Bar and bar seating available...

Everything was great in this place...the food, the service and the ambiance. The only bad thing here was the presence of an old lady (maybe the manager or owner?) who constantly kept yelling out to the staff! Very bad manners. If you need to dress down a staff member, it should be done privately. Other than that, this place deserves a lot of merit for food quality and service! We came in on Valentine's Day so the place was packed to the brim. The staff handled the load quite well! The price was reasonable for the amount of food served. I think the seats at the tables by the bar area need changing - some parts of the seats were already lumpy. When you're in the area and feeling the need for good food, try them out...

We stumbled across this hidden gem of a vintage steakhouse along highway 1 late at night after a long day of fishing on Pacifica Pier. It was our last night vacationing in California from Hawaii. It felt like a slice of history - a luxury dining establishment/old train station from a bygone era. I can only imagine what a destination this restaurant must have been for weary travelers at the turn of the century. As you step inside, old lit up dioramas of trains decorate the entryway - like a museum. As you walk further in, an antique fireplace with a worn plush armchair invites you in. It was surreal - my husband and I felt out of time and space. "Oh s*%#*" he said as we scanned the aging establishment decorated with aging photos and plaques accumulated over many decades. You could tell the place used to be really upscale but its grandeur has faded throughout the years and now the place feels a bit like a dive bar on the side of the road. We turned the corner - no one was there. The carpet looked like it had been walked on for a century. The air was a little thick but otherwise smelled fine. There was no one to be seen. *Oh s*%#*" my husband exclaimed again. Finally around the back of the restaurant we found the server and and waiter waiting on some guests in the back room. We were seated right away. We ordered prime rib, clam chowder and Manhattans. Surprisingly, the food was top notch. We were provided complimentary warm sourdough bread with butter. The portions of prime rib were HUGE and the meat was tender and cooked to perfection (see photos). One serving was enough to 4 people generously. The clam chowder was so original and delicious - their own original recipe. Light and refreshing but still thick and creamy. We ordered a couple of manhattans - which were served in bucket glasses with coffee straws. The prices were remarkably low for what you get and we went home with leftovers for days. I really hope this place stays in business so we can visit again in the future. Let's hope it doesn't become a relic of the past. I recommend visiting this place at least once before it's too late!

Best crab sandwich and fries!!!

Still the best crab sandwich in the Bay Area! And didn't mention the perfectly cooked fries too? I don't know what they do, but it's always crispy outside and soft and juicy inside and they travel well. The burgers are great too. The owners Barbara and Denise are nice to talk to too. We always stop by whenever we are in Pacifica. Stop by and you won't be disappointed.

I got the steak sandwich medium rare and it was really good! Don't expect a fancy bougie ambiance inside, think more of an old mom & pop dive bar. Not the type of scene for everyone but I don't really care about the interior as long as the food is good. Service was good in my option, they weren't busy when I went. The owner reminds me of a New Yorker in terms of her vibe. Blunt or tough on the outside, but actually nice. I'll be back next time I'm in the area and in the mood for meat.

Came by with my mom and brother for Mother's Day brunch. We've always talked about trying this place out whenever we come to Pacifica but today we finally decided to stop by, and we're very pleased. I got the BLT on sourdough, my mom got the seafood combo, and my brother got the patty melt. We all thought the food was amazing. Good service. I worked in food service for 10+ years so I alway pre-buss the table before we leave honestly it's just out of habit now, but the busser noticed and was really nice and expressed his appreciation. That was such a nice interaction! Our server was really nice and on top of checking on us and getting us refills. And my mom and I just loved the table settings, we really noticed the attention to detail. Perfect stop for a Mother's Day brunch :)

Vallemar Station Deep Fried Calamari

I returned to Vallemar Station to watch an NFL playoff game, and it was nice to catch up with Denise and her mother. She remembered how I used to come with my family and coworkers for happy hours and dinner, even remembered how my daughter liked the eggs Benedict they made. I ordered the spicy calamari, which is pretty much how I remember it, hot, fresh and delicious. The French Dip that I ordered also was tasty, and the new French fries it came with were well-seasoned, hot and delicious. I will have to come back for the crab sandwich with my wife, because she loves to get that when we are out, but I can't recall the last time that we ordered it. Thanks to Denise and the entire crew for taking care me, providing excellent service!

I'm torn here. Vallemar Station is not for me- & there's a reason the reviews span from 1 star to 5. I'd call this place a dive bar/restaurant, kinda like a Midwest truck stop. Hungry Man portions, & 'what ya gonna have hon" service. I ate around my prime rib to avoid the (for me) undercooked portions. Bonus was a side of authentic horseradish. The baked potato came swimming in butter, sadly, no sour cream. The veggies- 1960s lunch room cafeteria. Just to be nice I took most of it to go & dumped it in the trash outside. (Nobody to give it to) That said, my dining companions absolutely loved their prime rib & spaghetti. They're regulars & treated to extra friendly service. Gotta love that. I applaud them for supporting local & keeping this place alive. Me? I won't be back. There's a musty smell. The window sills were covered in grime, yes- flies- it's probably dark so you can't see the scary carpets. And wow, what's with that art? So given this description, judge for yourself if you're a potential customer.

Started with maragaritas and I have never had a maragarita served in this manner (see photos). The maragarita had plenty of Grand Marnier/Contreau and Don Julio tequila but it was the way it was served that was impressive. Had the usual chips & salsa but the salsa was freshly roasted and smoky a surprising texture and flavor. I had the chile relleno which was the puffiest relleno I've ever had. So delicious, melt in your mouth, filled with so much cheese it oozed cheese everywhere on the plate. The other dish was a cheese enchilada traditional plate but the largest enchilada I've ever seen. Both dishes were served with rice and beans (black & refried). This restaurant served hearty plates of traditional Mexican dishes that were above par and well oh so good. Staff were friendly and accommodating. A place I hope to return to sooner than later.

My fiance was not a fan of the table that they sat me at while he parked the car so when he came in he asked if we could switch. They were more than happy to accommodate and we got a new table facing the ocean view window, but not next to it, because those are reservation only, completely understandable. Our server came by and was very friendly and took our order immediately. We decided to start with the poached shrimp cocktail and for our mains we ordered the pesto stuffed salmon with wild rice and the citrus beet salad with chicken added. After we finished our appetizer the hostess came by to kindly request we switch tables as they had a large party coming in. She took us over to a beautiful table right next to the window with an amazing view of the ocean! We were super thrilled! Our food came shortly after and I have to say the salmon was impeccably delicious. The assortment of fresh vegetables was wonderful, artichoke hearts, string beans, carrots and more cooked beautifully. My fiance really enjoyed his grilled chicken over the top of his beet and citrus salad. We actually switched plates for a bit because we wanted to enjoy each other's meals. We ended the meal with a cup of coffee that was strong bold and just my type. We also had the mango coconut a top buttery biscuit dessert and it was the perfect sweetness to end our meal. We made reservations ahead of time because I read other reviews about how busy this place can get. And good thing we did, because it was packed in there. We were warmly greeted when we checked in at the front and taken to our table. They had a reserved sign on our table right by the window facing the ocean. We really appreciated them saving us such a wonderful table with a view. Our waitress Sara, came by and brought us menus and introduced herself. She told us the specials and gave us some time to make a decision. I loved her. Sara was awesome, hilarious and gave some good advice on some menu items, which I appreciated. I decided to get the famous crab sandwich. I got the half portion with the side salad and a cup of clam chowder. My husband ordered one of the specials, which was the chicken piccata as well as a cup of clam chowder. I also ordered an iced tea. Our clam chowders arrived first. It was so good. We both enjoyed them. It had a lot of clams in it. It was delicious and comforting. Our entrees came out shortly after our chowders. Thank goodness I ordered the half portion of the crab sandwich because it was huge. It was full of crab and it was delicious. The sourdough bread had been grilled with butter and the crab had a very light amount of mayo, as it should, so you can taste the fresh crab. I noticed a lot of people leaving negative reviews that the crab had no flavor or it was bland. This is exactly how you're supposed to enjoy a fresh crab sandwich. The more stuff added to the sandwich takes away the flavor of what you want to experience, which is the crab. The crab was definitely the star here. This is the best crab sandwich I've ever had. They were very generous with the portion of crab, I received, for a half sandwich. The sandwich was on the pricey side but that's expected, because crab isn't cheap. It was worth the price, to me. My husband's chicken piccata looked really good and came with a side of asparagus and pasta. He loved it. We both ate all of our food and were pleased and stuffed. The inside of this restaurant is very old fashioned and retro. You can tell that it has been here for a long time. It is decorated with a nautical theme. I thought it made the experience even better. I highly recommend coming here, if you're in the area. The food was amazing and customer service was excellent.

Coming to Nicks is relaxing and fun. It does feel a little bit like coming back in time with the wood paneling and big booths and that is part of the charm. Nicks is a Pacifica and Bay Area gem- they do not make restaurants like this anymore! Highly recommend the crab sandwich- get the full size one and it's enough to talk home half and have for an amazing lunch the next day. We also love the caesar salad- made with real anchovies and AMAZING caesar dressing- I have been trying to recreate the Nick's dressing at home without success. Shout out to Jim the waiter who is completely charming and kind and so nice to all his customers. We saw him helping an elderly gentleman with his walker all the way out the front door and then singing happy birthday to another diner. He is a class-act! Also the bartenders make an excellent lemon drop martini- it has freshly squeezed lemons, is always ice cold and the perfect swirl of rind accenting the glass. They really nail the perfect balance of crisp bright tartness with the sweet sugar on the rim. Be sure to leave extra time to come early and walk along the beach or linger after dinner and watch the waves and the sunset. You can see whales from the parking lot! This is a family place where you will see all generations dining. Yes it does sort of have "Boomer vibes" in a nostalgic way but that is part of the old fashioned charm of the place. The food and service are top notch and it's a top notch enjoyable evening! Friday and Saturday nights they also have live bands with couples dancing the music is always good even if you are just sitting in the dining room it is fun to hear and the dancing looks so fun!
