    The delicious food
    Jesse S.

Came around 2:30 not very busy. Had a Cerveza preparada, delicious. Not to be missed . Also had the rock cod fixed ranchero style. Trying something outside of the normal, I was not disappointed. Definitely worth it. Will come back to try the oysters . The fish yes get . The cerveza preparada get!!! Service is great. And food tasty.

We stopped by lunch. 4x al pastor tacos $12 and lengua super nachos $17. The restaurant was 1/2 full. The food came out within 10 minutes. That's great for those of us that have only an hour for our lunch breaks. The food tasted fine. There's was a smokey flavor to their refried beans in the nachos. Good job staff at Mar Y Mar.

Tacos de lungua y asada, con aguachile y una margarita de fresa

Ive been coming here for many years, and for good reason. The tacos, fried whole fish, campechana and drinks bever disappoint. Then add the amazing staff and welcoming personalities, make you never want to leave. It gets crowded, as it should and at times service could be slow, so be patient, but quality food takes time to make.

I ordered the taco dinner, which was very well prepared and served in generous portions. The flavors were well balanced, and the meal was both satisfying and filling. Although I did not take photos of the shrimp cocktail, it was excellent--fresh, well seasoned, and reminiscent of authentic Mexican cuisine. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience and a meal I would confidently recommend.

Three stars is appropriate, but I'd come back if I were in the area. Feels authentic, since they default to Spanish when talking to you. I definitely look like a gringo, but my Spanish is pretty good, so I didn't mind. They bring chips and salsa right away, but the salsa wasn't like anything I've had before. It was very thin without much chopped veggies. Kinda weird, to me anyway. Chili verde (pork) was good, I ate it all. I know it's a seafood place, but maybe next time I'll try that. Also, idk why everything is so damn expensive lately. This ain't taqueria prices. One margarita, one entree and one beer was $42 with tip.

I was visiting family in the bay and was craving mariscos. The restaurant looks freshly remodeled so it definitely is modernized. The staff was very easy going and knew how to strike good conversation. I started off with what they call a preparada which to my understanding is their version of a Michelada. It was different but had a great taste so I had to order a second one. I also ordered a coctel de camaron y pulpo (shrimp and octopus) and it was right on the money. Everything tasted fresh and it didn't taste like Clamato and ketchup which I loved. To my understanding they have a live band every Friday. I would def recommend this if you're in the area.

    Fried Red Snapper

Really great Mexican seafood spot on San Mateo Ave in San Bruno. Came in late on a Monday and really enjoyed ourselves. Had the oysters which were excellent... super fresh and great with lime Also, had the whole fried red snapper which was cooked perfectly and really delicious. Kids enjoyed the chicken quesadillas, which were meaty and substantial. Enchiladas looked excellent as well. Overall food was great, service was fine if a bit inattentive, and the place just seemed like it could use a bit of a cleanup. Also, would have loved some homemade tortilla chips to go with the excellent salsa.

5 tacos for $3 each and a 23 ounce beer on tap for $6. $5 side of beans. Great prices and flavor. Chorizo, al pastor and carnitas

Monday night: walked in around 8pm and it wasn't busy. Staff were very friendly. Prices and taste are even better! Got 5 tacos, ($3 each) and a side of beans ($5). And a 23 ounce of Pacifico on draft for $6. You cant beat this price for a big glass of beer on tap! Anyways, the chorizo, al pastor and carnitas tacos were freaking amazing. It's been a while that a taco made me say "wow" out loud. These were jam packed with flavor. Free chips and decently spicy flavored salsa. A big juke box that locals were playing good Mexican music on and gets kinda loud, which is fun but not if you want a conversation with someone I bet. I was alone for a work trip so it was awesome! Definitely coming back if I'm in the area!

    Super burrito

Such a cute spot! Came here on a Sunday and was seated in less than 5 minutes. The service was good as the workers were really nice. I got the super burrito with carne asada and the meat was perfectly chewy and easy to bite. There was also a good amount of sour cream and guac in the burrito which I liked. However, I wasn't really a fan of the tortilla as it was kind of hard but overall this place was great to try!

This was our second time back and we had the same experience. The place was busy with nearly every table filled, and mostly filled with happy Spanish speaking people which is a good sign. The salsa and chips are yummy. The service is really friendly, but maybe not so attentive. Granted they were busy on both occasions. If we wanted more drinks or the check, we had to wave someone down. Their platters always sound good but taste wise, they are only ok. We've tried the Camarones a la Diabla and a whole Fish. The sauce is spicy and flavorful with an odd after taste. I can't pinpoint it. The rice and beans are good but the salad has no dressing and the protein is over cooked. The Fish Ceviche and Shrimp Tostada were ok. The corn tortillas were great. Their Tacos, however, are really good. We had the Carnitas, Carne Asada, and Al Pastor, all made super. The meat was all flavored well. There was so much filling that I was able to split some with my tortillas to make another taco. My son had a flour Cheese Quesadilla. It was very large and so gooey. The cheese was of high quality, not oily, and melted really well. The cheese tasted yummy. My son loved his quesadilla. Their Cadillac Margaritas were outstanding. The Paloma was ok. I'm so glad they have a full bar. Plus they had a live band playing which we loved. It was Cinco de Mayo though, so I'm not sure if they play on regular nights. Our previous visit was on a Saturday afternoon.

The seafood boil seasoning had great flavor -- rich, buttery, garlicky, and packed with Cajun spice without being overly salty. Portions were generous, and the food still tasted flavorful even after delivery. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the shrimp didn't taste as fresh as I had hoped, and unfortunately two of the clams appeared to be dead before cooking. That was a little disappointing for a seafood-focused restaurant. Overall though, I still enjoyed the meal and would order from them again. Chewy buttery and soft in texture. Don't skip this. * garlic shrimp- this was recommended by the cashier but it was quite lacking in depth of flavor with the primary taste just being garlic. No spice, nothing special to stand out. After a while the sauce gets tiring. Mac salad was prominently peppery but bland in both texture and flavor. * Mochiko chicken - Not bad, crunchy battered chicken. Interior of the chicken was juicy but lacking in that distinct strong sweet savory that mochiko chicken is known for. Again, the mac salad was a letdown. Overall, the food was quite average especially for the price point. I can think of two places in SJ with better Hawaiian food for half the price.

The fried rice was the worst dish we tried, even after asking for soy sauce (and only receiving three packets), it didn't improve. There were a few highlights: the dumplings were good, and the egg rolls were just okay, though they had an odd flavor I couldn't quite identify. It was some kind of spice or herb. The General Tso's chicken and garlic orange chicken were both solid, and the chow mein was decent. Ordering was frustrating. Several items we wanted--the pineapple beef, shaking beef, and Kung Pao chicken--were all unavailable. We also tried to order a pineapple soju, but they didn't have it, so we settled for peach instead. The decor was nice, but the dining experience felt lacking. Food was served in to-go containers with paper plates, cups, and plastic cutlery, which took away from the experience.
