We had heard such great things about Hula Hoops and were excited to come for Mother's Day brunch. When we arrived Sunday morning, we were seated right away, which was great. However, our party of six was seated with only three food menus and five drink menus. I asked our waitress if we could get additional menus for the rest of the table, and she explained they had run out and were waiting for other guests to finish with theirs. We ended up asking if there was a QR code version we could scan, and she brought one over. I was mostly confused why the QR code wasn't offered immediately, knowing half the table didn't have menus to begin with. It just made the start of the experience feel a little disorganized. That said, there were definitely some positives. The sparkling cider for Mother's Day brunch was a really nice touch, and the Shanghai lumpia was fantastic. I ordered the two-protein silog breakfast with eggs, and while the flavors were good, the single scoop of rice just didn't feel proportionate to the rest of the plate. Any Filipino knows you need a little more rice to balance everything out, so I ended up not finishing my meal because it felt off portion-wise. This was my 2nd time coming to Hula Hoops and it was just as good as I remembered! My group ordered the Kalua Pork Loco Moco (which is what I ordered the first time) as well as the Sisig Fried Rice and Kamehameha BBQ Chicken, and for my drink, I ordered the Pina Paradise, mostly because it came in a pineapple. My favorite of the three was the Kalua Pork Loco Moco! The Mac salad that comes along with it is some of my favorite Mac salad I've had too. All entrees were delicious though! My husband and I had been looking forward to a relaxed Saturday brunch at Hula Hoops. We've been here before for dinner, happy hour, and takeout, but this was our first time trying their brunch. I was especially excited because I was craving comfort food. Loco moco is one of my favorite Hawaiian dishes, and at the time, I was in my third week of recovery from a mastectomy. After being mostly indoors for almost three weeks, I was really looking forward to sitting outside, enjoying a little sunshine, and having a slow, comforting meal. When we asked to sit outside, I felt a little discouraged because the host kept suggesting we sit inside instead. Even after we started heading to the outdoor table, she followed up again to ask if we were sure. I understand she may have just been trying to help, but in that moment, I really needed the fresh air and sun. Since it was Saturday brunch and the restaurant was very quiet, with only us and another party inside, we thought it would be okay to take our time. But as we were eating and chatting, we started to feel rushed. Plates were cleared while I was still eating, we were told to let them know when we were ready for the bill, and later, the remaining plates were cleared -- even the saucer from the coffee I was still drinking. Shortly after, the bill was brought to us. I completely understand that restaurants need to turn tables when they're busy, but because there were very few customers at the time, the experience felt a bit uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I don't want to assume anyone's intention, but it did feel like we were being encouraged to leave sooner than we expected. The food was okay, but for me, warm and genuine service matters just as much -- especially when you're hoping for comfort, care, and a happy brunch experience. I was really hoping this visit would feel relaxing and restorative, but unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed. I hope this was just an off day, because we've visited Hula Hoops before and wanted to enjoy this brunch as much as our past experiences. Super cute tiki bar restaurant and bar nestled away in a strip mall in South SF. You would never suspect that this place tucked in the very corner, practically out of sight was home to such a perfect little tiki bar! The inside is decked out just on the right side before getting too tacky. There is a little stage for live performances - we have yet to catch one but hope to one day. There is a bar, high tops around the bar, and standard tables/booths in the middle and along the right wall. Service can be a bit slower sometimes to get seated and get orders in, but food and drinks come out quickly once you get orders in. The food here used to be very disappointing but they have corrected that and everything is very good now! We love the fries (less so the sauce that comes with), the lumpia is good, spam masubi is good, kalua pork sliders are solid, ahi poke tacos are yummy, and we are still excited to explore the rest of the menu. It was just me and my mini, they asked if we had a reservation but we didn't. We were able to sit down without a reservation right away if I was ok with a high seating table area. This place is just fun. Walked in with decorations not just to fit the aloha vibes but also just in time for halloween. Its clean and decked out from the entrance all the way to their bathrooms. Food is on par with the ambiance. I got the sisig trio and my partner got the combo loco moco (mochiko chicken and beef patty). I loved that each entree in the trio tasted different. For the longanisa, they used a link sausage like texture weiner and it had the classic sweet n sour taste. Pork loin had nice bbq like smokiness accompanied by the sweetness from the marinade. The shredded sisig balanced the two out with a more onion-ey, garlicky aroma. Over easy egg was cooked well, with nice runny yolk. Couldn't really taste the garlic in the garlic rice but texture was damp, soft and slightly buttery. A very nice addition was the pickled daikon and carrots to help balance out the heaviness of this dish. Loco moco was delicious. The beef patty reminded me of a hamburger steak style patty. The fried chicken cutlet was crispy and paired well with the gravy. Service was great too with waters being refilled, and team covering each other's table as they took breaks. I had Kamehameha BBQ Chicken. It was excellent. I'ver eaten plenty of Hawaiian BBQ and HH is most definitely a level up. Everything was very high quality. It's always disappointing when a place that used to be a favorite no longer lives up to expectations. Here's what we ordered: * Pan Roast - 3/5. A little fishy and underwhelming. * Chicken & Waffles (Buttermilk and Ube) - 3/5. Both felt like they'd been sitting around. The chicken was only lukewarm, and the eggs tasted like they'd been cooked in a batch and left out. The buttermilk waffle was soft, flat, and deflated, while the ube waffle was crispy but had a grainy, powdery flavor that overpowered the dish. * Spicy Spam Rice Bite - 4/5. Tasty, but not something I'd go out of my way to recommend. * Combo Silog Breakfast - My husband's pick; he said it was fine (around 4/5), but I didn't try it myself and didn't get a picture. The highlights were definitely the coffee and the service. The staff were friendly, attentive, and checked in on us several times, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, for $160 ($40 per person without cocktails), the food just didn't measure up. For the price, we expected much more. Honestly, Taste and Glory in my neighborhood delivers a better meal, so we'll be sticking closer to home next time. read more

We walked in and were greeted pleasantly with a comment from the manager about my pregnant wife on how far she is. She asked us to input our number and name even though there were no reservations. Thought that was weird. She solicited us for her to get a fresh coconut for the baby. They brought out an alcoholic drink and my wife drank it realizing it was alcohol. They didn't even take off the drink they got wrong and gave my pregnant wife alcohol. The food was good I guess. We got bibinka corn bread, ube pancakes, loco moco, and spam masubi. It was good don't get me wrong. Also it was $93 for 2. So do what you will with that. Guess you paying for atmosphere too. It was overall good, it's just annoying how they gave my pregnant wife alcohol and still had the balls to still bill for the drink. And when we were paying, she asked to see my ID. Like the vibes were cool but we were chilling the whole time. Idk. I gotta give it 1 star because of that principle. The principle of that I get mistakes happen, but you decided to be cheap over being a decent human being concerning someone developing life. And I'm a cheap mothertrucker, mind you. The food here was so good I came back a 2nd time within the same week for brunch. I was greeted warmly upon arrival and luckily there wasn't a wait both times I went. Service was fine. The menu has a lot of interesting items and tasty-looking drinks. I've tried the Eggs Benedict with Crispy Chicken, Ube Pancakes, Ubelicious, and Ube Latte. -Eggs Benedict with Crispy Chicken is a must-have. The cornbread base is unique and super tasty against the egg and fried chicken. The side potatoes and salad were good too. -Ube Pancakes were also good but not my personal favorite. Not sure if it's because it's vegan, but the purple color topping looked a bit too strong/unnatural -Ubelicious is essentially a smoothie and very refreshing -Ube Latte came with the espresso portion in a separate cup. Interesting presentation to preserve the purple color of the ube portion. The latte was good I thought that the ube overwhelmed the coffee flavor, oh well Overall. I had a good experience here. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the 3% credit card surcharge and the fees listed in the menu, but at least they're upfront about it in their menu. It just made me feel guilty and uncomfortable without even doing anything wrong, but I understand that there can be a lot of rowdy customers and it can really hit a business hard when things go south and customers aren't accountable. read more
