The restaurant has a clean, modern coastal vibe that immediately puts you in the mood for seafood. It's casual enough to feel comfortable but polished enough that it still feels like a night out. The staff greeted me right away, and the energy in the room was upbeat without being overwhelming. It's the kind of place where you can settle in and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. What stood out most to me was how fresh and well-seasoned everything tasted. On The Hook leans into bold flavors, and it pays off. The seafood is cooked with care--tender, flavorful, and never overdone. The sauces and seasonings are clearly a point of pride here. They're rich, layered, and complement the seafood instead of overpowering it. Every bite felt intentional, like the kitchen really knows how to balance spice, acidity, and richness. The service was friendly and attentive throughout my visit. My server checked in at the right moments, offered helpful suggestions, and made sure everything came out hot and timely. It's the kind of service that makes you feel taken care of without hovering.

Always a great place for dinner! Customer service is stellar and the food as great! We had calamari for starters. I had the grilled plate with garlic butter shrimp and rice and vegetable medley. Beignets were the perfect dessert! A must order! And the bubbly bottle of soapy lemon water at the end of the meal is my favorite.

I recently went here for lunch and had an ok time enjoying my meal. We got oysters to start which was yummy and shucked well. Our server greeted us nicely, i think we came at a good time because once it started getting packed I could see the servers getting a overwhelmed. I got two fish tacos and 1 shrimp taco along with a Caesar salad. It was okay i do wish the tortilla didn't crumble after one bite. My boyfriend got a white fish plate. I do like that the environment has indoor and outdoor seating. Overall this was a decent place to go to. I would definitely come back to try their seafood boil.

First time trying the shrimp with king crab boil I thought it was good but pricey for just being average The service is super friendly The Cajun garlic butter mix was decent The shrimp was tender and tasted more fresh than the king crab I did see a nice happy hour menu so I will give it another try

Review 76/365 challenge After almost living in the neighboring city, Yorba Linda for 10 years. Finally got the chance to try On the Hook, to go order to dine @ home for Memorial Day Holiday 05.26.25 I've heard great reviews for This Louisiana style seafood boil from my close girlfriend. That it's their local place to get their Cajun style seafood fix. We ordered it and her husband picked it up for dinner. It was a great turn around time. Ordered almost everything there was on the menu. ~ Live Crawfish was fresh and pretty big size in end of May. ~ Shrimp was really plump and big. ~ mussels were yummy too ~ Raw oysters were clean and yummy tasting. Didn't have that sea salt water taste or slimy. It was fresh tasting and good. Their sauce is pretty good. It's not salty or overly garlicky. Loved the taste of it. I'll have to come here and dine here. Once i do, I'll update on the review for the service & ambience of the restaurant. Located in the same plaza as Walmart & Home Depot. Next to Super Juicy Dumpling.

If you're craving a messy, flavorful seafood boil night, On The Hook absolutely delivers. From the moment you walk up, the vibe already feels fun and casual. The nautical decor and the chalkboard "Please wait to be seated" sign set the tone for a laid-back seafood experience where you know things are about to get deliciously messy. We started with the Pastalya, which was rich, hearty, and packed with flavor -- a great warm-up before the main event. Then came the star of the night: a pound of snow crab legs served in their signature boil with corn on the cob, sausage links, and potatoes, plus a side of rice to soak up all that buttery Cajun sauce. Gloves on, crab crackers ready -- this is the kind of meal where you lean in, get your hands dirty, and enjoy every bite. The seasoning had just the right kick and the crab was sweet and tender. Cold Dos Equis beers kept things balanced while we cracked into the crab. To finish the night (or take home if you're already stuffed), don't skip the beignets. Warm, fluffy, and dusted in powdered sugar -- they're the perfect sweet ending to a savory seafood feast. Service here is always on point. We did wait a little that night, but honestly we expected it because we had been looking forward to coming here all day -- and once the food hit the table we were reminded exactly why it's worth it. The patio is especially beautiful at night with the lights and heaters going, and it really adds to the whole experience. The team here is also just a great group of people -- friendly, welcoming, and they make you feel taken care of every time. If you're in the Brea area and want a fun, flavorful seafood boil night, this place definitely hits the hook.

Came here on Monday, and there were plenty of seats. It's a nice-looking restaurant with what I'd say is pretty affordable food. I got a few items to share, and here are my thoughts: Jambalaya - I had this with brown rice, and it was pretty good. It's nothing out of the ordinary, but I did enjoy it overall. A bit spicy and flavorful. Loved the sausages. (4/5) Po' Boy with Fries & Coleslaw (Catfish) - I got this with catfish and really wished the fish piece was larger. The fish flavor overall was tasty though. The po' boy was more bready than anything else and not super flavorful since there wasn't much sauce. I loved the fries, they tasted like McDonald's fries, but better. (3.5/5) Beignets - Not my favorite, to be honest. Too much powdered sugar, and the dough was just alright. (3.5/5) Fried Bananas with Ice Cream - This is a winner! Crispy and sweet--hands down the best thing I had. I would totally recommend this. (5/5) Overall, I liked the vibes, and the server was really good. At the end of our meal, we were given this interesting glass that shot out bubbles for us to wash our hands. Solid food and vibes!

CROWNED BEST SEAFOOD BOIL! It's been awhile since I ate here and tonight's dinner impressed me and my hubs so much I had to come update my review! Food: 5/5 Oysters FRESH! Chicken wings FAT and JUICY! Clam Chowder HEARTY! Garlic Noodles (add veggies it's so yummy even my kids gobbled it up!) DELICIOUS! The shrimp and snow crab leg cooked PERFECTLY! The sauce is definitely better than BC too. Service: 5/5 my husband commented that everyone who worked here seemed to be happy. Kudos to the manager/owner for hiring great staff. Tristan was attentive and nice. Dessert: 5/5 Their Beignets are better than Disneyland and I might even say as good as New Orleans! Warm soft doughy inside and a crispy but non-oily exterior covered in heaps of powdered sugar yummm They have beers and cocktails. Super fun handwashing bubbles they give you at the end of your meal which my kids loved! Saturday 6pm there was zero wait. We will definitely come back when in the area. Thank you!

Loved my first time at On the hook! The food was delicious. The garlic butter and Cajun friends were the best. We also got the calamari, jambalaya, garlic noodles with shrimp, and fried chicken wings (Cajun). They all tasted great! Definitely would come again, especially for happy hour. I had Aidan as my server and he was awesome and had such good recommendations, he has great taste! Definitely made th experience here amazing! The inside is pretty standard it's very nice but nothing.

The reviews on this place were good so we decided to try it out. My husband will almost eat anything and he could not eat his meal. He ordered the jambalaya type dish and it was a bowl full of unflavored, al dente rice with a few pieces of shrimp and sausage on top. I ordered a pasta and it was ok, nothing I would go back for. I guess maybe the boils are what bring people back because the regular food was a no. The staff was nice but not attentive.

Great seafood boil place! Loved that the Cajun fries came out pipping hot. The shrimp was also wonderfully seasoned, and the service was fantastic! The only caveat is that the sausages on the menu mentioned 6 pieces but we received 5. Overall great place and would definitely return!

Visiting from out of town, but from the south and love good seafood we decided to give this establishment a try. Server greeted us immediately and we were immediately seated on a Sunday evening. There was music playing in the restaurant but not too loudly. The garlic noodles were delicious!! The fried and blackened catfish were just ok. While it wasn't the same flavors as back home we still enjoyed our dinner.

This is one of the more popular restaurants in Brea, and I'm so glad I could try it again recently. Shoutout, Alec, for being very attentive to our table and answering many of our questions. He made the experience way better. The first time I came here, I tried the AHU noodles, which were super strong and had too much flavor. I wouldn't recommend this noodle, but instead, get the classic garlic noodle. When I last visited, I got their fish and Chips, which were crispy and perfectly battered. The calamari was a no-go for us; the batter was falling off and very chewy, it may have been overcooked. We loved the strawberry lemonade; it had a sweet puree and fresh strawberries. Also, the beignets were the star of the show; they were fluffy and perfectly warm.

There was as of a few weeks ago!

Does the restaurant take reservations?

No it doesn't. It's a first come first served basis.

Do you have fresh crawfish?

Yes, We had fresh Oysters but everyone around us were eating fresh crab and crawfish.

Are the sauces gluten free?

Yes!

Can anyone tell me, how much is their crawfish for this year?

You should call them, they change their pricing daily or weekly.

Do you do $1 oysters?

Only for happy hour and that's monday-Thursday 430pm-close

What's that bubble in the bottle, cleaning hands thing?

It's like hand soap or sanitizer thing. I think they add liquid nitrogen or something. It's really nice.

Are wings available to purchase via takeout with the happy hour price or is happy hour still only dine-in?

Hi! Yes, we are doing happy hour all night Monday - Thursday and Friday 5pm -7pm.

Do they take reservations for large parties (10 people)?

Guinness isn't just another draft beer; it needs to settle, and it should be served in a proper tulip or Guinness glass to get that classic presentation. The fix is simple: slow the pour down and train the staff on the traditional method. The pub has the vibe. Now it just needs to respect the pint.
