I ordered my food through Uber Eats. I got the steak plate with mashed potatoes w/gravy and garlic parmesan mushrooms. The steak plate came with a rustic bread. The meal was about $20. The mashed potatoes with gravy cost $1 extra. The meal was good overall. The steak was tender and juicy, but only came with 4 pieces of meat. The bread wasn't toasted, misleading picture on the website. The mashed potatoes were okay, a little creamy but needed more flavor. The gravy was disgusting, watery and tasteless! I shouldn't have poured the gravy on the mashed potatoes, ruined the creamy taste. The mushrooms were good, a little too salty but worked well with the steak. I would try the restaurant in person, perhaps it would be better portioned and tasting. read more

Right off the bat, the customer service was outstanding, Adriana took our order and she was so helpful especially since it was my family's first time! My daughter requested this place for her birthday dinner, we picked it up to eat at home, her choice. Well the food, what was edible, tasted good but there was so much we couldn't eat, my chicken was extremely fatty, the Brussels sprouts were so hard, like barely cooked, and the mango tarts, well if you don't mind not eating any of the hard mango then it was good. I contacted the company right away but no response, that was on May 11th. I cancelled our plate pass and will not be returning to this restaurant again, it's too expensive to be this bad. read more

James and Francisco were both very kind, friendly and attentive, James make my initial ordering experience very pleasant. Francisco kept everything looking clean and ready for the next person. He made polite and brief conversation with some of the patrons. I was there for quite some time and he was very observant and attentive to everyone coming and going. Got their Wild Ahi Niçoise Salad which comes with organic artisan lettuce, tamari marinated and seared wild ahi tuna, green beans, organic egg, organic tomatoes, potatoes, capers, marinated olives, and my favorite is their light and tangy mustard-champagne vinaigrette which gives everything a touch of acid and compliments the ahi perfectly My husband enjoyed his salmon plate which came with two sides and he got the Roasted Brussels Sprouts which come in a light Balsamic Glaze and the Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes which come in garlic, basil, dill & chives which gives an otherwise starchy veg a nice fresh flavor. I also got their lemonade which was really refreshing although a little too sweet for my palate. Despite the proteins being made fresh to order, the wait was reasonable. It's a little loud inside, but they also have two outdoor seating areas, one in front of the restaurant and one out back. This Urban Plates location is huge! It's also clean and the staff are attentive. The food isn't the most flavorful, but I wouldn't say it's bland or anything, and I think the primary purpose when eating here is to be healthy. I get the kid's steak to be a little more easy on the wallet and the calories. The balsamic Brussels sprouts are very nice. Steak is a little tough. read more

I want to recognize a few outstanding employees at Urban Plates in Brea. I visit or order takeout at least 2-3 times a week because the food is always fresh, tasty, and healthy. I especially enjoy the weekly Chef's Plate specials. Whenever we visit, Francisco, Jay, and Rito are consistently friendly and welcoming. I was super excited to finally try Urban Plates after hearing so many great things. The food looked amazing, and the atmosphere seemed promising. However, my first impression fell short the moment I walked in. The cashier--Angie, I believe, with black frame glasses--greeted me with a completely blank face. No smile, no "hello," no warmth at all. It honestly felt a little off-putting. As someone who owns a business myself, I know how important that first point of contact is. A simple smile and warm welcome can completely set the tone and energy for the customer experience. That said, the rest of the staff was very friendly--chefs and servers alike seemed upbeat and positive, which I appreciated. You can tell they enjoy what they do, and that alone gave the space some good energy. My boys really enjoyed the food and are already asking to come back, which says a lot. I'm planning to give Urban Plates one more try, and if the next experience reflects the service I expected and hoped for, I'll gladly update this review with more stars. Fingers crossed! read more

I made it very clear that my veggie omelette should not be Brown (= overcooked) . The girl read Back our order and she wrote My request very clearly. What arrived at our table was quite a shock! My omelette was definitely Brown and my partner's omelette was dark Brown. My brown omelette had chicken (his order) and his omelette was actually my order and dark brown! I've never seen an omelette served that was that overcooked! How could they possibly ignore the instructions and mixed them up? Add to this that his toast was burnt. Really? You can't prepare Toast properly? When I brought it to their attention one of the girls she said I could see how you might think that as I showed her the burnt toast. She said we have already put everything away in the kitchen and so I don't know that we can do anything about it. We said it would be fine if it's an English muffin but, something that's not burnt. She disappeared into the kitchen for quite a while. Eventually when she resurfaced she brought the unevenly toasted bread, (But not burnt) and proceeded to tell us the following: " If you would get here earlier (We arrived 40 min before closing) we could serve you better" ( I later realized Those must be words from the owner). So if I arrive earlier my food wont be overcooked?Or if I arrive earlier they Have time to correct their mistakes? I knew the kitchen closes at 1:40. Waiting at the counter To ask about soup, I stood for 5 + minutes watching 5 employees move about. Finally I was able to ask and waited another minute or so while she went to go to the Back to ask. Now in line to order the man before me was trying to order (before 1:40) a vegan omelette. The girl said it was too late. He explained he had driven all the way from Riverside and it was still within the timeframe to order. She went back into the kitchen and a woman came out. (the owner? ) . The woman proceeded to chastise the young man for coming in late and trying to order a vegan omelette. She told him he'd done this before and he should get here earlier. He explained that he had not actually ordered but had tried. She said several times that she would make an exception this time but it can't happen again. And she continued to chastise him. Who treats their customers like this? .I literally watched the minutes tick by, wondering if I'd make it before the cutoff. More people entered. . Ah oh, do they know about the cutoff in 1 minute?? The girl behind the counter announced that no more orders would be taken after 1:45. Aw, they were being generous by allowing five more minutes to order. But there's no way these people could get their order in within the next five minutes. Will they say, too late, After they've been waiting in Line? Why not say instead, our kitchen is closing but we will be happy to take your orders. And why not hang a sign on the door that says the kitchen is closed at 1:40 But still accommodate diners's needs? The omelette tasted good but the experience was so negative, Such unkindness, Completely lacking in hospitality.

Rating: 2/5 I've always had good experiences at Urban Plates, which is why I recommended it to my family for a casual meal. Unfortunately, this visit was an absolute mess. First, the guy at the register had some odd tics and couldn't stop moving, which made me really uncomfortable. On top of that, he was so slow, mumbling the entire time, and it was nearly impossible to understand him. It didn't make sense to have him working the register alone, as it took forever for everyone to place their orders. I tried to add a side to my sandwich (which comes with chips), and the menu said it was $3 to add a side. The cashier told me it would be $4 to "upgrade" to a side. But I wasn't trying to upgrade -- just add a side. It didn't make sense to charge me extra for taking away my chips. When I asked another employee, she kept arguing that I was trying to upgrade, even after I explained it several times. Finally, we were able to clarify, but it was a frustrating process. To top it off, I ordered a chicken club, but they entered it as a turkey club. My mom also has a dairy allergy and asked for her sandwich with aioli on the side. When her food arrived, it had aioli spread all over, making it inedible for her. The guy who brought out the food also placed her plate on top of a barbecue sauce container, causing the sauce to spill all over the table. He didn't even notice until we pointed it out, even though the plate was literally toppled on the container. They took my mom's food back and brought another one out, but by the time she got her food, the rest of us were already finished. Their excuse was that her fish was well-done, which took longer, but it shouldn't take the entire meal to bring out her order. I feel embarrassed because I told my family this was a good spot, but this experience left me frustrated and disappointed. I expected better service, especially given my past experiences. read more

Urban Plates was a disappointing experience this time, and it didn't live up to what I expected. The chimichurri steak I ordered fell short. There was barely any chimichurri sauce, which left the steak tasting fairly plain, and the portion itself was smaller than anticipated. The meat was cooked okay, but without the accompanying flavors, it felt dry and underwhelming. Other items coming out of the kitchen looked more appealing, but my dish didn't hit the mark. Service was polite but felt rushed. The staff didn't check in much after taking the order, and when questions were asked, the answers were brief and lacked engagement. It wasn't rude, but it didn't feel particularly welcoming either. The ambience is clean and bright, but it comes across as very generic. The layout and decor don't add much character, and combined with the underwhelming food and service, it made the experience feel forgettable. I had came here before the lockdown happened and I did not like the service at all. The cooks were mean and just short with how they talked to me and my best friend (who SWEARS BY THIS PLACE). Fast forward to last night, completely different place and I am overjoyed with this new way of ordering. The cashiers were so nice and you can tell they were happy that were there. All three of the girls were super helpful in suggesting what drinks and desserts to get. I got the banana pie (BOMB) and lemonade (does not have that much sugar, perfect for me). My best friend SWEARS by the grilled steak salad, so we both had to get it. She loves the steak but LOVES the mild jalapeño-lime dressing that comes with the salad!! it definitely looked really good with the steak slices, pineapple mango salsa, jicama, mint, and coconut roasted cashews!! I personally loved the steak itself it was packed with flavor. I recently celebrated my 2-year anniversary with my girlfriend at Urban Plates in Brea, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We chose to sit outside in the beautifully decorated patio, which had cute succulents on every table and a nice rustic urban environment. It was the perfect setting for a special evening. I ordered the Surf and Turf plate with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes, paired with the tomato basil soup. Every bite was delicious and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend opted for the steak plate with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, and she loved every part of it. To top it off, I enjoyed a Mosaic IPA, which complemented the meal wonderfully. The highlight of our evening was the warm and friendly service. Fernando, one of the staff members, went above and beyond by bringing us some cookies and wishing us a happy anniversary. This location is a must if you're in the area. The vast selection of food is sure to present an option that will make your stomach start daydreaming. I got the double cheeseburger and sample the Ahi Tuna (thank you to my friend for sharing), and it was sincerely the best of each I've ever had. The burger was so fresh and literally dripping with flavor. The Ahi was seared to perfection (at least to my liking) and left me disappointed that I'll have to head home to make my own sub par tuna. Along with the stellar food the Staff elevated this experience to be one of the most memorable of my vacation. They were all so friendly and from what i could tell genuinely enjoyed their jobs and it translated to my party with ease. Francisco especially was a riot and gave my table quite a couple hearty chuckles. With a combo of amazing food and an even better staff Urban Plates will be the reason I'll be flying back to Cali from the Midwest. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Came to this restaurant for an outdoor dining experience during covid. We were ushered to the cashier where we could order which is different than ordering at the station that would get food from. I was debating between the ahi tuna and the chicken and the gal said the chicken was excellent so I went with that and broccolini and side salad. I asked about the dressing options and was told there was balsamic and opted for that. My receipt said lemon dressing. When my food came out, the guy said they didn't know which lemon dressing I wanted so they included both. Harmless mixup but I guess the cashier should know what they have, right? Anyway, I would gladly come back and try one of their other proteins. I think it is nice they offer a plant based protein option. The food came out quick and everything was perfectly hot as to not burn your mouth but to taste so much better when you actually eat it. One of their best employees Francisco was there once we were done to take our places and utensils as to free us from the task! Francisco made sure we were taken care of and only made this trip to urban plates an even better experience. I WILL be coming back again if not for the food for francisco! Tried Urban Plates for the first time in Brea. Excellent food and service from Erin that helped us with ordering to Cisco who cleared our plates when we were finished. We told Cisco it was our first time trying the food and he told us a little about the history of Urban Plates and its founder. We each had the chicken tenders, broccoli, and roasted marble potatoes. The tenders were prepared in a little different way, I'm sure to keep the calorie count low but they were delicious and probably the largest tenders I've ever had. I got the three tender plate but next time if I get tenders I'll get the two piece. Very generous portions and the price for the two meals was more than fair for the amount and quality of food. This spot is perfect if you want to meal prep especially during these times (COVID) and I am so glad. I take food home and I been coming here on Thursday's to work on my laptop and I can see how clean the staff is. I am here at least 4 hours and I constantly see the staff clean the tables. The girls in front are always so helpful offering me refills of my delicious green tea with mint and making sure my experience is good. They offer me the same excellent service each Thursday. I do recommend the steak salad and asking to get it cooked a little more since sometimes it's too bloody. Overall, the salad is amazing! I eat here everyday during the workweek, not joking. The food here is real food (though some offerings do contain seed oils like canola so be advised) like the steak and fish plates (also the soups are amazing, I dream of the tomato basil sometimes). However, I don't think I'd come as much as I did even with the food if it wasn't for the people here. Jay and Martin especially, the first time I came here Jay and I talked like we've known each other for years (and bonded over our love for Outkast and UGK). Urban Plates is the embodiment of farmed-fresh to the plate. In short, fresh. For lunch, I enjoyed - devoured - the Braised Beef & Mushrooms with my choice of a side of mashed potatoes. I LOVED the food and the steak was well cooked along with the mushrooms and the fries! The mushrooms were worth the +1$ as I don't even like mushrooms, and I scraped these off the plate! The steak was a nice Medium Rare along with the fries being crispy on the outside and nice and warm on the inside. Our dessert consisted of a sour yet sweet drink along with 2 cookies that are as big as my hand! The casual atmosphere and the friendly staff really made our meal! I've eaten at this restaurant many times and have been very pleased with the food and service. I like that the salads are fully customizable and there are a wide variety of sides for entrees. They even have good kids meal options, which is hard to find at restaurants (especially when you want healthy meals that kids will actually eat). Sometimes the lines can back up a bit if staffing isn't high enough to keep up with the crowd. I get the chicken sandwich which is also amazing! Customer service is great, everyone is smiling and super friendly. They keep it clean inside and outside on their patio.

The only thing that partially saved this meal was the remoulade sauce. - Blackened catfish: it was salty and garlicky - not blackened, no Cajun flavor at all. The vegetables and rice tasted like any other Asian restaurant's and nothing tasted fresh. I had a fish/rice/vegetable entree at a Vietnamese restaurant about a week ago. I felt like I was eating leftovers from that place instead! - The garlic cheese bread was soggy and salty. I read a review that it's Asian food disguised as Cajun - I agree!

I have been trying all the different sauces in various combinations, and it's neat that they have the calorie counts on their menu when ordering for ease. I think it'd be cool if they had bean salad options, and some other new seasonal stuff.
