Food was pretty good. Bit awkward walking through the bar to get to hostess stand. Quickly seated - I went to restroom before sitting - waitress took my husband and boys drink orders while I was gone. Within one minute of sitting down she wanted our food orders - stated I need a minute or two I just sat down so gave her my drink order "she says well then I will get that first" - well yes since I am not ready to order. Placed our order felt very rushed to make a choice. The buser brought us some bread - 3 little pieces for four of us. Soon as basket was empty he grabbed it. My son had to ask for some more bread when his cup of clam chowder arrived. Ordered Cup of Clam Chowder - pretty good flavor was very thin though Side Salad - good mix of greens but a lot of brown wilted pieces had one grape tomato, one slice of cucumber and a had full of kidney beans & chickpeas Thursday night special - Braised Short Ribs choose garlic mashed potatoes and veggies - short ribs had good flavor but sauce was very oily, veggies was mostly bok choy, mashed potatoes tasted like instant and had no season let alone garlic. (19.99) Ribeye Steak - good size cooked correct to order no seasoning on it, mashed potatoes same as above, creamed spinach good flavor had a little sweetness to sauce. (26.99) Fish & Chips - decent seasoning - pretty soggy breading was not crispy - French fries good (14.99) Philly Cheesesteak - nice sized sandwich but roll half full about 1 1/2 each end nothing but bread - full of onion and peppers more than meat (12.99) Lemonade cost same as a soda ($3.00) but you are not informed they do not give free refills on Lemonade until after they ask if you want a refill. Now for dining experience - we were ready to leave before our food arrived - it was so loud that my husband I was sitting next to could not hear me. We had to repeat ourselves to waitress a number of times. It was busy most the tables were full, it is a small dining room - but because of a guy at the corner table two tables from us was talking like he was taking to us everyone else was taking louder, two tables across from us 2 crying kids. You could not hear yourself think let alone talk to your party. Not once was anything said - but can understand when their waitress herself keep yelling across the dining from at the buser to do things. Speaking of him - twice he reached across my husband and son without even an excuse me are you done with that, would you like me to take it, just grabbed it. Nothing like armpit when your taking a bite of food. Finally couldn't take it anymore so just asked for a to go box. Was given book and 10 minutes later at an empty table cause buser had taken everything including napkins we still didn't have a check - finally ask the lady that was at hostess counter when she walked by if we could get our check ... Forget trying to read that they still use handwritten checks and it's unreadable - we could barely make out prices but sure could read total written right in the center and circled. there is a nice big tv in dining room which was nice since football game was on and was nice they had volume off so where not fight that noise too. Price for sandwich & fries and for the fish $ chips (which was 3 pieces if fish) was pretty pricy Other than the noise and feeling totally rushed through the whole meal it was ok nothing to rave about. read more

I hate leaving negative reviews, but this place is an unmitigated disaster. It's dark and filthy and it smells BAD. The waitress was outright rude. The worst part is the food. It is unedible. My burger had all kinds of smells and flavors that no food should have. My husband's fish and chips had a fishy smell. How one screwed up so royally a burger and fish and chips, is beyond me. After reading the reviews here it appears that they've listened because our experience was great all around and worthy of 5 stars. We were immediately greeted by a friendly staff and seated right away, we arrived at around 6(ish) on a Friday night to a sparsely occupied dining room. Our waitress was extremely friendly and prompt with our drinks, the wait/bus staff was also backing her up and these guys didn't miss a beat. Anytime we needed something they basically anticipated it and were one step ahead the whole time. Dinner was nice, fresh and tasty, we had fettuccine Alfredo and prime rib. This wasn't our first time here and one of the things we love about it his the rustic coastal town feel and the unique history on the walls as you enter. Yes, it appears a little dated but it's also part of he charm in my opinion. We'll continue going here every time we come to Pacifica. read more

My friends and I came to this place as a group of 7 for a friends birthday. This place doesn't look as nice on the outside, but the inside feels very homely and welcoming. The worker quickly greeted us and brought us to our reserved table. Our waiter was very nice and friendly, she even got my friend to eat his veggies! As for the food, I'm not really a steak person, so I ordered the Garlic Spaghetti. This dish was amazing! The spaghetti had the perfect amount of flavor and it was not too oily like other garlic spaghetti that I ever had. The portion was also good for me because I had about half leftover. I'm not exactly sure what everyone else at my table had, but I know that they were all satisfied, especially the birthday boy. We ordered him the Sirloin Steak with skewered pawns and he was truly amazed by the quality. He ordered his steak in medium rare and it was cooked exactly like that. This generation owned family restaurant seems to be struggling. I used to live in Pacifica and went there regularly. I recently came through and had a chance to eat on their patio and the food is just as good as ever. Fantastic crab sandwich. The beef is always on point. Sauces, dressings are made in house. These guys are going under slowly. They should just hang it up now before they just go under in a pile of garbage. I've been here twice in the last few months and the only thing keeping these guys afloat are the regulars because new customers aren't going to come back. The first time I went the waiter messed up my order but the elderly woman behind the bar (I'm pretty sure it's one of the owners) defended the waiter. I know he messed up my order because I'd studied the menu on line before going there. But because the woman was so insistent I didn't argue. So the second time I ordered what I wanted (veal scaloppini), and maybe I was biased because I had a poor experience the first time, but the food was so bland it was barely mediocre. It came with pasta that was also bland and boring. When I got the bill they charged me more than the menu price (my experience was bad enough that I wasn't going to argue with them about the little extra charge) and when I paid with a credit card they added a percentage because I paid with a card (I didn't see anything anywhere that was apparent that says they charge the additional fee). The elderly woman who was behind the bar the first time was also behind the bar the second time and she told me they charge the extra fee for using a credit card. If it was so apparent she could have pointed it out. And she was ready to argue about it. Charging an extra fee for using a credit card is, to me, a sign they really aren't making it financially. A couple of other people came in while I was there and they were very friendly with the people who worked there. One guy ordered an off-menu item so it was pretty clear he and his date were regulars. I've driven past this joint hundreds of times and always wondered what it was like, but I won't go back there because it's pretty much a disaster wobbling on its last leg. It's a good location, but the people who own and manage this joint ought to just retired and let someone else take it over/change it because it's a dying relic with barely passing food. read more

An older lady who looked like the owner had a sour face the whole time. I'm glad our nice waitress made up for it. We looked everywhere, and saw that Vallemar Station also had prime rib, so we got it from here instead. They are open during the quarantine, just call in for pickup. The woman at the bar wore a mask and gloves, and the food was already packed and ready to go when we got there 20 minutes later! My prime rib was excellent - tender, juicy, perfect. My husband and I love this place we have come to stay in Pacifica for our anniversary for the last three years and always eat here. The food is wonderful my husband always gets the cioppino (he has eaten this at several different restaurants and he says this is the best he has ever had) and I always get new york steak, we have never been disappointed. The service is great and the people are attentive and friendly, and even though the people who work here dont recognize us we see the same wonderful people each time we come. 30 or more years ago I'd come here for a "date night" and now I come with friends and family. It is a little dated but I like that, it's a bit of a throwback in contrast to the hip, trendy, modern joints. I think there's room for both types of ambiance. Portions are good and my favorites are the chowder, short ribs, pasta, cioppino, creamed spinach (side), etc. but on my most recent visit I was a little disappointed with my steak. It was a little thin for a NY, dry, and overcooked. It required steak sauce which a good steak should not. I would not be surprised if the steak had been previously frozen. The service is good, old school, and friendly. The greeter / seater who might be an owner may seem a little gruff but she takes care of business. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. I am continually impressed with the bus boys. They are really on top of things and helpful without being intrusive. Due the current situation with this covid-19 stuff so many places are closed but Vallemar is offering to go orders and I am sure glad we got dinner here! I called in my order the lovely lady on the line I had a nice little chat about where I lived, apparently she also lived in my area for 22yrs before moving back here( small world) she was just as nice as could be! She told me that my order would be ready in 15 minutes and boy she wasn't lying! Got in there and she had it all packed up for us. I had the Saturday special, the pork loin was tender, the veggies were the perfect Al dente, garlic mashed potatoes were real mashed potatoes (love that!) and I also got a side salad. My fiancé had the jumbo burger cooked to his liking. We got back to the hotel and ate every last bit. Thank you for dinner! Highly recommended! My husband and I were looking for a good restaurant while we were staying at a hotel in Pacifica. We discovered Vallemar Station and were delighted and impressed with the delicious food we obtained there. First, we deeply appreciate historic buildings still standing that house restaurants and provide a unique atmosphere both inside and out. We loved that Vallemar Station was situated in a 1908 railway station. Second, the menu is fantastic and it was hard to choose just two entrees for my husband and myself. Definitely has a wonderful array of entrees and appetizers. The loin lamb chops were excellent and cooked medium as he prefers. My Chicken Toscano which featured artichokes, fresh asparagus, zucchini and mushrooms in a light sauce was superb. We chose baked potatoes which are very hard to find these days and the creamy spinach and both were great. We finished off with a delicious cheesecake. Visited this place on the way back from Rock Away Beach. Atmosphere was very old town feel. Service was great. Had a craving for fried items. The food was OK, the prices were a little high, for lunch. $11.95 for soup and salad that was just OK. I should go for dinner and get the prime rib everyone talks about, but I won't. I went, with 2 friends and our 2 year old kids for lunch on a weekday. We wanted to go for lunch so we wouldn't bother people having a nice dinner. I try very hard to avoid messing up other people's dining experiences with my child. The place was completely empty and the kids were well behaved. No screaming, crying or throwing food, and lots of "thank you's" to the server. The issue was the server. When we sat down at the table she walked around the little corner and we heard her say "God, kids" with a very disgusted sigh. Our last friend was just walking in and saw her rolling her eyes and looking very put out. I would have left then and there, but we had started the order. The entire time we were there I felt like we were putting the waitress out by being there, not to mention by the kids presence. We ate as quickly as the slow service would allow, the waitress was on the phone and smoking her cig for a while outside, (we had to ask for drink refills) cleaned up after ourselves and left as quickly as possible. Again, I try hard to make good dining decisions when I have my kido with me. This will not be a place I will go back to, even for an adult only dinner. We originally set out to go to Nick's nearby. It had been a long day, and we were craving some seafood and steak. We arrived at Nick's, and a woman outside asked me for some $ so she could get a salad. It was a rather strange request, but I gave her some change, not really thinking much about it. We walked out, and the "salad" lady kept thanking me profusely, then asked me why we weren't eating there. Thankfully, Vallemar is NOT the Cheesecake Factory because the Cheesecake Factory SUCKS. If you are a fan of the Cheesecake Factory (or other large, chain restaurants that serve enormous quantities of low-quality, processed food), you probably won't like this restaurant. But, if what you are looking for is solid, American-style, fresh food served in a locally owned, low-key comfortable setting by uber friendly people, then this is the place to go -- particularly on a beautiful sunny day, when you can take advantage of the lovely, large patio seating. Vallemar is a fabulous, family-run establishment that serves yummy food and kick-ass drinks. The lemon drop and bloody Mary are on par with the best of them. Yes, the prices are on the high side -- but the food is also high quality, which warrants the extra $$. You won't leave feeling yucky -- even after eating virtually every deep-fried appetizer on the menu (which we did recently). Again, if your idea of venturing out is dinner at the Cheesecake Factory --OR if the Cheesecake Factory-ish restaurants are your kind of place -- you probably ought not come here. If you have a desire to dress up and eat really fancy food, this is probably not the place for you either. I've really enjoyed both times I have been to this restaurant for dinner. The first dinner was an impromptu one on a Friday night around 9:30. We were a party of 3, and hungry. I searched yelp for a place in Pacifica opened and serving food so late, and I'm pretty sure this was the only thing available. Much to our satisfaction, we arrived to a cozy bar and restaurant where our server was attentive and the food delicious. I ordered the clam chowder, clam & linguine; my husband ordered the ribs; our friend ordered the prime rib. Everything was cooked properly and very tasty. The second dinner we were a party of 6, including my in-laws from out of town and one of their friends. I ordered the ahi tuna steak, and quite a few of the gentlemen had pork chops. The garlic mash potatoes were yum, as was the creamed spinach. My mother-in-law mentioned her chicken dish was a bit on the salty side, but good regardless. The server on this occasion was also attentive and very sweet, even with a packed dining room. I'm not sure I could be more satisfied with this place. I love the crowd, the wait staff, and the old school feel. Just keep in mind the dining room isn't too large. We both ordered steaks medium-rare. Mine came out medium and tasted of lighter fluid. My wife's came out well-done. We came here kind of on a lark. We were bored one Sunday evening, so we decided to go on a field trip to Pacifica. (why not?) We loaded into the car, and drove down 280 and out Route 1, headed for the beach. Unfortunately, the place where we usually go (Nick's) was closed, so we had to try something different. So we whipped out Yelp Mobile on the Crackberry, and it recommended this place. We had seen it on the highway, and there wasn't a lot open in Pacifica on a Sunday evening (go figure). It looked like something straight out of the 70s or 80s (reminds me of that movie where Kiefer Sutherland's girlfriend got buried alive). We got here, and they said that the kitchen was closed (there was no one else at the restaurant). We asked where else we could get food, and were referred to some chains. But then the owner came over and said that we could get served. She handed us the menus. We had just been to a super bowl party, so no one was all that hungry. Plus, the food was pretty expensive for diner fare. So I ordered a bowl of Chili, which was like $8. One friend ordered a salad, and the other had the Chili Cheese Fries. They have a placard on the table that said they only serve water on request, which seems a bit tacky to me. Why not just ask you if you want water? Anyways, the food wasn't bad, although it wasn't exactly standout. My chili was pretty spicy. A bit heavy on the beans/meat ratio, but not bad. The bread they served with the food was very middling. The portions weren't huge - the bowl I got could have passed for a cup (it was probably worth $5-6). I guess that rent on the highway in Pacifica is pretty steep. Overall, fair. I would have given a higher rating but, I need to visit the place a second or more time to see. We visited the restaurant a couple of weeks ago with my sister and her children. I ordered my eggs benedict, one of my favorite food. It was good, actually better than Shari's in San Bruno and almost the same as Millbrae Pancake House I was a little uncomfortable with our waitress though, although she acknowledges our request and thank yous, she would say AHHHA instead of you're welcome, we asked for forks, etc, and she will say ahhhha, or AHA or ahhhhhaaaa. I almost walked out, till my sister and I saw that she was like that to everybody, so I thought, well its not personal she must really be so tired, its hard for her to acknowledge our request and thank yous properly. Another thing, I did not like the fact that she appears to shove the food at my face at one time. She later started serving us in a manner that showed a little courtesy. One of the redeeming entity of this place is the fact that the food was good, it arrived quite quickly and the price is affordable. Another redeeming entity was another employee, I do not know his exact title, but he was very attentive to us as far as filling our drinks, giving us our napkins, etc. I wish I am able to tip him at least 10 dollars, but the most I tip staff who are not our waitress or waiter is $5 as I cannot afford more than that at this time. read more
