Overall a solid dining experience. Joined my friends for lunch right when they opened. Ordered a few ramen and sushi rolls. Server was pleasant and friendly but accidentally put in an order for an onigiri that we never ordered and forgot to put in the order for a black garlic ramen my friend ordered. When we asked about the missing ramen order he quickly went to the back to put in the order but ordered the wrong ramen which was a regular tonkatsu ramen. Another thing that was a little irritating was that the bathroom's paper towel dispenser was empty so you couldn't dry your hands after washing. Given that there was only one other table with two customers during the entire duration of our meal, it seems kind of inexcusable that the employees could not check and replace the dispenser while they were also using during the time of service. Regarding the meal, The black Garlic ramen was decent albeit slightly salty and the texture of the noodles was nice. My friends tonkatsu ramen was a little too creamy for the soup and came with thinner b noodles which was a little disappointing and unexpected as it was not mentioned in the menu that there were any differences in the type of noodles in each ramen choices. The sushi rolls were good. They were well made and flavorful. Overall I would recommend this place and think it's worth a try. read more

This is my new favorite sushi place on the mile! The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. The menu includes a variety of authentic Japanese "Izakaya" style appetizers and small dishes as well as ramen and sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. Their food is fresh and I am always looking forward to their daily specials. They have a variety of sake and sell beer and wine as well. They have a fun happy hour special where if you buy a beer, you get a free yakitori skewer which was absolutely delicious. Nice and relaxing atmosphere with staff that are very kind and attentive. I ordered a tonkotsu ramen and loved it! The broth was magnificent and so were the other ingredients. They also gave quite a bit of noodle. Pricing was average in Miami standards. Would definitely recommend. read more

Well - I gave this spot a try. I should have known something was off when I walked in and it was empty but the Yelp reviews displayed 4.3 stars. First plate of sushi seemed just fine. The second plate of sushi - 3/4 - they served a 3 day old sea urchin nigiri that is pictured below. Tasted awful and clearly spoiled. I'll report back with how long the ensuing food poisoning lasts. Absolutely incredible--I don't even know where to start! I came in Friday for lunch with two colleagues, and we were all blown away. The service, the food, and even the prices are unmatched--almost too good to be true. I ordered the Black Tonkatsu, which was marvelous. The egg was perfectly soft and yolky, just how I love it. I also tried the gyoza (good, though nothing special), but the spicy mayo onigiri was remarkable. One bite and I felt transported back to a chilly Friday night in a little alleyway in Japan--pure nostalgia. This food is authentic, and it shows. They even offer shaved ice! Sadly, I didn't have the space (or time) to try it this visit, but there will definitely be a next time, and I'll be saving room. The vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant are small, cozy, and authentically Japanese. Service was just as outstanding--Marco was fantastic and made the experience even better. This place has finally ended my search for a good, affordable sushi place in Miami! We have wonderful places like the Michelin starred Shingo just down the street, of course, but that's $300 a person. Anaba is incredibly affordable for some amazing quality food. All of the sushi we tried in the Pandora's Box was excellent. The fatty tuna was melt in your mouth and all of the rolls were tasty and fresh. I don't normally opt for California rolls, but this might be the best I've ever tried. I had the onigiri bento and it felt like I was back in Japan. It's getting a little more common to find onigiri here, but it's still rare. And now I can say I have a legit place to get great onigiri. And I especially appreciated the delicious and so-authentic Japanese pickles that come in the bento. The umeboshi is just like I remember back in Japan. I loved the yakitori skewers, though the chicken ball skewer was a bit too sweet for me. My friend had the dark miso ramen which he really liked and said was better than Ichimi's ramen, which had been the best I've found here in Miami, so that's pretty high praise! The gyoza we had was better than any I've tried even in Japan. The perfectly crisp pan seared side was so good, and the filling was delicious. We liked all of the recommendations we got for our sake flight which we split three ways. I loved my cloudy sake-not too sweet and so clean tasting. Lastly, our waiter was awesome. Attentive, knew the menu well, had good recommendations and asked good questions. The sous chef saw us with our pup outside and had a big smile waiting for us letting us know they were happy to welcome us and our dog in the outside tables. I wished I lived closer, it's about a 40 minute drive, but that's not going to stop my wife and I from becoming regulars here. Can't say enough nice things about Anaba! read more

I heard of Anaba from a Miami podcast and I was really looking forward to it. We only order two items from the menu and it took over 30 minutes to get our food -- I had to followup twice. Not sure what was the huge delay to get our food as there was only 2 other guests at the restaurant. We sat outside and ordered the ramen (black tonkusu) with pork and it was average --nothing special. My friend got the tuna poke bowl, the fish was fresh. We had not been here in about a year. Going to Anaba on Friday after work became a bit of a ritual for quite some time Then we moved offices. We came in today and asked for the sushi chef "Matsu". We were told he was gone, and we nearly gasped in horror. However, we were assured that the sushi chef in residence, Raimundo, was trained by Matsu. Well, Raimundo did not disappoint, the food at Anaba might be even better than it was before. Absolutely delicious. Fresh ingredients quality preparation with care. Came to this place in search of great sushi and a decent ramen. The place looks great but it was rather hot inside. The a/c was clearly turned off so it was stuffy inside. Service was meh. The yakitori was ice cold and gross. They were abusing Chef Mic (microwave) it was so quiet that we kept hearing the microwave open and close as it cooked our food. My daughter got sick from eating the ramen that we had to pay and leave the "nigiri". The roe and nigiri tasted spoiled definitely never coming back. It was my first time in this restaurant, is very tiny place in the middle of Coral Gables, bit is one of those places that you really enjoy food, service and ambience. My recommendation are the sushi, sashimi and other traditional Japanese dishes, don't go with fusion type of dishes, they are good but as good as the Japanese ones. I have gotten Anaba takeout twice now and both times were great! The portions are little small but for the price it is still a great deal. The food always tastes fresh! We loved the jalapeño tuna roll and the shrimp tempura roll. The miso soup and the gyoza are delicious starters. I highly recommend the chicken teriyaki bowl as well. Anaba is my favorite sushi restaurant in Coral Gables, hands down. Their rolls are always so fresh and absolutely amazing. If you're looking for a decadent roll, I highly recommend the Sugar Daddy Roll (I think it's the best on the menu). However, they also do an amazing job at the basics like their Tuna Roll and Vegetable Roll. Hilariously, one of the things that really blew me away was the Seaweed Salad - it's a super basic dish (and doesn't photograph well...), but it's seriously delicious - I actually ate it without dressing because it didn't need it. Though Anaba isn't a large restaurant, it does have both indoor and outdoor spaces for seating (would recommend the outdoor space, as your clothes will smell like tempura if you sit inside due to your proximity to the kitchen). I've had good service every time I've been, as well. If you're in the Gables (or even if you aren't), I would recommend trying it out. read more
