Came around 2:30 not very busy. Had a Cerveza preparada, delicious. Not to be missed . Also had the rock cod fixed ranchero style. Trying something outside of the normal, I was not disappointed. Definitely worth it. Will come back to try the oysters . The fish yes get . The cerveza preparada get!!! Service is great. And food tasty.
My favorite local family owned restaurant. Very attentive to their customers and food is always delicious and fresh. The drinks are great and I especially love the micheladas. They often have live music and karaoke which creates a fun and inviting atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the San Bruno area!
New items on the menu are so fire! Definitely recommend! Service was very fast this time around and the music playing in the background had the tequila going down like water!
We stopped by lunch. 4x al pastor tacos $12 and lengua super nachos $17. The restaurant was 1/2 full. The food came out within 10 minutes. That's great for those of us that have only an hour for our lunch breaks. The food tasted fine. There's was a smokey flavor to their refried beans in the nachos. Good job staff at Mar Y Mar.
Stopped by for some fish tacos, an octopus tostada, and an agua de hibiscus. Overall, the food was decent -- not my absolute favorite, but still enjoyable. The shrimp was a bit on the chewy side, and while everything tasted fine, it didn't totally wow me. The octopus tostada had good flavor, though. The agua de hibiscus was actually one of the highlights -- perfectly balanced, not too sweet and not too plain. Super refreshing and definitely something I'd order again. The ambiance is lively and energetic, especially with the singers, but it does get pretty loud. It's open seating, so you walk in and find your own table until someone comes by with menus. Service was okay -- not super attentive, but friendly enough. On the plus side, the food came out quickly, which is always appreciated. Overall, I'd give it 4 stars. If it were a little less loud and the service a bit more attentive, it would easily be a stronger rating. Still a solid spot for a casual meal!
Ive been coming here for many years, and for good reason. The tacos, fried whole fish, campechana and drinks bever disappoint. Then add the amazing staff and welcoming personalities, make you never want to leave. It gets crowded, as it should and at times service could be slow, so be patient, but quality food takes time to make.
I ordered the taco dinner, which was very well prepared and served in generous portions. The flavors were well balanced, and the meal was both satisfying and filling. Although I did not take photos of the shrimp cocktail, it was excellent--fresh, well seasoned, and reminiscent of authentic Mexican cuisine. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience and a meal I would confidently recommend. Pedí la cena de tacos, que estaba muy bien preparada y servida en porciones generosas. Los sabores estaban bien equilibrados, y la comida fue satisfactoria y abundante. Aunque no tomé fotos del cóctel de camarones, era excelente: fresco, bien sazonado y que recordaba a la auténtica cocina mexicana. En general, fue una experiencia gastronómica agradable y una comida que recomendaría con confianza.
Three stars is appropriate, but I'd come back if I were in the area. Feels authentic, since they default to Spanish when talking to you. I definitely look like a gringo, but my Spanish is pretty good, so I didn't mind. They bring chips and salsa right away, but the salsa wasn't like anything I've had before. It was very thin without much chopped veggies. Kinda weird, to me anyway. Chili verde (pork) was good, I ate it all. I know it's a seafood place, but maybe next time I'll try that. Also, idk why everything is so damn expensive lately. This ain't taqueria prices. One margarita, one entree and one beer was $42 with tip.

Had the oysters which were excellent... super fresh and great with lime Also, had the whole fried red snapper which was cooked perfectly and really delicious. Kids enjoyed the chicken quesadillas, which were meaty and substantial. Enchiladas looked excellent as well. Overall food was great, service was fine if a bit inattentive, and the place just seemed like it could use a bit of a cleanup. Also, would have loved some homemade tortilla chips to go with the excellent salsa.
I was visiting family in the bay and was craving mariscos. The restaurant looks freshly remodeled so it definitely is modernized. The staff was very easy going and knew how to strike good conversation. I started off with what they call a preparada which to my understanding is their version of a Michelada. It was different but had a great taste so I had to order a second one. I also ordered a coctel de camaron y pulpo (shrimp and octopus) and it was right on the money. Everything tasted fresh and it didn't taste like Clamato and ketchup which I loved. To my understanding they have a live band every Friday. I would def recommend this if you're in the area.

And a 23 ounce of Pacifico on draft for $6. You cant beat this price for a big glass of beer on tap! Anyways, the chorizo, al pastor and carnitas tacos were freaking amazing. It's been a while that a taco made me say "wow" out loud. These were jam packed with flavor. Free chips and decently spicy flavored salsa. A big juke box that locals were playing good Mexican music on and gets kinda loud, which is fun but not if you want a conversation with someone I bet. I was alone for a work trip so it was awesome! Definitely coming back if I'm in the area!
This place never fails! Doesn't matter if you're craving an authentic Mexican platter or some seafood, they do it all and quite delicious too. FOOD: I usually go for the tostada de salpicon which is a mixture of shrimp and octopus or a coctel de camaron, but today I decided to change it up. I got the camarones à la española which is shrimp with a sliver of bell pepper, cheese and wrapped in bacon. In opinion, the slice of bell pepper was quite unnecessary, but regardless the dish was pretty good. I've also had their taco de asada but I upgrade to the arrachera meat which is skirt steak and soooo worth the $3 up charge. Comes in a hand made tortilla instead of the small street style one too. As we were sitting at the bar, I witnessed the bartender making drinks and they just didn't seem appealing. If you want an alcoholic drink, I'd suggest sticking with beer, shots of tequila or a michelada because like I said, the bartender didn't really look like she knew how to properly mix or make cocktails. SERVICE: On arriving, the lady had us sit wherever we wanted. We decided to sit at the bar as there was a small band playing there Saturday night. Service was attentive despite them being pretty busy that night. PARKING Can be difficult on the main street, but there always seems to be something available. Make sure to pay your meter because San Bruno loves ticketing. read more

Stopped by Mar Y Mar for lunch and grabbed a table on the front patio. It was a great spot to sit, relax, and people-watch while enjoying the neighborhood atmosphere. I ordered the campechana, a seafood cocktail with large shrimp, octopus, and oysters. It comes with two tostadas and plenty of crackers, which I appreciated since I prefer eating seafood cocktails with crackers. They were generous with the seafood and everything was served cold and drenched in flavorful cocktail juice. It was refreshing and delicious. I highly recommend it. My partner is vegetarian and ordered three veggie tacos. They were large and filled with beans, rice, onions, cilantro, and salsa. He really enjoyed the flavors and even wanted to order more to go. They also provide complimentary chips and salsa, which were very tasty. Overall, we had a great experience and I'd definitely come back to try more items on the menu. read more

I ordered Fish Ceviche thru Uber Eats and there was a huge half cut bug. I called Mar Y Mar and the lady that answered said I don't know what to tell you. I didn't make the fish Ceviche. read more

Such a cute spot! Came here on a Sunday and was seated in less than 5 minutes. The service was good as the workers were really nice. I got the super burrito with carne asada and the meat was perfectly chewy and easy to bite. There was also a good amount of sour cream and guac in the burrito which I liked. However, I wasn't really a fan of the tortilla as it was kind of hard but overall this place was great to try! read more
This was our second time back and we had the same experience. The place was busy with nearly every table filled, and mostly filled with happy Spanish speaking people which is a good sign. The salsa and chips are yummy. The service is really friendly, but maybe not so attentive. Granted they were busy on both occasions. If we wanted more drinks or the check, we had to wave someone down. Their platters always sound good but taste wise, they are only ok. We've tried the Camarones a la Diabla and a whole Fish. The sauce is spicy and flavorful with an odd after taste. I can't pinpoint it. The rice and beans are good but the salad has no dressing and the protein is over cooked. The Fish Ceviche and Shrimp Tostada were ok. The corn tortillas were great. Their Tacos, however, are really good. We had the Carnitas, Carne Asada, and Al Pastor, all made super. The meat was all flavored well. There was so much filling that I was able to split some with my tortillas to make another taco. My son had a flour Cheese Quesadilla. It was very large and so gooey. The cheese was of high quality, not oily, and melted really well. The cheese tasted yummy. My son loved his quesadilla. Their Cadillac Margaritas were outstanding. The Paloma was ok. I'm so glad they have a full bar. Plus they had a live band playing which we loved. It was Cinco de Mayo though, so I'm not sure if they play on regular nights. The shrimp cocktail is my favorite. The Micheladas are great. They have a full bar now and always a good drink or cocktail to pick from. This is my favorite mariscos lunch spot! The tacos are real good, the tostada de camarón, the huachinango frito, the camarones a la plancha, I can go on and on! The wait staff is friendly and personable. read more

First time here for lunch and I lalalalove seafood, and this deep fried snapper drenched in garlic butter was the star of my show, left nothing but bones behind. The service was nice and the plates came out fast and pipping hot. The food was delicious can't wait to try more of this menu. read more
My husband and I came here around 3-4pm and waited to be seated. The server was great and allowed us to choose where we could sit. We sat outside to enjoy the weather. My husband chose the SUPER AL PASTOR BURRITO & I had the SUPER SHRIMP QUESADILLA. I thought my shrimp was yummy in my quesadilla. I'd come back for that. read more

Have to be honest... overall it was a pretty underwhelming meal. I went with my husband and in-laws, and based off of the name of the restaurant I was really expecting some decent seafood. Hubs ordered the carne tampiqueña, my SIL got the Tejana, MIL a chicken quesadilla and I went for my go-to plato: Al Mojo de Ajo Camaron. My husband said the steak was pretty dry and has had better. My shrimp was overcooked and rubbery, and wasn't seasoned too well. Service was pretty good. We came around lunchtime, and it was pretty hectic, but they took good care of us. Not sure if I'd come back, but I had to I'd definitely try something else on the menu. read more

I sat at the bar top and the service was very prompt. Lue was very friendly! The prices on the menu are very reasonable and there were quite a few people in there drinking Micheladas and eating. I order chorizo and eggs which were good . The refried beans are very good , the rice could use some flavor , but not a little tapatio can't fix! I'd come back for sure when I get my car serviced again at Toyota! read more

Steak and cheese platter was like something from a Tv dinner at triple the price. There's nothing like a dry, tough piece of steak to make people think about converting to vegetarianism. But, even the cheese enchilada was cold and flavorless. This was a big waste of money, but rounded up for the okay chips and the seafood that the other table said was okay. read more
