Invited to lunch and took a drive to Pacifica on the Beach. Restaurant is La Playa a long time favorite on the beach now across the street in the small shopping center.The entrance is inviting with a tropical motif. Sat at the bar and ordered a Cadillac Margarita and what a Margarita it was (see photos). To start had chips and salsa (salsa was fresh and roasted with a smoky flavor). Ordered a chile relleno which was the largest chile relleno I've ever had and it was the best I've ever had! Also ordered was enchiladas in a red chili sauce topped with sour cream and guacamole. Delicious! This is really a fun atmosphere with good food and the strongest margarita I've ever had. Hope to revisit sooner than later as this restaurant hit the mark on cocktails and food. So happy they're back! Chicken tortilla soup, garlic chicken soup, margaritas, Pedro and Gabe are all here serving the same delicious food and service. Went on a Thursday night during the World Cup and it was packed with the TVs playing sports games. A bit loud, but the windows on both sides of the restaurant give it an open feel. read more

The newest addition to the Linda Mar Shopping Center! Last night was the soft opening and what a spacious and beautifully decorated venue. La Playa serves Mexican food and has a full bar. Service is warm and friendly. My husband was admiring the countertops and the designer happened to be nearby and overheard his comments. Cline Original gladly shared some of the process to create the design from special wood and epoxy treatment. We also discovered that he was also behind the design for the wall art. The place is fun and family-friendly. We'll be back. read more

We didn't see you and we were sitting where we could see the entire restaurant. The time was probably 7:30-8p and to be honest it wasn't that crowded. Not like we've seen other times. I have eaten at La Playa for many years but they recently moved and I wanted to update my review. I had the chicken tostada which was tasty and fresh. It did take longer than usual to be delivered to the table and not all of us got our plates at the same time. My daughter ordered the special halibut tacos but got just the halibut. When she bright the platter to the owner and explained what happened the owner was not receptive or wanting to fix it (strange response) when they checked the receipt they saw that she did order the tacos. The owners resistance to correcting was not customer friendly. Another strange thing was the complimentary chips tasted stale, I have never experienced that before. I'm going to try La Playa again thinking it's just the reopening. read more

First time here. The man taking orders was very nice and answered all my questions. The place is nicely decorated. They give you salsa and chips to start. These were very good. My husband had steak and eggs;he liked it. My son had the garlic soup with chicken. He liked it, but I didn't think it had much flavor. I had the chicken and steak fajitas. It was ok. The meat was ok, but the peppers and onions were swimming in grease. The black bean and rice were ok. The guac tasted like it was from a can. The corn tortillas were so hot and would come apart; I didn't eat them. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. They didn't ask if I wanted a receipt and I forgot to ask. And the napkins were terrible. I used so many because they were small and not very absorbent read more

I stopped by yesterday after seeing how busy the place was and figured the food had to be great. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype. The chips were stale, although I'll give credit where it's due, the salsa was actually really good. I ordered a margarita, and it was just... okay. A margarita is usually hard to mess up, so that was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere wasn't my favorite either. It was incredibly loud, with people practically yelling across the restaurant. Some background music would've gone a long way in making it feel more enjoyable. Overall, the prices were reasonable, but the food and drinks just didn't impress me. It wasn't the best Mexican food I've had. I'm willing to give it another shot sometime, but next time I'll probably skip the margarita and stick with a beer. read more

I've had a lot of Mexican food (in MX), and I'm picky -- this place is the best North of the border! Their food is so fresh and I can't find a good chicken tortilla soup anywhere, but La Playa delivers an AMAZING bowl every single time. I've loved everything I've tried, and the staff are very kind. They also make a mean margarita, which I love! The only thing about the old place was the noise--my dad is deaf in one ear and HOH in the other,band I have a Deaf sister and bestie, but I can't bring him here when they visit due to the noise. UPDATE ON NEW LOCATION! I love the new location, but it's still super loud. but, hey, a full house means people are supporting the business! The layout is awesome, so much more room, the bar is stellar, as always, and their new restroom set up is great (sinks outside the toilet rooms). 20/10 recommend! read more

The food is ok, the place is beautiful, the prices are high, & the woman owner is awful, very rude woman, being mean to staff in front of customers, her dog has free roam of the restaurant, which is gross in itself, eating crumbs under the table, but also some people are afraid of dogs, it should not be roaming the restaurant. Head south to some great Mexican restaurants with nice employees & no dogs. read more

It has only gotten better since they moved into Linda Mar shopping center. While it can be a little noisy during peak hours they consistently serve up excellent food and drinks. They have, IMO, the best chili verde I have ever had, and very generous portions in all of their fish dishes. The fish tacos are especially good. read more

2.5 stars I waited a while before trying out the new spot because I really wanted to give this place a chance to iron out the kinks. I was genuinely hopeful to have a new place to dine in Linda Mar. We did a drive-by first to make sure it wasn't too busy. There were people there and plenty of open tables, so we decided to stop. Unfortunately, the first impression wasn't great. The menu already had a price increase, with Post-it notes and Sharpie markings showing that most items had gone up a couple of dollars. Not exactly the polished first impression you'd expect from a brand-new restaurant. You order at the counter, and the guy taking orders seemed like he really didn't want to be there. That vibe was immediately noticeable, and the whole experience felt unwelcoming. At that point, we were already wishing we had just driven over the hill for better service. The restaurant was also noticeably dirty, which unfortunately echoes what other reviews have mentioned. There were tables and other areas that hadn't been bussed. There were quite a few regulars who seemed perfectly comfortable, but as first-time customers, we didn't get the same welcoming feeling. We waited about 10 minutes for our drinks. Eventually, my husband got up and asked for our drinks. Meanwhile, the woman working at the bar was spending a lot of time chatting with the regulars. And then there was the food. Unfortunately, it was pretty underwhelming. The fajitas were swimming in juice. At one point we wondered, Are these fajitas or a stew with bell peppers and onions? The chicken and shrimp fajitas I ordered was disappointing--the chicken was dry, bland, and tasted like it had been sitting around, while the shrimp was overcooked. For a $25-$30 fajita plate, I expected better or at least freshly cooked/grilled. It's really unfortunate because Linda Mar could use some good new dining options. Between Nations and now La Playa, I'm finding myself pretty disappointed with the newer options in the area. The new space is nice, and the mountain views are a plus, but beyond that, I don't see much reason to rush back anytime soon. We have so many good taquerias in town, and based on this experience, La Playa won't be one I recommend for a while. Hopefully, they take the early reviews seriously and make some changes... the space itself has potential but as a restaurant, I expect higher standards across the board. read more

Seems they're still serving the very stale chips mentioned in reviews from a month ago. Small plastic "to-go" containers are used for the salsa. The guac was flavorless. Tables sticky. Noise level was like standing next to a jet engine- the whole place was screaming, including bunches of little kids whose unfazed parents let them run all over and jump on the couch. It was like a preschool animal house. Not the restaurant's fault but patrons had ZERO respect for the place and others there. Horrible behavior. Understaffed, harried workers, dirty tables and no wait staff do not make for an enjoyable experience especially considering the prices. If you're gonna try it I recommend take out. No chips. I was very pleased with the new atmosphere and remodeled restaurant. They have a great view of the shopping center out of large open windows that open to the air when it's warm. Nice big screen TVs for sports. Decorated beautifully. Nice big bar. But the one big thing everybody in town was hoping for was an improvement in their menu and quality of food at this important juncture. The food has not improved one bit. It's still below average. And this is very troubling because they had a chance to do an upgrade in this department, but failed to do so. Oh well, at least it's a place to go have a drink and watch sports on the big screen TV. read more

Worst service ever. Sat at a dirty table for 40 min after we already paid. My kids were so uncomfortable, all we had was stale chips while we waited for someone to clean our table. By the time someone came to finally clean it, my husband was already asking for a refund respectfully and was given a bad attitude by the manager. Never again would come here. We went to puerto 27 instead and were so appreciative to just have the bare minimum right when we got there. A clean table, some water, and nice people. read more

Upon entering the set up just doesn't make sense. there is a line to order food, but the menus aren't easly accessible. Placed an oder for a chicken chimichanga with no bell peppers. got my order and it was full of bell peppers. pinto beans were still, hard. rice wasn't that great either. Went to place a to go order while standing there i could see thw cooks grabbing meat with no gloves, then proceeded to touch other food with the same hand. none of the cooks were washing their hands after touching other food or wearing gloves. There was a lot of cross contamination. Very under staffed. I just hope I don't get food poisoning. read more

As much as I wanted to love this place the staff here is NOT welcoming at all. Really disappointed with EVERY interaction I had with each worker here. You would think they would have excellent service given that they are a freshly opened business. Fingers crossed they figure out how to put a smile on their face to welcome their guests or else I fear this might be a downfall to the place. Hate to give such a harsh rating, but nothing was redeeming about our experience. The chips were stale, the guacamole was not great, the main entrees were kind of flavorless. Super noisy, hard to have a conversation, most tables are two tops or small four tops, so hard for a group of five. Food came out at different times, with one person not getting their food until everyone else was finished. Most of the staff with the exception of a female server were curt and grumpy. This is hands down best restaurant in Pacifica or dare I say on the coast . The owner has done a beautiful job on new place and her team is like a fine tuned machine . Every one of them from the chef and cooks I take my hat off and bow . They are incredible oh yeah and their food is great . If I could give them 100 stars I would . Thank you read more
