Got their Wild Ahi Niçoise Salad which comes with organic artisan lettuce, tamari marinated and seared wild ahi tuna, green beans, organic egg, organic tomatoes, potatoes, capers, marinated olives, and my favorite is their light and tangy mustard-champagne vinaigrette which gives everything a touch of acid and compliments the ahi perfectly My husband enjoyed his salmon plate which came with two sides and he got the Roasted Brussels Sprouts which come in a light Balsamic Glaze and the Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes which come in garlic, basil, dill & chives which gives an otherwise starchy veg a nice fresh flavor. I also got their lemonade which was really refreshing although a little too sweet for my palate. Despite the proteins being made fresh to order, the wait was reasonable. It's a little loud inside, but they also have two outdoor seating areas, one in front of the restaurant and one out back. We're so lucky to have this place close to us. I am a plates pass member of course. We usually order out and the food is always consistent, healthy, fresh, and ready when they tell us. Today we ate inside the restaurant and Jay helped us with our order. He was so friendly and helpful. The customer service of this place is always excellent. I was super excited to finally try Urban Plates after hearing so many great things. The food looked amazing, and the atmosphere seemed promising. However, my first impression fell short the moment I walked in. The cashier--Angie, I believe, with black frame glasses--greeted me with a completely blank face. No smile, no "hello," no warmth at all. It honestly felt a little off-putting. As someone who owns a business myself, I know how important that first point of contact is. A simple smile and warm welcome can completely set the tone and energy for the customer experience. That said, the rest of the staff was very friendly--chefs and servers alike seemed upbeat and positive, which I appreciated. You can tell they enjoy what they do, and that alone gave the space some good energy. My boys really enjoyed the food and are already asking to come back, which says a lot. I'm planning to give Urban Plates one more try, and if the next experience reflects the service I expected and hoped for, I'll gladly update this review with more stars. Fingers crossed! read more

Been here many times but just getting around to reviewing because my experiences have been hit and miss! Generally, the grass fed steak plate is pretty good. Sometimes it can be a little tougher than other times. The last couple times I have gotten the chicken plate, the chicken has been dry. It's cage free chicken so I like that it's healthier. The sides- Always seem to get the Roasted Brussels sprouts Unfortunately they are not crispy tho, and usually quite soft. I like the flavor of them. The sesame broccoli was decent. Nothing that stands out. The side rustic bread always sucks and gets stale right before your eyes. The Turkey club sandwich was good, bread was nice and soft and turkey was fairly moist. The braised beef and mushroom soup was ehh.. the beef was a little tough and pretty dry. The chicken tortilla soup was really good tho. The best thing I tried for the first time today was the double cheeseburger and truffle fries! Got the burger lettuce-wrapped and they did a nice job doing it up neat and clean. The flavor of the burger was juicy and delicious. The truffle fries were crispy and flavorful and appeared to be double fried. Really good and worth the up charge. If you come here often enough, it's worth it to buy a plate pass for $5/mo! read more

Jay checked on us frequently, and I was able to say Hello to Alex whom I have met in the SD Mission Valley location. Urban Plates has been one of my very favorite places to eat since I discovered them in La Jolla across the high way from my church's Temple. Being super helpful and attentive To even offering extra bread for my tomato bisque soup which was so so fulfilling and flavorful, offered a free cooking. Greeted us with such warming smiles. I've been coming to this urban plates for years now, the menu has changed a little since they first opened here, but it's still really good! You order at the register now instead of the counter so the flow is a bit better than before. Jay helped our group this time and he was super friendly and attentive. Very pleased with my experience here from start to finish. Owen at the front was very welcoming, kind, and helped us out right away. It was our first time here so he patiently walked us through the menu as he took our order. He recommend we get the cantaloupe drink and mix it with the lemonade like a sort of Arnold Palmer and it was super refreshing! Menu prices are reasonable for the quality and portions. There was plenty of seating and the vibe inside was super chill. The food came out pretty soon after we sat down, probably ~10 minutes. We both ordered the chimichurri steak with potatoes, while I chose the corn on the cob and my friend got the Mac 'n cheese. The food was flavorful, well seasoned, and high quality. My only *slight* complaint is that the steak wasn't hot or even warm, not sure why, but still enjoyable. Cisco stopped by a few times to check up on us and struck up a nice conversation as he continually provided excellent service throughout our meal.
