This place is so cool! I came here with some friends to visit sf and it did not disappoint. We got drinks and chatted. The drinks were pretty small but delicious! We got grifters game, golden idol (add rum) and golden idol (na). Our server was knowledgeable as well. This place reminds me a lot of rainforest cafe, where the animals would come alive like every 15 min and a storm would come through every 30 min as they also had a bunch of sound and light effects regularly. It can be a lot if you aren't expecting it but definitely adds to the experience. I would definitely recommend to check this place out and I'll definitely be back! read more

I tried the Permanent Midnight, a rum-based coffee cocktail with coconut, pandan and banana which turned out to be too sweet for me. It reminded me of an espresso martini and unfortunately was a bit one note as I didn't get any pandan or banana. I also got the Zombie Killer, another rum-based drink with coconut, pineapple and cinnamon which I enjoyed more. This one was more creamy and better balanced. Last Rites was a pretty dang fun time. The ambiance is pretty sweet, love the feeling of being inside a plane. It was also hella cool how the entire place lights up if you order the right drink, really fun. My only small gripe is comparing it to something like Smuggler's Cove, the prices are the same, but the drinks here are very much smaller and less complex. Our waitress, totally great, she was friendly, funny, and super attentive even though it was busy. We ended up smashing through 5 drinks shared between the 2 of us, and they were all very tasty, except the Emerald Eclipse... to be fair to the waitress that suggested it, and Last Rites itself, I DESPISE mezcal, and just didn't realize that's what was in it. We tried to order the Permanent Eclipse but it was not available at the time, so she recommended the Eclipse. Mezcal should be erased from the surface of the earth, and should not be mentioned in any history books. Make it go away. Walked away with some super cool Mai Tai glasses, and we were more than a little tipsy when we started our trek back to BART. I could see myself coming back here with some friends, but hopefully they get some more rum based concoctions on the menu! read more

My friends and I were picking a place to catch up on a Thursday night and we decided to get drinks at Last Rites. Why? Because I read someone's Yelp review that this Tiki bar was like the Rainforest Cafe but for adults and I was sold immediately. Upon entering, you're met with a destroyed plane at the bar and a giant skull in the back, what's not to love?! The menu and drinks followed the campy theme and I ended up getting their Violet Vixen, which I adored. On top of it all, it happened to be Bingo night so we got to play Bingo, savor our refreshing cocktails, and catch up with friends. For the cocktails: If you're looking for a no-ABV mocktail, I would highly recommend the Golden Idol [5/5]. This is so good that every time I come, I order it! We also tried the No Doctor on Board [4/5] meant for two. It has a very strong alcoholic taste. My only complaint about Last Rites is that the service is SOOO slow for a bar. They have lots of space, great seating, and fantastic cocktails. The bathroom was clean, nice. We got menus and bingo cards, ready to play. The best way I can describe this Tiki bar is that it's like Rainforest Cafe for adults. Dark, fun, and mysterious vibes inside with plenty of nooks for friends or couples to hang out. We hit up Last Rites just as they were opening on Halloween and the vibe was festive with scary movies and spidery decor. The setting is crashed airplane and the drinks are Tiki style. Last Rites was our last stop of the night and it was so much fun! We got right in late on a Saturday night. The vibe is super cool--jungle crash site meets tiki bar, with thunderstorm effects that really set the mood. We had an amazing waitress, she was super funny, attentive and she got our drinks to us very quickly, especially for how busy it was with several large parties. As for the drinks: they were beautiful and on-theme, though I felt they lacked some of the complex flavors you'd expect from a great tiki cocktail. I would say my favorite one of the night was the Zombie killer followed by the Kali Maa's Doom. Least favorite was the Emerald Eclipse, it was honestly difficult to finish. We didn't realize that it had Mezcal in it since it was suggested to us to try since they were out of what we wanted, but honestly for me Mezcal has no business in Tiki drinks so we didnt even think to check! One of the coolest parts of the night was the Caldera's Curse. Every time someone ordered it, the entire bar's atmosphere shifted--lights, sound effects, and the drink itself came out with a fiery show. Super fun and theatrical. Two of us arrived at 10:15 and wasn't let in even though they closed at 11:00. Bartender said it was last call, so we were left outside in the cold. Then two of her friends arrived and she let them in. Bouncer was really apologetic, at least. Two problems... First,if you say you close at 11:00 then customers should be let in until closing. What a cool cocktail bar! The occasional lightning flashes and thunder, Christmas bulbs strung through the jungle foliage, and crashed airplane decor created a fun atmosphere. My party of six walked in without a wait at 11:30 pm on a Friday night, and we managed to snag a booth as another group was leaving. Otherwise, there were a couple spaces open for smaller parties and standing room. Table service worked out well since it wasn't too crowded. I like that the online version of the menu had pictures for all the pretty drinks. The drinks took a little while to come out, but mine was memorable and definitely worth the wait. My Violet Vixen was fantastic and tasted more floral from the lavender than fruity from the lychee. As a frozen/ice blended drink, the ice consistency was perfect and not too chunky or icy. The Lion's Paw with honeycomb garnish and Kali Maa's Doom were also tasty although the torched marshmallow and watermelon was an interesting garnish combination for the latter. The Permanent Midnight was too strong for me. The drink itself was aesthetic, with a nice rosy/lavender color and edible flowers on top. I felt that the drink had a good blend of alcoholic taste along with sweetness, and the menu also listed the drinks from sweet to bitter making it easy for everyone to order. I had been wanting to try this spot for a minute and I'm so glad I did! This is a tiki bar that has a plane crash/survivor type of theme. Hands down my favorite bar in SF. I've been here many times, and it has never disappointed. Timing is critical because the lines do get quite long but at least the inside never gets too full / stuffy. Once in, it usually takes a bit to get a seat but the vibe and drinks are all worth it! The inside decor is super cool and non-tacky looking (which many tiki bars end up looking like, in my opinion). They always have fun themes going on -- I went for halloween and there was a missing persons type theme, which was spooky but fun. The decor is on point, which elements of both tiki and whatever other theme they're doing at the time. We got the "happy birthday" drink to share among a bunch of us and it came with candles! Second time here and the vibes have been amazing every time. The lightning is moody, the music is tastefully not too loud, and a mysterious fog in the air to really tie things together. It feels sophisticated yet perfectly delivers the tiki/jungle theme with abundant fake foliage all around In terms of drinks, I got the violet vixen and I also tried the red harvest. -- Violet Vixen -- On the sweet side (especially since there's sugar sprinkled on top) and very lavender-y. The description says lychee but I couldn't really taste it. I could taste the alcohol -- Red Harvest -- I've never tried Bing Zhou and it wasn't bad! This is on the more bitter side with a bit of a fruit aftertaste. Nomming on the leaves also provided a fun and numbing experience for my tongue. There is a lot of ice in this drink. I've also tried the Grifter's Game previously and I can only remember that I liked it since it was more than a year ago In terms of service/wait time, I did wait outside in line for ~30 minutes both times. My second time here, it was much easier finding a table since the party was much smaller. They did bring water over to us, but the cups were a little suspiciously dirty so we got new ones. As big fans of tiki bars, we were excited to check out Last Rites. From the start, we were impressed with the super friendly service and fun ambiance. Once we realized it is the sister bar of Horsefeather, another of our favorites in the city, we had high hopes. _As soon as you step inside, you step inside to a dark, jungle atmosphere with the wreckage of a plane looming over the bar. The vibes are spot on, and capture the intended atmosphere perfectly, without feeling overly cheesy or cheeky. To start, I got the Lion's Paw while my partner got the Permanent Midnight. The Lion's Paw was very refreshing and quaffable with a nice fruitiness, while the Permanent Midnight had a rich and complex flavor, with a nice banana aftertaste. For the second round, I got the Last Rites while my partner got the Blood Moon. The Blood Moon had a nice combination flavors with citrus, sparkling wine and the mezcal providing a nice balance of Tang, smoothness and smokiness, but our favorite of the night was definitely the Last Rites. The namesake drink of the bar did not disappoint; although strong, the drink was incredibly smashable with a beautiful blend of flavors that finished with a nice saltiness from the salted molasses. Unfortunately my experience at Last Rites was not a great one. I really wanted to like the place because the interiors and drinks were great, but it more than just the rum that left a bitter taste after our visit. Wee waited 45 minutes to receive our drinks and that was after flagging down two different servers to take our order after waiting for 20 minutes. The same servers tended the two parties on either side of us and both parties were able to sit down, order, finish their drinks, and leave before we even got our drinks. I had to flag a server again and was given the response that the drinks were on their way, but at that point the bar was clearing out at 11:30 pm and the bartenders were mostly cleaning. It seems that they may have forgotten our drink orders because after I had flagged the server, they came out within minutes. Overall, our experience here wasn't great and we'll just stick out our regular tiki bar haunts instead. I'm sure that there must've been some sort of miscommunication between the servers as it was initially busy when we walked in, but after seeing how all other other tables were being tended to but ours, I will not be recommending this place to friends read more

Everybody behind the bar was very helpful and a good hang, which was important to me since I was traveling alone/flying solo. My only gripe was that I had a really hard time getting in and out of the bar stools, which are like airplane seats. They really add to the atmosphere, and they look super cool, but (maybe because I'm a bigger girl) they presented a challenge to my comfort and I kept slamming the back of my barstool into the guy sitting next to me, oops. Such a fun tiki bar! The theme is supposed to be a plane lost in the jungle. I've been wanting to come here for the longest time and finally stopped by on a Saturday evening. I came as a party of 3 around 8 PM and didn't have any issues finding a spot to sit. When I left, there was a line waiting to get in, so definitely encourage to come early if you don't want to wait. The decor of this place is impeccable. The dark lighting coupled with the lightning and thunder sound effects are amazing. One of the best well-thought out tiki bars I've been to. We ended up getting the Caldera's Curse to split between the 3 of us for $60. Such a fun drink that gets set on fire! They could make it without the cashew orgeat, which was nice because one of the people in my group had a nut allergy. The drink was quite strong in alcohol taste and not my preferred type of alcohol but I'd still recommend it for the experience. Then, I got the Kali Mama's Doom, which was so good in flavors and comes with a toasted marshmallow and watermelon on top. The extra garnishes really added to the fun of the drink. One of the coolest tiki bars I've been to!!! Did have to wait in line outside for ~15 mins or so. The interior is insane -- it's designed after a plan crash in the jungle. There's skulls, jungle noises, random "thunderstorms", fog machines, rain sounds. This place can get kind of packed but staff is super attentive. My friend and I were standing for a bit till some seats opened up. The staff comes up, takes your order and bring drinks right to you! They bring you physical menus but there are QR codes on all tables too. I got the zombie killer which was so good -- tropical, fruity but not too sweet. My friend ordered the long goodbye.
