibérico was so delicious. The only thing keeping them from 5 stars is the lack of Vichy Catalan water. Vichy is the #1 sparking water in Spain and comes from Girona (Catalunya). It has a distinct flavor due to its high minerality. The Catalan experience is incomplete without it. Otherwise, I highly recommend NIU Kitchen. read more
What a unique find in downtown Miami! This Catalan small plate specialist is not to be missed. The small contemporary digs provide a nice atmosphere; it's just trendy enough without the flash that seems to permeate the Miami scene. The lovely server brought multiple samples of wine by the glass before my husband and I both settled on a Spanish rose. As luck would have it, the only remaining bottle in house provided one full glass and about 3/4 of a second serving. Our waitress was apologetic and stated that she would be charging us only for one glass. Now that's good business sense! We started with the octopus carpaccio and branzino tartare in a chilled garlic soup. Both were well balanced and bursting with unique flavors that all just worked. We then enjoyed the large white asparagus which were so supple in texture and simply refreshing and delicious. On to the coca flatbread which was a crispy toast with tuna belly dotted with anchovies and romesco. The presentation was gorgeous and tasty. The artichoke with foam and jamon Iberico was a standout. We finished with a whole dorado presented and then filleted and served over crispy thinly sliced wafers of potato. The fish was cooked to perfection, despite a pretty imperfect fillet job which looked a bit sloppy and left several bones when served. All in all though the service, food and vibe were so enjoyable. I recently gave another casual eatery in Miami 5 stars and if you read my other reviews, it is quite clear I don't easily dole out the highest rating. But NIU kitchen deserved it. The menu is really interesting and provides ample options for all palates. Highly recommend trying if you haven't had the pleasure of dining here yet. read more
This place was amazinggg! I loved the food and ambiance. We got daily oysters and charbroiled oysters as appetizers. I especially loved the charbroiled oysters, I still crave them, and we got octopus ceviche which was so good too. The sauce was great and the flavor was amazing, I liked that it was a big dish too. Finally, we got the steak and it was perfect. I loved that it was a large portion as well. The flavor was so good. The service was great too, they were super nice and they recommended a white wine that we loved. The interior was really cute too and after eating at NIU Kitchen we visited NIU wine bar down the street. It was also a cute spot and I will definitely revisit both places. I can't wait to have the charbroiled oysters again and try more of their menu and wines. read more

This restaurant has a romantic ambiance with soft music and dim lighting, ideal for a date night. There is a great selection of wines and attentive service. The food was okay, neither exceptional nor bad, but the portions are very small; this is a tapas style. The clams had too much vinegar, which was the special of the night but not as expected. Overall, Niu Kitchen provides a charming environment. I'll probably be coming back for wine and cheese. read more
Niu Kitchen has a beautiful ambiance and is great for groups or couples that are keen to share (given that it's Spanish tapas). Our sever, Jose, gave us great recommendations for great wine and food choices. Jose is actually is originally from Spain, which of course not only helps with the authenticity of the restaurant but also was fun since one of our friends in our party is soon moving to Spain and he was happy to chat about it. Everything we got was very tasty: the pa amb tomaquet, grilled octopus, canelons au gratin, and seafood paella. For dessert, we couldn't decide and just got all of them! But I think the pa amb llet was our favorite and this was the one Jose also recommended. We also loved the red wine recommended, which was a chilled Merlot "El Tiempo Que Los Une." read more
Amazing service and food! It is small and has a casual ambiance but go for the great wine selection, helpful and friendly service, and unique and tasty food. We got the pan con tomate- the bread was soft but toasted perfectly and flavorful. We also had the grilled artichoke and octopus- both so yummy and interesting flavors. Definitely a place to come with more than 2 people so you can order more dishes and share to try everything! read more

The food was VERY good. The service started off very nice, the server was attentive to our questions, helped with our drink selection, recommended a variety of dishes popular in the restaurant (we ordered based on her suggestions, and they were all good). After ordering the meal, however, we felt the server kind of forgot about us, the attention wasn't the same. The food came very quickly (we felt maybe too much at first), but the pace actually felt nice, cause we shared everything we ate, so we could focus our attention on one dish at a time. But after having the main course, there was a big pause and wait to order the dessert, we kind of disrupted the pace of the entire meal. This is me just being picky, we actually had a great time, the food was amazing and it's good to know a have a good place nearby to eat, have a drink, share small plates. It's good for any occasion. First Course | Classic spanish tomato bread 4 / 5 First Course | Branzino Tartare with White Garlic Cold Soup 5 / 5 Main Course | Arros Sec with Botifarra Sausage & Aïoli 4 / 5 (this one was very good, but to my personal taste, it needed a little bit more of an aggressive seasoning to just make it explode with flavor, perhaps just a bit more salt, or just some citrus zest/just) Main Course | Grilled Artichoke Confit & Jamón Ibérico 5 / 5 (maybe needed just a pinch of salt). NIU kitchen is a cool place to have tapas when in the downtown area. We came here after reading some Yelp reviews and decided to give it a try. As you come in it feels just as it looks.... informal yet classy. The restaurant has a great vibe and modern decor with an open plan. Small window to the kitchen and guess what?..... they allow you to send beer to the cooks... (kitchen staff) The tapas are all meant to be shared although some are smaller than others. We had the toasted bread with tomato and garlic a couple of those... the octopus Carpaccio with garbanzo and apple aioli was delicious, also iberico ham and manchego cheese tapas, clams, seafood riceand a few other things. The seafood rice has a ton of flavor and the best thing was probably the whole Dorado fish. I would say that it is a sharing feast.... lots of small plates and prices aren't too bad either. Niu Kitchen is a Catalan restaurant and wine bar with some local and exotic mixes incorporated in the food. It is the first restaurant opened by chef Deme Lomas, Karina Iglesias, and Adam Hughes. We found about Niu Kitchen through internet browsing on Eater's 38 Miami. It is located in downtown Miami, so there is paid street and garage parking. We ordered an Uber to save the hassle. We called for a reservation one day before our arrival, and I recommend making reservations because the restaurant is small yet romantic. Online orders available on the website from Monday to Sunday 12pm - 3pm and 5pm - 9pm. FOOD: Chorizo Ibérico (4/5): Dry-cured pork sausage from Spain. We were fans of this. Simple. Pa Amb Tomàquet (4/5, toasted bread, grated tomato, garlic oil): My date really loved this, as he said it was his favorite with the scallops. This dish was very simple yet full of flavor. The garlic olive oil added a bit of mellow and sweet flavor at the end of the bite, and the grated tomato was slightly tangy. Rich flavors. Ous (5/5, poached eggs, truffled potato foam, jamón ibérico, black truffle): I believe this is the most popular item, and I can taste why! This was delicious. It's somewhat a custard soup if that makes sense. The pieces of jamón infused in this with black truffle throughout the top layer hooked me in! You don't really need to eat this with the bread. Canelons (3/5, roasted chicken cannelloni, wonton, bechamel, grated manchego): It is like lasagna. I wasn't a big fan of this, especially since I was quite full. It is served in a cast iron pan with 2 rolled cannellonis in white roux, milk, and grated manchego sauce. Kind of tasted like potatoes. Very rich. Scallops (4/5, Romesco, Aioli, and Picada): We got 3 pieces for each person, and we were able to try each scallop with each of the 3 sauces. We enjoyed the sauces from most to least with the scallops - aioli, picada, then romesco. Simple dish. Great service. No complaints. Water never touched bottom. Would I come back? Yeah. Niu kitchen was incredible. Amazing wine selection as well as incredible service. A great addition to downtown miami - nearby Niu wine bar if you'd like natural wine for drinks after. The food was delicious, I recommend all the tapas - all worth a try - the oysters, the clams with mozzarella, the bread with tomato. Just a no frills quick great option for bites and drinks. read more
